Review Jang Guem Tofu & Bbq House - Houston

Iykyk. This is the spot for tofu soup! I came in recently and saw that they updated their menu. I was tempted to try them but I only planned to get tofu soup that day. So I’ll definitely come back to try the street food menu. T6 spicy always hits the spot!

Watching Kdrama and saw people eating this black noodle in Korean restaurant. Never eat one before. NY friend took me to lunch to Jang Guem Tofu &BBO Korean cuisine. I order the black bean sauce noodle. It is a big bowl and recommend to share. The noodle dish is kind of sweet with little meet. It came with some kimchi and other side dish(free). We also order some Korean boneless fried chicken with the house specialty sauce. That was very good indeed. If you wantsnto try something new in China Town Houston, go here. It is to the right of HMart on Bellaire Blvd.

Nice location. Holiday atmosphere with the screen display and Christmas music. Bibimbob sauce was watered-down with siracha sauce. Kimchi fried rice doesn't taste like the authentic Korean dish at all but bulgogi was tasty.

As a Korean American, I love to order Korean foods when I travel in diffrent cities. I got delivered by UberEats. Portions were great and both menus were yummy. I couldn't believe how much I paid for these foods after using 40% promotion code. What a nice place to enjoy authentic Korean food.

This is some of the tastiest Korean food i’ve ever had. Easily the best Korean food in Houston for overall value. The restaurant itself doesn’t offer much ambiance or atmosphere, but the food will keep me coming back. The owners seem like they are always bickering at each other in Korean, in front of patrons in the restaurant, I kind of find it amusing.

Tucked in near a corner next to Hmart, Jang Geum Tofu has been around for years in Chinatown serving homey Korean food. I remember frequenting this restaurant in the past with my family WAY back to when they had grilled mackerel, or whatever fish it was, as a side dish and when there were not that many Korean restaurants. I remember coming here and loving their kimchi tofu soup and side dishes. However, we started trying new places as newer Korean restautants and Kbbq places popped up and came less. After trying new places for some time, I decided to come back. So much has changed in these past few years, but the food has remained consistent for the most part. I ordered the combination (C1), which came with galbi and a tofu soup. For the soup, I chose the kimchi jigae tofu soup (T6). I also ordered the hot stone bibimbap with bulgogi. The side dishes were good, with the mashed potatoes being my favorite. It was pretty well portioned, and I even had enough to share with my partner. The soup also came out boiling, and I love cracking the egg into the soup. The tofu soup is still good, and I think it is my favorite kimchi tofu soup in Houston. The galbi was okay and was very fatty with a lackluster flavor. The quality of the meat has not changed even after all these years. The bulgogi bibimbap was pretty standard and was pretty good. Overall, I think what you get for the prices of the meals are a lot and worth it. If I had to recommend one dish, it would be the kimchi jigae soup for sure! They also have a variety of options and combinations, as well.

Our first time coming in this restaurant. We got friendly welcome in from our server. He told us about the food size portion when we think to order pancake kimchee because he doesn't want we had so much left over for the food (Thank you). He did recommend us to tried the combination. The side dishes is very good especially the kimchee very well seasoned. The vibrant aromas from The Korean Bbq (the meat is very tender)and Tofu (pork)Soup for my hubby and Beef intestine (perfect to eat) with Seafood Tofu for me. You could choose from beef, pork, seafood, etc. Spicy, mild or regular for your Tofu soup. All the food flavours is very tasty and delicious. We were enjoyed our lunches before grocery shopping.

