Review Eugene's Gulf Coast Cuisine - Houston

Just a great experience for my friend’s birthday dinner. Staff was great about adding seats as our party unexpectedly grew by a few people. Food was phenomenal, 7 people everyone thought their entrees were great. Server was great and everything ordered came out correct. This place isn’t on a main road but should be on your radar. I’ll be back for sure, would be a great date spot.

Everything was excellent, and the owner even came by to chat for a few minutes. My sole criticism is that the service needs improvement. Overall, GREAT experience worth every dollar! Don't forget to try the sweet potatoes. You'll be glad you did!

I finally tried this place after hearing about it constantly since they opened. Eugene’s happy hour menu is one of the better ones in the River Oaks area. Fresh Gulf Oysters on the half shell are $1.25 a piece. Half a dozen is only $7.50 and a dozen is $15. The oysters were very fresh and plump. Priced at $12.95 the Calamari Dillon appears to be expensive for Happy Hour but the bartender informed me that it is a full order which normally goes for $16.45. I found the Calamari fried to perfection and was not chewy at all. The portion was quite large and is perfect for sharing. The Catfish Pieces were decent and the Boudin Balls were okay. The Mini Crab Cakes were tasty. The 4 ounce Happy Hour Angus Beef Burger is the perfect size for Happy Hour. The $7 house wine is reasonable considering that my bartender was quite generous with each pour. I had the Surf and Turf (Gulf Coast Style) for dinner. My 8 ounce Filet Mignon was cooked to my specified medium rare plus. It was one of the better steaks that I have had recently. It was very tender. There were four fried shrimps on top of the filet mignon which added to the enjoyment of my meal. My two sides were sautéed spinach and French fries. Simple. But both made my entrée very hearty. For dessert we ordered the Crème Brûlée and Hazelnut Ice Cream Affogato. The Crème Brulee was pretty standard but I really liked the Affogato. It is one of my favorite dessert items. I will order it if it’s on the menu. Eugene’s is a very pleasant and comfortable local restaurant. It is upscale but not fussy. Service is good. I will be back to try many of the other items on the large menu.

For our last and final night in Houston, we wanted to check out a very local restaurant. Not the most photogenic food, but boy was it delicious. Great seafood gumbo, wonderful oyster stew, shrimp etoufee, and all kinds of sides and fixins . They had quite the selection of fresh caught local fish on the menu, but we never got that far. This is also one of the few places that would allow us to bring our own wine which of course we enjoyed immensely. #thefoodietraveler

I love the happy hour oyster bar. My girlfriend and I went there for the raw oysters. They were delicious and only $1.50 each as of 11/24/23. We bought 18. The mini crab cakes were delicious as well. Seafood gumbo (not on the happy hour menu) was a little bitter for our taste. Overall great seafood, great service, and classy vibes.

One of Houston's best restaurants by far and definitely Michelin star worthy. Everything was excellent, and the owner even came by to chat for a few minutes. My sole criticism is that the service needs improvement. Servers need to carry crumb scrapers (we had crab claws with crunchy garlic bread to sop up the heavenly sauce, but the crust was messy) and attend to the tidyness of the tables better. We had to clean up the mess ourselves and ask for new napkins. Also had our waiter forget to bring a glass of wine when he wasn't doing anything but talking to another waiter. Overall, GREAT experience worth every dollar! Don't forget to try the sweet potatoes. You'll be glad you did!

This was the first time at Eugene's Gulf Coast Cuisine. Come early as parking is hard to find. However they do offer valet. I don't know the price. As we walked in we were greeted with a warm welcome from the hostess. We did have reservations and strongly recommend making reservations beforehand. The deco was really nice and very open. The staff was kind and hospitable. The food was amazing, it's a restaurant I would definitely come time and time again to try different things on their menu.

Waze introduced me to Eugene's. After driving by during heavy traffic and reading the Google Reviews, I had to give it a try. My husband and I returned to enjoy Saturday happy hour. Their specialty drinks were wonderful. And the food was great.

We came to Eugene's prior to a show downtown. The time of our reservation allowed us to enjoy Happy Hour and a delicious meal. Service was well-paced attentive and not overbearing. Everything arrived hot (luke warm food is not a positive in my book) and was very good. So good, in fact, that we're returning with the daughter tomorrow night. I regret not dining here sooner.

Solid spot for seafood - think Pappadeaux’s but better. There are a few non-seafood options but I would recommend stick with seafood as that’s what they do best. The oysters are a must try and for dessert, definitely try BUDDY'S CHOCOLATE CAKE.

When you first walk in, you are welcomed by encapsulating music and the sound of conversations happening around the room. Then the hostess welcomes you and takes you to your table where you can't help but notice how you are captured by the ambience of the restaurant. It sets the mood for a relaxing meal with friends or family as you can tell you will not be rushed. The waiter was very conversive in the menu and extremely helpful. Drinks were on happy hour so we were able to endure ourselves along with some fresh oysters. Very succulent! After letting that settle and having a delightful conversation we ordered our main course and another round of drinks. Dinner came and my wife had the soft shell crab which she she devoured and savored every bite. I had the special which was sea bass in a wine cream sauce. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. By the time we finished and decided to pay the bill, we realized that 3 hours had passed and it went by in a flash. Will definitely be back as we love not being rushed!

