Review Antidote - Houston

Thomas Le
Great coffee shop for smaller occasions like dates, studying, working, or reading! Coffee quality is top notch with well- balanced lattes. Cajeta latte hot or iced is a top recommendation. Just be mindful that it is smaller, so parking is limited, and seating is more intimate!

Good place to rest with a coffee or spend some time with your laptop doing your things. There is daily roast speciality coffes menu, interesting. If there is not extremely hot outside, the outdoors terrace is nice.

Very consistent and fast coffee! I have been here too many times to count, and I always enjoy my time and experiences here. Staff is beyond friendly and helpful; and the atmosphere is so positive. I wish to share all the love and joy that Antidote has to offer with everyone! :-) Great flavor selections with reasonably priced, quality coffee. I recommend an iced antidote! Pairs well with any occasion.

Had a great experience here. This cosy little coffee shop in the Heights was a great find as I just looked up "coffee shops near me" and picked this place out of a bunch. The parking situation was easy and they have some nice seating outside too. I ended up taking up a corner 🪑 next to this little blue couch 🛋️ which had enough outlets for 5 plugs. Ordered a warm chai latte and was told by the barista that they use locally sourced whole milk of better quality. The latte was smoothe and not overbearingly sweet. Overall a great first experience and I'll definitely be back here :)

Pretty cool hippie place. Typical of the heights. The coffee was good. The atmosphere is welcoming, and it seems like a good place to work out of or come study with your laptop. Sufficient free parking up front.

Funky Vibe combining super friendly people and great coffee. I stop here at least twice a week to have a coffee and fire up my iPad or while walking the dog or riding my bike on the numerous trails in the area.

Vibe- another cozy coffee shop in the greater heights area! There’s so many colorful little patio tables outside and a good amount of seating inside as well. This is the sister coffee shop to Black Hole Coffee House in Montrose. Customer service- Amazing! The barista that helped me was kind. Food/drinks- I got a hot pumpkin spice latte with oatmilk and it’s one of the best I’ve had at any coffee shop!! Parking- There’s about 15 or so parking spots in the lot and some parking on the street.

Tried their specialty coffee, which is cajeta latte. The flavor is really good. Enjoyed it and would get it again. Majority of their baked goods come from their sister store, Black hole coffee. They sell other cold beverages like kombucha, smoothies, etc. There is seating outdoors and some have umbrellas. It does get cold inside. They provide free water. There's also a toaster and microwave. The wifi speed is decent. It does buffer a little bit if streaming (e.g. Spotify) but not if you're just browsing the Web. If you need wifi for more than an hour, you'll need to buy another item I think. The wifi expires after 1 hour, which sucks. Parking in front is limited like other reviewers mentioned.

DEFINITELY A "MUST GO" IF YOU ARE IN HOUSTON! This review is based on my experience and personal opinion: I am a regular of the Antidote Café, very nice place indeed. I decided to wait for the Covid-19 pandemic to sort of go away to write a review about them, so that I would be able to be fair and more accurate. Like I said we are regulars of this small but lovely café situated in the Houston heights district, when I'm in town we go at least twice a week. We absolutely LOVE their Latte and their Chai Latte.... This is NO fancy place by no means.... It is a very simple place, with few pieces of furniture and the furniture are sort of worn/old furniture. It is randomly furnished, no specific style but I find this place sort of whimsical and very relaxing. Very friendly, Very Comfy, Very Relaxing, Very.... forget about your problems for a few.... If you look at the pictures you can see they have two main sitting areas, one is inside and one is outside. the sitting area inside has two big comfy couches among other furniture and a long bench against the wall if you like that kind of seat. so whether you are alone or with friends you can still find your place here. Outside they have quite a few small tables where you two people can have a remarkable breakfast. so, whether you come in the morning, afternoon or evening, you can select the best seat for your needs. When it's chilly or rainy, you can seat inside and disappear in those soft couches.... I love that. Sitting on a soft couch while holding a hot Chai Latte....mmmm.... paradise to me. They have a selection of Coffee based drinks, hot or iced, and If you do not drink Milk you can select Almond, Oatmeal, Soy or Coconut Milk (great substitutes). Also they have a selection of pastries/deserts available and some seriously delicious Oatmeal + raisins cookies (so Yummy). Now you can find more products available for sale, like Coffee beans, ground Coffee mix, and many other products. They have restrooms and they are always clean, which makes your Coffee break definitely more relaxing. The stuff consist of one Employee only and he/she is always super nice and super friendly. Me and my Wife love her/him. (Now that I think about it, we have been served by someone else too... but cant remember her face). The Café is located in the Heights district of Houston, very nice area and not far from the Café is Studemont Park, a very nice city park..... you can go to Antidote grab your favorite hot or iced Coffee based drink and go drink it at the Park..... mmmm... cherry on the cake!!!! For you to know, the same person owns a Café called "The Black Hole" that is locate close to Montrose, so downtown and that's a very relaxing place too. CONCLUSIONS: Go, relax and forget about your problems at least for the time it takes you to drink a medium Latte :D

This coffee shop has plenty of seats. I was surprised that they didn't have heavy whipping cream 😞 It's not a big deal. The barista at the register was very attentive.

