One of the best places to get Tamales hands down. Great atmosphere, excellent service and the bean tamales are the bomb. Fresh hand made corn and flour tortillas, it's worth the drive, just be mindful of the location, lots of construction and not the best spot but you will not regret it. Worth every ounce of penny, gas, and hunger. It's insane.

I just absolutely love this place. I've been going here for years on top of years going back to their old location down the street. It's nice to see that their quality didn't change as they moved up. Still my favorite breakfast tacos in the city of Houston. Sweet bread is delicious and tamales always on point. It's definitely worth paying up for the hand made tamales too.

I've been coming here for many years since I grew up just down the street. They have always had really good tamales. Today I ordered the handmade chicken and handmade spicy pork. Both were very good. The lady taking my order got a little confused because my Spanish isn't the best and neither is her English but we managed to get thru it easy enough. My only complaint is not having spicy chicken as an option.

Man this place is definitely a mom n pop restaurant the food is amazing the prices were not that bad i got the asado de puerto n o man it’s delicious a must try and of course they famous for their tamales make sure u get you a dozen !

This Christmas, I decided not to make tamales. My husband heard of this place and we decided to make the drive from Katy. They had security in the parking lot directing people to the entrance. We had to enter thru the banquet hall and get in a long line. When we got closer to the front, someone took our order (4dz pork tamales) and a few minutes later, or order was brought to us and we went to pay at the register. They had 4 registers open. It was Christmas Eve and they had the line moving fast! They did a great job, starting with the police outside to the way they efficiently had the line moving fast! The tamales are the best I've had in a long time. They are delicious, with a good amount of pork inside. The masa is just right, the flavor how it's supposed to be. The bakery next door has great pastries (Mexican pan dulce) and cupcakes with a surprising filling! We will definitely be back again!

I have to agree with some of the 3-stars. I've been getting tamales from Alamo for the last 23 years. It started at the Canal and Jensen location. The tamales were like my grandmother's. In the last year of the Canal location is when I first noticed the difference. Today 11/5/23 I noticed a real difference. The color and flavor is gone. They are bland in taste. The new generation does not make them as their mothers did or are not tough how to. As they are still good but are average at best and not worth $16.99 a doz.

I ordered to go because I was heading out of town. The Barbacoa was delicious and juicy. Better than anything I've found in Dallas. The Pork Tamales were a medium size, but had a decent amount of meat in them and great flavor. The rice and tortillas were also very good. I was very impressed by the Barbacoa. There's also a Panaderia in the same building. They have a great selection to choose from.

The home made tamales are phenomenal. They are big, full of meat, and delicious just like my Mom's were. I thought I would never taste them ever again. These are 16.00 + for a dozen. Well worth every penny.

I do not speak Spanish, so the server gave me HER choices. The tamales are the BEST in Houston. Unfortunately the prices have gone up A LOT and the tamales have less filling. I guess I will sound bias since my company and I built the Tamale cookers that make them but I have been going there even before and the women always treat me and my family good and the plate lunches are always robust and the tacos are huge. people never complain about the prices because of the huge portions. If you go there thinking restaurant cuisine then you went to the wrong place. this is pure home style Mexican food at it's best

Both the handmade and the machine made tamales are very flavorful ... delicious. The reason for 3 stars is because we found both types of tamales to be
rather dried and falling apart whether warmed in microwave or steamed in a pan. The hand made are huge! It takes 4 of the machine made ones to equal 1 handmade one.

But the tamales my son got for me from there were BURNT. Got them on June 5th 2018 around 10 am. So sad that he paid for two of them and both were the same burnt.