Eugene's is a classic environment. Their services is good it was very quite on a Saturday evening. Their oysters were really good and fresh. We tried the crab cakes shrimp and grits and stuffed shrimp. The crab cakes are OK, nothing fancy. The shrimp and grits were different not my favorite but one of the others in our group loved it. The stuffed shrimp is amazing. It is a little pricey for the serving size but you pay for the ambiance. Over all I'll definitely be returning oh there is also a Saturday happy hour. Eugene's is good.

Restaurant itself is really nice and well decorated. Valet is convenient and the umbrellas are a nice touch. Food was delicious but took a star off because scallops were burnt and it needs more bathroom stalls.

You will thank yourself for coming here..I love this restaurant!!! If you ever feel like you want to treat yourself, please come here. Baked oysters were perfection - meat was tender as could be, cooked exactly to temp - still soft & delicious 2 days later. Bake potatoes are sooo stacked, you will never feel cheated ordering the loaded baked. Literally have not had such a good baked potato since the 90s - we need more restaurants like this!! Thank you!!

Tried this place out for the first time and this place is so very quaint and beautiful. The ambiance is peaceful and inviting. They put us in a separate area since it was 7 of us which was very nice because it was more private. The waiter was very nice and attentive. The appetizers came out fast and we're delish our dinner came out fast as well and it was delicious. I definitely need to come here on a date !

High end place that requests proper attire to enter. Parking is very limited and reserved for the vallet but the nearby neighborhood offers street parking if you don't mind walking a block or two. There wasn't much of a crowd during lunch on a Friday, so we got seated right away. The oysters are great, we had the plain and the oysters johnny we're unique and delicious. The salmon bianca was ok but the sauce was a little too salty. The onion rings had a good hickory smoke flavor to it. Customer service was great.

Always a great choice. The food is delicious (NEVER had anything that I couldn't highly receommend) & the staff are outstanding. Parking can be a bit rough if you choose to self-park, but that's why there's a valet right at the door.

Amazing service. Attentive, thoughtful, and helpful. Food is good. Oysters are fresh. Tried the daily special soft shelled crab. The sides are well made as well. Nice the ambiance as well. A neighbourhood gem.

We were in the city for the stock show and visited Danton’s for my wife birthday. We had a reservation for 7 and arrived 15 minutes early and we seated right away. There were a few soups and salads ordered,my crawfish bisque was very good.Entrees ordered were fried oysters, shrimp Alfredo, shrimp poor boy, stuff shrimp, crawfish étouffée,and a chicken dish. The chicken wasn’t enjoyed because of a hot tasting spice that made it to hot to eat but all the other dish were excellent.I actually enjoyed the etouffee more than that papa place. The restaurant had a nice ambiance,we didn’t see our waitress often enough for my liking but she had two helpers that were always working at our table.Desserts were ordered and the pecan ice cream ball and the peanut butter ice cream pie were wonderful dessert. We will definitely dine there again when are wanting seafood for dinner.

Have you had the best seafood in your life ever??? Doubt it if you haven't eaten here. Stuffed shrimp with crawfish was utterly Devine and the gumbo was literally godsend. The creme brûlée was borderline crimanal so you need to be gangster to eat it. You will not be disappointed!

Danton's is one of those little restaurants hidden in Montrose that's been around for ages but this is the first time we tried it. It's a seafood restaurant and they have Oysters all kinds all ways and they have fish. I got the stuffed flounder and it was stuffed with a crab mix that was really really good. Bob tried the shrimp and grits . He said they aren't as good as the restaurant we went to in South Carolina called High Cotton . But it was real close . We also got crab stuffed jalapenos as an appetizer with Monterey Jack cheese and some other stuff in there and then we had crab cakes. Everything was delicious. They even saute spinach there that really was good because I don't care for cooked spinach but this one tasted very good. You should go by there when you get a chance but you need to make a reservation to get in. There is a parking lot.

Great food and the music is Fantastic. A great place to go to if you love good food and live music on Sunday.

My husband and I have been here 4 times always outstanding. For some reason this time the tea tasted strange, probably just so hot in Houston right now, but they made a fresh batch and replaced it and it tasted great. Red snapper is wonderful!!! Yes

Me and my wife are Seafood lover's. Wev'e been to many Seafood Restaurants here in Houston, but i must say this was some of the best Seafood that we have ever had here in Houston. The appetizers were incredible, the entrees were incredible. We will definitely be revisiting real soon .

The food was excellent, the drinks were excellent as well. The service was perfection. The GM actually waited on us and he was so nice. I really enjoyed the music. I love this place and will continue to go there. Never a bad experience.

The gumbo is almost as good as mom’s! The crab fingers were lacking in taste otherwise I’d give it 5 stars. I’ll try a different appetizer next time.

First time here but will definitely be back. The Blues band was very good. Had one of the most relaxing meals we’ve had in a long time. Our waiter (I think his name is Barry) was superb. Very attentive, accommodating and was spot on with his recommendations. Thank you for a perfect dining experience.

Everyone kept telling me to go....wow, the best! The oysters were perfect, the boidin ball appetizer was amazing . Great food and the bartender was wonderful as well.
Shannon Christine
Sandra was amazing!! If you go eat here, please ask for her! My bisque was flavorful! The courtbouillon and shrimp creole was also delicious ! The only thing we weren't happy with was the gumbo. For some reason the roux tasted burnt. Everything else was great! Sandra suggested delicious moscato and we ( or I) drank the whole bottle lol. I'll be back next week !
Tyler Henderson
Delicious blue crab stuffed shrimp and boudin balls. Oh yeah and cold beer! I'll be back
