Review Stanton's City Bites - Houston

Pretty cool historic spot with so many delicious-sounding options. I dug in before even taking my first photo of my meal. I got the Blue Moon, which was their blue cheese burger. It was my first time eating a burger with blue cheese, and it was an interesting flavor combo. Fries were awesome, no complaints. I will come back and try something else on their menu. I’d love to try their lighter, healthier options next.

The burger was good but I couldn't eat it all because it was greasy making the bun soggy but the onion rings were most delicious. I would recommend maybe a roll of paper towels on every table. The staff was super friendly and upbeat which was very nice. The establishment was clean including restrooms and the ambiance was excellent for a place that started in 1961, vintage everywhere making for interesting conversation before our meal. The place was packed obviously a local legend.

Been coming for several years. Very glad they have been able to stay in business past the pandemic. Food is great, for a great price. Get the tater tots.

The Chipotle burger was awesome! All burgers live up to their size and pictures, definitely top notch burgers in Houston and great price. Can't go wrong with Tater tots

Delicious burgers with halal option!! Highly recommend!! Note: Just make sure to find a proper parking place when going as there aren't many spaces available.

Excellent burger! The fried pickles were heavy on bread, but nice and crunchy with a great pickle flavor. Overall everything was awesome. The burger had great flavor and a nice crust to it while staying moist. It is not a smash burger but it’s clearly a flattop burger. Bacon was crunchy and juicy. I really don’t have any complaints. I can’t wait to bring back some more friends and family. Clean and homey little spot with a super friendly staff as well! Prices were right on point and it will not break your bank, just your belt!

Great place to grab a fantastic burger, they have so many choices and unusual options for toppings. I had the Spicy Chipotle with bacon cheese fries and vanilla, orange cream soda. Street only parking is pretty scarce.
Angy mendoza
many options for drinks, style of burgers. Everything was delicious service was great and overall loved the retro dining atmosphere.

Its a burger spot in a real old building, with a somewhat diner like setting. Burgers are satisfactory and I enjoy experimenting with unique burgers they have. Nothing to write home about, but also nothing to complain about.

My friend had recommended this spot and I finally made it. The girl behind the counter recommended the cowboy brunch burger and it was amazing! I barely ate anything today and I inhaled it. I would hands down order it again. I was expecting an average burger and it definitely superseded my expectations. I also got egg rolls because they have egg rolls on the menu. Also a surprisingly perfect combo for a burger side. I would recommend getting three packs of duck sauce for any of you saucy people out there. I also got barbecue sauce on the side with my burger because I don’t eat mayonnaise usually. I’m really happy with my choices today. They also have Mexican cokes, so all in all, you must eat here. The decor is so cute too!

Excellent customer service. I ordered on DoorDash and accidentally had forgot to remove the bacon from my burger. I guess from my name he was able to tell that I come from a background that doesn’t eat pork and so thoughtfully called to check if I would like to remove the bacon I thought this was extremely thoughtful and honestly something I would not expect from most restaurants not to mention the food is excellent here burgers are juicy and the fries are nice and crispy love. This place will continue to eat here for as long as I live in Houston.

Such a nostalgic mom and pop feel worth great service and great burgers

Visited Stanton’s this weekend. This place was recommended by a friend and let me tell you it did no t disappoint. My burger was the spicy chipotle burger. One of my favorite things from this burger is that it had jalapeños in the bun. i love spicy stuff. That gave it a really good flavor. I had the Italian fries. i really enjoyed these because usually Italian fries have the parmasean cheese more grated, and this was shredded so i could taste the flavor more. My boyfriend got the the original bacon cheeseburger with the Cajun fries. Over alll, the food was really good. The restaurant was cute and vintage. Would definitely eat here again.

This has to be one of the best burgers I have had in years. We also love the fried pickles. I am not much of a fried person, but I love the pickles. The burgers are handmade and are a good size. This is one happy customer...

