Review Kuen Noodle House - Houston

Emy Aninzo-Wong
Ordered soup (brisket, spicy beef, and seafood) through Chowbus. I also ordered 3 different noodles (traditional, shaved, and thin) to try. The noodles tasted fresh and I like the thin noodles the best. The brisket broth was a bit salty and it came with bok choy. The other soups were better. I’ll definitely try their other dishes next time.

Kuen Noodle House did not disappoint! The spicy beef shank noodles was nothing short of amazing! The green onion potatoe pancake was so delicious. We also tried the beef roll, and it was perfect, especially dipped in the spicy beef soup! Service was slow at first, but you realize it’s because they put all their people making the best food! This place is very authentic and so good! I can’t wait to go back!

Wow, what an absolutely amazing and authentic restaurant! All of the food was absolutely amazing, the best that one can find in America. The knife shaved noodles that they are famous for is one of the most unique and rare and most amazing noodles out there, it’s very hard to find because it takes a lot of skill and knowledge and many years of training to perfect. The noodles I got here are some of the best I have every had. I specifically want to bring attention to how perfectly cooked and amazingly tender the meat in the noodles were. They literally just melt in your mouth, definitely best I have ever had, and I’ve tried a lot of noodles out there. The broth was phenomenal, perfectly flavored in a way that it seems art, individually crafted to perfection. My mouth is watering just reflecting and thinking about it. We ordered numerous other dishes too and every one of them were absolutely delicious and gorgeous, I can’t wait to come back. The service was so great! They were all so happy and genuine, you can really tell that the staff are passionate about the quality of their food and the quality of their restaurant, and that reflects in how amazing the food is. You can really taste the passion and love in their food, and the thousands of years of culture and stories behind each dish. Hands down one of the BEST restaurant and cultural experiences I have had, and I will definitely be returning! Highly recommend anyone and everyone to try!

Everything was amazing. The food was so hot and tasty. I love spicy, and every bite was so flavorful and consistently spicy, I couldn’t stop eating! The beef and veggies were incredible, tender and juicy, what a combo! So beyond impressive. It was my first time trying knife-shaved/knife-cut noodles and I will be back for more! The texture of the noodles is so fascinating and unique. The food was so authentic and the service was great! The staff and owners are so happy, their energy really radiates and brings more happiness around the restaurant. Really creates a very home-y vibe. Another super cool thing is that you can actually watch them make the noodles fresh and by hand through the window, which is absolute astonishing due to the amount of skill and focus that goes into creating it. Great experience!

I have to give 5 star because their pirate liver is very good. Liver and kidney is very easy to fail in chinese cooking. If the chef overcooked it will be very rough. But theirs is very tender( bigger pieces only, smaller piece is still little bit rough)

If you want REAL Chinese food in a real Chinese atmosphere, this is the place to check out. I've been to China five times now and I can say for certain it's authentic! My wife (who happens to be from China) and I visited there yesterday for a second time and we were not disappointed. The noodle chef is fun to watch as he hand-makes noodles behind a glass window. Food was served fast and hot, and the waiters were always helpful. Prices are just right too.

Really good noodle shop! Here you can get hand pulled noodles made fresh. My siblings and I chose a few different plates but enjoyed everything. I got the spicy beef noodle soup which I thought had the right amount of spice and tenderness in beef. There was only one server but she was friendly and smiled (a rarity in Chinatown). The Thai tea was just ok in my opinion. Clean bathroom and clean restaurant. I would come back here if the craving called!

First time here. I got their Spicy Beef soup with traditional noodle. It was good, spicy, but a bit salty for my taste. Great quantity for the price. Also ordered lamb skewer, tender, just wish they lighten up on the seasonings. Other than that it was a good experience. Overall 2 bowls of noodle soup and 2 lamb skewers all for $23. Great value. 👍

The food was good, handmade noodles. Pretty authentic. Only thing we didn't like was the light in the restaurant, so dark that we felt weird.

Thoroughly enjoyed this place. The noodles and broth were the best. I had beef with tendon and it was fantastic. Great flavors. I don't remember my appetizer, rice noodle with sesame oil?? Like jello flavored with sesame. Really delicious. Definitely recommended. Prices were around $10 for a good portion. I think mine was $8. As a bonus they have a big window to watch them make the noodles by hand. Staff was pleasant and had no issues explaining the dishes.

