Review Picasso's - Jacksonville

Sarah Miller
Always a great experience at Picasso’s! The food is amazing and the service is always excellent. The pasta and pizza are solid choices but we also like to try the specials from time to time. The risotto bites are our favorite appetizer and the pan roasted chicken is my favorite entree. Save room for the butter cake! Noi is amazing and always remembers our drink order when we come in. She stops to say hello even if she isn’t our server. Wish it was closer but may be a good thing because we’d eat way too much if it was!

What a wonderful find! I had heard about Picasso's from a friend who recommended it. I must say I truly enjoyed it. Wonderful food, friendly staff and price was not bad for what you get. Highly recommend this place.

I was so excited to find a restaurant inspired by my home town St Louis !! My wife ordered the fish which was a very generous portion and came with mashed potatoes and squash. We started with the St Louis Mayfair salad which was absolutely delicious and on the mark. I ordered the STL style butcher meat pizza. I have to say, the pizza was very good and probably the best I’ve had in Jacksonvile. My only critique is the “st louis style”.. I was expecting a thinner crust, provel cheese, and a little more sauce as a St. Louis style. I love the menu, the affordability of the food, and the atmosphere. I hope they expand soon so folks don’t have to wait outside in the heat to enjoy your great restaurant !!! Kudos !!

Everything was delicious. I kove the fresh homemade noodles! Clean and friendly staff. The kids meals were an excellent price and portion!

Visited again.. their traditional pizza was awesome! The Greek salad is so tasty! As well as the gluten free pizza is so good.. nice and crispy! Which is unusual in gluten free crusts!! So good!! .I tried their gluten-free pizza for the first time. It was very delicious!! I would not have known it was a gluten free crust. It was thin and crispy. And of course the toppings were wonderful. Picasso's always has good food that you can count on.

Their website describes, "Food is Art." This restaurant is well described. It's the only St. Louis style pizza that I've found that is actually accurate to real specifications in terms of ingredients and preparation. Being here is also an experience, perhaps it's the vision or dimension of the art and where this vision has led into simply awesome pizza. I really enjoyed the staff. Most helpful and similar to the colors on the canvas think they too have vision of quality. And Picasso's is truly a work of art in itself.

Thus far, the best pizza "I" have eaten in the Jacksonville Area. The service and food were great. It's a small place. For lunch, I noticed most people do takeout. If you gonna dine-in, get there when they open. For dinner, expect to wait.

The best pizza in Jacksonville is here! They have a great menu besides their pizza but I’ve never been able to NOT order their Margherita pizza. The service is always great as well. I love consistency!

From the moment we sat down the whole experience was great, great service, great food, pricing was reasonable. We had the fried ravioli, and cheese bread for appetizers. I ordered the rock shrimp risotto with flounder, and husband ordered the lasagna. My risotto was a little crunchy, but our server (she was very attentive and knowledgeable! Receipt said her name was Kam) corrected it, even after I said it was ok. We also ordered a meatball pizza to take home. Will definitely be making this our go-to Italian place!

This joint was recommended to us. We came here for lunch. We got the mozzarella sticks, gumbo, and 2 slice with drink lunch special. Food was fresh and hot! Lunch is counter service but dinner is full services. We recommend giving it a try.

Best pizza in town! Everything from this place is pretty good, great staff, this place never fails.fried Mac and cheese, deep fried raviolis, sandwiches, you should try them all.
Steve Morgan
Great food here! We had some great apps and entries for dinner and some of the best meatballs and Sy Louis Pizza as well as a great Stromboli. Only complaint I had was they didn’t want to seat us until exactly at 4:30 when they opened which to me makes no sense to me.

Been dining here for over five years. I haven’t found a food item I didn’t like yet! Amazing across the board as far as the menu goes. Service can be questionable at times. We recently had a poor experience with a rude young lady at lunch, but the servers are usually awesome. Always packed, so make a reservation for dinner if you can (24 hr advanced notice required). Lunch is packed too! Great sandwiches, salads, entrees, and apps.

This was our 2nd time coming to Picasso's and we are in love with it. We got the Lasagna, house salad, Italian stew pot and garlic bread twists. All absolutely delicious! The bread twists are addicting, they are so good! The only slight negative is that there is always a line to get in. But that's what happens when you have good food!

I can’t believe it’s taken me so long to visit - what a gem in Mandarin. The pizza is amazing and I’ve been impressed overall with the quality of food! The chicken parmesan was *chefs kiss*

Interesting restaurant well hidden in a strip mall off San Jose across the street from Target and Publix. First Bill did a Google check and saw an outstanding Pastrami Sandwich on the site and was sold, he loves Pastrami. Arrived at the place with our party of 4 and sat ourselves. Menus were available but no table ordering service... strange. Went up to the counter and placed our orders. Bill got chicken parmesan very good 5 ⭐. Also ordered fries... very large order but covered in paprika or some reddish spice... not to our liking so 3 ⭐. I ordered 12" sausage and mushroom pizza OUTSTANDING so 5 ⭐ along with a Ceasers Salad very good 5 ⭐. Other guests ordered slices and salad's both very good 5 ⭐. Food was delivered quickly and hot so that's good ,5 ⭐. We needed table utensils... had to get them ourselves with the same with condiments like Grated Cheese, Oregano and Red pepper flakes so 3 ⭐. Now remember that Pastrami Sandwich? They no longer have it, boy was Bill disappointed 😞 0 ⭐. With these few little issues corrected this could easily be a 5 ⭐ eatery and will give it another chance soon.

