Review Grand Lux Cafe - Houston

I came here with coworkers during lunch hour, and it did not disappoint at all. Food came out pretty fast and was spot on. It looks very elegant on the inside and has a great ambiance. I wish I had more space to try dessert. Extensive menu to cater to all walks of life for sure. Perfect for all occasions, and I can rarely say that for all restaurants. I had the Grilled Chicken with lemon sauce and subbed the pasta for rice. It was creamy and wonderfully cooked while healthy too! For finger food lovers -Chicken Tender meal was presented nicely, and you just want to just stare at it.

Atmosphere was really nice. Warm relaxing colors for comfortable eating experience. The food wasn't as GREAT as I was expecting considering price and location, but it wasn't bad at all. It was very tasteful and was very warm when I received it. Others at my table couldn't say the same, reporting some of their dishes were under seasoned, having it replaced. They also were out of a lot of things we tried to order. (understandable because of global supply shortages) I almost slipped when I walked into the men's room. Something to look out for. They either don't have enough cleaning staff or don't clean of often because the entire restroom floor was wet with urine residue and water splashes from the people walking over to grab paper towels. Expected a little more overall but would still definitely come again for the drinks.

This place looks awesome and has the decor of Las Vegas. So the venue and atmosphere gets a five star for sure. But the food came a bit short. They have a great selection and a great variety. But the quality was not very consistent. Their week known Cafe Beef Wellington was excellent, but some of the other dishes were average. The drinks were not very impressive and did not have a good presentation. But it was also very affordable. So you do pay for what you get. Overall I do recommend this restaurant.

Got the pork chop and the Buffalo chicken rolls. Food was pretty good but not amazing. Service and vibe was fine. Good variety of choices and price wasn't too crazy. $20-30 for most plates, with steaks going up to $50+. It's good overall.

Preston, our server, was amazing. He recognized us immediately and was extremely accommodating. Our meal itself was stellar, and there were a lot of choices. The only complaint I do have is that my water glass was dirty (as in, when you picked up the cup, you could feel the rough texture of leftover, dried grease on the outside of it). We had a little mishap while paying, but the servers did their best to adjust to our needs. The portion sizes are huge for the price you pay. We ordered a molten chocolate cake to go (be sure to order it earlier if you do choose to eat it, as it takes 15-20 minutes to be prepared), and they gave us a separate box with a huge scoop of ice cream so that we could put it in top of the warm cake whenever we got home. It was a really nice touch. Typically, you will see restaurants not give any ice cream at all, or, if they do provide ice cream, most restaurants will lump it together with the main dessert, leading to a soggy soupy mess.

Had a wonderful time dining here. The service is top notch, the atmosphere is great, and the food! Oh the food! I had the Buffalo chicken bites and the chicken and mushroom brown butter pasta. Both were great! Everyone around me were enjoying their dishes too. Highly recommend!

Always a good experience. Sometimes there can be a wait but this last time I went there was none. Food was delicious as always. The burgers here are delicious. Tons of options for every palette. If you like tropical alcoholic drinks, try the Calypso mojito. It's delicious.

I came here for a quick dinner salad. The food was good, service is professional and courteous, just a little slow. Overall, a great place. I’ll come here again.

This is the second location that I'm visiting. I've been to one of the Grand luxe cafes in New York, so I came in knowing what to expect. Pros: 1. Great ambience. Can't argue with that. 2. Food is good. Loved the flavors of everything we ordered. 3. Service was top notch. Our server was very considerate, attentive, and very respectful of our several customizations. Accommodated us very well. 4. Plenty of parking nearby. Cons: 1. It was a busy evening so service was slightly delayed at times. Not that it bothered me but definitely something that can be improved.

Went there during lunch and really enjoyed it. Although we went for 12pm there wasn't a lunch crowd which was good. The food was delicious and we didn't have to wait long. Server was great.

