Review Tony D's New York Pizza - Jacksonville

Richard Galliher
This was our first time here. We were seated in no time, and before you know it, they brought out some mouth-watering garlic knots on the house.. super delicious. NY special calzone is what I ordered and it was enough for 2 people. Sheeeesh. This thing was huge. And it had Ricotta cheese in it like a Calzone should have, right? I'm definitely going back here when I'm craving pizza 🍕 fo sho..

The Caesar salad was awesomely fresh and crunchy, the pizza was straight out of the oven and the cheese pull was amazing. Obviously using the good stuff. Prices are great. Highly recommend.

Food is delicious, we always receive our orders quickly and with a smile. The staff are super friendly and work as a team to make sure all customers are well taken care of. Maisy is awesome. We highly recommend this place. We love their garlic knots and chicken parm dinner, their pizza is great too.

I wanted to share my recent experience at Tony D, a family-owned restaurant I recently visited for lunch. Upon entering the establishment, I was immediately greeted by the warm and friendly owners who made me feel incredibly welcome. What truly impressed me was that the lady who served me not only provided excellent customer service but also addressed me by my name, which is a rarity in today's dining experiences. I decided to order a cheese pizza, and I must say that it exceeded my expectations. As I sat in the car, eagerly anticipating my first bite, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that it was, by far the most delicious slice of cheese pizza I have had in quite some time. The taste was exceptional, and it left me craving for more. In conclusion, I highly recommend visiting Tony D for a delightful dining experience. The combination of exceptional food, friendly staff, and warm atmosphere contribute to an overall wonderful experience. I am confident that you will leave with a similar impression and satisfaction.

This place was PACKED when I arrived with my family, no where to even stand. That is all I needed to know to stick around, we waited 45 minutes to dine in and the wait was worth it. The food was delicious and the staff was so friendly. Although they were super busy, all staff was very polite and mannered. Best Margherita pizza in Jacksonville, and the wings were amazing!

My favorite pizza place outside of New York. The food is amazing but the staff is even better. Super friendly no matter how busy they are. No fault of my own I dropped my pizza putting it into my car and went back in to order a new one and they wouldn’t let me pay for it. They could just as easily made me pay for a new one because it was 1000% my fault but the manger wouldn’t let me. Highly recommend for the food but know the service is worth the price of admission.

What a great experience. The employees welcomed us like we were an old friends stopping by to eat. They have a good beer selection. The pizza was delicious (meat lovers), and the Chicken Alfredo was fantastic. Highly recommend this place.

I have had a few bites of the Ziti and the wings (my wife's lunch), and that told me that we needed to visit this establishment. Now, the atmosphere and decor (obvious Yankees fans) are nothing special, but the place was clean! The tables were cleaned immediately, and the floor didn't have that slick film on it. Now the food and service were amazing! Our server was on point and made sure that our drinks were filled, the food was great, and our experience would bring us back. I had the NY Special Calzone, and it was a flavor party that I had never experienced or expected. The wings are the best and the stuffed mushrooms are a must try.

Would give more stars if I could. With half hour till close I called in an order and they said no problem. When I got there, found out they upgraded the order no charge. Food is fantastic. Buffalo sauce actually has some heat. Pizza crust is on point. First time ordering and can't wait till the next time. Would recommend to anyone

I have heard about Tony Ds for years on 1010XL radio station, but because I live at the beach I have never been until tonight. The service was great with multiple people checking on us, the salads were fantastic and the pizza is absolutely the best pizza my wife, son and I have ever had. We all agreed it was the best and we have had a lot of pizza. We had a meat lovers pizza and a small pizza with just sauce and bacon (no cheese) and they were both superior.

My husband and son tried this place for the first time. My husband googled them. We got there, and they were super busy. It took a while for us to be seated. Once we were seated, the staff was very friendly and informative. They were all young, high school, or college student that were professional. Each one we spoke with had good heads on their shoulders and a bright future. We were there past closing. I asked for some to go sauce. The kitchen closed, but the cook still made us some sauces to take. I recommend this place if you are looking for great food, service, and a very nice atmosphere and they do military discount.

I've eaten here 3 times in the past 2 weeks and have enjoyed it each time. It's probably the best pizza in town, in my opinion. I'll make the drive all the way across town just to eat here. Outstanding.