We had a party of 6 and had to wait an hour for a table on a busy Thursday night. We counted dozens of customers picking up order after order. All the food smelled delicious as it passed by. A smaller place with that many customers is usually a good sign. And IT WAS. Our food was delicious, fresh, and portioned large enough to fill the hungriest of people. My soda never got past half drank before a waitress would snatch it up to top it off. The prices were surprisingly less than what I would expect from a place that makes their food from scratch. My only complaint is that we live in Maine and probably will never get another chance to enjoy this amazing establishment. If you are reading the comments to see if this place is worth it... IT IS!!!

I heard great things about this place and then I walked in the door after weeks of not eating out and the first thing I see is some guy behind the line prepping chicken with his bare hands and no mask!!! And I looked around even further and not one person behind that line was wearing gloves or masks the only ones were the waitresses and the cashier at the front... when I saw the man put his bare hands in the chicken that’s when I left & I wanted to throw up.

Picasso’s!!!! We are ONE week out of phase 1 quarantine!!!!

You folks are responsible for the publics well-being When they are being served in your establishment and the least you can do is make your staff protect them selves By wearing gloves and masks when they prepare our food!! 😷😷😷😷😷😒😒😒

shame on Picassos it’s just gross and irresponsible!!!

Service and atmosphere were great. Originally came to try pasta, but the aroma of pizza quickly changed our minds. We had two appetizers: the toasted ravioli and the lobster fritters. The toasted ravioli was delicious, but the consistency of the meat may be offsetting to some. The lobster fritters were terrible. They were mostly bread and hardly any lobster. Also very salty. Not worth it. We split the medium pizza. We got it Mediterranean style with shrimp, roasted red pepper, mushroom, and basil. It was one of the best pizzas we've ever had. I can't speak for the whole menu, but the pizza alone is worth the trip.

This place is great all around . Friendly service great food and a casual atmosphere . A must try if you haven't yet . Something for everyone here ! 😀
Lisa MACK
Simply amazing food, it's a must try and you'll be addicted. Make sure you checkout the daily special board. Friendly staff and comfortable atmosphere, however a bit noisy at the dinner rush.

Was told a 20 minute wait but was ready in ten. The waiter was very timely with drinks and appetizer . Unfortunately they were out of the house red wine at 7pm and could only upsell us to a much higher price wine. They were out of Philadelphia cheese steak which is what we came for. We asked for spaghetti with meat sauce and were informed that is not possible at this Italian restaurant. Settled for spaghetti with meat balls. Was then informed would be up-charged $2 per meatball and up-charged for cheese on said meatballs. Super slow and unfriendly service will never return. In a side note the appetizers did come fairly quickly and were very good.
Jason Bloom
I have been several times and it is always a winner. Service is a little slow but the food is well worth the wait. I am eager to try the Ramen, but my standard fav is the gumbo. Made with an authentic dark roux, as this is a flavor profile that cannot be imitated meatballs are great as well.

Tried the Ramen - expected more broth but it was amazing!

We waited over an hour and never received our food. When we said we wanted to pay for our appetizer and leave no one appoligized or asked what the problem was. We did have the lobster fritter appetizer. It was very good, but we waited 20 minutes for it. Our waitress seemed very confused and new. The manager never bothered to ask what the issue was. Very poor service. I can accept that kitchens get behind but someone should have at least aknowledged the issue. Obviously we won't be going back.

Hidden gem in Mandarin. Menu options for all tastes from southern to Italian. Great place to meet the girls for dinner over a glass of wine or bring the family.
Jim
Really like the place, ordered 3 pies at the restaurant and waited 22 minutes which was very good considering they were packed and we walked up to order. Although we didn't order any of the sautéed dishes, the smells of garlic and watching the chefs were doing it right. The pizzas were very good but a little shy on sauce. We had a meat lovers, a pepperoni and cheese and the Da Brooklyn. All good, my only complaint would be the Da Brooklyn. My expectation would have been for full slices of sausage rather than chopped bits, the same for peppers and onions. They make a good pie and the effort certainly is there. Considering we live off 210, I would rather travel there then eat at anything Italian over here. Try it, it's good.....

Nice little rustic restaurant located in mandarin. Very polite people. Just a tad bit pricy but for the atmosphere and the good food it's worth it. Come early because it gets packed really quick. Especially at lunch time.
Lylironyx
We arrived 30 minutes before the restaurant opened. Slowly the people began to arrive. Before we knew it there were several families waiting. Very promising.

We were not disappointed. The atmosphere is very unique. The restaurant pays homage to the artist. No one waits on you - grab the menu, order, and pay up front. We were a little slow in figuring it out.

I got the cheesy shrimp grits. Different take on the southern dish, but still very delish! Even my husband who hates shrimp and grits was impressed.

Definitely coming back! I'm going to try the ramen bowl. Heard great things from others, but they only serve it during dinner.

Great food. Polite waitstaff. Quick Service. Clean facilities. Great hole in the wall kind of place. Family friendly. High back booths so my LO won't bother the neighbors.

We've eaten here a number of times over the past year and every meal was excellent. Great customer service, fresh ingredients, and modern menu with a classic twist. Bread knots are out of this world. When we host out of town guests they always ask for an evening at Picasso's.
Wendy
Back again and loved it again. Their St Louis style pizza is actually better than any St. Louis style pizza is St Louis! And try the toasted ravioli...it won't disappoint! I love this place.

