Review Nu'uanu Okazuya - Honolulu

Tasty, but too expensive at $15.95 for a bunch of fish cakes, spicy fried chicken, butter melon, croquette, and mac salad (no rice). Sounds like a lot of food, but look at the photo! Before starting, I kept thinking I should’ve gone to L&L instead for some freshly prepared hot food. Turns out, fish cakes were just ok, but the spicy fried chicken, mac salad, and croquette were excellent. The best was the butter melon, though. Docked one star for the high price. I might return to try some of their other dishes.

They renovated not so long ago. The space is even bigger and not overwhelming like the old space. The interior made me feel like home and very refreshing. The food is still as fresh and tasty ever since. Aunty gave me a fresh banana (so kind and friendly). One negative thing is the food kinda cold but I have no problem with that since I eat cold pizza and burgers all the time. They also take credit card and you can also earn points for rewards. I will visit more often!

I live a few blocks away and pass a dozen restaurants on the way here. Not only is it cheaper than all of them, the food has never been short of amazing. Juiciest meat downtown. Staff is always quick, friendly, and helpful.

Nu'uanu Okazuya is a small, family-owned Japanese restaurant located in Honolulu, Hawaii. The restaurant has been in business for over 50 years and is known for its delicious okazuya (Japanese homestyle cuisine). The menu at Nu'uanu Okazuya features a wide variety of dishes, including bento boxes, noodle dishes, and rice plates. Some of the most popular dishes include the chicken katsu, the teriyaki chicken, and the Spam musubi. The restaurant also has a variety of desserts, including mochi and ice cream. The food at Nu'uanu Okazuya is consistently good. The portions are generous and the prices are very reasonable. The service is also excellent. The staff is friendly and attentive and always willing to make recommendations. Overall, Nu'uanu Okazuya is a great place to go for a delicious and affordable Japanese meal. It is a popular spot for locals and tourists alike. Here are some of the pros and cons of Nu'uanu Okazuya: Pros: Delicious food Generous portions Reasonable prices Friendly and attentive service Family-owned and operated Cons: Can be crowded at peak times No parking lot (street parking only)

We ate at Nu'uanu Okazuya pre-COVID-19. RESTAURANT: The restaurant is small, but has a parking lot next door and ample street parking. Inside the restaurant, it feels like you are at your Japanese grandmother's house. The counter, where you order, feels like the kitchen, the two tables feel like a dining room, and the area with a couch and television feels like a living room. It is the cutest little place, ever. SERVICE: The staff talks to everyone like long-term friends or family members. It makes you feel like you could just spend the day lounging there, eating and watching television. FOOD: We ordered the fried chicken, nishime, greenbean stirfry, and stuffed bittermelon. Everything tasted like a home-cooked meal! Every bite will leave your heart feeling warm and cared for.

Walk by everyday and always see delicious food in the front display case and today I finally decided to stop in and give it a shot. It was a wise move on my part because the food was AMAZING. Whatever sauce they put on top of the fried chicken I had was soo ono! I will definitely be going back. The staff was very friendly and the prices were great! I would see recommend this place to anyone who like Japanese BBQ!

Open 7 days a week, a little pricey. But excellent food, hard to find good OKAZUYAS now days. The only thing skimpy was the spam musubi, was the skinniest I've ever bought.🙊🙉🙈😂🤣😜👍

I have always, always thought that Nuuanu Okazuya was too expensive. A friend told me that not only did they expand their store's square footage but that the prices were really reduced. I stopped one day on my home. I had a piece of fried chicen, a spam musubi, a kobu maki and an order of gobo. My bill was over $18. I was flabbergasted. The two aunties that were tending the counter were so nice. They signed me up to save the next time I visited. According to the email, I would save $2. off my bill. I had a piece of chicken, chow fun and gobo. With the discount, it was $11.00. I'm done. Food is okay, nothing special...still way out of my budget. Oh, the second time I went, the 2nd auntie was not there. Instead there was a tall dude that had no personality whatsoever I attempted small talk with him, he didn't answer nor even crack a smile.

Love the food, and the assorted options available. I have always found the staff to be friendly and easy to talk to. The restaurant was recently expanded, and the new dining area is warm and welcoming.

Good fried saimin and really yummy chicken katsu. The shoyu pork was pretty good and so was the kalua pork and cabbage. I wasn't a fan of the shoyu hot dog though. I did however enjoy the garlic string beans. This okazuya has a great atmosphere. Very cozy and homey. Nice place for a good breakfast and fairly cheap considering how much food you get.

XLNT For a quick breakfast or LUNCH, you can't beat it. I was in a rush and got eggs, squash, fish all for under $10 with tip. Generous portions, healthy food. ONO!