I'll give this a 7.7 out of 10. Compared to gabbys pizza, hillside queens The flavor is really good, the smell is great. However it is missing the essential qualities to be considered true New York pizza. The critiques: The crust should not get soggy and it should have a nice Krispy crunch with every bite. Additionally the crush should have its own unique flavor that compliments all ingredients on top of it. The cheese has to extend to exorbitant amounts like I'm a ninja turtle. The oils that come off the pizza should not be cloudy. That means there's water present that should be absorbed within the ingredients of the food. A perfect bake fuses the ingredients together and produces a divine golden oil. Overall, would recommend, great job at Tony D's

Real New York pizza, I’ve been coming here since I was a kid with my Nonno. My Nonno was Sicilian to the bone, we always used to order the “Sicilian” style pie margarita style with extra pepperoni. He sadly passed away from covid in the summer of 2021. My whole family was in town for his funeral and we ordered from here a lot that weekend. Tony himself commented after hearing the type of pie we got and said “that’s a real pie” we told him the news of my Nonno’s passing and he gave us the pie on the house, class act. Please give them your business you won’t regret it.

Great working staff, good pizza and they have Peroni!

Pizza tastes great (even cold)! Cashier was awesome. I got my pizza to go and they were ready in 15 minutes. Only thing I was bummed about was the pizza being a little floppy.

Honestly, I forgot Tony D's was there. Ordered 2 pizzas a couple weeks ago and they were delish. The woman at the front counter had amazing customer service. Went back last week and have to say was a little disappointed. Margherita pizza was really 'wet'. Too much sauce...? Will give it another try at some point.

I love this place!! Chicken wings are not fried but taste sooooooooo good!!!! Can’t find the same one in town! Pizza is good and calamari is good and service is awesome! The friendly server named Kennedy she is super sweet! Definitely will be back again and again! What a happy night!

Today was my second time going. First time we order ed slices and it was amazing as the white pizza is true NY Brooklyn white pizza, garlic butter with mozzarella then spots of ricotta. Today I drove 50 mins from the Georgia border to get a pie for my kids, ordered the 18inch white pizza for $22 and change. Got the pizza and the put ricotta all over the pizza under the mozzarella. I said this is not what I ordered, begrudgingly they said they would fix it and that is the way they do full pies even though the display pie and slices are different. Get the new, or what I thought was the new pizza. Looked right at a glance BUT get home....its the same pizza I didn't want with ricotta covering the pizza under the mozz BUT they added spots of ricotta on top. Gross....might as well eat a bowl of ricotta. PS. I lived in Bayridge Bklyn so I know NY pizza... Will never go back, $22 in the garbage.

This is my absolute favorite pizza and Italian food place that I’ve found in Jacksonville and the surrounding area. The food is always fresh and hot. The pizza has a thin, crunchy crust and the sauce to cheese ratio is perfect. I love this place and always bring family and friends here when they come to visit.

Just had the worse subs ever....meatball sub I ordered with no "extra sauce" so they gave me "no sauce at all" then they toasted the roll or should I say they burnt the roll....it was burnt....also ordered the steak sub and the steak was was over cooked and dried out that my husband couldn't even eat it...it went in the garbage...the cheese on both subs was hard and dry like it sat around for an hour after they made it....first and last time we order subs from this place....a big let down...we also ordered an italian sub for my sister and that looked pretty good but with tax, delivery charge and tip that was $31 wasted....such a shame! :-( :-( :-(

Great place to relax, eat and enjoy time with friends and family! Monday night pasta is hands down the best deal in town. Tuesday pizzas, highly recommend the buffalo chicken pie or white pie with spinach! I could go on and on! ďż˝

There margarita pizza and meat pizza is amazing. The Italian salad dressing is a little sour for my taste. Overall it is the best pizza joint in Jacksonville!!!

Seriously the best pizza in Jax. My little picky eaters ate ALL of it and my husband said it was the best calzone and lasagna that he's ever had. Best thing? They have a gluten free option for my boys which is hard to find and usually tastes like cardboard. BEST GF pizza we have EVER had. Their Tiramisu is amazing too and the staff is quick, friendly and the place is clean. Thanks Tony D's. We are now regulars. :)