Never Less Than Great. Wonderful service, great food - just a great place to eat.

Great pizza. I live in Illinois, But every time I visit family in Jacksonville, we have to have a picasso's pizza. GREAT PIZZA!!!

Great evening!. We had a group of 13 & used the small room area for our Christmas get together. After reading other reviews, I was a bit leery, but was wonderfully surprised to have excellent service from our servers, Kim & Christina. Everyone seemed to have a different dish which ranged from sandwiches to pasta entrees & commented how good each was. I had the calzone so I can personally say it was yummy! The side salad was huge & could have been a meal all by itself. One of our group received her meal late as it was missed in the preparation but it was quickly remedied. We arrived around 6:00 on a Monday night & by the time we left around 8:00, the place was packed. Overall, it was a great experience & will likely come again.

Best Italian Food in Jacksonville!. If you love Italian food you will LOVE Picasso's! The owner growing up in the St.L, brings the Best Italian food found on The Hill and Chicago to the south! Absolutely amazing. Definately try "Da" Salad, St. Louis Toasted Rav's, Meatball sandwich is a must! Biggest cups in the country for your drinks! You will not be disappointed! I will have to retrain myself from eating here daily.

Horrible customer service. Wow. This place could not care less about their customers. We arrived when they opened, were rudely told to sit down and were kept waiting. My 11 month old was sleeping in her car seat and not one server offered us a highchair. The food may be good, but the service leaves a bad taste in our mouths. I see by other reviews that I am not alone in that mindset. Do they think they are the only restaurant that serves pizza? Give me a break.
Hmm
Please fire some waitresses.. On our initial visit it was our first visit, NO ONE came to sit us down , I think it's okay because it was our first visit but when we decided to sit ourselves Again NO ONE Came to see how we were doing, I could see the cashier notice us but not do anything about it.. Wow. So I came up to her an asked her what to do???? And she said to grab a menu and come back up there to order so we did. The pizza NYC Manhattan style was delicious but a little greasy. The calzone was amazing, but I had to get my own drinks and utensils which the waiter told me to go do. This was lunch time. Well other than that I was happy with everything so I came back a week later for dinner. We watched as the guy at the door said the tables would be ready in a few minutes to a family of 6 and then left to just talk to the waitresses and the people left two empty tables and NO ONE cleaned them they just stood there looking uncomfortable and eventually left and then the guy chased them down while they drove away saying "sorry you couldn't wait 5 mins"!! Really!?? How rude. This is poor customer service. Food is good but some people need some restaurant skills.

Wonderful!. My husband and I live in the area and come here a lot - we even get take out pizza occasionally! Yes, it is small and you will have to wait, but it's worth it. If you go on the weekend try to go early. My two favorite things about Picasso's - they offer a thin and crispy gluten free pizza crust (it's not on the menu but just ask) and you can bring your own wine and pay a $5 cork fee. The kitchen sink pizza and spinach salad are two of my favorite things! The cobb salad and no bean chili are delicious too. Hope you enjoy it!

Best pizza in town. Local owned. great pizza.
awesome menu.
a must try

The Chef is an artist that takes pride in putting out great food!. A friend and I went to Picasso's for dinner around 6pm last night and had a great time! This place is small so you need to either get there early or be ready for a little wait(no reservations). I will tell you that this food is definitely worth the wait and the price. We got the Eggplant Chips, Ramen Noodle Bowl with Pork Belly and the Gourmet Pizza with Pancetta bacon, caramelized onions, brie cheese, truffle oil. All of the items we ordered were absolutely incredible, they used great product and everything was seasoned to perfection! Our server was very gracious and let us try a couple of wines to see what we liked since they are written on a board on the wall. Overall the experience for us was absolutely fantastic. I will be back again and bring others to join because this place is a find in Jacksonville :)

This was stop #1 on this summer's Food Adventure. Picasso's was a marvelous find in our neighborhood. The waitstaff is friendly our server was attentive and helpful, this was a good start. FOOD WAS AMAZING from beginning to end. We had fried mac & cheese appetizer and then did a build your own St Louis style pizza. WOW this pizza was something to go back for a try 100 different ways. If you have never had St. Louis style pizza and you enjoy both red and white sauce pizzas this is a a combo of both for the lack of a term to describe the amazing sauce. The tangy, cheesy, good gooey sauce with your favorite toppings makes Picasso's one to return to on a Food Adventure.

LOVED IT! This little place is a hidden gem! Went there based on the awesome reviews both here and on Yelp. The St Louis style pizza was delicious! You can tell this place keeps the locals coming back for more. The manager (owner?) seemed familiar with many of the patrons. Many stopped to chat making the atmosphere even warmer & inviting. If I lived in Jax I'd go back - for sure!

Great Food!. This is a hidden gem in Mandarin! Fresh ingredients and a great menu combine to create a one of a kind in JAX restaurant.

Great food an an excellent server make this a newly discovered favorite for us. Really impressed!

