Review Artisans - Houston

Beautiful restaurant, friendly and incredible staff, and absolutely delicious food. It's pricey, but you get what you pay for and it's well worth the splurge. In particular the scallops were some of the best I've ever had, and the sirloin steak was absolutely delicious. Highly recommended!

A beautiful meal with an attentive, but not overly solicitous wait staff. We ordered from the Houston Restaurant Weeks menu. We started with the corn chowder and spinach and mushroom salad, both excellent. Our mains were the beef au poivre and pistachio crusted sea bass - fantastic. Desserts: pistachio frangipane and the petit choux pastry with ice cream. The frangipane was truly something special. The entire meal was filling, but not heavy, and while there was a bit of a delay between the main and dessert course, it was well worth it. The manager was charming and advised us that this was their last week at this location and they will be opening in the Galleria area in the Fall (expecting October).

came here for lunch I liked the place and I will come back again to try the other selections on the menu the tuna appetizer was amazing 👏 not only tasty but enjoyable bite , the escargot was perfect the main course we ordered the steak was little bit too sweet "sugar" we wished they didn't add Any sweet on the meat it self the seafood was on the point I enjoyed it . overall nice, romantic, great food add it to your wish list, must try .

Houston has some really excellent french restaurants, but this one is my favorite because the menu is much broader than the others. They have a lot of quintessential dishes like a fantastic lobster bisque. But they also have French influenced dishes. Service was spectacular as usual.

The atmosphere: quiet, private and Suttle. Perfect for couples wanting a vibrant fancy get away within the city of Houston. The food was cooked to perfection. Brought in a timely manner. The wine, the spirits delicious. Our waiter was very attentive of our needs. Staff all appeared well organized, and communicated well with one another while in the open kitchen area. Reserving a table was no hassle on the phone with Staff. Our meals, as pictured. We're delicious. The only concern we had was being charged twice for an item on the menu that was ordered once. We had a return call after closing time that this would be reimbursed. Unfortunately it was not. (This does not stop us from returning.) The establishment is well kept, and ran. We will be returning if God permits.

In my life long pursuit of love, food, and culinary excellence, I have not experienced anything quite like Chef Jaques Fox's Artisans. I had a life changing, palate blasting, gastronomical epiphany in the most elegant, authentic, and intriguing atmosphere. I enjoyed observing every move of these craftsmen and women from the chef's table. Their attention to detail is unmatched. I found their use of special extending lights to ensure excellent quality control of every dish fascinating. My scallops, paired with spinach ravioli and lobster cappuccino were so beyond the level of what I formerly called excellent. The Le Canon D’Agneau PoĂȘlĂ©, seared lamb loin, was requested "as rare as the chef prefers" and executed perfectly. By far the best preparation of lamb ever in my experiences... There was only one way to conclude this journey: the cappuccino, vanilla, CrĂšme BrĂ»lĂ©e du Jour and an espresso. My heart and belly are beyond full and I may not eat for a few days. I am reflecting deeply on this experience of course as I write this. I am confident my self imposed limits on the greatest levels of passion and love for this craft are no longer existent. Thank you Artisans.... (@palatehacker)

In short, amazing food and atmosphere. I loved every single thing I ordered. Their potato soup and cauliflower soup were amazing. I asked for the recipe and the chef came out to give me the recipe for the cauliflower soup. I have yet to try it at home but I doubt it’ll be that good. Everyone in our party seemed happy with their food. Thank you for a great experience! We will be back soon.

I've been a fan of Artisans for years, and this new location was drop dead gorgeous. The food it's delicious, the steak tartare its fantastic and the presentation so beautiful. The wine list and the wine selection by the glass are extraordinary. Ask them for pairing suggestions. Also, the desserts are little works of art and the best part its the service. Also, one of the best lobster bisques in the city

Wow! Just wow! First, there is valet parking available for $10. That's a great deal so take advantage of it. The interior of the restaurant is very nice and plush. The staff was amazing. The lobster bisque actually had a huge chunk of lobster in it which was amazing. The beef tar tar was great as well. Our main dishes were the ribeye which had caramelized sugar in top. I'd never had it prepared like that but it was great! The chicken and lobster were great as well. They make a really good old fashioned and the carajillo at the end of the meal was perfect. Will be back to check out their wine rooms.

This was an exciting first time tasting menu experience for me and my date! The service was just spectacular and the ambience was very romantic. I got the 6 course and my S.O. got the 7 course. It was probably a good idea to actually not have eaten before I went here because I could barely finish the 4th dish. My favorite out of all the dishes was the lobster bisque, scallops, the beef tenderloin and the dessert. The bisque was so smooth and delicate while the scallops was very tender. The beef tenderloin was a perfect medium rare and I loved every part of that dish from the fingerling potatoes to the green peppercorn sauce. The chocolate mousse was not too sweet and had such a soft texture to it. The other dishes were pretty good, too. For me, this would just be a once in a lifetime dinner.