Wow! I hate the cookie cutter food you get from chains, so upon discovering the gem, I could not believe it took me so long to find it. It is arguably the best pizza I've ever had. It's phenomenal! A plain ole chizza pizza alone is bomb!
Patches Stevens
I've only been here once and I'll definitely be returning. The staff is very friendly and hands down the best pizza I've ever had!!
Bradley Dean
I asked for an ordered of pizza for pick up at 9:20 pm. They closed at 10 pm and refused to take my order. I worked at restaurant where we never deny customer a meal order until it closes. I will never call or go to Tony D's again.
George Borcherding
Great place with great pizza and classic Italian food, even better staff.
Brandi Schmidt
Delicious pizza, amazing entrees, great prices and a cool staff and owner. Love Tony's!!
Kathy Knee
The best pizza ever. My kids and I love eating here! Made us feel like we were back home in NY. Closest thing to NY pizza we have found
Brian Foster
Great pizza, wonderful desserts, strong coffee. My family and I come here once a week and we have never had a bad meal.

Dropped in on Tony D’s Italian restaurant because they offer New York Style Pizza. I had the littles with me and pizza has a way of getting their attention. When we walked in the first thing I noticed was the smell. The smell of tomatoes and onion and garlic one gets in a NYC pizzeria. I must admit as a native New Yorker, I was transported back to my childhood when I would walk into the spot at the corner of 116thStreet and Lexington Avenue in Manhattan for that Saturday afternoon slice. To elicit such an olfactory response meant these guys were doing something extremely well.

I stopped in at 5:30 PM on Tuesday 7/16/19 I did not realize it until I went to this restaurants website the Owner was standing at the table right next to mine and I am sure he herd everything and did not intervene! WOW, We ordered a Large NY Style Pizza which by the way was $28.00 (Ouch) but not so bad because it was a 2 fer Tuesday got another pie for free all we had to do was pay the $2.50 per topping. So I ordered it with mushrooms only. When our pizza arrived at the table I noticed the crust was a little soggy but edible. Hungry and a rush to leave because I had a 2.5 hr ride home, by the time I got to the 2nd piece the pizza was so soggy I just could not eat it, so wet that it was mush, I called the waiter over, he apologized and asked if I would like to get another, I told him yes but lets get the meat lovers thinking that the veggies made it soggy. waited, and waited, and waited I went ahead and asked the waiter to pack it to go I paid the bill and waited some more. Finally at 7:00 PM! my Pizza was delivered to my table in a to go box, I opened the Pizza and Guess What! it was also soggy, when I pulled it up actually was a puddle of water???? I asked to speak with a manager the waiter came back ad looked at the pizza and apologized I requested a refund and we would just leave. The waiter comes back to my table and said I took the pizza off of your bill but had to charge you for the Mushrooms on your free Pizza? I said SIR the right thing to do is to do a full refund! he said are you taking that pizza home? I said no sir, that pizza is half cooked.... Literately one half of that pizza was cooked the other half soggy. don't forget the owner is standing at the next table the entire time. I would assume that maybe the ovens where not hot enough or only half the oven was working? He finally refunded my money and we left. Yes I left the waiter his tip. he was very nice just needs a little more training in the Customer Service Department but on the other hand if the owner was right there and he did nothing maybe the owner just does not care! Yes my husband ate a couple of the cooked mushroom side of the pizza while we waited. I work hard for my money and when I go to a restaurant to eat especially a $28.00 Pizza at least the owners of that establishment SHOULD make a $28.00 Pizza!

I tried this place twice because of all the reviews. I have no idea why it has a New York name nor good reviews. The pizza is no where close to NY pizza. The sauce tastes like ketchup and water. The crust is pretty good, but the sauce kills any pleasure in this pie. Forget decent service if only counter service also, but I will take this if the food is decent. It is not.

Wow! Tony D's is now my number one favorite pizza/Italian restaurant in Jacksonville. Up until a few weeks ago, I happily drove to St. Augustine for a good slice. No more!!! After seeing a photo of Park Pizza (Howard Beach, NY) with a person enjoying a slice, I clicked on the photo. The link took me to "similar places". I was luckily less than one mile from Tony D's. The first slice I had was so good that I burned the heck out of my top pallet-and didn't mind it at all. We've been back a bunch of times since and look forward to many many more visits. Playing NY geography with Tony was also great in that we were close neighbors growing up in Queens.

Best pizza in town. Family owned. Friendly people. Would recommend pick up over delivery, but will definitely be back. They have a full Italian dinner menu and I want to try it all.

