Review The Chocolate Bar - Houston

Nate Church
This place smelled fantastic, tasted amazing, is in a great location, and had wonderful service. If you have even the slightest sweet tooth, this is a place you will absolutely want to visit in Houston - whether on vacation or merely visiting. They have tons of options, variety of choices, and some unique items that I’ve never seen anywhere else. You won’t regret stopping by!

Very neat place. We stopped by after looking up dessert places near us. The in-house made chocolates are great. The in-house made pies and cakes are great. Just share them with a friend or you’ll end up on a serious sugar rush!! Absolutely LOVED the Tres Leches!! The chocolate cake was dry and just ok. Recommendation for the Chocolate Bar staff... make a Pick 2 or Pick 4 Sampler (with 2 or 4 items) just smaller slices so people can try more flavors.

Went here after a birthday at torchy's. The desserts here are great. If you like chocolate you need to check it out. If you go later in the evening you can get half priced fruit and it is really good.

The Chocolate Bar is a place I have gone to few times(probably about my 6th time now) but it is one I will definitely go to again. They offer a VAST assortment of chocolate treats, cakes, and ice cream. The quality of these chocolate products are amazing and worth every penny. I really have nothing negative to say about this place except that I wish there were MORE locations. And if you want to give your dog a super good treat well they even sell quality dog treats for your best friend. Will definitely be going back.

I first visited the Chocolate Bar a few months ago and have since been back on several occasions. The inside has always been clean, orderly, and well stocked. Even the employees have been on point when I've dropped in. The ice cream was especially tasty but the pecan praline bars (can't remember what exactly they were called) were to die for. Next time I'm in the area I'll get my sugar fix here for sure.

this place is great! if you’re like me and you have just an endless sweet tooth, you’ll be happy here! I got a slice of the Uncle Darrel’s cake, and it was *massive*- they serve it in a to go box though, cause it’s hard to finish in one sitting. my fiancé got a scoop of the mint ice cream with Andes bars in it, and it was fantastic! I’m not usually that big into mint ice creams, but this was fantastic- I might have to come back and get it for myself! additionally we got some of their $3 specialty chocolate bars, to test out the chocolate, and it was fantastic. the staff as well, though very busy, was all super friendly and had some wonderful suggestions! the parking lot is pretty small; just a row out front, which is shared with other storefronts on either side. even though we came at a pretty busy time though, we didn’t have any trouble finding a spot.

The place is beautiful, lots of delicious chocolate in every shape and form! Gray and original chocolate gifts! It's just extremely expensive! No matter how good... it's still overtly priced.

Some of the best rich tasting cakes. They have a wide variety of desserts and sweets to choose from. The serving sizes are enormous.

The cake was amazing, there's so many choices. We got German chocolate and a three layer chocolate cake, and they were perfect. Super rich and super spongy. On the other side of the shop they have tons of chocolate trinkets as well. It's all around a really great shop, definetly worth the drive if you're like me and you don't live near by. The only downside I can see is the parking lot, it's quite small but there's plenty of places you can park and walk nearby

Love this place! Can't remember what cake this was but their chocolate cakes are to die for! The cake slices are expensive but huge and very worth it! Often, my wife and I struggle to finish one together. Further, the staff is friendly, place is clean and they have delicious cakes and coffee. The inside also has a very trendy vibe and a great place to take a picture with the neon sign I have pictured below. Highly recommend for your next dessert outing.

I used to love it, but the last time I went in, my favorite flavor was no longer available, and the offerings are no longer all chocolate. The new management is changing everything that made the brand unique - now it’s just another ice cream and dessert place, so no reason not to go to Ben and Jerry’s. Now, if they bring back Orange Sunrise, I might consider returning.