Great dinner experience for Restaurant week. very filling and well executed with finesse. atmosphere is perfect for dates, service is awesome and fast. price is on high side which is not surprising if you take into account the talent involved

Loved the experience here i would highley Recommend this restaurant to anyone. Very, very authentic food as close as you can get to being in France while in Texas. I definitely love the new improved and secure parking they have along witha police officer on the property actively observing all our vehicles. I love the fact that it's only vallet at this restaurant because the amount of privacy and security given. I do not have to worry about my vehicle being vandalized.

This is one of the best restaurants I've been into in many many years. One of my favorite things to do is eat at very nice restaurants and this restaurant impresses me more than the rest. Plenty of parking in the garage attached to the building. I highly recommend you make reservations because it fills up on the weekends. They offer several different dining options. You can order the multi-course dinners which range from 100 to 150 and up per person. Or you can eat off the regular menu this is what I recommend. We started it off with a few other signature drinks which we all found absolutely refreshing. The amuse-bouche was a great start to our tour of French cuisine. We ordered lobster bisque and entrees. The lobster bisque complete with a lobster tail in the bisque was outstanding. It was the best lobster bisque I have ever had. And I've had many. They had a special of New Zealand venison that was amazing, cooked to the chef's recommendation. The Chilean sea bass was cooked and seasoned to perfection. The plating and presentation was impressive, the fish was absolutely divine. The New York strip and lobster were prepared better than I have ever had. I have never had a strip that was as moist and juicy and trimmed perfectly. For dessert we enjoyed the creme brulee the Apple tart and the pumpkin tart. Plated absolutely beautiful. Plan on spending 2 hours and enjoying yourself. I really recommend you take the opportunity to really dress up and make this a fine occasion. For an unforgettable dining experience I would expect to spend several hundred dollars, our dinner for four with tip was around $700. It was worth every penny and I will be going back soon.

First time here after my wife and daughter have already eaten here and wouldn't stop talking about this place. We came in for the lunch special. The staff is great but Gregory went above and beyond to make my little princess feel like a queen. He took care of us as if we were the only people in the place. The food lives up to its expectations. Started with a salad, extremely fresh, and then got the filet, cooked just right and the potatoes absorbed the French flavor. Great experience. Gregory is the best.

Place was absolutely top notch. Don’t really have much experience with French cuisine so we decided to get the 7 course dinner and I was blown away by every dish! Ambiance is really cool too with a place you can sit and watch them cook with a Great atmosphere and feel to it. Would definitely add this restaurant to your list of great French restaurants in Houston!

My evening at Artisan was delightful; the atmosphere was chic and relaxing. I especially enjoyed my pistachio-crusted Chilean Seabass. Many thanks to Raphael, the sommelier, and the severs. We had a great night and will reserve a seat at the chef's table again soon.

Our first visit was a special occasion. We enjoyed the Chef's 6 course meal and will be returning for the 9 course version. Excellent.
Sandra Clark
Such a lovely restaurant. The tasting menu was amazing, highly recommend. Everything was delicious and the atmosphere was great. Our server was great, and it was very cozy. The fact that this place is chef-owned only adds to how awesome it is. Would definitely recommend.

This is without a doubt the best French restaurant in Houston. I would recommend something on the menu but the truth is you cannot go wrong with any order. That being said, my favorite is peppercorn steak. I wish I could have it endlessly, a-la-brazilian steakhouse but not all dreams come true. The owner/Chef Fox is a delightful personality and they have some of the finest event dining I've had the pleasure of experiencing.

