J. B. Boondocks Bar & Grill

This is a little gem tucked away lakeside in Howey in the Hills. Since we're local to the area, we'll stop in once or twice a month. We dropped in at 12 noon, and parking was no problem. Parking can get tight at dinner time or during the summer months. We were seated within a minute at a window table, providing us with a great view of Little Lake Harris. It's definitely a locals place, but there are plenty of first-time visitors. Our server was friendly and attentive. The menu has recently been updated with a few changes, but my favorites were still present. My wife went for the shaved beef sub, and I had the Fish Fry, which was Red Snapper that day. I also had the corn fritters for a side. I tried the Founder's Porter for a drink, and my wife had a glass of red wine. Personally, I've always believed frying seafood was the worst thing one could do to fish or shrimp. But I was pleasantly surprised with the light but flavorful batter cooked to perfection. The corn fritters were an excellent alternative to fries or chips. My wife upgraded to sweet potato fries, which really topped off her meal. Unfortunately, the Coconut Bomb cake has fallen off the dessert menu, but the Florida Orange cake is a great alternative. All in all, a very nice lunch in a nice, laid-back, casual atmosphere.

Wanted a place to eat w a view. This place was perfect! Had a view of Old Florida. The staff was friendly and gave good service. Husband had seafood platter. The fish and shrimp were perfectly cooked and were super crispy and not greasy. I had grandmas meatloaf. Delicious brown gravy topped off the mashed potatoes perfectly. You can get burgers and sandwiches or really nice entrees. All the desserts looked homemade but we were too full. Definitely worth a day trip for an eating destination w a view.

Since refurbishing JB Boondocks Bar & Grill in 1999, the restaurant has become a favorite gathering place for both locals and visitors. You can arrive by boat, pontoon, seaplane or car to enjoy their outdoor or indoor dining, entertainment and more. A former fish camp, serving seafood & comfort eats in simple surroundings with outside seating and awesome lake views. With over 20+ years in the same location JB Boondocks has become known for it’s high quality food and business standards. I enjoyed their Beef Stroganoff. Tender strips of beef sirloin seared, tossed in a rich mushroom wine sauce with onions, served over pasta with a dollop of sour cream. Very good! My wife loved their Spinach Steak Salad. Fresh baby spinach leaves topped with sliced grilled beef, crumbled bleu cheese, pickled red onions, candied pecans and dried cranberries. Drizzled with a smoky chipotle ranch dressing. We will be back!

Beautiful view. My fiance and I came in for dinner. I had the turkey sandwich with a side of coleslaw and my fiance had the burger and fries. It was a good, stacked turkey sandwich, but for what they charge, the side of coleslaw could have been a bit bigger. My fiance said the burger was good but the fries were way overcooked -- very, very crunchy. Cody was our server. He was super nice but acted like he just started working there, and I'm pretty sure he worked there when we came in last year. He seems to lack confidence in his abilities and he apologized...A LOT!!! He was attentive and very accommodating, so I hope he gains more confidence and learns to relax.

Decided to go here on a whim... We wanted to try something different and off the beaten path. Cody was our server. He was very attentive, polite, and on pointe! We ordered Gator tail, Cole slaw side, and the Seafood platter. Both dishes were great! Gator tail was perfect ( it was NOT chewy like many places!!)
