Review Mein Restaurant - Houston

Seriously, I did not know this restaurant existed or the whole shopping center. Tucked away in Chinatown, what a FIND! The whole hidden center is a little gem. The restaurant is so cool inside, and we got 4 items to try and I really like their food. It is actually an upscale Chinese restaurant. I took a pic of the bar and the staff was super friendly. Would like to return and try other entrees like the squid ink fried rice. We tried the spare ribs, the brussel sprouts and cauliflower and combo fried rice with sausage and shrimp and the dry wonton garlic pork with noodles. Yummy!

Great flavor! Great service! Nice clean atmosphere. Definitely recommend the 1/2 oil chicken! Beef satay was delicious too. Fair prices. Fully recommend for Hong Kong food.

Awesome food, been here a few times and am never disappointed, staff are always attentive and the atmosphere is great! The cucumber salad is a definite to go on my visit as are the green beans. If you like fried foods the salt pepper fish and fried chicken cubes are great!

Amazing service and food. I asked for advice if the menu, My waiter told me the egg noodles are made in house. I tried this signature noodle, it’s fresh and chewy, very delicious and so different from supermarket noodles. Much better environment and service than regular Asian restaurants. Highly recommended.

Had a really nice meal and time. Came in understanding that this place is popular and has and would have a bit of a wait. When we arrived parking was pretty full through the whole shopping center so watch out as it could take a minute or be a little struggle for a parking spot at peak time. Saw a security guy walking around so that was nice to see in the area (or not if he wasn’t legit lol). When we arrived we got our name on the list, waited about 10 minutes outside in their outside seating, and got seated. The restaurant has a pretty standard but cool vibe. All around brightly lit, open space which made a little bit loud, but nothing wrong with that for a casual dinner date, just not an intimate spot. Our table was a little awkward 2 top where a lot of the staff walked by but was also nice if we needed anything they were right there. Our waiter, the host, and everybody were quick and friendly. Definitely liked the staff here. Not overbearing or checking all the time which is nice. For our food we ordered: - Crispy Duck (3/10) - Shaking Chicken (7/10) - Dry Beef Hor-Fun (7/10) - Squid Ink Fried Rice (10/10)⭐️⭐️⭐️ - Lava toast (7/10) The crispy duck came out and was their take similar to what a lot of places have for their duck bao. The duck being fried ended up being really well done and kind of dry. I’d compare it to a Chinese buffet’s fried chicken. It was ok, but I’d try something else next time. The shaking chicken was a nice chicken and rice option. Good flavors and pretty standard fare. The dry beef hor-fun was a good beef and rice noodle dish. Again a good flavors and pretty standard. Nothing special but nothing wrong with it either. I did really enjoy the veggies with this one as they just seemed to carry the flavors of the dish really well. The absolute star though, the reason to come in my opinion, was the squid ink fried rice! I’ve had squid ink paella at BCN, MAD, and in the Mediterranean. This was better than all of those. Just so good. Will come back for this one and highly recommend. We finished off with the Lava toast. A molten buttery sweet French toast with custard at the center was very yummy. The custard was just a bit grainy as a texture but otherwise very nice. Just the right amount of sweet. Nice end to a good dinner. All in all of definitely recommend giving Mein a go. It’s rated highly among the chinese restaurants in Houston, so grab some friends and give it a shot in my opinion.

We were going to eat somewhere else but found this place and it looked a little nicer with a bigger menu. We ordered crispy chicken with green beans, delicious and the cumin lamb, also delicious. Dan dan noodles and Red oil dumplings were tasty too. 😋 I would love to go back when I'm in the area again.

I’m regular here. Been coming here since they open. The food and customer service are excellent! The interior design is very unique and vintage look!

Mein is sensational restaurant! I had an excellent experience on a Friday night. The staff is kind, the food came out HOT and seasoned just right, it's my go to spot for Cantonese food Started with the Crab Rangoon, and red oil dumplings. And for the main dish green beans, Drunken noodles (shrimp and tofu), and fire cracker chicken! This was more than enough to feed 3 people! They have hefty portions and a chill lowlight environment!