Good Pizza. We were told about this place from a co-worker of my husband. Thank you thank you thank you. Pizza is awesome!
Brian And Erin Kellogg
Good pizza!. The pizza is great and there are many specialty pies to select from. Each comes with very generous portions of topping and the 18" can easily feed a family of 4. We did have one issue with the service being very slow but the owner was apologetic and comped us some desserts which was very nice. I would eat there again.
Carson Howell
Quite simply: it's the best Italian spot in Jax.
Meagan Wolson
I love the pizza at this place, but I decided to branch out and try the ramen bowl. The waitress described it as sweet and salty because of the miso and hoisin, but all I could tast was salt. The sweet chili glazed salmon that was on top was delicious, though... So just stay away from the ramen.
Yummy Mommy
About once a month, my husband & I splurge on pizza at the BEST pizza joint in JAX, Picasso's! Make sure you make a reservation the day before you go to ensure a table & no wait! This whole in the wall is always extremely busy & well worth the wait! We are always greeted by our favorite waiter, Donald. He knows the menu like the back of his hand & by far exceeds excellent customer service! My husband always gets the kitchen sink pizza & eats over half a large pie by himself & I always get the blanco combination or eggplant parm pizza. You must start off with the "da house" salad, it's delish & a great start to your experience here. Then you must end your meal with the orange crunch cake. It's delicious & tastes like a creamcicle with bits of crunch running through every bite! If you are looking for a great family night out, Picasso's is your place!!

Always super. Always..........

Great food, poor service. Food is very good but staff can use some training. Ordered salad and pasta dish. Pasta came out first and manager not happy we told them to take pasta back until after the salads were served.

We got pizza to go over the weekend,it was fabulous .Going there tomorrow night for our son's 20th birthday dinner can't wait

Excellent service. Good food. Want to go back for dinner! Only there for lunch. Service was quick.

Will not Go Back. We have been looking forward to trying this place for a while now. So last night and it was getting late, my wife called to be sure we could get seated at around 8:30 we were told it would be no problem. When we got there 10 minutes later we were met at the door by a rude brunette who promptly told us we could not be served that they were shutting down. There were several people still at tables and I guess open till 9 just means if we want to...whatever! look forward to not ever trying this place now, Plenty of other places to go. You know business is good when you chase people away at the front door.
Salim Muslimani
Absolutely love this place! We usually get pizza here and you can never go wrong with the pizza. Food is always fresh and hot out of the oven. The service is amazing as well. If you go, ask for Donald. He is one of the best waiters ever. I consider myself very picky when it comes to restaurants and this place hits the nail on the head. We started with a fried Mac and cheese app which was so good. It was perfectly prepared Mac and cheese fried to perfection. It came placed on top of the rue cheese sauce it was mixed with which me and my wife were fighting over. We got a large broccoli and chicken pizza and it came out piping hot. It was a hit. Huge portions for a very reasonable price. We have never had a bad meal here. Trust me, the owners know food. Get a little extra marinara to dip your crust in, it's a good way to finish each slice!
Denise
Rude waitress w/attitude. Very over priced, meals do not even come with salad or bread. Gumbo just ok, have had a lot better. Waitress rude. Salads very over priced for small salad with hardly any lettuce.
Kiley R
Love, love, love!. We're from Missouri so we love that they have St. Louis style pizza and toasted ravioli, but everything on this menu is so good. We've tried pizzas, pastas and sandwiches that were all great. Splurge and try the fried mac and cheese appetizer - to die for.

No call. Having just moved from St. Louis we were excited to find Picasso's and had eaten here several times and enjoyed it. That is until we had out of town guests, made a reservation and showed up to a sign on the door stating they were closed for "technical issues". Received no phone call to let us know they were closed and when contacted the restaurant they stated they call all reservations but conveniently had our phone number wrong by one number. Very disappointed in how Picasso's handled the situation and won't count on them again when making reservations.
Victoria Britt
Their food is very tasteful! I always try to get something different whenever I go, and I never get disappointed! Their pizza is, hands down, the best though!

Service leaves something to be desired. We saw rave reviews for this restauarant and actually decided to go get drinks and appetizers elsewhere and then go to Picasso's for the main course. First off, the location is tiny- which I am fine with, but they have tables right into the area where people wait. It was Friday night- so it was a given they would be busy. We were offered the table in right next to the hostess stand and due to our hunger level, we glady accepted. Later this would cause an issue. We ordered and everything sounded amazing- and the descriptions were very telling. I got the steak, which was on special and my husband got a specialty pizza. Both were delicious and the portions were large- however, we waited quite a while and I think most things would have been delicious. In all seriousness though- the food was good, but the wait was long. The real issue came when more people came into the restaurant and a couple that had been waiting was ignored and a group of four was immediately seated. When the couple asked why, the hostess flippantly said it was because the table was for 4 people and they would have to wait for a smaller table- here is the thing...there aren't smaller tables really! The hostess was extremely rude, misrepresented the restaurant, and continuously left the stand to refill her drink and talk to the other staff. Just the offensiveness of this individual and her disregard for hostess protocol will prevent us from going back.

Overrated!. Very overpriced! Food looks elegant but doesn't taste the same! I paid $18.25 for the Pan Roasted Chicken, which is is one chicken quarter and a small portion of squash. My friend who paid $13 for Fettuccine Alfredo added chicken and got the same one as me for only $4 more! The only flavor of the dried out chicken came from the giant glob of cheese slopped on top masking the blandness of the chicken. Also the place is crowded and understaffed so service was very slow and the restaurant was very hot and uncomfortable loud. I hate The Olive Garden, but would rather go there than this place again! DISAPPOINTMENT!!!
SnK Food Snobs
Strictly a pizza review. The NYC pie was ok. Good choice of toppings and decent crust. The St. Louis pie had great crust but they use a mix of mozzarella, provolone, and Swiss. Which when cooked together tastes like American cheese. Too soupy and creamy. My advice, ask for he St. Louis crust with regular sauce and toppings.
Southside Girl
Food was great - attitude not so much. We've eaten here a dozen times - great salads, pizza, shrimp and grits, specials. It's quaint and and yummy.
But yesterday the attitude of the lady who answered the phone and took my order was rude. Plain rude.
No desire to help with getting tables together for our table of 9. (I had 4 small children with me and she watched on as I struggled to pull tables and chairs to make it work. NO helpfulness when I called ahead--her comment " If you get here and there are tables then you can sit down". Really? Thanks.
The food is great. It's a shame they have such a party pooper at the helm of customer service.