Father’s Day was the worse. We were seated. The waiter took our drink orders and returned literally 10 minutes later with dirty wine glasses. I informed him they were dirty with dried residue along side the glass. He took them away and stated he rinse them off hence they were dripping wet and some even filled with water. I asked him to please just bring us new glasses that are dry. He come back and takes the food order. The food arrives really late our glasses are empty and the table was now cleaned of the general and appetizer dishes. My brother order chicken and waffles. Along side his plate seemed to to be dried eggs or cheese. It was disgusting. My and father and i opens our eating utensils only to find dried food stuck to the knife and my spoon. I asked a waiter walking by to see a manager. The manager arrives and i informed him of the many disappointments and he stated he would adjust the bill. I informed him we were here for a free meal. We choose this Restaurant out of hundred in the Houston area. We usually choose better dinning however Del Frisco wasn’t open. He then walked away. The waiter returns and begins to attempt to check me. Stating i should have informed him first about my issues. I simply informed One he wasn’t around secondly i gave him an opportunity to fix and he fucked that up with the wine glasses. He then tried to go back and forth with me and i finally asked him to dismiss him self from my presence. The bill was brought, everything was comped except the champagne. We paid and walked out. I will never visit this place again. I’m sure if this weren’t a chain the doors would be closed.

I haven’t been here in almost 2 years, apparently a lot has changed because this used to be one of my favorite restaurants when I am in the area which obviously isn’t often. The plate I loved is no longer on the menu which always made the wait worth it. Like others we had to ask for bread. All the staff seem to be chaotically running around and don’t seem very friendly or concerned with the excellent customer experience I have been accustomed to in the past. Our food was good and all in all the service wasn’t bad but definitely not as pleased as I have been in the past. Bring back my Cuban sandwich please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I give Grand Lux 5 stars because I don’t want to mess with their rating. However, it has been 8 years since I went here. Every experience in my past was awesome. It’s always my go to, when having a meaningful day with loved ones in the Galleria area. This past Thursday kind of bummed me out though. They sat me and my S.O. in the bar section without asking if we minded being in that section. It was really loud, and we had less attentive service. The waitress was on point, but there is a different level of customer care in the main dining area. Wish they would have asked before seating us. Not a fan of the loud bar area.

My sister and brother in law came in from out of town on sunday and were leaving on monday. But before they left we had to stop at Grand Lux for lunch. Love this place. Love the brunch, lunch and dinner. Yes a little pricey but worth it since the food portion is enough for two. So i give it a two thumbs up.

Went to the Grand Lux this past Saturday evening with my cousin and friends. We were seated about 15 minutes after arrival. I ordered the shrimp and chicken jambalaya, very impressive presentation. Had never had this version of that dish. Very tasty, indeed! My cousin ordered beignets, they were absolutely, scrumptious! You would think you were in New Orleans! The fusion of Roman architecture, mixed with the decore from;it seems like the 1920's, added a rare ambiance to your establishment! My first time dining with y'all, definitely not my last!
Tiana Clark
After we were seated the waitress took about 20 minutes to come and take our drink order. Which a coke, some kind of pineapple drink and a margarita was ordered. It took her 30 minutes to bring the margarita out. Then we ordered our food and literally took about 50 minutes for our food to come. Was not pleased at all.

Usually like this place and the Asian nachos but today sucked it big. Food was not good. Gummy undercooked food and extra peanut Sauce was cold right out of the ice box. I've noticed last few times here not the same quality of food from the kitchen. 44$ later will stop on way home to eat. At least drinks were good, but cooks were not. And to top it off. No one cares what you think when you say anything. Used to be my go place for treating myself on day off. Sucks I drove from Katy to eat here.

I have always LOVED this place! Don't get get as often as i wold like, but it is simply awesome dining here. I guess, this is gonna be another one of "MY" places, for myself to come..by myself. Staff is wonderful, ambiance is nice..beautiful architecture (of course I love that) and Interior Design..just a nice place to go have a great meal!

I had brunch here yesterday with my family. I had a cousin here from out of state and wanted to impress with somewhere nice. Positives: the ambience is always nice, I was seated rather quickly, food was good and came out timely. Negatives: The front desk hostess referred to me as “mama”. I have never met her and she was way too informal and casual with me. However when another guest walked up, she referred to this woman with “yes ma’am”. Please be professional and formal across the boards with all guests. 2nd, our waitress was clearly having a bad day as I even stopped her and gave her a pep talk at the end of our meal. She did apologize for her moody demeanor towards us, but only after I said something. Apparently another guest was rude to her. I am enlightened that can change your mood; however, she was very short with us and had an attitude (and my party was kind and respectful to her). My mom said she watched her walk over to the waiter stand where she threw a towel after cleaning a spill. To be in the location you’re in (Galleria area), you have a lot of locals and out-of-Towners that are looking for a good dining experience. Please re-orient your staff on professionalism, courtesy and not using casual jargon with strangers.