Comfort food that hits the spot. Good value. Very clean. Fast service. We got the soy sauce stir fried noodles with beef and the tomato egg noodle. The beef was insanely tender and melts in your mouth and the tomato egg noodle was deliciously (slightly) sweet and savory. We gulped everything down so we don't have any photos! It seems they changed the menu recently to not include snacks or choice of noodle thickness. Both of ours came with "traditional" thickness which were perfect and bouncy! The tea set was really nice too.

So my order got messed up a lil, but tbh it was complicated (I tried to mix and match some things) and they knocked everything else out the park, so they are def worthy of 5 stars!!! The woman was patient with me trying to explain what I wanted and very hospitable when I arrived to pick up. Plus, everything tastes AMAAAAZING!!! I was looking for different Asian food than I'm used to, and I definitely found it. I'll be back for sure (I saw so many other things I wanted to try). Pictured: hot and sour cabbage, pork and shrimp wonton soup (wontons served on the side for takeout), my special Xinjiang style stir fried ramen, and Thai milk tea.

--- NK Score = 7.0/10 --- 8/10 = Furniture/Ambience 7/10 = Food Quality 7/10 = Service 7/10 = Prices (Other Ratings Hidden) _____________________________________________ =( BASIC INFO )= - Medium Sized Restaurant - Spacious, Not Crowded - Decent Foods ( $7.00 - $9.00 ) - Handcrafted Noodles, Soups - Somewhat Inexpensive, Casual - Accessible Parking _____________________________________________ = Atmosphere = Casual restaurant, offers a nice and quiet environment where you can relax and enjoy the food. The interior is spacious and has good lighting, also there's a window where you can spectate the Chefs handcrafting their noodles. _____________________________________________ = Food Quality = Eggplant Sauce Ramen ($7.99): 4/5 - A light, somewhat mild broth. The flavor is not very impressive, but still provides a nice, savory feel and texture. The eggplants were very nice and soft, super fun to nom down, while the pork was just average. The noodles were soft and chewy, but little noticeable difference from regular noodles. Spicy Stewed Beef Ramen ($7.99): 3/5 - Spicy broth with a touch of fresh herbs. Not very spectacular in any fashion as it just tasted somewhat spicy with not much else. The noodles were ok, but the dish lacked the "tasty" feature I prefer with the soup, maybe I was just unlucky. _____________________________________________ = Price / Service = Prices are pretty average, not a bad price for a filling bowl of soup and noodles. Service seems nice, occasional water refills and checkups on how the table was doing. _____________________________________________ Miscellaneous (Other): - Recommend Eggplant Ramen - Robot Chef Signed NK (July 2017) Images below by Jason Lx (NK)

All of the noodles are made fresh with a window into the kitchen so that you can watch the process. A chef robot makes the knife cut noodles. Noodle textures and broth/sauce flavors are my favorite in Houston and the other dishes are also very tasty. The servers are very friendly and there's a rewards program for repeat customers.

The freshly made noodles are very good. They have other dish that are very good.
noway nope
The options are endless. The staff is super friendly. I've never seen a non-asian customer in there in the 5 times I've been, so some people might say that means the place is legit :) More importantly everything I've tried is delicious! You can see the guy in the back making the noodles so you know they're fresh. I'd say the least best dish I've had was this Japanese ramen which was just slightly flavorless. 4.89 stars.

If you are looking for a authentic tasting noodle house this is your place. The chef freshly makes the dough everyday and also doesn't pull out the noodles till you order. Many different noodles styles and thicknesses to choose from. My favorite for the Niu Ro Mien is medium width and medium thickness. For appetizer the clear noodle with hot chili oil are so addicting, more so the sauce. Caution extremely slippery with chopsticks lol I had a extremely hard time picking them up. Spoon and chopstick combo is the way to go. Now back to the Niu Ro Mien aka beef noodle soup. Broth was extremely rich with herbs and you can taste all the beef remnants from the hours of stewing the soup. The best part of course is the chunk of beef. Super tender and juicy! Packed with tons of flavor!