The most amazing burgers you can get! Juicy burgers, fresh buns and the top notch garnishes! They also have amazing turkey burgers too. And the place is owned by an incredible nice and sweet family! What's not to love?

Always a pleasure to visit this place. I’ve been coming to this burger spot since it was a store and it still doesn’t fail. Great burgers and fries. Burger 8.3/10. Onion rings are 8.2/10. Fries are 7.6/10. Bread pudding 7.8/10. If they were to switch the bread or toast the bread would bump it up.

One of the best burger spots in Houston. The price for what you get is not touchable by most burger spots. But regardless of cost, the taste of their burgers is excellent. I even like their club sandwiches too! My only constructive feedback would be to have a dedicated spot for online ordering pickup with a sign so folks know where to go. Oftentimes you end up standing behind someone taking a while to order and I'm just here waiting in line to pick up my order that's been sitting on the back counter the whole time.

Great selection of burgers, salads, with different types of fries, onion rings and tots. The also have some vegan options. The drink cooler has a mix of local favorites along with a few beers. This is a great spot for lunch. Parking is limited during the week. On the weekend there are a few businesses that are closed that you can park at.

This chipotle burger is absolutely next level! Cooked to perfection and the flavors are well balanced. Highly recommend coming here for an experience from the 60s.

This review is based off first of a first impression. When we walked in through the doors around lunch time we were warmly greeted by the staff. Their menu is easy to read and prices are clearly marked. My significant other and I both ordered the Miss Piggy and a basket of their waffle fries. The burger patty was superbly cooked, not overly done or too rare. The candied bacon was a definite treat! The waffle fries were fantastic - light and crispy and not overly seasoned. The overall taste of the burger was sweet and savory. I would highly recommend this burger to anyone that loves bacon. Great food, great staff, and great experience!

Let me start by saying the food was good. It was the service that was terrible and why I would not recommend going to this restaurant. The workers and their customer service were subpar at best. They were not nonchalant and non-caring about any request for anything or any urgency to fulfill any request by any customer. The person who greeted us could have cared less that we had two handicapped people with us. One of these handicapped people was my brother-in-law who just had brain surgery last week and had a desire for a good burger. We just expected with a good burger there would be some modicum of good service. We were sorely disappointed. In the words of the manager verbatim “since your tourists you aren’t likely to come back,so what does it matter what you think”. That should give you some idea of what I experienced in my visit to this restaurant. I would not recommend it. I would highly discourage anyone from ever visiting.

Well I was their for the 1st time .. as I have heard they have Halal options and they are really good in burgers .. so me and my husband went for the lunch their my husband had a monster burger, when was good BUT I had a chillie cheese burger which was I think not my type I don't blame them but yes I ask the girl on the counter to recommend me something really good in their menu.. so it was. A petty gravy lots of gravy with Mustard sauce Burger .. so I didn't like at ALL, I removed everything from the bun and just eat their petty.. cuz I was hungry Well onion rings was oily so I taste only one.. BUT Fries was OMG !! If you are a fries lovers than this is the best place .. according to the Price total honestly I wouldn't recommend anyone cuz their are lot more good options for beef Burgers in Houston
Picado Art
The best burger spot in Houston, it's worth the 35min drive every time. The burgers have so much taste and the food is ALWAYS fresh! All the french fries are good too.

Delish fresh meaty burgers with so many options I had the Holy cow burger 🍔 it was great. I also had the chili cheese French fries n it was real home made meaty chili on the fries ample portion that I could not eat all of the fries

This is the best burger in town...i highly recommend this awesome place ..to all my friends...

I’m not impressed. First of all the girl that took my order could not pay attention to any thing I said. I asked for the bacon cheeseburger with no bun, a cup of chili and a bottle of water. She repeated it as a classic cheeseburger with fries and asked if I wanted anything to drink. I corrected her and paid. I received a bowl of chilli and a bacon cheeseburger with the bun. I was very impressed with ththe chilli but not the burger.