Enjoyed my meal and the atmosphere. We recommend you trying the cafe.

One of my fav restaurants in the Galleria area. Highly recommend it!!!

Best service and really great food. The waiter made myself and my friends feel comfortable and had a great time

Yesterday service was bare minimum! I have been to Grand Lux numerous times with excellent service with a large party but the area were we seated in on yesterday was thumbs down. It was only 3 of us there to celebrate my sisters birthday. We will rethink about visiting again coming from Katy to the Galleria I expect more...

cultural diversity at its best

Our 2 experiences at this fine establishment in Houston felt as though we were in a melting pot of world culture. There was a diverse mix of folks, all enjoying the fine food and atmosphere along with superb service. The food we had for lunch was top notch and we enjoyed a light, friendly banter with our waitress on each visit. We were treated professionally, but friendly too. Very nice happening on our trip to Houston.

We were visiting our Nephew his wife and their new born baby in Humble, Texas. We went out to diner with them at Grand Lux Cafe. It was an amazing experience. The menu had many choices that you don't find in most restaurants (like Beef Wellington) but the prices were very reasonable. The restaurant looking very fancy so the reasonables were a welcome surprise. The food was excellent.

I loved grand lux cafe for their generosity and cleanness. We ordered appetizers and main platters and we couldn’t finish half of the main courses. I recommend to try the sandwich with brie and turkey, also the crispy caramel chicken which is amazingly good. Service is excellent (I dropped some food on my clothes and the waitress helped me a lot) however, the place lacks ambiance.

Saumon à trois... salmon three ways is definitely an order again dish. Atmosphere is good with great service. The warm earthy bread and butter is a plus.

Wow! Guy was absolutely right on with this one. Love the atmosphere. The service is good and so is the food. Very chill. Excellent food, quick service, relaxing. Fish and chips were executed perfectly.

I have only been here a couple of times but the food has been great.

Parking has been hit or miss.

Great place for drinks and the place itself has been clean.

Staff has been attentive and friendly.

Good place for a date night.

I live for a food holiday because I am GREAT at celebrating those! This Saturday (March 25th) happens to be International Waffle Day and as you can imagine a brunch connoisseur like myself is excited. In preparation for Saturday’s “holiday”, Grand Lux invited me out to try their chicken and waffle dish assuring me that it rivaled the best in the city. Check out my review below!

I went to Grand Lux on yesterday I ordered chicken alfredo and buffalo wings, as a result I was food poisoned I called this morning and reported it to the manager and she said was it was a isolated event. I think if a person becomes sick after eating their food they should be compensated in some kind of way. It use to be my favorite restaurant but not after this, absolutely horrible service.
Ayesha
Grand Lux is a nice restaurant ... kind of a Cheesecake Factory meets ancient Egypt thing going on. The menu is large and reasonably priced. The location across from the Galleria makes getting there difficult before the holidays.

First arrived and menu is overwhelming but I found exactly what I was looking for - a small appetizer and a big salad. Plenty of salad choices which tasted great but the must have it were the Asian short rib tacos. Amazing!

The food and service were wonderful and very friendly. The staffs were very friendly and polite. Worth the visit.
Excellent ambiance and view! Very well service and extremely attentive.

I've been here a dozen or so times and have never once had a bad experience. Wait staff / bar tenders are always attentive to our party. Food is delicious. This place is awesome!

This is a very popular Sunday brunch spot and the team at Grand Lux handles the needs of the customers with ease. This is a great plus.
Belgian Waffles with toffee syrup 👍👍👍👍
Chilaquilas 👍👍👍👍👍

The desserts looked very tempting and I think I will head back just for the desserts someday soon

The Grand Lux is awesome because just like the cheesecake factory, the menu is extensive. I love the half sandwich / half salad option that they have during lunch. The chicken salad is great and I highly recommend. Their desserts are also great specifically the red velvet cheesecake. And their french fries are the perfect remedy for ANY hangover!

Great lunch.... Went with a friend on a whim. I enjoyed a salmon dish that was delicious. We shared a bottle of wine...decent wine list. I would go again when in Houston. Lux is across the street from the Galleria.

I am a business traveler, and frequent the Grand Luxe in Houston several times a year. I usually get there late and sit at the bar as ai travel alone. This evening I ordered my standard glass of wine and a salad. The wine arrived, about 2 oz. in a dirty glass, a $10 item! Needless to say, I was not happy. I cancelled everything and left.

