Review Curry House Coco Ichibanya - Honolulu

I do get to frequent Ala Moana Center as my home is nearby. So, there I was at Makai Marketplace Food Court debating what to eat. I had decided on being cheap and chose the Curry House, which turned out to be very tasty and cheap. Spicy beef curry for $9.90. The beef was very chewy and mixed well with the spicy curry as the rice mixed very well also. This was definitely a cheap eats in Ala Moana Mall.

Is good but not as good as in Japan. In Japan they use mozzarella and you can choose from different levels of spice.

A friend of mine that lived in Japan recommended this spot to me so I really wanted to try it. After browsing the options, there were many things I wanted to try. I decided to go with what appears to be the most popular—Chicken Cutlet with Cheese (spicy). I loved this dish. I've never had a cheddar cheese with curry before and it was delicious. The curry was spicy but not overwhelmingly so. Before looking into this spot, I didn't even know curry was common in Japanese culture. I highly recommend checking this spot out. There are locations in a few different cities across the US.

I’ve been to other locations on the mainland, the food is amazing. Disappointed their seating section was closed. Having to eat in the mall was absolute craziness. Can’t complain about the food, although the portions seemed a bit small.

Great value for the amount of food you receive. And their personal dining area is still closed, but the rest of the seating at the food court is only a few steps away. Overall I can't complain. And bring cash unless you want to pay a 3% surcharge on a purchase with a credit card.

I really liked the food. I would eat here again for sure. I had lightly crisped chicken cutlets with mild curry....it was really good. It is mostly order and go, with limited seating right there, but tons of sets in food court. Food came reasonably fast. I ordered during busy time. Staff was really nice.

We miss dining in at Pearl Kai location so we finally made time to go to McCully location and we loved it. Food just taste better when you dine in, instead of ordering take out haha Will be coming back more often till Pearl Kai gets it together and reopen to dine in😃

It's not the same as Japan, but I reco the shrimp cutlet curry and getting oyster fry and add it on. You won't be disappointed.

Great food but long lineup to wait for take out. 3% addition fee if pay by credit card

Food was really delicious! I love the chicken katsu curry. I usually always go to Korean bbq, but this has reccently become my go to everytime we’re at Alamoana Center for lunch. You can also ask for spicy or non spicy, at least for the chicken katsu curry as far as i know, but it is not as hot as you’d think. The seating inside the shop itself is tight, but so is the eating area in the mall overall. Gotta fight for a table! The staff is also nice, even cracked jokes with the cashier

Great food at low prices. Our favorite is the spicy curry with a side of gyoza and potato croquette, and the chicken katsu.

Love the food here! Their curry is so yummy and the price is not bad. Been going here for a long time and am never disappointed. My favorite is the gyoza curry but their katsu is good too. Highly recommend!

Great place for Japanese-style curry. Depending on the topping choice, the amount of food you get for the price is really good. The taste is much better than other places that make their Japanese-style curry way too sweet. Fast service as well.

I'll give Cocos 4 stars. Not as good as Coco Ichibanya in Japan where you have more selection for heart level. The delicious Japaneese curry flavor is there. Service is quick and price is very reasonable.

Is it desperate to have Japanese curry for breakfast? Perhaps. I was in Waikiki early and decided that my eating schedule may just not fit in a much-desired fix from this curry chain so I thought: no time like the present. It opened at 9.30am or a little after, as you can see from the photo.

So, anyways, I've always like Mabo Tofu, the traditional Chinese spicy dish with tofu and minced meat, and since I like Japanese curry, por que no los dos? It really is a culinary wonder: perfectly cooked Japanese rice, gummier and stickier than other types of rice (basmati, jasmine), combined with the slightly sweet curry sauce and whatever you choose to come with the curry. With a sprinkle of Japanese pickles, I think it is absolutely delectable and Coco Ichibanya has always served up dependably tasty Japanese curry.

It's not fancy, and certainly not haute cuisine, but it gets my five stars.

Not bad and a different type of vege curry with lotus root, corn among the usual suspects. A nice change from all the other options.

The curry seems to have a bit of a peppery bite as well.

Good Stuff! I first fell in love with CoCo's in Japan a decade ago. When I learned there were several CoCo's o island, I made ir my mission to go there. I ordered my favorite: chicken cutlet (Katsu) with cheese. They only have either mild or spicy, Unlike the Japanese CoCo, the 10 levels of heat offered at the Japanese locations. It was good, but not like I remembered. But then, nothing ever is as good as we remember.....I'll try CoCo's again in another ten years, or sooner if I'm feeling nostalgic.

Cheap and delicious.. I love curry house. The staff at this one are not very talkative but efficient and polite enough. As for the curry, it is amazing and cheap. There are countless combinations of meats and vegetables to add into your curry. The best place to get delicious curry and huge portions for around 6 bucks!
