Review Izakaya Uosan - Honolulu

This Japanese restaurant in Honolulu is truly one of the best! The grilled oyster is a standout, a perfect blend of creaminess and freshness. The uni rice is a delight, with a unique texture that enhances the experience. While the beef tongue has a slight sourness, it's the best in its own way. The ice cream is decent but nothing extraordinary. If you plan to visit, don't miss out on the heavenly goodness of the grilled oyster – a must-try!

I think the sushi is fresh, the shooters are good and the service is attentive at this restaurant. However, it feels more like a small, family-owned establishment, yet the prices reflect those of a modern sushi place.

Wow, the truffle butter uni & egg yolk rice is to die for! We loved it so much, we got an extra serving. The sashimi and oysters were incredibly fresh and the karaage and beef tongue udon were equally as good! The servers were attentive and the sweetest. 10/10 overall

Nice vibe as a dinner place, but the food is so-so. I do love the Uni rice but the rest are just as regular as other restaurant. The sashimi is overrated and I think it not worth the price. The beef tongue taste hard and the onion on top were freezy. Highly recommend the white eel!!

I originally went for truffle uni butter rice. After trying, 21 dollars is a little expensive😅 cuz for me it was just an egg bibimbap without sesame oil. probably only for me(my poor taste But the cream fried crab is really delicious!! The first bite is amazing! Really highly recommended To be honest, if I only tried truffle uni rice, I would probably write a bad comment, but I fell in love with the cream fried crab ball...

Fish、Crab and Uni are pretty fresh. My fav dish is the【roasted white Unagi】, it’s a MUST try!! The Zuwai Kano (snow crab from Japan)tastes good but pricey. The most popular dish- Uni Egg Rice: a little bit greasy and should be save for the last.

The fish quality and the design of seafood based dishes are of great quality. It’s an expensive Izakaya, but I got what I paid for. The fishes are imported from Japan and their taste worths it. With the relatively short distance from Hawaii to Japan compared to mainland US, it’s also more cost efficient to do so and for customers to enjoy the fresh flavor here. Particularly love the thick cut snapper with slightly grilled skin in the chef’s sashimi cut and the uni yoke rice. The uni rice goes great with mustard too if you wanna bring in some refresher. The chef’s seasoning skews slightly to the heavy side. Personally I think the oyster can take less soy sauce, same for the abu tora sushi. Overall, very enjoyable.

Good news. No more omakase only after Christmas and new year. The Otoro was boom, so oily, and it tastes so good. It literally melt in your month. Recommend Chu toro if you don't like oily fish. The sweet shrimp was ok because they don't use the head to make a fried head or head soup like other restaurants. Waiter was nice and recommended us uni pancake with caviar ($32), seasalt grill unagi($30). Both were a 4 out 5 good but very pricey for such small portion. The uni truffle egg rice was as good as everyone says. It is so rich in flavor. MUST try item. Overall, I would give a 4.5.

Love the steamed uni best! The foir gras with fatty balablala is also very good, the goose liver is well done I love it ☺️☺️☺️ The uni truffle rice is also very tasty, however my personal feel is that the truffle smell is a little bit too strong I can't get the uni tasty, ye this is my first tim eat uni, so , to tasty the uni, I ordered the steamed uni, it`s my favorite this time. Yep. I prefer light flavor, some food in Hawaii are too salty to me . Just fyi.

The signature dishes are good but the common sushi items don't stand out. Worth a try!! But don't expect to be blow away.

So where do I begin with this place huh? The staff were so friendly and knowledgable of the dishes, the preparation and helped us answer all our questions. The quality of all the dishes were out of this world. You can find traditional Japanese and more modern takes using Japanese inspiration with local ingredients. I loved the modern take of the uni truffle butter, such a light truffle taste (unlike those over powered fake truffle flavours you get in some dishes) they knew where and how truffle can be used for goo taste. The simplicity of traditional home made pickles or the grilled fish were amazing too. This place is amazing, with a handwritten menu each day, showing the specials and what's in season or fresh. I highly recommend this place. It isn't cheap, but a definite destination for a special occasion.

My night with Uosan was something to remember. Chef nobu and his entourage served us with utmost attention and detail. Ranging from different crustaceans to omakase sashimi to sushi piece by piece (I didn’t take pictures for the fish. Was too hungry!) The quality of the fishes were impeccable, it was all flown in daily from Japan! The crab was live from Japan too. It was HUGE for 78$. The sushi was firm and tasted of years off experience. It doesn’t fall apart nor was the cuts of fish too big. There were such a vast amount of sake that the waiters were kindly explaining to me about sakes that were off list. I settled upon a basic kubota manju after I was paired with an amazing 08 don peri! Their service reminded me of when I spent a getaway at the four seasons in Maldives, DIVINE. I can’t commend them more than that. Well done. I’ve spent monies at other sushi restaurant and I felt that the service and the food in uosan was on par with a fine dining restaurant like sushi sho whilst on the other hand, the cost of the dinner was comparable to an izakaya (which means great price!). ***** It saddens me that there are so many one star reviews lately. Maybe they are just fake reviews. Chef nobu definitely does not deserve a one star for uosan. That is saying chef is serving conveyor sushi restaurant quality food, which I object. Additional to that, service was top notch.***** I hope this review helps future foodies!

Every dish we tried here so far has been great - very fresh and flavorful.

I loved their uni rice with egg yolk. This place is well-known for it and there is a reason! I also enjoyed the sushi set.

One of the best Authentic Japanese restaurants in Hawaii! I really love the grilled unagi (excellent with wasabi!), beef tongue and Hamachi Collar. They don’t put sauce and marinate the Grilled fish so it tasted really fresh, and not fishy at all. Also love the crab croquette (forgot to take the photo

We had wonderful service at Izakaya Uoson. Our waiter generously shared his favorite sushi dishes, all of which were imported today from Japan; The otoro and mackerel were exceptional. Also, they offered half-off Asahi beers on their daily menu, so we enjoyed plenty of $3 beers. The truffle butter uni rice was unforgettable, and we are planning to return to Izakaya Uosan during our trip just to enjoy this dish again. We rarely go to the same restaurant twice in one trip, but we’re making an exception because Izakaya Uosan was so great!

My favorite sushi place in Oahu! The fish quality is super high, and everything taste so good. Highly recommend otoro, seared otoro, truffle uni with rice, foie gras, and omakase! The fish quality is even better than sushi sho! But with much more cheaper price