Quality and Quantity. Reading some other reviews I have to disagree. I agree that the portions are large here, however I believe the quality is also good. The food here is pretty impressive and I eat out when in Houston often. I especially like the salads and the made to order desserts. I also appreciate the fact that given the large size of the restaurant I can often easily get a seat without a long wait. I have been here many times and will be back again.

Horrible experience. Went out for dinner and they brought out only one of two meals that we ordered. As i sat and waited for my dates dinner yo arrive, several minutes passed and finally the manager approached our table and told us the pasta went to the wrong table and they where re-making it. so we shared the sandwich while we waited. then our server approaches us and tells us the pasta went to the wrong table... AGAIN! unbelievable! although they where extremely apologetic and they took care of our bill it still made for an unpleasant experience and i would not recommend this place.

Everything that my wife or I have ordered has been delicious! It is a must to get the strawberry shortcake for dessert every time!

Dinner with family. Recently enjoyed a great meal with the family at The Grand Lux. The Manhattan Salad was delicious, but the Red Velvet Cake was the big hit of the night. IT WAS FANTASTIC!!!!!

No real concern for customers safety. To start with the service was great, the food was very well done but the restaurant's concern for the safety of their customers and their employees is troublesome. The hostess greeted my wife and I as expected but when I told her that the floor was extremely slippery and dangerous she gave me a look as if I was annoying her. I asked her if she knew the floor was slippery she said yes, I asked again do you know that the floor is slippery and dangerous, she said again YES and walked away. As I watched customers and employees slip and slide the entire night I wondered what could of caused the slippery conditions through out the restaurant, I came to a couple of conclusions. 1. Kitchen Grease, Poor Floor Wax or condensation from the rainy day before. All three are troublesome and problematic but all three have solutions, which I have to ask the question, why not address these issues? HMMM...either management don't know, management don't care or its easier to deal with a lawsuit then fix and address the problem....HMMM

It just so happens to be prom night. The Cafe is packed with shiny tuxedos and glittering evening gowns What a time to re-live old high school memories. P.S. while the meal and service was excellent, the atmosphere was ruined by the horrible crap techno music being forced on everyone. All tables in my area agreed that it was awful. The waitress could not change it of course, but this contributes to us cutting our meal short and leaving with near headaches. I hope the management listens to the customers wishes next time and chooses a better type of background music. Or nothing at all would beat the awful grind of techno music during dinner.

AWFUL, AWFUL, AWFUL. I cannot express how utterly disappointed I was with my experience at the Grand Lux Cafe. Sadlu, it was not the food or the service that made the experience so awful it was the atmosphere of the restauarant. We were seated next to a large party, that was loud and bousteroious without any regard for there neighbors. They kept bumping out table as they tried to get out of their seats. Then they kept asking when we were going to leave, so they could have our table. The manager aplogized and moved us, but sadly it didnt improve anything. It felt as we had walked into an urban club, with just trashy people dining there. I WILL NEVER GO BACK!
Matt68
Never going back. Last time my chicken was still raw, the time before they forgot my order. Very overpriced for average food.
Cisdansouth
Great food hands down. I haven't tried the breakfast yet but love everything else. Better than cheesecake factory.
JoeCallahanRealEstate.com
Very Good. Great spin-off Cheese Cake Factory. Very well done.

Great food!! The Chop House Burger is on of the best burgers in town. 10oz angus burger on a buttered bun. Rich! Also one of the best breakfast meals is their Caramel Banana Nut French Toast. Its only available on weekends for brunch. Both dishes were about $11 ea. Worth it!!!
Angel Henneman
GREAT. Can't speak about everything on the menu, but the seafood salad is the greatest. Especially in these hot days.
Falecia Milburn
They have a great happy hour. The food is delish, prices are great and the drinks are great. But get there early because seating is limited!
Allison Houser
Cheesecake Ripoff. I mean it is exactly the same as Cheesecake Factory but a little more expensive. They really amount to the same. I was just very disappointed that I paid 17 dollars for pasta that did not wow me. Sure it was good but I could have made it at home for much cheaper. Service is pretty good though. And of course the bread before the meal is the best part. I think that is really the only I go to the Cheesecake Factory and probably the only reason I would go back here.
Andre Lewis
Excellent cheesecake
Cory
Never have I been dissapointed in anything here...from the service to the food. Huge portions, wear elastic waistbands!!
Austin Plyley
Beautiful decor lines the inside of the restaurant. When my dad and I came here we did not know what we were expecting to get, but then the menu added the comforting words of "associated with the cheesecake factory" and I suddenly knew everything would be ok. The food was fantastic as was the service, and I recommend the red velvet pancakes as they were very satisfying! 5 out of 5
KhaliB
The decor is warm and beautiful, the service is awesome from all staff, from the front door hostess to the back bus boy. You definitely have to come hungry because you get fresh large flavorful portions
Ezy Mny
Not bad for a chain restaurant. The food is hit or miss and overpriced

