After years in the Restaurant business, it is nice to find a place where not everything is bought from sysco. It's all about old school, old traditional food tasting where the ingredients and care is more important.
Now John Hernandez the Co-owner, That's another story.
Very nice intimate space with friendly waitstaff and fast service, not to mention the perfect ambiance. I will visit again. The food was great...especially the beans!
Three words to describe this place… Delicious, Authentic, and Family-owned. I was craving some barbacoa and menudo for breakfast the way I used to have when growing up, and this place absolutely delivered on that! The restaurant has been ran for 18 years by a retired teacher and firefighter… the kind of folks that make you feel you’re part of the family right away. Looking forward to coming back to try more of their menu!
Awesome spot for breakfast! We got the migas with chorizo and chilaquiles. Delicious authentic Mexican food, spicy salsa, and the crispness tortilla chips I've ever had.
I love these coffee cups and the decor is so much fun! 100% coming back to eat here!
Authentic Mexican food. Great service. Since I came by myself, I had the honor of sharing a table with the owner, Juan Hernandez. He was very friendly and we had a really nice visit while I enjoyed the amazing food. I will definitely be returning to sample the menu further.
Food: Chilequiles were perfect. Tortillas made from scratch. The menudo was excellent.
Service: My coffee and water were never empty, and I was constantly served by everyone working. Phenomenal service. And so friendly!
Atmosphere: relaxed old school mexican restaurant. Feels like my childhood.
First time visiting Doña Maria’s from
Las Vegas .. loved the decor of the restaurant , staff gave us exceptional service and food was delightful perfectly flavored
We order menudo best ever and those fresh made tortillas !
Thanking the owner for her blessings.
Fantastic, authentic Mexican breakfast. Tacos Gordos are huge and the Chilaquiles were perfect after a late night of drinking. The tortillas are made with love and is the best part! Friendly service that frequently checked up on us. Unfortunately as Rangers/Cowboys fans, we could not stand the decor though. 😉😂
Best place in Houston for San Antonio tejano food. Barbacoa plate is the best in town, hands down. Homemade refried beans, crispy papitas, and deliciosa barbacoa! Homemade flour tortillas too! Same for the always reliable huevos rancheros plate.
Delicious and authentic Mexican food served by kind, welcoming people. The interior brings me back to my family visits to Mexico, very charming and homey decor. We ordered takeout at the front and it took a little bit, but it was worth it because the food was delicious! We ordered cheese enchiladas and caldo de res (beef stew). Both were delicious, especially the soup - perfect for a cold winter's day. Give this place a try if you are looking for authentic Mexican food and want a change of pace from the typical Tex Mex.
Great food and very helpful servers. The puffy tacos are worth stopping in for.
This Houston institution slipped by me. I’d never been. I knew that it was historically significant to the max. On previous attempts, it was always too crowded. “Next time”, I would say. But recently, having seen a photo of their puffy taco, I knew that it was a “must”.
Damn, that puffy taco plate was good. The rice and beans that accompanied it were great. As were the tacos. Crunchy. Not those softer, chewier, thick masa ones that SA is known for. A tad thicker than the ones at the (now closed) beloved Fiesta Loma Linda.
And, I saw that caldo de menudo is a daily feature. Not just on weekends.
This is a breakfast and lunch place. It closes at 2:00 pm.
Very cozy and friendly family owned restaurant! I really liked it here. Decent prices and awesome workers. The only thing was the Carne molida it wasn't good but everything else was. Great tacos and enchiladas