Great study spot and bike parking is available. Spent many hours here studying and put stops when I'm riding through on my bike.

I've been to Antidote coffee twice in the past few months. I will definitely be going back! Antidote has a cozy, chill atmosphere that is perfect for getting some work done (which is what I did), meet with friends, play games on your computer, etc. The staff is friendly and helpful, the patrons are pleasant, and the coffee is perfect.

This is a super cozy place to study and enjoy being with yourself. It has nice seating and dozens of choices. i recommend their iced chai with oat milk paired with a vegan chocolate chip cookie! it's a great yet simple pairing for a calm evening.

I really enjoyed Antidote coffee! It is a pretty small shop, but has a lot of nice outdoor seating as well as couches indoors. They had a lot of options for coffee and a wide variety of flavors. I tried a honey rose latte and loved it! The cajeta flavor is also great and unique. They have a lot of different milk options as well. There is not much parking available in front of the shop, but I was able to find street parking a block or two away pretty easily.

Fairly priced, tasty coffee with many dairy free options. Minimal wait time and nice, courteous staff. Restrooms are always clean and is generally a nice relaxing place with tables and couches to work, study or meet with people.

I love it here! Small but spacious, only issue is parking on busier days 🥲 but I love the guys & gals working behind the register <3 baristas are super friendly and helpful! They always greet me with a smile and answer any questions I have! Usually find the time to catch up on a book or work and even spend my leisurely time here !

I've been going to Antidote since they opened . The coffee and service is always great ! Plus they have a cool event every year in December called Craftidote, its a great venue that has handmade items made by local artists .. it's a tradition to go and meet the artists and buy local .

I dropped by for their 9th anniversary celebration yesterday and ran into a group of new friends. I loved the selection of local Fat Cat Creamery treats and feel of the place. Parking was easy on the spacious side streets.

Antidote is my friendly neighborhood coffeehouse offering excellent brewed coffee, great lattes, and a delectable assortment of snacks.

Cajeta latte,the best coffe ever!

Great laid back, relaxing coffee house!

I would give zero stars if that were an option. Two weeks ago I was verbally assaulted by one of the baristas for asking her to change her gloves after she changed the trash. She told me she was sanitizing the gloves and I responded that was gross. As a healthcare worker, I can tell you this is not an acceptable practice. I returned to the store today to be told by the barista she did not feel comfortable serving me. I was going to the shop 2-4 times a week. In a time when supporting your local businesses is very important, be aware that at Antidote loyal customers are not appreciated and the baristas can yell profanities at you for asking them to practice good hand hygiene. Very disappointed at the lack of service response.

Eclectic hangout

I always enjoy coming here—the coffee is good, the staff are friendly, there’s plenty of seating and they offer free water along with your coffee. The nitro cold brew and cajeta latte are very good. Recently, I ordered a flat white and it was not at all what I was expecting—it was very different from how other places execute the drink. I will definitely return, but not for a flat white.

A coffee shop named Antidote....interesting. Cons: almost drove past it looking for it; small parking lot where you have to park in the neighborhoods next to it, which if you're from Atlanta makes you paranoid you'll get a ticket. Neutrals: It's small so it'll either deter a huge crowd or you can feel closed in when there is a lot of people but they make the space work.
Pros: has an outside area to enjoy the weather; 2 doorways: one for the shop and one for the sitting area; comfortable seating; and delicious coffee and foods.
Great for people watching (in the shop and neighborhood). I was there for over 4 hours and was happy.

I came here on a Sunday afternoon with my girlfriend on a recommendation from a friend. When we first arrived, we could not find any parking. There is a private lot for this strip mall, but it's quite small and only a few dedicated spots for Antidote. Your best bet would be to find street parking nearby and walk on over. When we finally got there, we noticed large umbrellas outdoor covering the outside seating area which is nice for getting the sun out of your face. Inside, it was very busy, and it looked like a comfortable place with a brick interior and couches. However, it wasn't very big, so I wouldn't recommend bringing a large group here. My friend did recommend to order the Cajeta Latte (caramel-flavored coffee), but I chose to try the Chai Tea Latte instead. My drink was extra hot, which I loved, and it had a great taste to it. My girlfriend ordered an iced mocha, which also was satisfying, although it didn't taste like a typical mocha you'd find at other coffee shops. It was good, but just caught me off guard. Overall, I really liked this place, and I would definitely come back (next time to try the Cajeta Latte).

What to order:
-Chai Tea Latte

Pros:
-Closes late (midnight everyday of the week)
-Free Wi-Fi
-Outdoor seating

Cons:
-No places to really park, quite busy

I was pleasantly surprised by the lack of hipsters here. Since it's located in the land of hipsters, I thought it would be infested by them.

