I’m from south Louisiana.... and this place is truthfully the only restaurant outside of the state that I’ve ever been to that makes me feel at home! I eat here every time I’m in Dallas... The food and atmosphere are hole-in-the-wall down home New Orleans cooking, the only thing you can’t do is exit the restaurant and step into the French Quarter, love this place!
Loved the food and environment! Got to meet the owner and gave us a great personal touch. Wait staff was on top of our every need! Not many eating establishments that make you feel at home. We highly recommend Po Melvin's. Will definitely make this a regular stop!
Po Melvins is a hidden Gem. Our server Jose was great. The manager David came by and was wonderful as well. The portions are huge. You experience great New Orleans cuisine atmosphere and service. We need a location in Ft Worth badly!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Po Melvins is a MUST when you are in Dallas. I grew up going to this restaurant with my family and continue to go here every time I am back in town. A trip back to TX is not complete rithoit going here. EVERYTHING is good, but my faves are chicken fried chicken, fried oysters, pot roast, and chicken and dumplings. You also get 3 sides! I go for fried okra, mashed taters, and green beans. Hurricanes are also a must. Yeps.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ to Mel and his staff, as they are super friendly, the food, and the environment in general...very laid back and you never know who may run into. I met Emmit Smith there once!!
I visited for the first time yesterday. My seater/host turned out to be Melvin, who's name is on the sign. Long story short, after free samples of their black eyed peas & roast, a delicious CFS lunch with a free additional side & loaf of jalapeño cornbread, AND a complimentary huge bowl of their pecan cobbler, I'm a fan. Tasty food, great service, and an owner that actually puts in work at his place = good things!
All the food has so much flavor in it. Some of my favorite are chicken fried chicken,jalapeño cornbread, chicken fried steak,black eye pea and well, everything they cooked. The one thing you have to try
is the mashed potatoes, delicious. We live in Garland so can only eat there when we are in the area ☹️

We had a party of 13 on my B'day courtesy of my SIL whom are regulars at Po's, so we all had a variety of plates served and everyone was pleased.. we had Catfish (yummy) Meatloaf, Gumbo Soup, Grilled Chicken, Chicken strips for the kiddos and appetizers, loved the jalapeño poppers. I had the Meatloaf but if I may say I would've loved gravy w/mushrooms on top instead of the tomato base sauce it had. Service was EXCELLENT our waiter a Hispanic fellow was prompt and courteous!!.. Will definitely come back for Catfish it was very good and crunchy and Gumbo!! ☆☆☆☆☆

My company reached out to Po Melvins to Cater an event for special needs kids. This request came with very short notice. Po Melvins far exceeded our request. Their generosity and kindness helped to make our event a huge success. On top of that the food was delicious!!! Thank you so much!!!

My husband brought me here last night for dinner and the food and service were excellent...he had catfish I had chicken fried chicken both were great...we'll be back again and again!!

I ordered online and my order was ready and waiting when I walked in. The shrimp Po' Boy was outstanding. The bread was soft and fresh. Toppings were fresh. The shrimp was seasoned well and delicious. I would've liked an extra shrimp or two but that's just a bit of a nitpick. 9/10.
The fries though... they were soggy and unsalted. 1/10 on the fries. I'd strongly suggest getting salt and ranch if you are going to try to eat these things. Even then it might be rough. Po Melvins- please put a little more love into your fry game.
I stopped in today for my first visit.. small menu but pleased with my choices.. I got the large seafood gumbo bowl, tasty.. entree was fried pork chops with red beans & rice, fries. lightly battered, delicious meal - haven’t seen lemons served with fried pork chops before lol
My daughter had chicken fried steak with cajun rice, yams and greens with jalapeño cornbread. Loved everything except cajun rice. I had pork chops fried with yams and cabbage and a roll. I enjoyed my meal immensely. Worth the price. We had planned to take out but once we got there we loved the atmosphere and changed our minds. We also had peach cobbler. Didn't get a pic sorry my phone had died as I went straight from work. Next time. It tastes like the ones my mom made.
Po Melvin’s is one of our family’s staples! We love everything here. Favorites include chicken fried steak, red beans and rice, chicken and dumplings, fried okra, bayou balls, jalapeño corn bread, and bread pudding.
Staff is very friendly! Remodel looks great. It’s always clean and fresh looking inside.
Great spot for family dinner or to catch a drink at the bar. Does not disappoint!
First time trying this place. I got the chicken fried steak. It was very good all the sides were also good. For the price I paid was very good for all the food. For me there was more than I could would have taken home for later but visiting from out of state.
Delicious food. Good prices. Ok service. We will be back. Everything we had was yummy. The fish was huge and well seasoned
First rate Cajun food restaurant. Owner was present and stopped by the table. Waiter was quick and friendly. Had the gumbo and jalapeño cornbread for lunch. Pretty darn good. Would recommend you stop by and eat. 11/10 will be back
