Truly the BEST burgers in town!!!
I have never had trouble eating a burger...until now. I had the grim burger, which is is now, my absolute favorite burger.
Forget the toppings: egg, jalapeño, bacon and cheese....the meat itself is delicious.
They do know how to fix a burger!!!
I’ll be back. There’s a whole menus I need to try!

Delicious Breakfast with Awesome Service
Our meal was hot and delicious. Coffee was so good. Service was excellent. Guy Fieri was right about this Diner, it needs to be on your bucket list!!
A casual restaurant, where the locals know to go, with friendly staff and great food is my very favorite kind of restaurant. Lankford Grocery has all this, plus it gets bonus points for being a hole-in-the-wall with a story. It’s easy, good and there is no special handshake required. You just walk in, find a table, order your food, pay at the counter and are on your way. Located in Montrose, this restaurant has giant garage doors, plywood floors, Food Network photos on the wall and is jam packed with customers.
Burger landmark with indoor and outdoor seating, old timey diner/dive feel, and outstanding burgers. Big portions, breakfast, and beer. Limited parking and off the beaten path, if you aren't familiar with your Montrose or Midtown backstreets, might be hard to find. But, worth it. 100%.
The burgers are good but we tend to enjoy the lunch specials more. Especially the fried chicken and great sides like greens. The service can be hit or miss and parking can be a challenge so don't go if you are in a hurry.
If you're in the mood for good food come here.. A 5 man group came here on my recommendation and all
of us us left pleasantly stuffed.. We ordered 2 westerns, a soldier, Cuban, Philly and a Grimm with tots and fries. It's just a burger joint right? NO.. It's a culinary experience. The different combinations they've come up with leave you wanting more. All of the burgers were perfectly cooked and the fries were the best I've had in a long time. Fries.. I'm talking about fries.. Yeah, good enough to mention.. The portions are not chincy at all.. The place was packed and I now know why. Great food with not so big prices. Sounds like a winner to me... I normally post pics but was so hungry from watching everything come out I put the camera down........
Just wondering, do you guys cater?? I just love the food, and couldn't think of anyone else I would want to cater a party. Please let me know as soon as possible. Thank you.....
This place had been on my radar for a while, when planning my visit, though I didn't really follow through until previous plans came apart. That being said i'm glad they did.
IT was an amazing little place (packed and busy like crazy), amazing burgers and home-made shakes. Great food and worth the stop, like their motto says, if you don't have 30 mins then you should go else where.
Try their staple, which is the Solider Burger, get the Onion Rings...massive and delicious, their south of the boarder burger has some good kick too, and these are not small meals.
We have nothing small, nothing healthy, and nothing fast. We never give you a check, but that does not mean its free. You pay at the register as you leave. If you do not have 30 minutes to spend, you should try us another day. We have great food, but its not fast food. Everything is made to order just like you like it!
Will be back and a must stop when in Houston.
This is a pretty famous casual dive lunch spot in the city. Only open for lunch on the weekdays so if you are in this part of midtown, head over. Burgers are their thing. I got the solider with fried egg, but yoke was over cooked so no runny gooey goodness to my burger today. Still a large portion burger with tons of toppings, finally enough pickles to let some fall off and not care. The tex mix of fried jalapeño strips and onion strips was very good, just the right mix and the strips weren't burn your mouth off hot.
Fun little burger joint in the middle of town. It's held onto its old school charm even as all the condos and apartments around it have been modernized. Burgers are pretty good with combos you normally wouldn't find. The one with Mac and cheese is surprisingly good and the brisket burger is VERY filling. Southwest burger is also good. For me the most "boring" burger was the double cheeseburger, it just tasted a little plain compared to other burgers I've had.
I love this place! I love that the building and atmosphere isn’t updated but it’s well maintained. It feels cozy and comfortable and we’re not even talking about the food yet. Everything I’ve eaten there is delicious. I feel like you can’t go wrong there. The employees are so nice, too. Always look forward to going here.