Great burgers, and a great staff! Have to make my way through the options on the menu, but the fundamentals - burger, bun, and what's called "salad stuff" - are solid and consistently great. You can tell the ownership cares about high standards here!

I had Cowboy Brunch and my wife had mushroom & Swiss burger. We split 1 order of fries. This was our lunch and I doubt we will be hungry for dinner. Good portions, very good food and a simple neighborhood atmosphere.

My wife says there must be a direct conduit from heaven and angels are making these burgers and sending them down. We haven't found a better burger in Houston yet.

This is one of my favorite burger places. I love the retro vibe and the good ole, no frills, classic hamburger. They have other choices but you can't go wrong with The Classic. My husband is not a meat eater and they have non-meat choices. He enjoys their Portabella Mushroom Sandwich. Good beer selection and prices, too.

The burger and fries were awesome! Fountain drinks would have pushed this place over the top! Can't wait to go back!

Awesome place that harkens back to an earlier time. Great prices as well as great food. The chili was amazing!!

I used Google Maps & it was really easy to find. Not a whole lot of options for parking, but I parked down the road a little way & it was fine. I had the Luke Skyburger w/regular fries & it was SO good! It has a diner feel to it, the food came out hot, & the environment was awesome. Can't wait to go back & try something different!
James Chambers
The food is great! A must try if you are in Houston!
Michelle Hines
Just a great burger! Traditional or specialty, you won't be disappointed.

This Houston hole in the wall was a great stop for lunch. The restaurant’s interior was charming and made me feel as if I was stepping into a 1950s diner. The food was outstanding and I was surprised by the variety of food that this burger joint offered up. Stanton’s has fried shrimp, chicken, sandwiches, egg rolls, and so much more. The restaurant also has some great vegetarian sandwich options. Make sure you stop by Stanton’s the next time you’re in Houston.

Passed by many times. Always thought it was just a sandwich place. Turns out they have many amazing burgers, fast and friendly service, and a good selection of bottled beer. Highly recommend for lunch or dinner in the near downtown area.

Best burger in the game. Everything is made fresh. Even their salads and chicken sandwiches are prepared exceptionally well. I've lost all self control here.

Love this place. Best burger in the area. Big juicy patties. Atmosphere is crazy simple, but does not detract from the food. Go here to let your arteries harden.

Halal. I was very pleased with their turkey burger. I never get turkey burger, but theirs was super flavorful. Large variety in menu options I think. Nice decor. Very small parking, like 4 cars only.

Best burgers in Houston. I try to go there at least once a month. The bacon cheeseburger is to die for. I hope my cardiologist isn't reading this.
Zain's Halal Reviews
American place serving halal burgers, chicken patties, hot dogs, chilli, and chicken tenders. This review is from 2013. Been going back ever since. Click below for full review...
Best Old School cook out Burger in Houston. This is the best burger in houston. Its a back yard cook out bbq burger place. Its focus is on the burgers. They are a bit pricey for size but a great deal for quality. This is not a location you come to expecting fancy service with waitstaff, it was originally a market that started selling food. Hence the decor. If you want a great burger this is the spot!

Enjoying a ground pork ground beef burger with bacon on top for lunch (it's called a Miss Piggie). With Chili Cheese Tots.

This place has a tiny kitchen and everything is made to order so kick back and chill.

Parking around here blows big time: try not to get towed.

Questions! Questions!. This is NOT a review, per se. But after reading these reviews I find so much disparity that it begs one to wonder why. So many raves about the great tasting burgers and the size of them as well. Then on the flip side, just as many people state they are the worst and smallest they've ever had. Guess there's only on way to find out. To be continued....

I agree with Molly Smith's review! I took a co-worker there on Friday and the burgers were over cooked, greasy (not in the good way!), very small, and the place was dirty. I also CANNOT believe they charge for a cup of ice. That's nickle and dimming people at it's worst! Obviously, they are desperate for money!
There are way too many great burger places in this town to ever go back to that dump! I wish we would of read Molly's review before we wasted our money on this place. Btw- if you're going to charge for a cup of ice make sure the ice isn't frozen over and old. Geez!

