My husband and I were in Houston for four days, we ate out the whole time and this was by far the best food and service we had. Highly recommend!
Mexican food varies by the region of Mexico the restaurant emphasizes. In the case of La Tapatia, whatever region they emphasize on is right on the mark for me!
As a regular, I have tried just about everything here and found all my selections to be quite delicious.
Margaritas are a must! However they are pretty strong here so I usually opt for a Mexican beer.
Service is excellent, prices are reasonable and parking is abundant but can be challenging during peak times.

This is my absolute FAVORITE La Tapatia Restaurant in town. The food is ALWAYS on point, and the service is ALWAYS great. Out of what I believe has now been 25 years, I have never been disappointed with the food, drinks or atmosphere of this specific location. 🥹
♥️ I will, however, say that I do miss the pickled carrots-onions-garlic-jalapeño dish I used to be able to order there. They were so good, I used to also buy it in small batches to snack on at home. ***Please Bring That Back*** ♥️
This is a family-friendly environment with considerate staff, consistent quality and service, great drinks, and fair pricing.
Great food means we are regulars at this Houston Tex-Mex restaurant’s Montrose location.
I’m a fan of the Mole Enchiladas - a tasty Mole sauce is hard to come by! Another favorite plate is the El Torero, a combo plate that comes with a toquito, beef taco and cheese enchilada. A reasonable price for Tex-Mex is also hard to come by in the Montrose area, and Tapatia delivers in that area as well.

The food was amazing the service was fantastic!
Our server David Melton went above and beyond for not only our table but, each and every table, he was the best.
We are looking forward to adding this stop to one of our favorite Mexican restaurant places.
Best Mexican restaurant I have had in a long time. The green dipping sauce is to die for. Fresh tortilla chips as well. All very yummy. We stopped by for lunch and menu was very reasonable. $36 for two adults and two toddlers. Can’t find better deal in 2023. Def want to come back!

This is our go-to mexican restaurant in the area, their beef fajitas are so good! Highly recommend giving this place a try if you are looking to change things up. Drinks and service were also top notch.
Food is fantastic and a great price. I would certainly put their food up against any of the super famous local Tex-Mex restaurants. And also their Margaritas are top-notch. I enjoy sitting at the bar but there's plenty of tables it's a big restaurant and oftentimes the managers would even come to the table. The service is sometimes lacking sometimes it's not it's like a 50-50 split between 3.5 stars and a 5-star server. But this place is great?
La Tapatia is one of those places for which every Houstonian has a story. This location has been here for years and I used to come here as an undergrad student for their late nights eats and great happy hours. This was my first time back after the pandemic shut everything down and they definitely delivered!
Everything tastes like I remember. Both the red and green salsas are spicy served with hot and salty tortilla chips. We got the mixed fajitas and ordered them medium rare, but they were more like medium well. They didn’t come out sizzling either and seemed like they had been waiting under a heating lamp. It was great to be served our meal so quickly, but I wish they had taken the time to prepare them medium rare instead of getting our food with our margaritas. My margarita, The Ultimate, was salty, but my wife’s margarita, (the one below The Ultimate on the drink menu) was less salty. They come in huge glasses, but there are no prices listed on the drink menu — just a heads up.
The patio is a highlight because they have both heating lamps and fans for all seasons and weather. The parking lot is challenging, but if you can maneuver it you’ll have a great time on the patio or indoors.
The service is great, the food comes out quick, and it tastes like you remember. Sometimes that’s all you want.
We love visiting this location! The food, service, and mango margaritas are so good here. There’s plenty of parking every time I’ve visited. The wait staff are friendly and attentive. I love their salsa verde so much. I will be back again soon.
I've been here several times, I ordered quill I feel they used to be more tender and more seasoned but still pretty good. The salsa is super hot so be carful!😁