--- NK Score = 8.2/10 --- 8/10 = Furniture/Ambience 9/10 = Food Quality 8/10 = Prices/Services (Other Ratings Hidden) _____________________________________________ =( BASIC INFO )= - Medium Sized Restaurant - Sometimes Busy, Usually Ok - Good Food ( $9.00 - $17.00 ) - Korean Tofu Soups, BBQ, Noodles - Quite Pricy, Good Service - Ok Parking, Some Walking _____________________________________________ = Atmosphere = Casual ambience, the inside looks nice and organized, but it's just one room so you'll be able to hear some noise from the nearby tables. Also, it's usually not very busy, so you can relax and enjoy your meal without much wait time. Overall a pretty relaxed restaurant. _____________________________________________ = Food Quality = - ZaZang ($11.99): Noodles with black bean sauce. The kind they make here is quite interesting, it has a unique sweetness with a small touch of umami. The noodles were very soft and tender, and the sauce was extraordinarily delicious, although maybe a tiny bit too sweet. Other than that, this bowl of ZaZang noodles definitely gave me a good time and a belly too full to realize I'm still sitting here. - Korean BBQ + Tofu Soup ($17.99): Combination of some BBQ and a nice Seafood Beef tofu soup. The bbq was pretty standard, nothing too special or yummy about it, and the portion was kind of small. On second hand, the tofu soup was nice and savory, it was warm and had a nice texture that cleansed all the flavors in my mouth. I didn't think this one was that worth it. - Spicy Samkyupsal Fried Rice ($11.99): Semi-spicy fried rice with a nice egg yolk that tenderizes the flavor and heightens the texture. Pretty good fried rice, but the satisfaction decreases as time goes by, possibly cause too much rice and not much anything else. Overall a decent dish to try. - Infinite Sides (Free!): Actually pretty good and delicious, like I could eat this stuff all day and be satisfied. Most of the sides are somewhat sweet, like the tofu skin, mash potato, and kimchi, which is different from most places, but still pretty darn delicious. The mash potatoes are really something else, so good! _____________________________________________ = Price / Service = Quite expensive place to eat, almost overpriced, except for the fact that you get infinite FREE sides! Like 6 different sides for free? Infinite? FREE? INFINITE? Ok, I'm done here. FREE? UNLIMITED!?? I mean it would be a rip off if the sides were bad, BUT IT'S GOOD! Free! Unlimited sides that are super fun to eat with your friends! Otherwise, most of the entree and other dishes are a bit pricy for a small portion. Very good service, attentive and fast. They're also very coordinated and seem to work together well. _____________________________________________ Recommendations: Share with a friend or as a group, you'll save money as well as have fun eating the sides together, but please don't just order 1 dish for 4 friends.... that's just disrespectful and rude. - Signed NK (June 2017) - Images below by Jason Lx (NK)

I had a craving for some Korean BBQ that was fully satisfied at Jang Guem Tofu and BBQ. I dragged the wife and son to JG. We ordered the Bulgogi with seafood tofu combo and a Korean BBQ dish. We had plenty left over after finishing our meal.

We like to come here when on this side of town. The food is always delicious and plentiful. Today we popped in for a quick lunch and they have a lunch special menu. Pricing is even better during this time! I had the Korean BBQ lunch box and my sister had the Bulgogi rice bowl. So much food! I thought the plating could have been better/nicer with the lunch box but the amount of kalbi I received for the price- who am I to complain about how the serving looks? The rice bowl was delicious. The bulgogi was well seasoned and the juices soaked into the rice giving everything a wonderful flavor. The servers kept our side items and beverages filled. Always enjoy ourselves when we come. Will definitely be back.

Good place for tofu soup! Service was good. I came here a while back for the galbi but wasn’t a fan. I’m glad I came back to try the soup. I had the beef and seafood tofu soup (#2) that came with rice and that was delicious. I can’t handle too much spicy so I just got mild and that was perfect for me. The sides weren’t the best I’ve had but I did enjoy the potatoes and fish cakes the most! I will definitely be back for more tofu soup

If the seafood pancake could be more crispy, I would like to give here 5 star! The tofu soup is very tasty! In sum it’s a nice place for good Korean food !

Driving through Houston, stopped here for late lunch. Had tofu soup with snails and I must say it was delicious! Also love all the side dishes they provide. Will definitely be back!
