Review Pepper Twins - Houston

What’s not to love about this place? I haven’t been looking for a premium chinese place to eat and I finally found it... it is pepper twins. Just please tell them to tone down the use of the peppercorn... there are other ingredients there. Lunch deal is fantastic. I got the pepper twins chicken, two fried dumpling and white rice for less than $10. My husband also loves this place - the portion of food is fantastic. We had leftover for the next day. The service was great. The parking was not... I would not want to eat here on a busy day... finding a parking would not be fun. However, on a calm day, I would love to come here!

Fantastic food options. The staff is great at helping with recommendations and pairings. The "pepper twin" items are a must have regardless of how many times you visit. Boiled fish, fried beans, and the list goes on Not a great choice if you are a vegan.

Let me take a moment to talk about this place lol. This was my first time coming here recommend by my sister. We had a big group of loud Mexicans lol and the waiters we're very attentive. The food came out super fast and it was GLORIOUS. The food is so delicious and fresh I was AMAZED. So much flavor. The place was HOT and when we brought it to the attention of the waiter they quickly changed the temperature. We stayed there until close and they did not complain or make faced. They were awesome. Everything was great. They messed up on my card transaction and when I noticed the next day and I emailed them they quickly fixed it and refunded me the money. I will recommend this place to everyone and I will be coming back!!!!

Loved every dish I ordered! Highly recommend their egg tomato veggie dish. Such a classic Chinese dish and Pepper Twins made it on point. So juicy, yet perfect egg taste. The appetizer menu--beef tendon was alright. Not too special. But still good. It's a cold dish, but they bring rice almost simultaneously, so I enjoyed eating it together with the warm rice. Malatang was alright. Could be better. The portion in general is enough!

If you like spicy, this a great place to go. The dan dan noodles are a great starter, and the twice cooked pork is bursting with flavor. The water cooked fish is different from what I've had in the past, but still really good; just make sure you're prepared for the mala spice!

Love the close knit feel of this restaurant, the atmosphere, employees are friendly and food is great. The pricing is on spot and we will be back no doubt. We ordered the fried chicken cubes, cumin beef, fried cod fish, bok choy, green beans and cold-cold waters...lol.

The lunch deal is incredible value and highly recommended. Got my first visit here I tried the Pepper Twins Chicken. A little too peppery for my taste but the flavor was good. The service was decent and everyone in my party seemed to enjoy their food. I would come back and eat here again.

Great place to have lunch with friends. Waiters and staff was attentive and courteous. One of my friends forgot an item there and they held it until we came back to pick it up. The food is great and the portions are big to fill anybody. The parking is a bit tricky with how busy the place gets, especially in Montrose. Didn't have an issue with the location and there are lunch specials. Highly recommend it.

So different than the American Chinese food that offends cuisine in general. Quality, flavors, price, service, value can't be beat at Pepper Twins. We enjoy the vegetables the most, Then we go for the fried chicken, cumin beef, fried fish/shrimp.

Its 230 am on a Thursday morning and I'm writing this review because the food made me sick. My wife and I ordered golden egg sweet corn, lamb with cumin. & super cubic (I think that was the beef dish). 1. Let me 1st say we love ALL asian food and I've really been wanting to try this place. 2. The staff were nice. Not over the top nice or anything, but no qualms with our waitress. 3. If I were judging on presentation, I would probably give it a 5 star review. The food looked just as delicious as the pictures on yelp. The restaurant itself was nice as well. And here are my issues 4. White rice - needs salt, even just a little. This had none. There was no amount of soy that was going to revive that rice. 5. The beef didn't necessarily taste bad, but not necessarily good either. The texture was so offputting. It was spongy and soft and I dont mean soft as in tender - I mean soft as in what the hell did you do to screw up this meat. It was inedible. A poor cow had to die for that (It was supposed to be cow anyway) moo. 6. Cumin lamb - maybe the waitress was trying to steer us away from this when she said it was "good - if you like cumin". Overpowering flavor of cumin! There is a tipping point from just enough vs too much. And again, the texture spongy & soft. Poor lamb bah bah 7 the corn- I don't have anything negative to say. The other 2 dishes turned us off so bad, we only ate about half. We only ate about 1/4 of the other dishes. 8. But hey, the free chips are good I suggested that maybe we should order a different dish. Fortunately we decided against that. All that and it ended up being a ~$65 meal for 2 people with tip (water to drink). I wouldn't mind that - if it was good, but this just wasn't. Texture and rice fundamentals will keep me from going there again. Really disappointed...and sick. Too many good restaurants in Houston to eat bad food.

