The Counter

I’ve been coming back to The Counter for years, though not as often as I would like because despite of their delicious burgers and my favorite the amazing veggie club sandwich, I hesitate coming back because I know I have to plan for a long meal since they have a very slow service. Every time I’ve gone, there’s only one server to cover the whole floor which they usually are friendly and polite but for the place and traffic it gets it’s too much for one person. Also, when customers arrive at the entrance they are left wondering what to do...there’s a hostess stand but nobody to cover it, I think the best approach is to go ahead and seat yourself. The place is clean and they have plenty of good options to choose from and even a build your own with gluten-free bun and vegetarian options. They also have a good selection of draft beers and ciders with happy hours (M-F / 3-7). They have plenty of parking in the back garage as well. Overall I will suggest to give it a try if your not in a rush, I think the food is worth it.

One of top 3 places in Houston to eat a Turkey Burger. I haven’t eaten beef in over 20 yrs so struggle to find a decent turkey burger spot . There are so many options which to dress up your turkey burger and I love options. The shakes are great the place is clean well lit with natural light and the atmosphere is great . I recommend this to all people who do not eat beef and want a good turkey burger they also have a great vegan burger as well . Again top 3 in the city ! And I’ve turkey burgers in at least 20 or more places in Houston over the years.

Came back to The Counter after a while and they still make a burger that satisfies. I had the crispy chicken sandwich for the first time with jalapeños, garlic aoli and other toppings.....it was awesome! If you order a burger, the weight you choose is after it's cooked. So if you want a one pound burger, you'll truly get a one pound burger post-cooked. Stop reading and start eating!

I went back to the Counter after my bad experience 2 years ago (mainly because we were a large group going for burgers). Their service has improved a bit more but now they have the impossible burger which I am also sold on! I got the Bison Burger as a salad and was very full and satisfied. Will be back again!

Great ingredients, love the selection of sauces/relishes. A modern diner atmosphere that is casual clean. Beer selection is okay but would prefer more options to go with the unlimited burger combinations. I gave a 4 bcause I thought the standard bun could be much better and most of all because the burger was not hot...maybe I just got unlucky?
