Thank GOD I stumbled across this place on google. These salt&pepper shrimp were too good which was paired with fried rice and egg rolls. I am a loyal customer now🙌🏾🙌🏾.
Excellent place for fast, fresh and very tasty Vietnamese food. There was a great selection of phos, rice and noodle dishes and banh mi sandwiches; all at pretty reasonable prices given the exorbitant inflation we have all suffered the past two years. The place is a bit run down but still very comfortable. And the service is fast and friendly.
We enjoyed the spicy Ann delicious bun bo hue pho: a delicious chicken, noodle and vegetable plate; and Thai iced tea. For a little over $20 (including tip) our appetites were well sated and we had a good box of leftovers for an afternoon snack or a lite dinner.
I have been coming here since about 2003. Love the food. IMO this place sets the standard for many vietnamese dishes... I don't get my pho here though. 🫤
Saw that the "Worth It" show guys stopped in when they were in Houston and recommended it, so we thought we'd give it a try. We got Banh Mi sandwiches; Cali combo, pork roll, and tofu. All three were excellent and large for the price of $4. The tofu surprised me the most, had the flavor of grill meat. We also got egg rolls, which were different but awesome. And tofu spring rolls. Which were really big, but probably would have been better left as they come. We took our food to go, but this is a large space and has plenty of seating. A no frills place, but good food and portion sizes for the price.
You know it’s going to be good when you see the Vietnamese grandmas working. Very authentic, we enjoyed all our food.
Calis is a very home style restaurant that is very authentic. I consider it to have the best banh mi in town. I have tried several places in Houston known for their banh mi and they don’t compare to calis.
My go to order is a beef banh mi with a small wonton soup. 10/10 hits the spot and is very filling.
If you’re looking for a quick and tasty lunch spot Calis is definitely worth the visit.
Delicious and affordable place! The portion was great for the price, and was all around great for Vietnamese cuisine. They have all the traditional dishes plus bánh mì. There’s lots of seating and service is pretty fast. Not the cleanest place, but for the prices there’s not much more which can be asked for. Definitely a good go to spot for Vietnamese cuisine.
Stopped by to have lunch one day. I'm very particular about tofu dishes, so I tried the Cali Spicy Garlic Tofu to see how it was. I chose vegetables instead of rice. The tofu was absolutely fantastic and I was very pleased with the dish. They did a wonderful job of seasoning the dish which most places I've tried have come up short. I appreciated having several vegetarian options to choose from. Since there were several tofu dishes on the menu, I stopped by on another day and tried the Tofu in Curry Sauce. It was absolutely delicious as well. I can say that they are consistent in their food preparation. Also, the service was excellent. Will definitely be back to try another vegetarian dish. In addition, their entire menu has a vast amount of items to choose from. There is definitely something for everyone.
Great banh mi. I recommend the combo. Chicken banh mi has good flavor but is a bit dry. Also got the pork roll and grilled pork but have yet to try. Decent prices and good service. Deducting one star since there was no baby changing table in their restroom.
Houston Staple! A buddy mentioned he over-heard some business owner at another influential restaurant taking about this place. We peeped game and we’re not disappointed. The authenticity is comparable to a few spots in Chinatown we like to hit up from time to time. Btw they still have 2008 prices! Honestly, tell me another place you can buy a banh mi for 4.62? In midtown, on top of that!
