Great BBQ Joint. We ventured into Houston to visit Gatlin's BBQ for brunch and of course we ordered the off-menu breakfast brisket biscuit ... very good and filling. The brisket was moist and tasty ... not as smokey as I like it but my wife said it was perfect. Really good people at the front running this thing ... very friendly. I love a good BBQ place that also has friendly faces. Nice job Gatlin's! We'll have to revisit for a ribs, turkey and sausage.
Excellent food. The meat, barbeque sauce, potato salad, cucumber salad and baked beans were so delicious. The spicy sausage was fantastic. The restaurant is very clean. The service was excellent.
Good food, nice folks, great atmosphere. I gave it 4/5 because this is Texas and BBQ is king. It is good but I probably wouldn't go back until I tried more spots.
It it worth a try though if you have never been. People are very nice here.
Me and my family visited Gatlin bbq today and it felt right at home. The food was cooked to perfection, the customer service was amazing and we had a wonderful time just eating and enjoying the ambiance of the restaurant. Mama came out and gave great suggestions of the best items on the menu to try. We ordered the ribs, brisket, smoked turkey salad, and the moist, tender, and flavorful brisket. We were very satisfied, and this place is a great spot if you want some of the best bbq in Houston.
On my trip around the world we’re in Houston, TX. I had the brisket rib plate with macaroni and fried okra as the sides. From the picture you can see that’s a huge rib. It was burnt on the outside and more fatty than meat. The sides were initially cold but they fixed them again with no problems. Customer service was superb and the atmosphere was very laid back and chilled. Being from Memphis would I come again maybe 7/10. You guys go check it out for yourselves.

So I had a taste for some good BBQ, and boy did I find a jewel within this place!! Nice establishment, with a very ambient atmosphere. Excellent service, and great ownership/leadership. I ordered the 3 meat combo plate, with smoked brisket, ribs, and venison sausage, with collard greens, cornbread, and dirty rice. My wait time to be served after placing my order was about 7 to 8 minutes, which was quick. When I got my plate and sank my teeth into those ribs, THEY WERE FALL OFF THE BONE GRRRREAT!! When the bone comes out of a rib with no meat stuck to it, YOU GOT PERFECTION!! The brisket was moist, not dry at all, and very tender. The venison sausage had great flavor, and still holding juice. The greens were tender and well seasoned, as was the dirty rice. If you come to Houston, GUARANTEED YOU GOTTA COME HERE FOR THE BEST BBQ IN TOWN!! HANDS DOWN!! The food was so good, I had to give praises to Mama Gatlin herself, and tell her what a wonderful job they have done with this establishment.
A good bit of variety to choose from with meats and sides. Also a decent amount of option from plates/sandwich combos. The brisket was very tender and can be cut with a plastic fork! Loved the yams, dirty rice, and fried okra too.
Our daughter-in-law came with my wife and I to this smoky meat palace and we're sure glad we did! Everything we tried was the best of the best. we got the three meat plate with two sides and got an extra meat. The moist end brisket...the lady that took our order asked me to specify....most places leave it up to you but you have to request it....here they ask up front...love that. The brisket had tons of flavor and almost fall apart tender, in my top 2 or 5 all time, this is the good stuff people. The St. Louis style pork ribs were in the top two....that good. The turkey was in that same stellar class of tastiness. We got a link of their fine traditional sausage which was 5 stars as well. The plate came with 2 small containers of their BBQ sauce, they only do one kind but they do it well.....this 'Q don't need no sauce anyway. The sides were just as amazing as the 'Q. The fried okra being on the menu helped us decide on this awesome joint over another highly rated 'Q place, the okra was 5 stars. Our daughter-in-law loves tater salad and their version hit all our spots....down to the last bite....everything we got disappeared. We'll be back for more with our son. This is a little distance from our house but well worth the drive....road trip!
second visit....This was our second visit and the food was not as awesome as our first. My wife and I shared a three meat plate with two sides. The sliced moist end brisket was just a three star....enough fat but it was dry and too chewy to rate higher, the pulled pork was 5 stars especially to my wife, great taste and tender, the ribs were four stars, great flavor and again a little too dry to make the 5 star cut. The collard greens were just 3 stars, this is a side my wife really likes and she didn't eat much of it. The fried okra was 5 stars, crunchy on the exterior and this disappeared quickly. The Katz iced tea, unsweet for us, hit the spot. It would be nice if they brought back salt and pepper containers for each table instead of a plastic bag of throwdown utensils with little salt n pepper packets.
I like the style of ordering as individuals rather than trying to guess how much you need for your whole party. It was very tasty. Nothing was a big standout although the baby back ribs were definitely tasty. The second dining room was very cold but the staff tried to adjust the temperature. Great service and easy to find. Would recommend if you are looking for authentic BBQ taste but more of a restaurant experience.
Barbecue was overall pretty good and the options for sides was really nice. Food came out pretty fast and it wasn't too bad for barbecue made in *Texas*. Ribs, baked beans, and venison sausage stood out