Website says "Open until 10"... after spending 10 minutes putting together an order then setting up an account (because it doesn't give you an option not to), my order goes through fine (around 9:15). Then I get a call at 9:25 saying they can't deliver because it's "too late". More like too lazy. Last time I order from here. #byefelicia

Best pizza in Jacksonville by far. I am not a big fan of pizza sauce, yes I'm very picky! But I love, love Tony D's! My all time favorite is the Margharita pizza.....I could eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
KZ
The largest chicken I have seen was in the chicken parmesan meal. Very tasty, a lot of food for a great price! The service was the best I have had in a long time! Never a cup 1/2 empty, and always attentive !

Ok...... The house salad wasn't good at all. The fried ravioli was hard in the middle but the taste was good. My friends calzone was a little heavy on the ricotta but tasted fine. Service lacked a little.

We have eaten here many times and have enjoyed it. So , this rating is for a visit for last night (Saturday) only. We walked in and had one group waiting in front of us. Owner approached that group and sat them never even acknowledging us. He sat them and then went to the register to deal with a lady having trouble paying her bill. Then he walked to the back to deal with another situation. One server walked right by us and totally ignored us. We left and went elsewhere.
Here's the real issue: Saturday night, no host, two servers working entire dining room, and dirty empty tables not bussed. It appears labor cost is an issue so they cut staff so fine they can't even deal with people coming to eat with them. Cut labor to the bone and watch the sales disintegrate.
I truly like this place from the past. But, if you can't staff the biz, I'll go somewhere else.

Greasy gloopy pizza. The pizza was awful! It was super greasy, way too much cheese and I am sure they had about a half a pound of sugar in the dough. Far from fresh tasting to say the least. I asked for wings extra crispy and they came out barely cooked. I remember this place use to be a Brooklyn Pizza. We tried it shortly after it changed to Tony D's. It was nasty then and it's still nasty now.

All Around Good Experience. The pizza, the garlic knots and the eggplant parmigiana sub were really good. All of the portions were large and the food was hot and fresh. The staff was friendly and the atmosphere was relaxing.
Phantomdiner71
Great Pizza. Sometimes you just gotta have real New York style pizza made by people who know how to make pizza. Forget the chain places where they're assembly lined with frozen dough and who-knows-what-is-in-the-toppings. This place knows how to do it right. Go on Tuesdays; they have 2 for 1 specials. Good prices.

Awesome pizza
Tom
The chicken parm we ordered was horrible. The chicken was hard, greasy, and rubbery. The breading fell right off the bottom. Also, the calzone was so greasy. This was our first time trying this restaurant. We will try their pizza b/c of the good reviews, but that's all we will order from here.
NYC Nana
AWESOME!. My kids saw an ad for this place when they were here visiting and being from NYC I had to try it. You will NOT be disappointed! It is REALLY NY pizza! Service was great and the prices were reasonable.
Don't wait to try Tony D's!
Karen
Great pizza! Great service! Jason must have written the book on customer service!!! Will return next time we are in town!
Kel32258
Best Pizza in Jax!. This is without a doubt the best pizza in Jacksonville! It's true NY style pizza, with fairly thin crust. The key to good pizza is the sauce and Tony D's hits the nail on the head with a sauce that's not too sweet and not too salty.
The Real McCoy
Try the Grandma's Pie. I had never heard of this but it's awesome! Basically thick crust, like Sicilian pizza. No kidding...we ordered the same pizza 3 times in one week (and now my pants are too tight but whatev). We order and pick up so can't comment on delivery.
Jimmy Denfield
Awesome buffalo wings. TRUMPS BROADWAY wings!!!!
Kaylee
Great restaurant. You have to wait a little bit for the pizza to come out but it is well worth the wait. While your waiting order the bruschetta... Amazing! The staff is friendly too and the place really clean.
Jamais
The delivery system for this restaurant is completely unacceptable. Ordered at 7:30 and by 8:30 still no pizza. Called the restaurant and was told its on the way. 9:00 came and still no pizza. Called the restaurant again and said they weren't sure what happened since the driver left 30 minutes ago. Was called back an told the driver got lost and wasn't sure how to get back. When I said this wasn't acceptable was told sometimes online ordering for delivery can sometimes take 2 hrs! Not pleased at all with this.

Good Pizza. I ordered a XL pepperoni pizza today and was pleasantly surprised when I got home. It was actually XL and it was really good. I am from NY and this is as good as you are going to get not actually being in NY.

I love Tony D's! Clean environment, nice atmosphere, friendly staff and great food. Can't beat thier $8.99 pasta special on Monday's. Great pizza too.
