Review Himalaya Restaurant & Catering - Houston

I was an out of town visitor and tried this place due to the acclaim it has received from various sources, some of them being the finest in the culinary world. In reading some of the other reviews here, I feel that either there is a huge disconnect with what I experienced, which was superb food, or that there is a concerted lobby from the competition to undermine the renown this restaurant rightfully deserves. Not withstanding the austere and simple but comfortable surroundings, the signature dishes I tried were every bit as appetizing and delicious and then some. The Steak Tikka, the Chicken Hara Masala, the Mutton Biryani and the Garlic Naan were very flavorful, aromatic and a gastronomic delight. But more importantly the preparation and the proprietary recipes that creates these dishes is evident in every morsel. The steak was extremely tender, the chicken amazingly delectable and the biryani just one of the best. I thoroughly enjoyed the food and will definitely return. There is a reason this place has received such great recognition, and that is because the food is prepared with personal care and is unique and savory in every way. It would be no surprise if you tried this place and walked away with a very satisfied experience, just like so many others have. The restaurant is well worth the fame and accolades it has received.

First time here. Will say food is good, but takes a while to cook. Also the owner holds the more aggressive personality at times, but can be cheerful too. (Less likely as very busy) Famous people have visited and if things you want they ate, its marked on menu. Will say service was slow. Been to other fresh cooking locations but never this slow. Regardless the food was indeed tasty, though speed was slower then I expected.

Amazing Indo- Pak food. The level of spice is medium. Any pallet can handle it. The balance of flavors is amazing. Very attentive staff, they noticed my ice tea cup almost empty and refilled it asap. The owner is very knowledgeable and will recommend you food as per your pallet. He works on the floor along with his staff catering to his customers needs, setting an excellent example of leadership and hospitality. Table 31, Happy Bellies.

Tried their favour mutton biryani and Beef Haleem Biryani was 4/5, and it was not spicy. Very low mild spice level. I was expecting more spicy, but overall taste was good. We LOVED the Haleem, though. It was perfectly cooked! Can go again only for it ! We also liked the garlic naan. The only thing is they need to have more space between the tables. It's very congested

I had dinner here with a couple of friends. It was my first time to try Indian food and I really enjoyed it. We had several dishes and I loved all of them!! I'm looking forward to visiting again soon and trying some more items from the menu.

I don't know what people are referring to with regards to service. The owner was incredibly sweet and helpful with selecting items we had questions about. He did press us on picking a coke or Pepsi product until I said that I do not drink sugar. He's very much like a doting grandmother that wants you to eat your fill but not create any waste. I can live with that. Lol The meal was phenomenal! We loved the goat biryani and the Bhuna Goat Gosh curry. Great pairing. The garlic naan was fresh as could be and had the perfect ratio of soft, crisp, and buttered crust. When we dipped it into the fresh curry sauce it soaked in the flavors for a full robust taste. The goat meat was so tender it was falling off the bone. My next visit will comprise of trying the fried chicken I've heard so much about!

We were attracted by the name of the restaurant. This is definitely a family restaurant. The prices are very reasonable and the portions are enormous. To be honest, having very recently visited India, I suppose that I expected more in terms of flavors. The tandoori chicken was visually pleasing but seemed to lack a certain flavor. The mutton biryani was a little too wet. The naans also lacked something, and the raita was disappointing. The mango Lassi was excellent. The service is very friendly and I wanted to give this restaurant a better rating on the food

We discovered this place off of the TV show with Andrew Zimmern. I’m so glad I took notes. We visited this place for lunch, I got the lunch combo, which had a couple of types of curry, some rice and a couple of other side dishes. The Currys were delicious. My favorite was the red lamb curry. On Andrew Zimmern he featured the fried chicken. Who would think to get fried chicken at an Indian restaurant, but let me tell you this is some of the best fried chicken you’ll ever get. They cut up a whole chicken, and then they do their magic. It comes out, hot and crisp and seasoned with their special seasoning. I don’t know when I’ve had better. The servers were very attentive and the atmosphere was nice. I don’t know when I’ve had better overall Indian food anywhere. Next time we are back through Houston we look forward to coming back again.

Was recommended by our cousin. We are so happy that we when to eat here. The food was awesome. We had the garlic naan, beef, and fried chicken. Wow we hit with such flavor that we don’t normally get and it was great. Love Houston that we can get such a verity of food from all over. Would recommend and will be going back to this place.

Okay I am going to give very fair comments. Service: 3/5 Speed: 2/5 Food: 5/5 Yeah if you are looking for authentic Indian food definitely visit here, the owner won a lot of awards as you could see on the wall. But there are more pick-up than dine in orders- I think that might be why they deliver food slow. The food, however, is great!

Great food. The owner suggested trying the lunch special. We got chicken curry, lamb curry, lentils, lamb patty on naan. It was delicious!

I've been eating here off and on for many years. It's always served consistently fresh and delicious dishes. As a lover of lamb its hard to resist the lamb shank. It literally melts off the bone and is absent of the often strong gamey flavor. The garlic Naan is a must try! It will leave you wanting more. The butter chicken is always a favorite also. The owners are friendly and welcoming, as are all of the servers. I have always felt this is a Houston gem when it comes to Indian restaurants. It might not be fancy or located in a prime area, but so worth experiencing the delicious flavors the menu offers. The awards and media highlights that decorate the walls have been well earned and deserved!