The burgers are delicious!! You can tell they are made the old fashion way can taste the difference between Lankford burgers and your typical burger place. The inside is full of old photos makes it feel very nostalgic. The waiters were friendly and they kept the great pace with only 2 of them working they took orders and brought food out in a timely manner. I love how everything is in its original state since they opened in 1937 I would only suggestion that they get portable air conditioning because I visited when temps reached 100 and although they have several huge fans it was still a little hot. But overall it's definitely worth visiting and the prices are great for 2 burgers, 3 lemonades, sweet potato fries, onion rings and apple cobbler was only $52 and the portions are shareable.

Most people know about the delicious burgers and tater tots at Lankford’s but they also have a great breakfast! When it’s good weather out, we walk over on the weekends and have breakfast on the dog friendly patio. The staff is always very friendly and the food is great! The avocado toast is tasty and I love the biscuits and gravy.
I've been here twice and each time the food has been to my liking.
I've had a burger and a chicken sandwich a long with onion rings curly fries tatortots and I've ordered the fried pickles both times.
The fried pickles are so darn good. They're always crispy and coated well.
The burger I got was a normal bacon cheeseburger with and egg. They're pretty big so honestly if you're trying to eat "healthy" one is enough for two people.
I got the California chicken sandwich with the cilantro dressing on the side. The dressing is very good but the chicken was heavily seasoned with mostly just black pepper and it was very overpowering. I probably would ask them for less pepper if I ordered it again.
The fries have all been crispy so I really enjoy that.
It's a small restaurant so seeting can be hard during peak times. They do have out door seating but during this hot weather you have to avoid it. Would probably be a better experience to sit outside during cooler weather. The three days of the year that we have some.
I haven't eaten enough dishes to decide if this is a must eat spot however I would definitely come back to keep trying other dishes and that alone speaks volumes.
I wanted to add they're currently not accepting cards however they have pretty much all other payment methods available like zelle venmo paypal just to mention a few so this shouldn't be an issue.
Excellent service and better than average food. The kids had the chicken fingers with fries. Crispy chicken fingers and small somewhat crunchy fries. I ordered a burger with bacon, cheese and a fried egg. Didn't even dawn on me, until later, that they left off the cheese. Decent flavor for what looked like a handmade patty. They do serve beer. Will go again to try the breakfast. Limited hours. They were closing at 3pm the day we went.
Best burgers in Texas! Service was great! Food was great! LGBTQ+ friendly! Will be returning, highly recommend
Established in 1937, Lankford grocery is a family owned Houston staple that has been featured on Diners, drive-ins, and dives with Guy Fieri. While there is a vast selection of burgers, you can also come for breakfast to try out dishes ranging from huevos rancheros to biscuits and gravy. While this place was formerly cash only, I can report that they are now accepting cards.
Food: There are several favorites, but I came for the firehouse burger. With their house made habanero sauce, patties drizzled in cayenne butter, and ample sliced jalapeños this burger brings the heat! If that's what you enjoy, then this burger is for you. This burger is discussed on the guy fieri episode. People have described the heat bringing tears of joy🥲 🔥
Service: Top notch and friendly. Very personal.
Atmosphere: The building is charming with its slanted walls and sagging beams. I would consider this fitting the dive category. It's an old structure for sure, but there is also decent outdoor seating. It's clean and well kept with nice comfy decor.
I just discovered the best burger in Houston! The Firehouse Burger at Lankford's is spicy hot and delicious. And, they have a whole new level of tater tots! Don't know how they do it, but they are crispy and really good.
Lovely little find of a neighborhood joint! Burgers, sandwiches, and other assorted lunches on the menu, including grilled or fried chicken sandwiches. Bottle and and can beers - great variety on hand. Had the fried chicken sandwich and an order of fries. The fried chicken sandwich wasn't particularly memorable, but the homemade fries were great! Will definitely come back to try the cheeseburger and other items on the menu. Friendly and helpful staff! Indoor and outdoor seating, sunny and shaded. Just an overall lovely neighborhood vibe!