Artisans Restaurant is located in Midtown on the corner of Louisiana and Stuart St. I had heard so many great things about this restaurant that I couldn’t wait to experience it for myself. Chef Fox delivers the Chef’s Table concept to his restaurant and that is music to my ears. I believe everything tastes better when you enjoy it straight from the kitchen. The layout of this restaurant is exactly what I love to see. There are many different areas to enjoy your experience any way you see fit: a private room, a banquet room, tables, booths, bar and my favorite
the Chef’s Kitchen! In most places, this is usually a table in the back of the kitchen, but at Artisans it is a half-moon that wraps around the kitchen. Awesome! So, we sat right in the middle of the action because, in my view, a true culinary experience starts in the kitchen and then translates to your plate. The truly knowledgeable staff guided us through from start to finish. I enjoyed the interaction and explanations we received. Of course, we let the Chef know we would like the Chef’s choice. We always do this at fine dining establishments because it’s a great way to explore new taste combinations and dishes you might not otherwise choose. I discovered right away that the decision of leaving our selection up to Chef Fox was a smart one. We started the night off with a couple of specialty cocktails. We ordered the Park Avenue Martini – I am always in favor of a Gin martini – and this delicious pineapple-flavored Perfect Martini (Gin) was a great choice. It is an excellent drink to shake up a Martini routine and is nice on hot summer days or for a refreshing aperitif. We also ordered a Spicy Moscow Mule made with vodka, a splash of spicy ginger beer, and lime juice with a fresh slice of jalapeno. The bit of spice from the jalapeno was just the right touch. I loved them both. Our first plate of hors d’oeuvres was delivered and received with big smiles. What a wonderful start: a crostini with graddost cheese, marinated tomato and balsamic reduction. Simply a bite of heaven! Next up was Le Foie Gras: pan-seared Foie Gras, CrĂšme de Cassis Demi-Glace, Saffron Poached Pear, and Baklava. I am not a huge fan of Foie Gras, but like anything else, when done right it is wonderful. I can honestly say that the Foie Gras at Artisans is the best I have ever tasted. It was paired with a glass of Jurançon ‘Ballet d’Octobre’, Domaine CauhapĂ© 2012. Now for Les Noix de Saint-Jacques
pan-seared scallops, spinach ravioli, and beurre blanc served with lobster cappuccino and paired Paul Bouchard & Cie Chablis 2012, a Chablis produced in the northernmost wine growing region of Burgundy. Wow! Every flavor here works together to complete this masterpiece. The seared scallops were perfectly cooked and the lobster cappuccino was amazing. Make sure to ask for it when you dine here, it is a must-try for sure! And then the plot thickened! The finale was on its way and, if the evening hadn’t already lived up to my expectations
well, here we go. We had two delectable entrees: one fish and one beef. Le Poisson du Pacifique consisted of a Chilean sea bass enclosed in a pistachio crust topped with Mussels VeloutĂ©, and served with creamy risotto and sugar snap peas. Chilean sea bass is quickly becoming one of my favorite seafood dishes. The pistachio crust is an enjoyable touch; it makes for a great shell that, when broken through, delivering an amazing crunch and texture. This dish was so delightful that I feel at a loss for words. It was paired with 2012 Starry Night Russian River Chardonnay. So much for the surf – now for the turf! Le Filet de Boeuf au Poivre was comprised of black pepper-crusted beef tenderloin with green peppercorn sauce, fingerling potatoes rĂŽties, and haricots verts (green beans). The filet was everything I expected and then some. The filet was perfectly cooked and the green peppercorn sauce gave it a nice accent which brought all the flavors together. This unbelievable dish was nicely paired with one of my favorite wines of the night; ZD Cabernet Sauvignon. The combination of fruit, oak and tannin integrate seamlessly to provide a long, powerful finish. Now, at this point, I thought I couldn’t be any more impressed with the night here at Artisans. The experience had exceeded my high expectations, to say the least. But, wait
there is more. Ha! I found out that we had two desserts to share and they were on their way. First was the Tarte des Soeurs Tatin: Apple Tart Tatin with butter-caramelized apples served with vanilla-bean ice cream – simply an exceptional way to wrap up a beautiful meal. The butter-caramelized apple worked hand-in-hand with the vanilla-bean ice cream to produce a delighted expression on my face that has yet to be removed. Seriously! And if that wasn’t perfect enough, the second dessert was Biscuit Brownies au Chocolat Ganache Caramel Poire PochĂ©e: brownies drizzled in ganache topped with a caramel-poached pear and served with pear sorbet. Who doesn’t love chocolate? The delicious flavor of chocolate along with that of the caramel, pear and sorbet made for a symphony of sweetness. It was paired nicely with a Croft Distinction Special Reserve Port – a rich premium reserve of superior age and quality. A combination that was out-of-this-world! I take one more glance at the specialty cocktail list. I cannot eat another bite, but I am enjoying my night here so much, I just don’t want to leave. At this point, we are enjoying conversations with others at the Chef’s Table and with some of the kitchen crew. So, I decide to order a Corpse Reviver: a mix of Gin, Lillet, Cointreau and Absinthe. If you’ve never tasted this
you must. I am a fan of Ernest Hemingway and, legend has it, this historic cocktail which dates back to the 1800’s was one of his favorites. Let’s just say it bluntly. Thank you UBER
ha! The Artisans experience is something everyone should be allowed to enjoy. It is the perfect place for any occasion. Not only is Artisans a beautiful restaurant in every facet, but the level of attention to detail here stands up to any restaurant in the country. When you dine at Artisans, you are not only receiving a first-class meal, but also a culinary experience you will remember for a life time. It’s the type of place you leave feeling like you just met a new friend. I highly recommend you stop by and enjoy yourself at Artisans, you can thank me later!