Try it!!!! So good. All four people in our party were blown away by the food. I got the Red Baron sandwich, a unique open faced sandwich with pastrami, pickled red cabbage, and curry sauce. Amazing taste and really nice presentation. I had the sandwich, an excellent cup of tomato soup, and my husband had a generously portioned salad for $23! It was nice to be pleasantly surprised by a check for once. The atmosphere was nice and service was friendly. We will most definitely back.

A Nice Change. We decided to eat dinner at Picasso's on Friday night and were pleasantly surprised to find there was no waiting. The eggplant chips were very good. They were big round slices of eggplant that was battered, fried and topped with parmesan cheese. A delicious marinara sauce accompanied the slices. My hubby had the Kentucky Hot Brown and thought it was very good. The sandwich, which was covered in cheese sauce, was baked in a dish and had plenty of fillings like turkey and bacon. I had the turkey with brie club sandwich and it was delicious. The cranberry relish gave it a nice zing and the sandwich was filled to capacity. We decided to indulge in dessert which proved to be the low point of the meal. We had initially ordered the lemon tart (an item listed in the menu) only to be told they didn't make any today. We had such high expectations after the delicious appetizer and entrees and the milk chocolate bread pudding really let us down. It was like french toast, but soggy, with a runny chocolate sauce that reminded us of melted chocolate ice cream. Overall the visit was very good and we plan on returning to try some other menu items (sans dessert).

Wow. Shrimp & Grits was outstanding on Friday night! First time I've ever had that dish anywhere. I could order that every time I eat at Picasso's. The staff is very attentive (Natasha) and helpful with choosing wine by the glass. I loved the New Age wine that my server recommended for me. My daughter was very happy with her cheeseburger and fries.

This is my third time so I guess I'm a regular customer now. Go and enjoy the quality ingredients, relaxed atmosphere and attentive service. Chef Chris Evans you really know what you are doing!
Katie
Pork belly ramen noodle?. The food is excellent! had the pork belly ramen noodle dish the last time i was there and it was killer! the manager Brian, is awesome!!! service is good and the atmosphere is cool. Keylime bread pudding, the best i've ever had. You will wait for a table since the resturant is not very large, but it is well worth the wait. Check it out!
The Captain
Absolutely unbelievable food! It's no wonder this place was packed on a random Thursday night. I went with the waiter's recommendation of the pork belly ramen, and could not have been prepared for the awesomeness I was served. It wasn't your college ramen, it wasn't pho, it wasn't even the new-fangled ramen you had at some hipster-infested noodle shop in San Francisco. This was a perfectly prepared slab of pork belly laid across evidently house-made slightly al dente ramen noodles, in a piping hot pool of a dark and savory broth, accompanied by a halved hard-boiled egg and some red cabbage. Out of this world. Jax foodies, go eat here now.

Excellent food, great people. I grew up in PA and always thought there was no way to improve upon a Philly Cheese Steak and then I had one at Picasso's. They have THE BEST cheese steaks I have EVER had. All their food is excellent and the people are great, extremely friendly. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone that loves good food.
David Dishaw
Fabulous meal. My wife and I enjoyed it and can't wait to come back and try the pizza. Chicken Parm for her and a ramen bowl with Korean pork for me. The breadsticks melted in your mouth. A tough place to find but we'll worth it once you do
Foodie
New menu! I now have new favorites for lunch! I love the BLT with the secret jam. A very creative take on a classic sandwich. The tomato soup with a cheesy crouton is simply delicious! And the chicken wings make me wish it was football season now! Nice job!

This is not what comes to mind for "NY Style Pizza". NY Style Pizza is a thin, crusty pizza with with a tasty, almost tangy sauce.

Picasso's serves the usual Jacksonville pizza: thick, bready, and flavorless.
The Fat Kid
Maybe I'm Spoiled.....But. Now I like waiters and waitresses and I like to order anything on a menu. I really don't like hearing things like "Here's your menu now go sit and come up here an order" or "You can't have that now, that's for dinner" Menu's don't cost that much do they? Oh yea we don't get your drink or silverware either it's over there. Now for the food I ordered the fettucini with roasted garlic sauce and a side of roasted cauliflower. When my lunch arrived it did look pretty with crossed garlic breadsticks on it. Then later came out my roasted /charred cauliflower. So the pasta dish was bland like maybe tomato sauce out of a can. I thought this place was much better then this after reading all the great reviews and the menu on Urbanspoon. Then half the ideas that I see in the picture here are not on the menu either. The roasted califlower was the same bland. I'm sure I caught this restaurant on a really bad day cause you had to try to make food this bad. So if I'm really hungry and in the area I might try Picasso's again but????
Spencer
Favorite restaraunt by far! Love the shrimp and grits and the Kentucky hot brown.