Well, here we are, some of Houston & The Woodlands top food critics. Our lunch today was below par at Cyclone Anaya’s, however we are now having the best dessert at THE CHOCOLATE BAR on West Alabama Today, we have tried the black Russian cake, junkyard ice cream, and a cherry amaretto ice cream and I’m deliriously in love with this place Who wants to help me open one of these in the Woodlands? We are so ready for a Heavenly place like this in the Woodlans, Texas... Don are you listening ? lol

The Chocolate Bar has lost the very thing that made it a unique niche and great experience. Gone is the Chocolate Red Velvet cake. Slowly, they are phasing out the chocolate with every day sweets you can get anywhere. I will no longer drive over 30 miles to visit this place. Bad move.....Nothing makes this place special anymore. Chocolate Pecan pie will change to just pecan pie. They've introduced carrot cake and I have had better from a grocery store chain. Also new are the Strawberry Cake, Wedding Cake, Vanilla Ice Cream. The wedding cake was just ok. Why phase out the chocolate? I'm confused Please change the name as this is no longer a chocolate bar

I came today, drove for 25mins from energy corridor. And Triple Decadence is gone! What?????? Was soooo disappointed. And there’s all kinds of weird new flavors, like green tea? If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! The store felt so different . I felt so bad after bragging to my niece that I was taking her to have the best ice cream in the whole world. Even the regular stuff didn’t taste the same. Pleeeeeeaaaassseee bring #theoriginalchocolatebar back! Please.#heartbroken

The changes are awful. The ice cream flavors have changed and are rather tasteless and the cakes look dry. New management is ruining this place.

Make it a point to visit every time I’m in town. Favorite chocolate bar with best desserts. Aunt Etta’s chocolate cake is awesome. Latte was also great :)

Extremely disappointed. I have been going to the Kirby location for years for the excellent ice cream. Today, I see they did away with all the original flavors. The espresso new version is a joke! Almost none have nuts and the ice cream is like a bad imitation of Blue Bell ice cream with crappy chocolate chips. Won’t be returning.

Went here to celebrate my birthday and all I can say is - what in the world happened here? My wife and I would bring friends and family here for a unique and exceptional truly Houston experience. Now there is vanilla ice cream, strawberry cake, empty shelves. Even the fun little lavender-colored spoons are missing and have been replaced by generic, can-buy-these-anywhere spoons. It's like going into Whataburger and seeing that they are serving Whoppers and Big Macs but no longer selling fries or shakes. Plus, we are three and a half weeks away from Easter and there is no Easter candy anywhere in the store. If this is someone's new idea on how to run a chocolate shop, it is not a good one. Reminds me of The Sopranos when they ran Robert Patrick's sporting goods store into the ground just to squeeze out every last penny they could. So very sad to see yet another great Houston institution fall by the wayside.

I loved the place and so did my husband and 8 year old son. My son's mouth was hanging open at all the delicious choices in cake, ice cream and chocolates. The staff was very friendly and kind. We got two pieces of cake and a milkshake. My husband said he picked the wrong flavor for milkshake (chocolate peanut butter with Nutter Butter) and wouldn't choose it again. The cakes were delicious. We got a big piece of chocolate layer cake and a slice of bayou mud pie that was to die for. Both pieces were too big to finish off in one sitting so we took them home for the next day. Still just as good. I would happily go back.

It was my first time. We tried the White Russian cheesecake and let me tell you it was to die for, probably the best cheesecake I have ever had! Will definitely be back.

Stopped in yesterday to get a slice of the night and day cake, however I was informed they no longer carried it.. I was devasted I assume the gentleman helping me was the owner or manager, he told me to pick something else out and it would be on him.. I asked him what his favorite was and he suggested uncle Daryl's.. It definitely isn't the night and day cake but it was really good! Thank you so much!

I was very loyal to the Chocolate Bar brand - but then the company stopped being loyal to its own products (and customers). RIP: Snowberry, Creamy Dreamy Truffle, Orange Sunrise ice creams

I'm very disappointed with the new owners. I went in a couple weeks ago to get a slice of my favorite cake (Night and Day) only to find out they don't make it anymore. The store felt empty. The selection of desserts felt sparce. The addition of non chocolate desserts felt out of place. Just not the same anymore. I hope they take these reviews to heart.

Customer service has gone downhill since the new owners. The place is not the same. I have gift cards, that the new registers will not accept. I have tried reaching the owner by email have left phone messages. They do not care about customer service. The offerings are different, not up to the old standards.

Drove from the NW side to The Village today to go to the chocolate bar for their great selection of nostalgic candy....the entire section was gone and had been replaced with additional empty tables! SO SAD....guess I will have one less stop when in Rice Village! #newown
