Review Canary Cafe - Houston

They have the best breakfast sandwiches! I loved my sausage egg and cheese sando but the best part was the freshly baked bun! I also had a cookie butter pastry and paired it with a “big kids coffee” which is the coffee of the month, I believe. CAN YALL PLEASE KEEP THE CEREAL INFUSED COFFEE AS A SIGNATURE!? I have to say that was the best breakfast I’ve had in a coffee/ pastry shop! Best coffee! Best sandwich, best baked goods! They even have a small selection of amazing beers! And the people who work there really being the whole place together. I went recently for my friends clothing swap event and was blown away by this gem. I will be back today!

Went here for breakfast. Menu has a few baked goods and hot breakfast items. Self service concept with outdoor seating. Good spot for coffee and quick baked good.

This is a great spot. I showed up once for breakfast and had a breakfast burrito with homemade salsa, and I don't know if I'll ever be able to order anything else for breakfast, because I enjoyed it so much!! I've also tried their pizza, and their burger, and they were both delicious, and large enough to share. But onto the coffee . . . Their coffee program is excellent. If you go in the morning, or anytime before 5 PM, you can try their espresso drinks.Their baristas' attention to detail doesn't go unnoticed. Do I wish their machine was on past 5 pm? Yes. Thankfully the rest of their beverage menu is good too. If you are like me, and don't often make it before the espresso machine gets put up, Canary's cold brew is fantastic. They have other fancy cold brew, flavored drinks, but I haven't tried them. Their chai is also delicious.I like their blend because it is spicy and cardamom forward, which is exactly the way I like it. I don't know if this was always their plan, but having a bodega with local products and general staples was a great idea. I like all the coffee shops that have transitioned to this model during social distancing.. I like picking up the my coffee beans and chai concentrate for the week. I've really enjoyed using their Kenya beans for my at home pour-overs. I get their unsweetened chai for home. I like being able to sweeten it myself, but they also have a sweet version. Alsooo, the barista recommended I pick up the barista milk they carry in the bodega, and it didn't disappoint. They sell some local soaps, but I haven't tried them yet. I just went last night, and they got their TABC license- so now they also serve wine and beer, and also non-alcoholic beer, and hop tea. I'll probably indulge while social distancing, and hanging out in their patio. Next time I drop in, I'll force myself to try something new. Maybe their golden milk, or their abuelita toddy.

Fun little cafe and coffee shop with some small items from vendor and drinks and snacks. They have a small indoor area to sit socially distanced and a small outdoor back patio. I really liked the build out and creative flare. The pastries and coffee was good, I'll have to go back and try the food.

Hold on tight because this place knows good flavor! This week is their soft opening. Shhhhh. It's a secret. They won't have the full menu available until they have their grand opening but that's is okay because what they do have to offer is amazing! Staff: Friendly, professional, and on their coffee making game! You've literally got some of the best in Houston on staff here. Coffee: Incredible quality! The coffee comes from none other than Cadenza which is literally right next store and heavily involved in the making of Canary Cafe. Locally owned and roasted by some fantastic people. You HAVE to try the Abuelita Mocha, it's amazing. Today we also ordered a cortado and it's had a wonderful combination of subtle acidity and creamy texture. A favorite for sure. Covid: Yes wear a mask. Canary has some wonderful precautions set in place for the safety of it's employees and customers alike! Once Covid goes away, you can expect lively music and glass clinking. Seating: This will be a full restaurant with outdoor seating. Right now with the soft opening, seating is limited. I just got to-go. Food: I ordered the parfait. They had only been open an hour and were almost sold out. The chef is phenomenal! She has an eye for art and a palate for one too. Honestly the absolute best parfait I have ever had. There were so many complex notes and flavors and everything from consistency to mouth texture hit it for me. I got a parfait because everything else was out and expected nothing exciting but was completely surprised. I cannot wait to try more menu items! Style: The style of Canary is a bit of modern rustic mixed with chic bohemian. They can correct me if I'm wrong, not all of the decor is up. Pops of color and texture satisfy the designers need for character. Market: Canary will also serve as a marketplace! Items are limited for the soft opening but you can grab lots of goodies to take home. Overall, 20 out of 10.

Open space. Good drip coffee. Matcha latte pretty good. Amazing empanadas but we didn’t realize it’s not on the weekend brunch menu… so sad, but we were happy that they were open today. We had cheeseburgers today and they were well cooked, perfectly seasoned, perfect portion and juicy. This place has a locally owned college study vibe with music that can be a bit loud, but it’s all ages friendly. Two gigantic, clean, thoughtfully designed and titled bathrooms with changing tables for babies and an Amazon locker in the back. Have never been here when it was nice enough to go sit outside, but my teenaged kids love to come here to study and eat spicy empanadas :) there’s plenty of parking outside.

Great atmosphere, friendly staff, quality coffee and treats. I ordered a toasted coconut latte (yum!), house iced tea, chocolate “pop tart”, and cinnamon bun. All delicious and well made. Will be back and recommend to friends.

This cafe is less than a mile from my house, so I probably go too often... but it’s a lovely little spot. Everyone that works here is incredibly friendly and kind. They make their syrups, pastries, and food in-house, and everything is delicious. I have yet to be disappointed. I highly recommend the “abuelitas”, so good, and the vanilla tastes almost like butterscotch 🤤. I also enjoy that they have a little market to buy local goods (art, decor, candles, soap, milk, produce, canned items, seasonings). They have indoor and outdoor seating, and the outdoor patio is dog-friendly.