Yummy! Definitely a little gem. Andie was our server and she could not have been nicer. All pasta is house made. Pizza was great and very flavorful. Can't wait to go back.

Excellent, authentic, flavor-full!
Great menu. Create your own (masterpiece) combinations. Real food, fresh, made fast, great prices. Can't go wrong. I'm so glad we found this place. Finally, "real" pizza!!!

This place is awesome! Great food, fantastic wait staff , nice atmosphere--total triple winner! We found this place here on the 'Spoon and decided to try it . I has the shrimp & grits-big hunks of succulent pancetta, sweet shrimp & soft, flavorful grits. Heaven! My husband had the 3 pastas, & because they were out of one, they allowed him to sub the lasagna Bolognese. He was very happy! Cheesy lasagna, & chicken cannelloni rounded out the plate. The little bites he shared were great. We alos had the devine Gooey Butter Cake, which Ashmore than enough for 2. Next time we are home, we''re going back to try the pizza. Highly recommend this place!

BEST PIZZA EVER!. Try the St. Louis pizza. It is made with a special blend of cheeses you can't get anywhere else!

This was some seriously good food. I waa visiting Jacksonville for the week. My wife and I went on Tuesday 9/18 and qe arrived it didnt look all that promising located away from the main road on the end of a small strip. That's where the unimpressed feeling ended thogh. As we were lucky the place was empty (to start). Service was amazing, they really knew what they were talking about. We ordered the fried mac n cheese and the cheese bread. The fried mac n cheese was amazing better than the other places that offer it. The cheese bread was better than I expected. The marinara sauce was by far the best I've had at any restaurant. My Wife ordered a St Louis style pizza and I had the pasta trio. The pizza was fresh and tastey and was cooked to perfection making my wife state "I've not had pizza before, just something they call pizza". The pasta trio was out of this world, even when they got busy food came fresh, hot and in a timely manner. I had the bread pudding for dessert and this was the BEST bread pudding Ive had (until later in the week). The price was cheap considering the quality, people pay way more to eat less quality like OG etc. It was so good we went back again on Thursday and the food was just as good if not better. Stuffed Mushrooms were fantastic, ravioli was awesome, the snapper was exceptional, the chocolate torte was so rich but so good, the papaya bread pudding was the best I've had even better than my first visit. If I go back to Jax then this place is a MUST to go back to.

Very good italian. Busy place, staff knows what they are doing...good menu with good food. Try it!

St. Louis Style for Real. This was stop number 2 on the Jacksonville pizza binge, and I wish that I had gotten here first. I was really only interested in trying slices, but could not resist ordering a St. Louis style pie as well.

For those not familiar with this style, the cheese used is called "provel", which is a combination of processed provolone, cheddar and swiss. It is disparaged by my purists, but while I am a purist, I love this cheese as sort of a guilty pleasure. Sort of like the processed cheese dip at Chili's is a guilty pleasure(really really guilty!).

Many in St. Louis love it, and it is indeed a unique regional style. These guys do it very well, much better than Imo's, the most famous purveyor of St. Louis style. Imo's crust is actually a cracker, this dough is fresh cracker like delicious. It will be my new stop for a provel fix in Jax.

They also do and adequate NY style, although I have not found a a fav in the area. Staff is great, and rest of the menu looks good.

Always a delight!. The food here is wonderful! The pizzas are delicious as well as all their other dishes. Eaten her a few times now and every item I've had has been great. Get's PACKED at dinner time so recommend getting take out if you can.

GREAT expereince...EVERY time. This is one of Jacksonville's hidden treasures. Picasso's has an expansive menu, great service, and is one of the few restaurants that I am absolutely fine with waiting for a table. The food is of quality made (and mostly local) ingriedients, the service is impeccable, and they strive to make every service special. Don't let the location (in a strip mall) deter you. This place is great for a family outing, a date, or a meal with friends. I wouldn't reccomend it if you're dining alone, but just an all-around good experience.

We gave it a try on a friday night. great service and food. the pizza and selection of toppings were great. my greek salad was delish! we will return as we thoroughly enjoyed the night out :) keep up the good work!

Love!. I am always pleased with my service and the food here. A great go to place when you can't decide what you want due to the varied menu. I would steer away from the pasta dishes as there is so much better fare on the menu. My fave is the eggplant stacker app that has the most delicious dressing and the white pizza with roasted shallots.
Candham
Pizza undercooked. The pizza here is too rare for my taste. The oven isn't hot enough.

Tasty. Decided to try Picasso's for dinner on a Friday night-they do have call ahead seating f.y.i We ordered the toasted ravioli, stuffed mushrooms, "da cheeseburger", "the gift", and "the hawaiian-luau style" both pizzas were ordered St. Louis style. Everything we had was delicious. Both pizzas were excellent I would highlyl recommend ordering both of these and the cheeseburger was really tasty, the fries were hand cut! Not only was the food great but our server Brad was really good too-very attentive, polite and funny! We will definitely be back to Picasso's even though it is kind of a drive from our house.

Don't waste your time. I'm not sure why the reviews are so good. Went last night the hostess was unpleasant and the wait 30 minutes. The food was marginal. Pasta over cooked and the pizza was soggy and had way too much cheese and no sauce, not to mention the cost really was not that inexpensive. Skip this place.