The place is in a small strip center, and next to a convenience store. The parking lot is tiny, and it's difficult to find a spot. They have indoor and outdoor seating, which is uncomfortable and odd. The barista was friendly, and the coffee was just okay. The main thing that stuck out about this place is how quiet it was. When I sat down, I felt like I was in a library. I thought I was being too loud, so my friend and I sat outside.

This place has tons of open room for studying or visiting with friends. Also has cute umbrellas outside. Coffee is yummy (I prefer the iced) and also has juicy girl juices as another option, as well as Fat Cat's ice cream.

Sandwiches. People have already talked a lot about the coffee and its great - but check out the sandwiches wrapped in the white paper in the basket up front - grab one and have it for lunch later they are AMAZING!!!

Great coffee & open late. Stopped by here with the parents and loved the Cubano great tasting coffee and few pastry selections, like that it's open late.

Decent beverages, rude staff. Coffee and pastries/sandwiches are decent, but (notwithstanding two exceptions) the staff barely passes as courteous and today were downright rude with one guy behind the counter having the audacity to actually yell at me. And he didn't take kindly to being told to learn better customer service.

A call to speak to a manager or owner left me spinning in circles. No one wanted to be accountable or would step up to say they were in charge. In short, I don't recommend this place to anyone with a shard of self respect. I can't justify spending money in a place where one is poorly treated. Until I receive an apology from management and the promise of better treatment, I'll take my business elsewhere. I suggest anyone looking for a pleasant cup of coffee or bite to eat to do the same.

Patrick used to be really nice and would even sit with me at my table to chat; that was before I moved to a diff part of town, came in less over the past year. The last two times i've visited, he has been pretty hurtful and this time was enough for me. Since he no longer makes me feel welcomed at Antidote, I will certainly not bother him with my presence, now that i'm back in the heights. There are plenty of other places in the Heights.
- Pregnant girl who used to enjoy Antidote

Great atmosphere. I ordered a French press with my bean of choice. The only things I didn't like were that the beans are not roasted in house, music was enjoyable but too loud, and the folks working there did not smile at all while serving me. I'd go back though.
Chris R
Coffee was good, but the staff was very un-friendly. We felt like outsiders, and not welcome there. Not sure what kind of place that was.
Kat
Love this place. Antidote is simply a great little neighborhood coffeehouse... I've walked over early in the morning and driven up on my way south... I've stopped for a latte-to-go on my way to the country... Doesn't matter. I've never been disappointed. I love the lattes. My daughter loves the coffee. And the cheese scones are especially delicious. What could Antidote possibly do to improve on my experience? Not much.

The staff were helpful as it was our first time in going there. I enjoyed the side patio ouside. It was romantic with the lights above and private for my date and I.

Very nice, relaxed place with some wine at a fair price; and reminds me of my favourite coffee shop back in London

A Gettaway Spot. While most coffeehouses in Houston pump up the volume during the evenings and weekends for the larger crowds, Antidote maintains a sense of calm. This is the spot to go study or catch up on work when the other locations become too loud. It is also on the same street as Fitzgerald's, so should you crave live music, it is an easy walk. The iced coffee is delicious and refreshing as well as cheap. They have a great changing wine selection and a mini fridge with desserts and vegetarian snacks. To top it off, two of their staff are just too funny.

Great coffee. Very cheap

Too bad you have to love cigarette smoke to enjoy sitting outside on a pretty day, but there is free wi.-fi, onside, if that's your first priority.

Love It, Love It, Love It!. This place is amazing! The people are great, the atmosphere is warm, and I've never had anything that tasted less than fantastic. I'm in love with the goat's milk latte and the house goat cheese crostini. They also have meals and yogurt drinks and things in the cooler. Oh and the pastries! SO good! It's just a tasty, friendly place to grab a coffee, tea or beer.

Nice. Cute, nice, bohemian feel and good noshy things. Thanks to Paul for introducing me.

Good desserts. They are pretty dependable to have some good cake or cookie or brownie available when you are craving something sweet. Seating isn't the most comfortable, but the atmosphere is nice. They have lots of magazines and board games, to encourage you to hang out for as long as you want. Also, they have free wi-fi, so you see lots of people hanging out with their laptops. Cool little cafe.

The coffee gave me the much craved buzz. The staff was supercilious (if using the word is not supercilious ttself). They guilt tripped the nice lady ahead of me for ordering a cheese plate. If you don't want to serve something then don't but don't make a customer del bad. That's just not cool.
Jason
Coffee is good, outdoor seating is great, staff is very friendly. Great place to enjoy on your own or with friends. Open late (12am) and serve wine and beer, too. My favorite spot in the heights to relax. I enjoy the camera latte. This is also the cheapest coffee compared to it's competition (catalinas, inversion, coffee grounds, etc)