Super cute cafe. The lattes and espresso drinks are delicious and the atmosphere is great for catching up with friends or plugging in to get work done. The patio is dog friendly and the staff is smiling and helpful. They also offer local beer and tasty food!

Amazing! Went for a birthday lunch. Plenty of seating, large outdoor area. Everything we tried on the menu was delicious- I would say worth the price. The customer service was great and we had people check on us at least twice at our table. We had the chicken sándwich, iced mexican chocolate, cavalcade cubano, and rissotto balls. There is a large selection of coffee, tea, and a cute pop up shop feel gift area with candles, vegan products and beauty products. Will be returning!

Canary Cafe is exactly what you want in a cafe. The employees here actually love what they're doing, and they come up with cool coffees and care about customer feedback. While visiting Houston from Austin we came here every morning because of how addicted we were to the coffee. Not to mention the food is killer. How the hell does a cafe make such good pizza? How are their breakfast burritos the bomb? We actually thought about moving to Houston because how in love we were with this coffee shop. If you're in Houston, go here. Get everything, and anything. You won't regret it. ♥️♥️

We like to try local coffee shops and looked for one in the area and found this place. We liked our lattes and the cute latte art. The staff was nice and the place is spacious with indoor and outdoor seating. Glad we came here.

Cozy cafe with lots of seating indoors and outdoors. Private lot out front so parking is very easy. Plenty of breakfast food and drink options. The Mexican Mocha is one of their popular items so I’d recommend trying that if you’re a chocolate fan. Their patio is dog friendly too, just make sure to bring your pet around the left side of the building.

This was a cute spot I had no idea was there. My flat white was delicious and so lovely too! Definitely coming back for the awesome coffee.

Most horrible place ever. The server came to the table before dinner was over with our party with the checks before everyone was done because some asked about the price of the drinks. Next, the server came to the table and speaking on pur yable laughing saying we were too loud and there was nobody in the restaurant. They took my friends drink and she wasn't done and refused to bring her another one. I refuse to eat at this place again because customer service was horrible.

Absolutely the best Mexican I've eaten! The beef poblano fajitas with the cilantro sauce was delicious! And the beef steak with shrimp and scallops, to die for. I gotta mention the sopapillas.... best I've ever had. Not doughy, but light and crispy and just fantastic. Will definitely be back.

Amazing food... To say the least. The ribs fell off the bone so tender, fresh tortillas, shrimp was delicious and incredible chips and salsa. Service was excellent and beautiful place with a great patio.

The service was uncalled for we were not even ready to leave when the waiter was rushing our party out we had ordered more drinks and appetizers and we were giving our ticket. The tickets were printed wrong. The waiter never brought us the correct ticket back to us. We walked out to find the waiter; not only he was charging us in the middle of the hallway he was rude and told us to talk to the mamager....we were blocking people!! This was so so embrassing!!! This waiter should have brought us the tickets right after he corrected tickets back to the table so we would to pay at the table!! He never checked on us.... we were still paying customers!!

This was our first time to eat at "Tee". Loved it. A very chilled place to enjoy some good Texas Mex, have a drink and relaxed. It gets crowded but service is good. I had seafood enchiladas and I was really pleased just how good they were. Shrimp and scallops in a white cheese sauce that was almost like a white gravy with cheese, different but I loved it. Portions are huge.

Best Mexican food in houston. Great service, friendly family restaurant. Great hand squeezed orange juice, great breakfast items, great tea and coffee, great salsa and chips. Just go, eat and enjoy the airline st location.

Took my family on Monday Memorial Day 5/28/18 we got there around 1:30 The place has two sections to eat front area and back area we decided to go the the back area as soon as we walked to the back we were greeted by a waitress who made a face of discontent before we were even seated it was very noticeable and then from behind us came I would say some kind of manager that apparently was unsure if we should have gone to the back he spoke to the waitress and asked her if she was “going to want to attend to us” she still showed discontent because the area was almost empty I’m guessing she wanted the area free of any customers so she could leave I preceded to ask the manager If we were going to be served he said yes so we went ahead and sat down. She came to the table with attitude threw the menus on the table and walked away so another person came and took our orders for drinks she finally comes back after 35 minutes (we timed her)and takes our order still with the same face of discontent the person who cleans and clears the tables was actually nicer than this damn lady .. Needless to say this was not a good experience for me or my family I was very disappointed because we have been going to this restaurant since the first location on Irvington and this one on Airline since it’s a lot bigger. The food is awesome no complaints on that but still disappointed with the service hopefully the managers or owners of this restaurant will actually read these ratings and hire more qualified waitresses with a better attitude!! Seriously thinking we will just start going to “Spanish Flower” down the street where they have better service !!!

Many times I hear people tell me that "this restaurant or another" is the best Mexican cuisine here in the Houston area. However, after trying them and finding they are not good, I always come back to the best in town! Teotihuacan is truly genuine Mexican food.
Brenda Raulerson
Food was great and so was the atmosphere, people were talking and the music was not loud, that is a plus in my book, I love that type of atmosphere, everyone was very friendly and the service was great.

Probably the best Mexican food restaurant in The Heights area. The quality of the food is very consistent, the prices are amazing n the service is outstanding!!

We went in there tonight for the first time because it had four stars out of 450 reviews period found a gnat in my daughter's rice and they forgot to give us are tortillas when we ordered fajitas for two. We will never go back here