Indo-Pak type non veg restaurant with limited seating that too very close. You can enjoy Chicken items, We had a BBQ/Grill platter which was very tender, correctly cooked and melts in mouth. I found Mutton Biryani was not up to my expectations. Bit dry, less spicy and with very less biriyani flavour. Garlic nan was top class , so soft and tasty. Paneer Paratha-dilla with masala souce was delicious. In my opinion this restaurant focuses more on American customers, so the food items are less spicy.

The best tasting Indian Pakistani food in Houston. Food is delicious. Himalya Restaurant in Houston is an absolute gem! From the moment I stepped in, I was greeted with warm hospitality and an inviting ambiance. The menu boasts a delightful array of Himalayan and Indian dishes, each prepared with meticulous attention to flavors and presentation. I had the pleasure of trying their signature dishes, and they were a burst of exquisite flavors in every bite. The Nihari, Chicken Green curry, the lamb Karahi, the daal, everything was rich, and had the perfect balance of spices (not the usual Shaan masala blended paste). The Naan bread was soft and pillowy, making it the ideal accompaniment to the dishes. The service was impeccable, and the staff was courteous and responsive. Whether you're a seasoned fan of Indo-Pak cuisine or a true FOODIE eager to explore new flavors, Himalya Restaurant is a must-visit destination in Houston. I can't wait to return and indulge in more of their culinary delights!

Been taken to that place by our close relative. We ignored the initial rude comments by the owner as he had the busy night, but then Spanish cleaner started bringing utensils without washing hands after cleaning the room nor was he wearing any gloves. When we objected to this, owner made racist remarks and refused to serve food. Going over this page I realised that this is not the first time this happened. This is the routine over there. Won’t recommend it to any Desi person

The only thing preventing me from giving 5 stars is the service. The food was outstanding but the owner basically bullied my party into ordering what he thought we should have (or more than likely what was already cooked) instead of what we really wanted. They give you A LOT of food which is a plus and everything I had was delicious. Food came out fast as well. If the owner and staff take a little more care in how they treat customers this place would be perfect. Definitely worth a visit regardless.

On a short trip to Houston.. on my bday.. stopped by this restaurant on a friends suggestion N simply loved it. Though it was super crowded , a table was easy to locate and the food was just yumm! With endless varieties of vegetarian and non vegetarian option, gluten free and vegan options.. Himalaya is one place to stop for all culinary needs :)

We've always had great food and service! Finally had the HFC tonight and it's one of the best foods we've ever eaten. More of our favorites: steak tikka, vegetable samosas, dal fry, chicken achaari, and hara masala. So many more we can't wait to try! We're quite happy to drive an hour for such great food.

I must tell you that I have found my new favorite place for Butter Chicken. The Butter Nan was delicious; so light and flavorful. The service was fantastic also and our waiter was so helpful. Thank you for an excellent dining experience. We will be back soon!! Everyone, you have to try this place. Delicious!!!!

Food was excellent. I will be visiting again. I read the reviews and people were upset about the service. The waiter and food runner were very efficient and didn't fawn over my table. I don't like it when the waiter tries to be my best friend. I want it to be short and efficient, I am here to eat and the food was AMAZING! 5 stars for sure!

Excellent food and service! We had mutton biryani, butter naan, garlic naan, aloo tikki, Haleem and a shrimp green curry. Everything was cooked to perfection.

The owner is rude It seems like he don't care Now I don't care how good the food is FYI biryani pot serves better biryani You shouldn't have an attitude He acts like he's paying for my food Won't recommend it at all There's a video where a guy shows that they put cotton or something but not meat in their Haleem

The only place I will go! Haven't had a bad dish yet. The service is great. My tea never gets below half full!

Best Indo-Paki food I have ever had. And the fusion they do on American classics are to die for..

The cover photo that says "Put Happiness in Your Mouth" is perfect, because I couldn't stop smiling while eating dinner. I'm still smiling. This is the best Indian/Pakistani food I have ever eaten, and that's saying a lot. Chef Kaiser is brilliant. No complaints about the service, they get busy, as good restaurants do, but everyone was kind and polite and we were too. Maybe people are spoiled and fussy because it's Houston, but our service was great! We will be back many times, that dinner was wonderful! Try the chicken Korma and the steak tikka, and mango tres leches for dessert!

Good food but not great service. Enjoyed the food although it was a bit pricey. They only have one waiter and are always packed.

The owner and staff are HORRIBLE w/ customer service. The food looked good but I couldn’t get that sour taste out of my mouth from the way they treated people there. It just ruined it; and I really wanted to enjoy it! Will never go there again. The owner is aware of how people feel, he just doesn’t care. He's just out to make a quick buck. He’s a lousy human being and should be audited for the sneaky dealings going on there. So disappointed.

Horrible service... don't bother eating here. The owner needs to go to anger management classes. Learn how to treat your paying customers with your overpriced menu items.
