The sushi is delicious! I had the Houston Roll wrapped in soy paper instead of seaweed and it was amazing as well as fully stuffed with the freshest salmon and tuna. My fiance had the beef teriyaki and it was served with miso soup, fried rice, tempura veggies, a sizzling steak on top a bed of sautéed onions. The teriyaki sauce was served on the side, a nice touch. I highly recommend Kaneyama for sushi or teriyaki.

Best miso soup I have ever had.
Ordered the sushi bento. Tasty. The tuna and salmon tasted fresh.
The salad dressing was meh, but that may be because I wasn't expecting the ginger and the lettuce was nearly dropping wet.
I liked the tempura veggies as well. Many restaurants could learn to bread foods with such the light touch.
I'll be back, for sure.

We’d like to reply the comment from Samamtha Morrison. This lady’s mother came with our gift certificate which sold 2 years before, we’ve already change the owner on 7/2017, we are willing to help her to get in touch with last owner who sold this certificate . After we told her that we couldn’t accept this certificate, and all of the gift card customers buy from our restaurant, we have record ,but we could found the record that this lady provide to us, she just left without pay for what she ate, and post some false information online, these was no way our employee force this lady stay, we believe in god,please don’t post unreal information online,this is unacceptable. Anyway we are sincerely sorry about all the inconvenience, god bless you.

The place is always clean and nice. I have been to this place several times over the years and it is fairly consistent in all aspects. You never have to wait long for a table. The service is good. The food never disappoints! I love the bento box as well as the sushi variety! I love that there are no children running around or people being loud.

Missed the happy hour by a few minutes but my experience was still excellent. I happened on this restaurant by mistake (being followed by a man) but now it's one of my favorite go to spots! The seven spice calamari is excellent, the cold sake gives you just the right amount of buzz, and the rolls are yummyyyyyyy. There are a LOT of things here I'd still like to try but I'm sure it wont change this review. The employees are courteous, attentive, professional (and protective!) and the décor is comfortable and inviting. Love this restaurant!

Delicious food and lovely atmosphere. Service was friendly and efficient. We had an appetizer, two rolls and dessert for less than $40 before tip. Very happy with my experience. If I was in town longer, this would be my favorite spot.

This was our go to restaurant growing up (sunce 1997)! Just had lunch there and the food is still delicious. We met the owner and chat for a bit. Although this restaurant has changed owners through the years, they've maintained the quality and taste! It is a bit pricey but I don't know any Japanese restaurant that's not. The "Snowman" sushi is my favorite! My 10 month old and three year old ate well, too! This will definitely be our go to restaurant again!

First time I went there. Great experience. People use to think that simple food has to be poor food. It is far away from the truth.
Tempura is dry, crunchy, tasteful and I couldn't detect a "smidget" of oil. How did they do this?
The Bento Box I ordered came very well organized. Small but with enough food for one person to get full.
Sashimis and sushis with very nice cut with freshness and flavor.
The service, decoration, music and cleaness, also were very good.

I come here a few times a month--100% my favorite Japanese restaurant in Houston and I've been to most of them. They have some traditional Japanese dishes on their menu (onigiri, udon) that are hard to find anywhere else... and they do a great job making them. :) Definitely worth trying!

My favorite place for Japanese lunch. Great sushi. And abdolutely perfect shrimp tempura that shatters in your mouth. The best I have ever had. Friendly staff and prompt service in a nicely comfy dining room. I am a regular here and have never been disappointed.

I have been enjoying this resteraunt since it's opening back in the 90s.
Whether you are wanting an intimate dinner with a date, a lunch with the girls or a private party, this is a perfect place.
I have spent at least 10 birthdays there and so has my son. The food is excellent, the service superior, the music and artwork are authentic and it all adds up to a perfect meal.

After 12 years of going to kaneyama we will never be back. The new owner lost us as customer tonight because there where only 3 wait staff for a packed restaurant. We paid for what we did get (Only food for our kids and a glass of wine)... my husband talked to the owner and got no apology about the service... the food has change and so has the service!!! Shameful

This is one of my favorite sushi restaurants, and I have been eating here since 2004. The waitstaff is courteous, and they are generally willing to do everything possible to make sure your meal is perfect. The sushi is always good, and very fresh, and they have a wonderful soy sauce, that isn't your average just out of the bottle soy sauce.
Also try the onigiri - so good, not common in restaurants, and it reminded me of the time I spent in Japan.
The staff and kitchen are very knowledgeable and work well around allergies and food restrictions.

Having been maybe 6-7 times in the past 4 months, I would say the nigiri and rolls we have had are always fresh, delicious, generously portioned, and prettily plated.
We ask for Kendo, whose service is very good. When Kendo isn’t there, the service is rather absent minded.
The prices seem fair, and HH gets you 15% off everything (except sashimi.)