Food consistently good here. We beat the crowd by coming in when they just opened at 5 pm, because this place is usually packed during dining peak hours. Our go tos are 炒粿条,lava toast, fu zhou chow fan, Chinese crullers. Good atmosphere and friendly service. Our go to Cantonese spot!

Mein never disappoints! Always busy when I come in, but the food comes out quickly. My favorite is the Sansai egg tofu and garlic butter lobster. The herb salmon starter wasn’t what I expected but it was tasty and refreshing. I did not like the Yuzu Yakult drink though bleh. Be prepared to be on a waitlist on Sundays.

A wonderfully delicious Cantonese style restaurant. They have an impressive menu selection to satisfy most needs. The food came out extremely fast and did not lack in quality or quantity. The hand pulled chicken was the absolute star of the show. The staff was very nice and service was great. My only warning is that this place fills up QUICK. Plan to come early, or prepare for a wait to be seated. Still, it was very much worth the experience!

Mein is always busy and this past weekend was no different. We waited outside about 20 minutes for a table. It would be a great customer service move if the managers offered water to guests waiting outside, considering the heat of Houston. The smashed cucumber appetizer was excellent like always. We always order the green beans without meat as a vegetarian starter and that was flavorful like usual. I ordered chicken luc lac while my spouse ordered tofu luc lac.The chicken luc lac is nowhere near as well seasoned as the tofu so I won’t be ordering it again. The tofu luc lac continues to be one of the best I’ve eaten in Houston.

Restrooms were clean, nice lively atmosphere. Ordered the Black bean noodles (jajiangmyeon). It was pretty good, but the sauce was way too salty. Also got the Xiao Long Bao, which had no soup. If you come here, don't get food that is not Cantonese. Overall, it's pretty good! Keep Up The Great Work!

One of my favorite Chinese restaurants for big groups. Ample seating, big food portions, and good service. Ihad the twin wok, salt and pepper squid, firecracker chicken, and char kuey kak. All the dishes were so tasty, and good. The twin wok dish was a good mix of thin noodles and flat noodles. Best of both worlds in a dish. The salt and pepper squid was crispy, salty, and little peppery. The firecracker chicken wasn't spicy despite the dried chilies on the plate. The char kuey kak had to be eaten with the chili sauce provided for the perfect taste. I would come back here again and again and again.

The food here is always in point, and very consistent. We've been eating here since Day one and nothing has changed except the business. It just seems to be more busy every time we visit. As for the food, very tasty and the dishes are more than enough. The presentation is always nice as well. We noticed last night, that Lobster was now available. We were told though it's only for a limited time which sucks... maybe next time, hopefully. The staff is always friendly and very attentive. The Manager has been there for a while, very nice guy. He always takes a few minutes to come by and talk and make sure we're good whenever he sees us. The only "issue" I have is the parking. The restaurant is always busy so finding a spot isn't the easiest. That's why we prefer to eat a little earlier, to avoid that problem. This is one of my family's 3 favorite restaurants in China Town. So as long as they keep doing what they're doing, it'll remain that way and we'll continue to dine there.

Delicious food and great staff! Drunken noodles were sooo good. My only complaint is that it was so loud I could barely hear the person sitting next to me.

In Houston, there are many good choices for Chinese food. However, this would be on the top of my list. The quality of the food combined with the reasonable prices creates very good value. The service is exemplary, and I would describe the vibe as energetic. This is by no means the typical drab Chinese restaurant.

Family sized portions meant to share. Everything I've had so far was delicious. Can get busy on the weekends.

Have been visiting Mein and Chu Mike for years and never astonished at the level of service and quality of food they always deliver here. Can't go wrong with most anything from the menu. Pro tip, get the lava-toast to wrap up your meal!
