Review Kuu Restaurant - Houston

All around great experience, I came on a day when they had a violinist playing live, really enjoyed it. You don't see that everywhere, shows management really care. Food was delicious and of great value for this class and cuisine and location. Servers were knowledgeable and well trained, food served in good pace and sequence, kitchen and front of house well coordinated. Thumbs up!

It’s a good spot for Sushi/sashimi. Specially the sashimi is very good. We had the rock beef and it tastes good and the presentation is pretty nice. The best thing I’ve had is the desert, it has a lot of textures and tastes very different, it stains the teeth but easily removed with water. Overall I recommend this place .

Most items on the social "happy" hour menu were reasonably priced. It was quiet/slow so not sure why it took my food so long to come out. Luckily all the items tasted great. Cocktails were delicious as well. I sat at the counter to see the sushi being made but sadly the chefs didn't make much of a show of it. I could barely see anything. Definitely order from the Toyosu selection of the day. It won't disappoint.

The sushi was delicious! I didn't have a big appetite, otherwise I would have ordered more items. This is my favorite place to visit in the area. The night I was there, they had a violinist performing live who played beautifully.

Food is decent and very nice interior and customer services. I’m very picky on the food and pass my test.

Excellent service and exceptional quality sushi. The only issue I found was a rather unpleasant smell near the entrance to the restaurant. Otherwise I really enjoyed the food and would return in the evening to experience the selection in the bar.

Kuu has some seriously good sushi. Very fresh and a great variety. We tried just about everything on the menu including their sampler of white fish (mostly Atlantic). We had a ton of sashimi, and had their sea bass/scallops for entrees. It was all fantastic. We had a few different rolls and they were all great. The Kobe beef was really tasty as well. The drinks were good as well, but they were out of a lot of the drink options. Still had plenty to choose from. I highly recommend Kuu for sushi. It’s pricey, but worth every penny

I'm not a big sushi fan. Thankfully Kuu had a few things looked really good. I'm not going to lie, it's pretty expensive but the food presentation was gorgeous. However; portions were really small and I left hungry (there were 5 bite size pieces to the pork belly). I will mention that the squash purée was absolutely wonderful, it was like a dessert. The service was great and the birthday girl had a great time.

We had a great time celebrating my boyfriend and brother's birthday at this place. Service: everyone is friendly and welcoming. Our waitress of the night is very sweet. Atmosphere: There is a violinist guy playing at night. Very lovely and romantic. You can request a song from him. Food: I have been to so many omakase places so my judge will be from experienced person. I would give the food 7/10 due to the taste and freshness of the fish. Besides the special menu, fishes on regular menu weren't 100% fresh with my taste. I love foie gras but it was a little over cooked (lessen the buttery taste of it). However you guys still should give it a try. The place is very romantic for a date night or family gatherings. I would still come back.

Amazing place! The fish and sushi was excellent! This is one of the best Japanese restaurants in town.

Kuu was an awesome experience! We got an amazing server that really sealed the deal. Food was all beautifully plated and the flavors were to die for. Tuna tartare stole the show but steak capaccio was definitely a close second. Kuu roll, June roll, wagyu gyoza...everything was very delicious. The tiramisu for dessert was undoubtedly the best way to end the visit.

Took my hubby for our anniversary a couple of weeks ago. Service was excellent and our waitress was very knowledgeable. We selected the omakase which is the chef's choice to decide what to serve us. All dishes were beautifully plated and delicious. We were served a small portion of 7 to 8 dishes and each dish was visually pleasing and felt like there was a story behind each dish. The price was steep but worth it for only on special occasions. We will come back to visit and try other items on the menu.

Service was great! We ordered many different dishes. The final price was expensive once you add everything up, but the food was delicious and aesthetically pleasing. We loved everything we ordered. Definitely would go back for more!

So nice, I ate there twice!! Had to come to Houston for work, and the hotel was in walking distance. Right off the bat, I liked the ambiance. If the weather is nice, I recommend sitting in their outdoor patio area. It was late afternoon, so they had twinkly lights throughout the square, and little flickering candles on each of the tables. It was a quiet, relaxed atmosphere! Great if you're traveling solo, or meeting a friend or colleague, or just a casual girls night out! They have a pretty extensive drink menu. I always go for the sake. This time I tried their hot sake one evening and unfiltered sake the next! I prefer the unfiltered! It is served chilled, and tastes milder and sweeter than the typical hot sake. It was delicious! I started out with some pan seared garlic edamame with my sake. One night I got the Seared Peppered Salmon salad with edamame dressing. It was delicious and just the right portion! Both evenings, I got the Rin sushi roll. It has a tempura fried shrimp surrounded by sushi rice with a little cream cheese and avocado inside, then rolled with nori and topped with a spicy aioli and thin slivers of pepper on the top of each slice. Dipped partially into soy sauce, it was just the right combination of spicy, salty, and savory. The nigiri I tried was the akaushi & quail egg (seared thin slice of wagyu beef & over medium quail egg). The flavor was good, however I wasn't as big a fan of the chewy texture of the more raw beef. The sake toro (salmon belly, yuzu kosho, & ikura) was delicious, and the Kani (snow crab). My particular favorites were the ikura (salmon roe) & yuzu tobiko (yuzu flying fish roe). The salmon roe was savory and mild in taste, and the yuzu roe was crunchy, salty, & savory. For dessert, it is worth the wait if you order the ube soufflé! Takes 20-25 min to prepare, and comes out piping hot so I recommend letting it cool down a bit or blow on it before you dive in...so you don't risk burning your taste buds like I impatiently did! It comes with a small cup of coconut cream which I drizzled on top of the soufflé and allowed to soak in. It is sweet but not rich like most desserts that leave you unable to finish it. Small enough portion to be enjoyed by one person. The crispy coconut fries are interesting because they are spicy. Wasabi perhaps? The ube candy bits that come as part of the garnish are sweet and delicate and a little chewy. Note that the large grains of what look like rock candy on your plate are actually sea salt. I was a bit taken by surprise haha. Overall, it was a great way to round out a day filled with conference talks; a quiet setting to rest your mind or clear your head; or a great place to chat and catch up with a friend or coworker! I will be visiting there again on my next stay nearby for sure!