No longer st. louis pizza. When i first started going there, the pizza was an exact replica of st. louis pizza, especially farotto's pizza which is where one of the original owners used to work......i don't know if he is still there...........it is now more tomato-ey, has more sauce, just is not the same..............and i agree with one of the reviewers who said that the bottom has been too blackened on several occasions, especially with take-outs.............it's still good but so sad for me to see the change..............it is no longer the st. louis pizza i grew up on

Hands down my favorite restaurant. Every pizza I've had is so good, appetizers are big and delicious, and weirdly enough the atmosphere does add to the restaurant, its always got business and many return customers. Ugh, so good. I love this place.
Sandy
99 percent. I love this place. My family drives across town twice a month to have dinner or lunch. Our favorite is the Cuban sandwich . Yesterday we made the drive and my mouth was watering for a Cuban. For the first time I was dissatisfied, The bread usually has a salty coating and this time it just had oil, and the ham was not the same. The chips were from a different company and were not good. That being said I will go back since this is the first time out of many trips that I was unhappy. Hope next time it's the way it used to be!

Awesome Food!. My family and I travel to Jacksonville regularly throughout the year and we always eat at Picasso's, at least once each trip! My husband's goal is to eventually eat the entire menu! My 4 yr old tells us it is the best Mac N Cheese ever (it really is)! I personally love the St. Louis Style pizza and the Bar-B-Que Shrimp.....yummy! We have never had anything we didn't like there. It is SO much more than your typical pizzeria! It is fantastic!

Food is impeccable!. The food is impeccable! The menu hasn't changes much in the past few years since I have been there, but the food is something to be said about the consistency of a perfected kitchen. The shrimp and grits, the eggplant parm and the steak are my favorite. I decided to try the steak on a recommendation of a local food critic. She was right on the money, best steak I have ever had period. Be prepared to wait a bit, they are always busy when we go. But, I much rather dine at a busy restaurant than an empty one.
Frank
Stopped by one night on a whim, great ambiance, wide range on menu, including a $28.00 steak that looked out of place on menu, lots of Italian dishes with pizza and burgers as well. Decent selection of beers and wines. Was very disappointed by Bruschetta, was almost $7 and was only six discs if bread. Pizza was ok only, although they offer two type and we went with the new York over the Mediterranean, no rush to go back, but would again.

TO THE OWNER-READ YOUR REVIEWS! It use to be a fav but I have changed my opinion. The pizzas lately have been toasted up black underneath or have been "thrown" together, ending up looking like SLOP as my fiancé called it! It seems like they either have changed cooks or they just don't care anymore! SAD - they use to make great pizzas! To those newbies: before going read reviews, we didn't and service is pretty bad! After those first few times, we stopped going in and just placed "to go orders" like other reviewers had stated! The owner really needs to think about firing some waiters (I could point out a few...) and maybe a few of the patrons would consider returning! To the reviewer that had their pizza taste like gasoline (so sorry you had that experience...I bet I could point out the waiter!) Spinach salads will always be delicious!
BeachCampin
Disappointing. Had dinner there with my family and the wait was horrible, the inside was way too noisy. The worst part was the kids pizza ended up tasting like gasoline. GASOLINE! The only thing I can figure is that it had pineapple on it and it got burned. But then when we told our waiter, he couldn't have been more indifferent. After I mentioned it a second time he offered to replace it, but really by that point we had shared our dinner with the kids and it was just too late to salvage it. ugh. We'll not be back. I think if I was a waiter and I was told that the food tasted like gasoline I would talk to a manager and have them come over as something went seriously wrong. This guy just wanted to go home.

Best Restaurant in Mandarin!. Mandarin has needed a great, privately owned restaurant, Picasso's delivers on that. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone, the food is outstanding. It is a smaller restaurant, so it can get busy and packed around dinner time. So i would recommend coming earlier than 6 :00 if you want to get seated and not have to wait. But, it is definitely worth the wait. They are open for lunch too and never that busy during this time. The pizzas are great and so are almost all of the appetizers and entrees. Check them out, it is worth it!

The food was good. I enjoyed the spinach salad with goat cheese, the fried mac and cheese wasn't bad but needed something.. I did just have a bangin truffle mac and cheese at Zambra in Asheville so this was bland in comparison. Service was so-so, the waiter was a bit overbearing (for my taste) and messed up part of the order but no big deal. Will check it out next time I'm in town.

St. Louis Style Pizza all the way.... The pasta was excellent here, but the St. Louis Style pizza just plain knocks it out of the park...

Great, thin crust pizza is at a premium in Jacksonville. Just wish they would open a Picasso's near the beach.

Chicago Pizza also offers a thin crust (even cut in squares), but the beach location has been fair to downright poor in their consistency.

I hope Al's finally falls from grace for being the best pizza by the local trade paper. They are another franchise that just not be consistent.

Buddy

I love the menu...it is a nights entertainment, in itself! The food is good and the owner is lovely! They really seem to care about your experience. They always gave coupons in the entertainment book, which is great! Be prepared to wait....they are busy!
Corryn
The pasta trio was amazing! Best egg plant parm that I've ever had!! Also do not leave without trying the decadent chocolate tort!!! The head chef's mom makes all the desserts from scratch!

Would only go for the Pizza. Went and ordered the Greek salad and the maccaroni and cheese...greek salad had canned olives ..did not look or taste greek more like a regular salad....the mac and cheese was EXCELLENT would go back for that also noticed that everyone in the place appears to have ordered pizza my bad should have ordered pizza they had happy faces on...

