Review Watanabe Bakery - Honolulu

Iam enigma
I LOVE their breads in particular-I won't and can't go back to American breads. My only complaint is, they're always sold out by the time I get there around 3ish, although they're open til 6. Wish they would increase their daily inventory. I often call to reserve my order ahead of time, 2-3 loaves a week

Many of them looked typical Japanese style baked goods. Nothing too gorgeous or fancy but nice traditional bread. Reasonably priced. Among some of these simple items, I couldn't help getting chocolate cream filled bread, which is called choco-cornet in Japan as a treat for myself and it was very good! Unfortunately, cakes were not that good... Not bad but cheesecake didn't have much cheese in it and tiramisu was simply coffee cream cake or something? Thus 4 stars. I will go back there for the basic bread though. Great that they have a big parking space right next to them. Love this easy access.

The legend that is watanabe bakery is well known. This place churns out fresh baked breads and supplies them to supermarkets all over the island. this location has great curry bread, an pan and a n assortment of various pastries along with new flavors all the time. Go early for the freshest bread.

The bread is sooo soft and tasty! This brings back memories of when I was a child and my dad would bring me home a loaf of Japanese bread from his work trips. The texture of the mochi donuts (black sesame and matcha) were soft like a donut with the slight chewiness of mochi. The donuts are sweet yet, not an overpowering sweetness. The donuts icing seems to be a little sensitive to the Hawaii heat because by the time I got home, the icing was sticking a little to the plastic bag. I discovered Matcha bread, too! New item. Its basically the white loaf bread made with matcha power mixed in. The flavor is subtle and nice. It would be good to spread some koshi an, and drizzle a little honey. Maybe like homemade matcha anpan? Yum! The possibilities are endless :). Don't be worries if the matcha bread starts to turn a grayish color... it's only if exposed for a long time to sunlight. I regret not taking pictures since all I wanted to do was eat my goodies. Gonna go back for more of everything one day!

Delicious, good-looking pastries at reasonable prices. Two little tables to sit at, if you want to eat in. Everything we had was fantastic, but the azuki turtle is really awesome.

I've been visiting this bakery since before they were "Watanabe" and I keep coming back for more. They have a great multigrain bread product. So delicious! I love having it with over-easy eggs, un-toasted. It makes a great tuna salad with a few chips stuffed inside. Other things I love: Chocolate ganache cake. I'm not really a "cake guy" but I really like this one. Kame/turtle. Tasty melon-pan + azuki pastry. Katsu-sando. Pork cutlet sandwich. Yum! Walnut rye. Rye bread, in Hawaii? Yes, please! Cut thick. Monkey bread. Guilty pleasure, fat-boy snack item. Aim to visit around noon to get the widest selection on baked and prepared goods.

They make the cutest little animal pastries. My kids love them. Family business. I like to buy at the end of the day for discounted pastries

Used to be Fujipan until the local Fujipan rep bought it out. Good, standard Japanese style bakery. Often has special sale prices after 5pm.

Sad to see them closed. Good to know they will be selling their sliced bread at local markets.