So after our "adventure" at Cooking Girl a few weeks ago, my friends and I decided to try their new upscale restaurant called Pepper Twins, located on 1915 West Gray Street. The inside of this "country-style organic" restaurant is beautiful! The cuisine is from Chengdu (southwestern China's) Sichuan province style, which means lots and lots of flavor and spice!!! We asked the waiter for some recommendations, and chose what we thought were the best dishes. For our appetizer we chose the mountain city noodle (similar to dandan noodle), then we shared the miracle blue egg soup (thousand year old egg), soft square bacon with Berkshire Pork Belly, Pepper Twins fish slides soup, and Sweet and Sour eggplant with Berkshire Pork. In case you didn't know, Berkshire Pork is a premium, high quality pork and is naturally produced without nitrates or chemicals. All the dishes are high quality! My favorite was the soft square bacon which absolutely melts in your mouth!! Don't forget they are closed Mondays!! And also 10% off if paying in cash! $

The food is pretty expensive, although you do get a lot of meat for your money; however I have tried the Kung Pao Chicken and the Green Pepper Beef. The Kung Pao was OK, but kind of bland. The Green Pepper Beef (pepper steak) was so bad I could only eat a little bit of it. No flavor at all and the meat was kind of tough. I would NOT recommend this restaurant.

The best, most original organic Chinese food ever. The rice was the best I've ever had. Every dish was unique, tasty and superb. We all thought it was the best ever. Now to have something like this in Austin! I will go on every trip to Houston.

I am happy owner Yunan Yang decided to use a traditional Sichuan cooking approach. The Sichuan pepper is cooked right on the vine. Props to the chef. We had pepper twins beef and Mongolian beef. The flavors are deep, complex, delicious and the kick from the pepper is insane. If you don't like spicy, grow a pair and just try it. The spice hits every part of your senses. If your sinuses are clogged, I promise Pepper Twins will cure it. Sichuan style is a little oily but Pepper Twins is the most authentic I've had in the US.

Some of the best Chinese food I have ever had, shared several dishes with friends. They were all perfect but the pork shank dish was out of this world. Will be back....

The Mr. And Mrs. Smith is to die for...a must get! Food was amazing and service was great. I highly recommend!

Sauteed vegetables taste and appeared steamed the chicken was of a poor quality. The use of thigh meat with sauteed vegetables is a no-go for me. I just do not like gummy rice

What a find. There's not much atmosphere, but oh the authentic Asian food. Chinese, some Korean, and a few other wonderful tastes. If they offer the Peking duck special, get it, but plan to share. The only slight negative is their use of all disposable plates, bowls, and flatware. The seriously old plumbing makes dishwasher a challenge. They use very sturdy bowls and plates. The plastic spoons are very small for soup, so I drank it (that good.) Nearly downtown on Fairview, give it a try, you won't be sorry. We'll be back, even though we'll be driving in in from Lake Livingston.

Knocked out by the rich flavors and steaming fresh ingredients. Mountains of quality food - don't let the price scare you, one dish is two meals big. Berkshire Pork Silk to die for.

First time at the newly opened Katy restaurant. Wonderful authentic Szechuan food very reminiscent of when I visited the area. Loved the twice cooked pork belly and the Diving Fish was succulent and very fresh. Will definitely go back to this gem.

Great food, numerous selections! The service is really amazing! The servers put a lot of smiles in their faces, very accommodating! A lot of my friends brought their family there and now they keep going back! Salute to the owners, i am sooo happy to see how your business grow massively with all your efforts to provide good food and services to all your clients!

Horribly loud and the waitress got the order wrong. The food is good but, the ambiance is terrible. (Maybe if you bring earplugs and clearly write-out the order it would work for you.)

We arrived and put our name down to wait for our table and a few minutes after we got there 2 more groups came in. We were seated and then ignored. The two tables that arrived after us were then seated, had drinks, and their orders taken before us. We had to flag down a waiter and then he then told us to wait. I can only assume that it's because the tables after us were white and we're Hispanic. Needless to say, we left and won't be back.

Great food and super friendly service. Brought my family from out of town and it was a huge hit. Will definitely come back!