I had eaten lunch here last week and was looking forward to another visit. My wife and I took 3 other couples for dinner and we all had wonderful meals! We each had different appetizers and entreĂ©s and loved each and every one. My wife’s filet mignon’ was one of the best she has ever had and I enjoyed every bit of the veal chop. The potato and lobster bisque were out of this world - just perfect. We had reservations and were seated right away and our waiter, guided us expertly through the evening. We would definitely go back and highly recommend this gem of a restaurant to others looking for a wonderful French cuisine...

This is a favorite spot when we come into the city. So cozy, wonderful wine selection and amazing food! I have never had a bad meal. Also Chef Fox is so kind and always makes a point to come by and speak to us and even sometimes sends over tiny bites of something he thinks we might enjoy. Just truly a delightful place.

Fabulous food, presentation, service and atmosphere. Best Lovster Bisque I’ve ever had. Friendly, welcoming staff. I can not recommend it highly enough.

OMG! Never in my life have I had such a divine meal. The best sea bass of any restaurant I have ever been to. Best meal, best service, such flavor in every bite. My boss takes me as we work next door and I try everyday to get her to go eat with me there. Its not only good but the place is breathtaking inside as well. Its a must try, must see, must go. Do not miss out, Try it once.
Kevin Murphy
food did not live up to its promise. Server was not well informed. In a French restaurant charging $35 for an entree, a waiter should not say, "if you are looking for something adventurous try the escargot." They should spend less on concept and more on food and staff

Our Easter Brunch at Artisans was outstanding. A stellar prix fixe menu began with an amuse-bouche trio of black peppercorn seared tuna, vichyssoise with crispy pancetta and leeks and lobster thermidor crepes. Everyone in our party ordered the sea bass entree which did not disappoint! Sea bass with saffron, crab beignet, wine vermouth risotto, fava beans, carrot purĂ©e. Bravo to Chef Russell Kirkham and the entire Artisan team. We’ll be back! artisanshou

Magnificent meal. We had the tasting menu. Highly recommended. The service was impeccable and the staff was very professional. We were there to celebrate our 20th Anniversary, and were so happy we did.

I went for the valentine event they had going it was 100 a table reservation original room was so cramped and tiny tables they said they had nothing else available until complained and they brought us to a private dinning area everything was spaced out how a regular high dining experience should be, you can't put bottles on those tiny tables lol and I believe 140 per guest 7 course meal... few things that were brought out were amazing yet some just wasn't my taste.. point being to spend the money I really wish they had more than just one option per course.. with all that being said I will definitely be back to try their original menu so I can be blown away again by taste, but have more of a choice as to what I like best..

What an amazing experience. I went there with my wife to celebrate our anniversary. I called ahead of time and requested the 8 course catered to your preference menu. It was exciting to not know what we were getting, but not anything we didn't like. All 8 courses were so delicious and Chef Jacques came out for every course to introduce the dish and to see how we enjoyed it. Our waiter Freddy was polite, friendly and attentive. We had an amazing time. Not only in the restaurant, but three days later the Chef emailed me to say that he enjoyed cooking for us. Over the top, but in a good way. We will definitely be back!

We went there for the first time and tried one of their courses for restaurant week. The lamb shank came out too dry and as if it was microwaved. Very disappointed with the way it was presented and the taste of rubber that the meat had. Sorry but I would definitely not recommend to try their restaurant week menu.
Cathy Quirino
Most amazing food and venue. The best lobster bisque I have ever had. The chef was amazing and stopped to visit with us several times! What an amazing experience and will definitely be back! One of my parents favorite restaurants and I now know why!
Dennis Satorre
Excellent food and atmosphere. The staff was wonderful especially head chef/owner. Had a great experience & sure will go back again.

We have been quite a bit and it never disappoints. I recently had a private event at Artisan's and it turned out perfect. It was exactly what I was looking for and the food is always amazing. It is our favorite date night location. I can't say enough nice things about Artisan.
Brittney Branch-Chargois
My husband and I enjoyed dinner at Artisans for our anniversary. The service provided by Gregory was impeccable, and the cuisine was absolutely breathtaking. I have literally dreamed about returning, and cannot wait to try everything on the menu.
Angela Reader
This was a great find for us - best meal we've had out in a long time - the scallop starter and lamb main were both to die for!
Josh McFarlain
For me, the food and atmosphere were enjoyable. My wife, not so much, as she became sick (stomach issues) hours after dining, which persisted for several days. While it’s difficult to prove at this point, I suspect ingredients in the Caesar salad were the primary cause.
Lisa Geraci Giesler
The atmosphere and music, the food exquisite, latte delicious, everything perfect
