Review Ibex Ethiopian Kitchen - Jacksonville

Friendly family run establishment. Nice vegetarian selection, home made honey wine and IMHO the best injera in town. Several spicy beef dishes will fill your senses with a warm glow

Having never had Ethiopian food, I wasn't sure what to expect. I was blown away by how flavorful the food was! If you want to get into your food (it's a "hands on" cuisine) and like food with a kick then this is the place for you! Heavy on the peppers & onion. I could drink the broth as a soup. Also, the manager (owner maybe) was the one who sat us and waited on us. He was super friendly and very timely. Fantastic!

Drive by this place all the time for work and decided to stop in today. Ordered a lamb dish for $16. Anyone who knows me, knows how I love and appreciate all foods. Normally, I would eat the food if displeased because I hate wasting money. Came home and found out that the lamb I ordered, was truly beef and I would have eaten it if the beef tasted ok. If I should ever taste poop, this is exactly how it would taste. Needless to say, I had no problem trashing that $16 food. It was pretty gross! Wish I could post a picture. Edit: I was able to post pics.. See below.

Came to Ibex for a fun dinner out and was impressed with the food and the service! Hostess went out of her way to find us some kolo... we enjoyed the vegetarian planners which had so much flavor and were quite filling! Everyone here was just all smiles :)

Oh my gosh was this good! We had the vegetarian platter for two and were in heaven. So many flavors, it was impossible to pick a favorite! Even when I was full I didn't want the flavors to stop. We're definitely coming back.

Wonderful Ethiopian home-cooking, mostly assorted vegetarian dishes served on whole wheat injera (sourdough-risen flatbread with a spongy texture). Also served are Ethiopian and other imported beers. Located in a strip-shopping center, Ibex appears to do numerous "to-go" dinner and fresh injera orders.

Really nice place to eat. Coffee demonstrations and a hookah bar (coming soon). I really enjoyed the meal and service.

Delicious, healthy, fresh. What a pleasant surprise. I had never had Ethiopian food and I'm so glad I tryed it. I had the Meat Combination Lunch: 2 meat dishes and 3 vegetables of my choice. Wonderful complex flavors. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

I have been a regular at Ibex for a few months now and I will keep going back indefinitely! The servers are very helpful and don't mind explaining the menu. Isaiah is the best! I have brought friends and they all love the place as well. Lunch time is much cheaper- I believe it's before 1pm- and it is definitely worth going earlier. Give their Ethiopian beer selection a shot. They are all very unique and delicious

Edit: Just after posting this I had my first negative experience at Ibex. If you come in for lunch and receive lunch menus but stay in the restaurant until after 3, they will charge you the dinner price. Even if you walked in the door at 2. It was a $10 difference on my bill, and she would not fix it. I will no longer be going back as often as I was before. But will still probably go on occasion because the food is very good.

I LOVE Ethopian food and have eaten it in many places. Very happy to see Ibex open in Jax. Clean, friendly staff etc.. Their enjera is a bit different than most places, it is hard to use it to eat with because it falls apart. Their flavors are good but it seems like they are trying too many veggies. (I've never had green beans or carrots offered.) It was obvious at the other ethopian restaurants that they simmered/marinated their meats and veggies. It taste like Ibex is merely seasoning their food as they go which doesn't give the true ethopian flavors time to soak in. I've had their beef and chicken which was VERY tough and chewy, again seems like a lack of slow cooking/simmering. I truly hope they can figure this out because they have a great opportunity in Jax. Maybe if they try Nile Ethopian on International Dr in Orlando they will get it before they lose the Jax foodies!

10/10 would recommend.. Husband and I went here for dinner and got the chef's platter for 2 (the non vegetarian one) and were hugely impressed. Waiter was really nice, explained the dishes to us and answered our questions. Not one thing on the plate (or sides) did I not enjoy. Seriously good, some spicy some not, but all delicious. Husband had to get up and wash his hands so he wasn't tempted to eat more! Haha. Don't let the plain outside appearance fool you, and go in! We also got the Hakim stout, an Ethiopian beer, and that was super tasty.

The food was delicious! I've been back several times already and can't wait to make this a regular destination. The people working there are unbelievably friendly and helpful and the atmosphere is casual and relaxing on top of the incredible food they serve. A friend and I split the Chef's Special Combination which was more than enough food for two people but it was a great way to try the variety of flavors and dishes available. I love that this restaurant is so close to where I live but I wish that more people would find and enjoy it!

This was my first time trying Ethiopian food. I did a lot of research and picked Ibex. This place is very cute, the staff is so friendly and helpful, and the chef is very accomplished and personal. It is a nice smaller size, very clean and gives the feeling of being at home but still maintains important classy touches throughout the restaurant. I was very impressed that the chef came to our table to make sure that we enjoyed our meal. That's the type of service that even most five star restaurants have forgotten in jacksonville. My boyfriend and I had the vegetarian platter for two, green beans, and tea. Everything was cooked perfect and presented with a more modern flair than a traditional Ethiopian restaurant. Dispute the upscale presentation, the price was shockingly cheap. They also have coffee ceremonies on Sunday which I am excited to go back and learn about.

Wonderful, flavorful addition to the Jacksonville community.. We just had an amazing lunch at Ibex Ethiopian Kitchen!!
Our family of 4 shared two large platters--- the IBEX Special and the Chef's Special Combination. Great variety, great flavor. Generous portions. The service was warm, friendly and prompt. We will be back for dinner and some Teje wine!
