This is a place you should go to try more authentic Italian food. I've been here multiple times and never left disappointed. Only downside it more authentic Italian equals a little bit more expensive Italian.

Fabulous salads! Fresh, and large portions! The Insalata Bistecca came with not just a few pieces of meat, but rather a buttery full steak on my salad! I would not only recommend, but encourage people to try this restaurant.

Outstanding ambiance and food to match. Trio bruschetta followed by strawberry walnut salad then the sweet corn risotto and artichoke ravioli and dessert of lemon cake. Yum! Add a very good and playful waitress-Katie made the evening wonderful!

Passing through town and pleasantly surprised. Much more interesting and classic menu than your pasta heavy style italian. Many ingediants were probably not fresh, but the kitchen does a fantastic job with what they have. Very well done decor.

Very Good Meal. My wife and I dined at Cafe Verona on a Saturday night in early December of 2012. We made a same-day reservation and were seated immediately upon arrival. We ordered the buffalo mozzarella and toasted ravioli to start, both were very good, especially the basil pesto served with the ravioli. The main courses were quite substantial, my wife ordered the carbonara and I ordered the grilled ribeye. While the ribeye was not served in the traditional 'cowtown' style, it was very flavorful and was complimented by the whipped garlic potatoes and perfectly cooked vegetables. My wife's carbonara was very rich, which is to be expected when one orders a pasta dish that contains creme and bacon. We shared a cannoli for dessert and were very pleased with our knowledgable and attentive server. Our bill, for 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, dessert and drinks was around $75 with tip, but one could still eat a nice meal between $40 and $50 if you skip the extra appetizer and the drinks.

Perfect lunch spot!. We eat here quite a lot! Food is wonderful (Chicken Piccata is a favorite) The Pinini's are really good...any of them! Upscale ...but affordable. Also the Mojito's are to die for! Patio for lunch with Mojito's...I think yes!

Cravings from Phoenix. In February, my mother got married, and as it was a small ceremony, had her reception at Cafe Verona. Growing up in KC, I'd heard of this little hole in the wall, but never been. Now, 23 and living in Phoenix, I'm desperate to go back. We did the family style servings, which is four courses (chosen beforehand by my mother), that each come out on four plates, placed along the table to be shared by the guests. One of these wonderful plates contained the Lemon Basil Shrimp. Now, my mother's wedding was a month ago, and since I have returned to Phoenix, the only craving on my mind, day in and day out, is this dish. The shrimp were huge, perfectly cooked, with that pleasant snap as you bite into each one. The lemon sauce was, quite frankly, the best damn pasta sauce I've ever had in my life. Ever. I've spent the past month frantically scouring the internet for a potential runner up, but to no avail. Luckily for me, as half the table couldn't/wouldn't eat the shrimp, we got to take home approximately four large to go boxes of the glorious shrimp, two of which were happily gobbled down by me. This was the best shrimp pasta dish I've ever consumed, and I will now be visiting Cafe Verona on each return trip home, alone if I must, just for this dish.

Best Italian in The Metro?. Bold statement right? This place can back it up. It's on par or a nose ahead of some of the best Italian offered in the metro. It's not cheap (and good Italian shouldn't be), but they have good service and an upscale but relaxed atmosphere that matches their delicious dishes to a T. Highly recommended. (It's also worth noting that these guys do portions right. I always leave full, but don't feel like a pig with 4 servings on my plate when it comes to the table.)

Good food, cozy atmosphere. Husband and I happened to be in Independence Friday night and decided to give it a try. We were impressed right off by the inviting patio that is just outside the front door-though it was much to cold to indulge in an al fresco meal that night, I bet we'll be back to give the patio a try. We had a lovely meal. Started with martini's then on to yummy fig and walnut spinach salads. While we were waiting for our entrees we played the little conversation topic game that was on our table, it's always fun to learn something new about your spouse. When our entrees came we had already devoured most of the bread basket with our martinis. I had the lemon basil shrimp pasta and I don't remember what my husband had. Mine was very good and served attractively. The service was good and the restaurant had a very cozy feel to it. We'll be back.

Getting Better Each Visit. I've come here a handful of times and each trip, the food gets better. Overall, I'd rate this as a decent Italian place, which ranks higher than any chain (ex: Zio's, Macaroni Grill, and the ever horrible Olive Garden).

As far as the service goes, each time we get the same guy. And he is great. I've read a few reviews about sub par service. I can't really speak to it, considering my small sample size of servers (uno).

After a rough patch of stagnation, this little hideaway has finally come out shining. The menu is getting updates and they even offer somewhat overpriced wine tastings! It's so nice having this type of place so close to home in eastern Jackson County.

Wow! Nicole was a Superb server.. full of historical information about the Square, personable and spot on taking care of our needs. The food here was just awesome. The Mushroom lover’s pasta was hot and creamy and delicious. The parmigiana sandwich was well prepared and beautiful to look at. And the desserts.. omg I should have said no when Nicole asked but man I’m glad I didn’t. The Citrus cake and cannoli egg rolls were a perfect ending to what was a great visit to this locally owned Italian cafe.

Tried the calamari and fell in love, the seasoning in the breading is the best I've ever had. The pasta dishes are easily shareable and delicious, so you can get away with splitting it. Make a reservation on the weekends for a table, but the bar was open. Can't recommend this restaurant enough.

Perfect. The entire staff was pleasant and welcoming. The host was cheerful and was active (probably the busser too?). Food was great. Fries are crispy and hot. Parmesan crisp on the Cesar was great and the roasted tomatoes were awesome. Everyone enjoyed their entrees. Maybe next time we'll try the pasta 🙂! Dessert Cannolis are spectacular!

I love the look of this place. Their courtyard truly reminds me of being in Italy. My server Andy was awesome and friendly. I had White sangria, the salmon and Parmesan risotto, and I also got cannolis. The cannolis were to die for.❤️❤️❤️

Food was outstanding! It was my birthday celebration and couldn't have celebrated at a better establishment with my family and especially the grandkids. Ambiance was divine and the service was wonderful. Xavier treated us with kid gloves. Request him for your server when dine here. You won't be disappointed! Indeed a wonderful dining experience 👌

We are so glad that Cafe Verona is back open. Even on a limited schedule (please check the website for updates), it is not only the best Italian restaurant in Independence, but the best one, overall. The new menu is deep with classics and familiar fare. We can't wait to make our way through the new options.