Undecided. I went here for lunch with Chew Chew on 7/3. Didn't realize they shut down between lunch and dinner, so we got there about 20 minutes before they were closing after lunch. We were greated and felt welcomed even though they were trying to ramp things down between lunch and dinner.

I ordered the New Orleans BBQ shrimp and Spinach Salad. The spinach salad was great, very fresh, excellent dressing! I was not impressed with the BBQ shrimp. I have eatten BBQ shrimp in the French Quarter and these are not even close. Way too spicy! I was looking forward to having a deza' vu of my trip to Nawlins but alas that didn't happen.

Chew Chew ordered the Greek salad and Fried Mac and Cheese. She was disappointed with the greek salad, but thought the fried mac and cheese was good (very different than what she was expecting).

Picasso's was very nicely decorated, very warm and inviting. However I was not expecting it to be a semi self serve restaurant from the reviews posted here. I won't rule out going here again, but I will just choose a better time to go.

They make their own pasta from scratch. This place has legitimate hard core cooks that love what they do AND the food is affordable. My girlfriend had the best burger she ever ate. The decor is fantastic. Do not underestimate this hole in the wall next to the trek bicycle store. Awesome food.

Excellent!. I have been to Picasso's on a few occasions with work and also with family. Chris and Scott are great in the kitchen but also take the time to come and follow up with you while dining. they have a great selection of wine and the food is great value for the price. Highly recommend going. the wait staff is very attentive and knowledgeable...great atmosphere, small but nice, and kind of a hidden gem...

Although Pablo Picasso was of Spanish descent, my gut tells me that he would be delighted to be the inspiration for this authentic Italian cuisine. The renassaince of gourmet food items contrasted against traditional old world dishes makes for a colorful explosion of flavor. Their entrees are decently portioned while their pizzas are the best value around town. Even the appetizers live up to their name. Prepare to leave room for their decadent desserts which though plain sounding are sure to surprise with their own hidden secrets. The service was friendly and prompt and never overdone. Lastly prepare for a crowd at dinner rush. Our first visit was met with a 45 minute wait.

Picasso's = Satisfaction. We had a large birthday celebration at Picasso's and everything was wonderful. The staff was on point. The environment for our party was intimate. The food was wonderful - Grits and shrimp dish is to die for!!!!

Works of art!. Picasso's delivers. Not sure, (literally), but with what I think is the BEST Pizza South of NY -and for Mid-Westerners, Chicago-ans. Folks, I mean, this is practically a gourmet restaurant of pizza, with many styles -regardless of where you may be from, although some of the "names" overlap, thin crust - NY/St.Louis, etc. Whats significant is the ingredients, that as any pizza expert will tell you makes or breaks: real mozzarella and other cheeses- not imitation, half imitation, etc., deftly seasoned dough, and tomato sauce, and all the extras. Thin crust deep oven baked, no matter the origin, to me is where it's at and this propels a seemingly simple food into, indeed, into a work of art. The desserts, I've tried are also delish, and you cannot beat the price for this kinda of simple quality.
Tastes for all tastes - this place is superb!

We LOVE Picasso's. My family and I absolutely love Picasso's. My husband always tries the pizza. When I go for dinner with the ladies he insists I bring a whole pizza home for him.

I love the spinach salad and have to order the big one everytime I'm with my children. This salad is so great, it has my 3 and 7 year old asking for goat cheese on a regular basis. My new favorite is the pesto. All of their pasta is homemade. My sons love to have the toasted ravioli with my salad and I love the bruschetta- different everytime based n the ingredients they can get fresh.

I have also had the shrimp and grits- yummy cheesy goodness!!! The Shepherd's pie seemed to melt in my mouth as the tender beef was freshly ground onsite.

As for the service- FANTASTIC and sooo friendly. They have always been so accomodating when our spouse's club has had events there- splitting checks between a huge group and not being too pushy when we've closed the place down.

I love Picasso's and will miss it terribly when we move on.

Greatest Resteraunt EVER. Honestly this is possibly the best food I've ever had. The atmosphere is wonderful, friendly, and welcoming if i could id eat there every meal of every day

Can be better. Some of the best food in town with some of the worst service I have ever seen in Jacksonville. My wife and I have visited this establishment at least 5 times hoping each time would be better then the last. This I am sadden to say did not happen. Our last visit we ordered two sandwiches that took 48 minutes to arrive at our table.
The owner/chef did come out to our table and try to put a spin on the reason why it took so long for our order. He also offered us a dessert to help make amends for the situation. Although if he does this with all people who complain about the service then I guess he will not sell any dessert just give them away.
I would recommend if you are going to eat at this restaurant call for take out.

Best Burger in town. I was really really surprised how good it was. Great bun and just the right amount of seasoning.
And a heck of alot cheaper than the 5 people place!

Went there last night for the first time; it was fabulous! The stuffed mushrooms were so fresh! I had the Trio; awesome! You could tell the owner knew what he was doing, and takes pride in his business- great to see these days!

Truly refreshing gourmet dining without the hefty price tag. I dined first for lunch with friends and fell in love! Fabulous spinach salad! All reviews were raves! Went back with hubby and 4 yo children for Sunday lunch. Again, I was thrilled and my husband was very impressed. This trip, spinach salad, smoked turkey sandwich, garlic cheese twists, and chicken fingers for the kids.....everything was excellent!! Perfect for families and date nights without the fuss. In this economy, restauranteurs are scrambling to survive. Some have prices set too high for the average family. We'll be back to Picasso's hungry for more! I think we'll be seeing great things from them for a long time:)