I surprised my husband for his birthday with dinner at this location and the food was exceptional. Our waiter, Julio was very helpful as it was our first time here and recommended all his favorite dishes. We tried the Toyosu sashimi box, Kanpaccio, King Crab Sunomono for cold/raw dishes and for sushi we tried June and Kuu. Everything was paired perfectly together and we loved all the flavors. They serve tasting menu portion so be prepared if you’re extremely hungry. We enjoyed our time here especially the customer service. Thank you Julio for a memorable experience!

Fabulous food

The innovative combinations of flavors and textures is what makes Kuu stand out for us. So many choices, and everything we tried was fantastic

Came here on a Sunday with my girls and it was pretty dead so we didn't have an issue with poor customer service like some of the reviews stated. I didn't catch our waitresses name but she was attentive and very accommodating. For the most part, most of our dishes came out so fresh and tasted outstanding.

The ambiance at Kuu was modern and chic. It was very spacious. They had a variety of different tables so smaller/larger groups could sit. The restaurant's cleanliness was 5/5. We ordered Lychi Martinis ans they were strong!! So yummmy!

Food:

-Kanpaccio (5/5): Omg so fresh! The slice of orange adds a nice zesty touch. It so refreshing. Great starter!

-Hirataki (4.5): So Delicious! Loved the sauce that came with it. Very tasteful and fresh.

-King Crab sunomono (3.5/5): Meh this wasn't my favorite dish but definitely if you want to try it, try it with the cucumber and crab together and make sure you dip it in the sauce! My friend suggested it with the lemon peel but it was too bitter for my taste.

-Hamaccio (4/5): Mm delicious but the Parmesan cheese was a bit too thick for my tasting.

-Foie Gras Sushi (5/5): Perfectly seared! Everything about this was 5/5! We had to order 2 orders of this!

-Uni Sushi (4/5): Just your average basic uni. Fishy

-Truffle Suzuki Roll (4/5): We wanted to see what the hype was about so we ordered 2 of these and I personally thought they were ok. Good but not great.

-Poseidon Roll (4.5/5): I personally enjoyed this roll better than the Truffle roll.

-Otori Sashimi (2/5): It was too fishy for us. We didn't enjoy this dish. But our waitress was accommodating and comped this dish for us!

-Uni King Crab (1/5): I'm not sure about this dish. We barely touched it. To me it tasted awful.. there was a smell to it and I personally thought it smelt like vomit. Hate to say it because everything else was delicious. She also comped this dish.

All in all everything else besides the last 2 dishes were incredible. Service was great! Will be returning and most definitely will recommend Kuu to sushi foodies!

The service was very friendly and helpful. I had the garlic edamame as an app and it was very delicious. The crispy duck however was not crispy at all and had more of a fish smell and flavor than duck.

My husband and I came here a few months ago and it was outstanding so we decided to try it again. It was even better the second time!! Cody was our server and was absolutely amazing. The wine, the atmosphere, the service, the food, EVERYTHING was PERFECT! We travel all over the world and get amazing sushi, this is truly some of the best I have ever had.
The atmosphere is very inviting, Very good lighting, modern and sexy.
We started off with a bottle of Cabarnet. Which was great! 2014 Jamieson Ranch Double Lariat was the name if I'm not mistaken. Great bottle of wine.
The sushi chef then prepared us a complementary appetizer, not sure what is was, but WOW it was incredible.

We then ordered the Foie Gras, Kanpaccio, Hamaccio, shishito peppers, and garlic edamame to start. PHENOMENAL is every way possible!

Then we had the AMAZING JUNE roll, out of this world!!! We had the Truffle Suzuki, which was amazing as well. We had several pieces of INSANELY DELICIOUS fresh that had jut come in from Japan house before...Im so upset I cannot remember the names but they were a daily special and we are SO happy Cody told us about them. We ended up ordering several of them.... fantastic in every way.

We ended the evening with an amazing mousse dessert and left super happy.

We will come back again and again. If you have not been, you need to go asap. I promise you will not be disappointed. This place makes my husband and I so incredibly happy and we crave it all of the time!!!

Elegant, sophisticated and cozy at the same time. Servers were knowledgeable and didn't fumble when questioned about offerings. Service was fantastic and the dishes were divine

Probably some of the best sushi in Houston. Very friendly staff. Great place for a good lunch or dinner. It is reasonably priced for the location and quality of sushi.

Excellent sushi. This restaurant features unique nigiri and sushimi options on a special menu, and the staff understand the offerings. It's a bit pricey, but it's soooo good!

High quality sushi with a variety of different tastes!. One of my favorite things about the sushi here is that there is a minimal amount of rice. The rolls are more fish than anything and that is an uncommon treat! The variety of different tastes were delicious. You can tell the chef likes to experiment and it pays off. The servers are very knowledgable as well which is helpful if you are not a sushi expert.

We love Kuu! We haven't tried anything on the menu that is less than awesome. Their signature Kuu roll and Yui roll are amazing! Best innovative Sushi restaurant in town!

And let's not forget the cocktails; one word...IMPRESSIVE. KUU Restaurant is on the pricey side, but we felt that the food and the experience were well worth it.