HURRY BACK!. Located north of Houston on Houston Street. ABSOLUTELY BEST turkey burger I have ever eaten! I had to dbl ck that it was turkey and not beef. The bread was a work of art. Sweet potato fries were perfect. My friend had a burger with sautéed spinach, mushrooms, and DEEP FRIED BACON. She broke some off for me to sample. Wow! Clean, friendly, unassuming, place. The owner has a passion for cooking good food. The prices were good. I prefer bottle water to tap and $1 is cheap (recently paid $3 at movie theater).

This was the first burger place where I didn't regret just going to BK so, for me, that's a darn good compliment for a burger. I am going to try one of each of the many varieties on the menu. Everything described on the menu made it hard to decide. You can't go wrong.

I found this place after reading positive reviews. I got the burger advertised for 5 dollars. It was one of the worst hamburgers I have ever eaten. Burger King serves a better burger! First, I went to sit down and asked for a cup of water and the owners says the only water we have is bottled water and its 1 dollar. I figured if I was going to pay for my drink I'll get a coke. I ask for a cup of ice and she says that's 50 cents. ( I should of gotten up and walked out at that point ). I get the cup of ice and the ice is frozen over. I needed a knife just to break up the cup of ice. ( did I mention it was 50 cents?). Anyway, I get my burger and realize it is so small. I guess that's why it's 5 dollars. I bite into it and the bread has so much butter from the grill it's soggy and the meat is so over cooked I'm in amazement that this place was voted best burgers. After all, that's why I decided to eat here for lunch. I went up to pay and the 5 burger ended costing me 10dollars. I ended up ordering fries and the drink.
I will never go back!

Monster Burger. Very good and huge burger with all the works. The meat is perfectly seasoned with just the right mixture of flavor and texture. The great thing about the burger has to be the bread roll. Sounds crazy but its not a cheap roll or crazy fancy bruschetta infused bread. If I had to go back I would definitely order a 1/2lbs with the egg on it. Not to mention they actually have really good customer service. Best burger in town by far.

Very friendly owners, delicious and fresh burgers and awesome selection of beers! Really enjoyed it.

We tried this place because of the high rating from Urban Spoon. I'm so glad we went! What a great find!! The burgers were great. We had onion rings and sweet potato fries and they were great too!!!!!!

Unfortunately, Not So Super. This place is unique and the family that owns/runs the place are very nice people that have been here for a long time. Unfortunately, the food is barely passable. The base burger (bacon cheese) and the spicy chipotle both have no ooze although the meat patties do have a reasonable meat flavor. The Philly cheese steak is really strange and dry. The Cajun spice fries are pretty standard fare and the "homemade" onion rings featured a bitter batter. I really wanted to like this place, but....

Possibly the best turkey burger ever. Awesome chipotle burger and unbelievable sweet potato fries. Love this place!

Best Burger!. This is the best burger that I have ever paid for. All the condiments are fresh, the bun is nicely toasted on both sides and the meat is hand formed and seasoned to perfection! The guy running the place is very nice too.

Five Star Burgers in a One Star Shack. This hole in the wall joint conjures up the tastiest and most filling burgers within Houston's Washington Ave. area. A little inside knowledge is required to locate this spot as it is inside a convenience store and can very easily be looked over. The seating consists of only one bench table, but these burgers can be ordered ahead of time and made to go. A personal favorite is the Portabello Mushroojm Burger, also known there as the PMS.

Like it a lot. Art (the owner) is very personable and savvy in the food world. this is reflected in their food.
you will not find a better or bigger burger for the price.
the pork chop sandwich is awesome as well.
i feel i am doing a disservice by not trying more of their stuff, but how can i experiment when the base burger is so good?
Jim
Possibly the best cheeseburger in town.