Last Meal. As a party of two entering the restaurant at 5:45 we were seated in a timely manner by our waitress. She rushed us to order then rushed us to leave. Perhaps because we were a party of two women?
Sean M.
Great food and incredible deserts. My wife and I love GLC. The portions can be a bit gigantic at times, but it really all depends on how hungry you are when you arrive. I absolutely love the devils chicken, I normally stay away from mashed potatoes when I go out to eat because most of the time they are just some instant flake concoction, but that is far from the case at GLC, I can't get enough of them. I always finish off my meal with the bread pudding which is totally 100% amazingly delecious! The strawberry shortcake is very tasty as well. Overall the GLC is a great place to spend your money, for the price of the dishes the portions are much more then what you would expect to recieve. I've never personally experienced anything but great service when dining here. If you haven't been, it's definitely worth a shot.
Chitown Critique
Slow, loud, and banging. The service is great but they run out of choices often, which is amazing based on the number of choices on their menu! The atmosphere is great if you don't mind the noise. The fact that this place is in the Cheesecake Factory is not lost as their desserts are good and some are even baked from scratch. the food comes in large portiions, but only a few dishes are big on flavor (which is why they run out of the ingredients to them often). when you eat here be ready for a doggy bag!
Fran Cooper
So many choices!. They have everything you could imagine here and it all looks and tastes fabulous
Claudia Sander Garnett
Mediterranean Mahi Mahi is delicious!
Carol Hoskins-Burks
I love this place. Crab and asparagus omellete and Sangria Blanco is calling me back!
Apollo
The food and portion size is always consistent. Be carefully of slow service and high priced entrees.
Katzzam
Yes GRAND, but.... It is grand, loud, luxurious, so many selections.... The waitstaff is always great, the food is wonderful, the portions so big. I love the decor and the atmosphere; so classy and elegant, but it seems that it has also attracted some not so classy people of late. More and more when I go there now I feel outnumbered and out of place. I like the bar, good drinks, but might not rush for the dining as much.
BAggie
Wow.. Great food, from appetizers all the way through the end.
Carol
I like the food, specially the Mongolian beef, but I have to say that the fresh baked Apple pie is the best ever! So light that you can eat nonstop!!
Ams85
Too much. Ugh, this place is so over-the-top. Huge and cavernous and impersonal. I would not call this a "fine dining" restaurant. The menu has WAY too many options, yet they seem to pride themselves on this. Who needs 100+ options? Paradox of choice! Overall, a very tacky place. The food, of course, is not bad -- it's what you would expect from something so cookie-cutter.
Me Linda O'Neill
Great food. When I'm in town and don't feel like cookin, I will walk over to GLC for dinner.
Carlitasway13
They have a dessert bar! Need I say more? But seriously, when you feel like being a kid and skipping the main meal and going straight for a big dessert, this is definitely the place. Love the New Orleans Beignets!
Cameron Crabtree
They have every thing very good
Jan Sylvester
The atmosphere is good...the food was very nice and priced well for what you get.

Grand Lux. First went here with a friend of mine after church and it became one of usuals! I went here for my birthday last year and told a lot of friends and now they are hooked. Everyone loves the chicken pot pie - it is the best comfort food! If you like to drink - the blanco sangria is wonderful!
MZ DUP
Chicken Pot Pie. I recently went there for my birthday and it was great. The have good food, drinks and atmosphere. The best is the chicken pot pie. It is great! I had the shrimp scampi but kept looking over at my brothers pot pie. I had to have a bite and once I did I know I will have that the next time I go.

The Grand Lux Café in Houston’s Galleria (a product of the Cheesecake Factory) reminds us of one of those television cooking contests, where the chefs are asked to put a modern spin on classic favorites. They have such menu items as Double Stuffed Mashed
