Excellent vegan sushi that is insanely close, if not better, than the real deal! I highly recommend having a meal here, especially if there's a vegan or vegetarian in your group. The sushi rice is perfectly cooked and seasoned, and the different rolls are surprisingly delicious. We also got the vegan spam bao, which was probably our least favorite item. I'd skip it if you're not a fan of fake meat. Otherwise, you can't go wrong with any of the sushi rolls. Definitely go out of your way to try their food here!
This is a great vegan sushi place in a fairly humble setting. The restaurant sits on the street right next to a couple of fairly run down places. However, all that changes as soon as you enter the restaurant. The interior is elegant, muted and welcoming. The hostess quickly seated us and we got the most wonderful waitress (big shout out to Eva).
We did not recognize most of the dishes but with the help of Eva we picked a few and they were all delicious! They were presented aesthetically (see the pics) and sumptuous!
The prices are a bit on the higher side but worth every penny!
Highly recommended!
I love how creative the menu is! Everything I've had is tasty, which includes but is not limited to a multitude of rolls, and especially the brussel sprouts. The staff is very nice and the ambiance is trendy af. I like that they serve their water with a cucumber slice.
One of the best vegan hotspot in town if you're trying to impress your date, celebrate an occasion or curious to try fancy vegan izakaya. Fantastic for both vegans and curious carnivores.
For a group of four people, we ordered grilled mushrooms, tane katsu, gyoza and three rolls: the wedge, Kailua and Point Reyes. The wedge was by far my favorite specialty role. The servers were excellent and friendly, and because we were a relatively larger group and made reservation in advance we got to have private seating which is more quiet than the rest of the restaurant. If you're the kind that needs more to feel full I recommend that you order their ramen.
You MUST order the "cheesecake" to end the night. You won't regret it.
Really one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time! The food is amazing and the so is the concept, we need more restaurants like this. Will absolutely come back every time we’re in Honolulu.
Blown away by every single dish, I wish I could have tried everything on the menu. Save your appetite so you can try more items, you won't regret it. Everything was incredible. The Nigiri was my favorite. The lily koi cheesecake was mind blowing. The staff all did such a great job, very warm and welcoming.
Tane was a wonderful little find on our vacation to Honolulu, we were able to continue a vegan lifestyle without having to sacrifice a fine dining experience. I can't recommend this place enough, both for plant based and omni diets
Don't have enough superlatives. WOW. Food was amazing and beautifully and creatively presented. Our first visit. I want to return repeatedly to try Everything on the menu. The lilikoi cheesecake dessert was incredible. Staff friendly and helpful. Food came out quickly. They kept the table clean of empty dishes. Ample space between tables so we felt comfortable. Small parking available but we went when they opened and parking was no problem. The inari had shiitake mushrooms. We tried the Ewa, Leahi, Da Baos and Shizen Mushrooms. Culinary delight all around. We took home sime food, but it did cost over $100 for 2 of us with drinks and tip, so not an everyday place, but definitely going back.
I’ve never had vegan food outside of cafes and it was super yummy! We had 2 miso soups, 1 agedashi tofu, and 3 rolls for 3 people; it was surprisingly filling, though with some room for dessert:). The tofu in some of these rolls is so creamy- it was fun comparing what we ate to the actual ingredients on the menu. The Ewa roll is good. And the roll with “fire” as an ingredient was fun 😆🔥.
Great food, Good sake selection. A bit too mushroom heavy for me, but my wife liked it. Ended up spending 100$ for drinks and food for two, but we are heavy. Would add another star if they had fresh wasabi.
Best meal that my wife and I ever enjoyed together…. on the last night of our honeymoon no less. We got seated at the bar where Tina and Cat treated us like special guests/old friends. Anna was a fabulous server with lots of input and recommendations. Food was amazing - all three specialty rolls we ordered were uniquely delicious - we didn’t know that you could do this with sushi! Note to other plant-based restaurateurs: eat here and take notes. Wish there was a place like this in our home-town of Boston.
I think I'm a sushi fan now! Here visiting family for graduation and we went out for plant based sushi post event. We loved it!
Shared with 4 people, what we ordered:
* Garlic Edamame
* Gyoza
* Brussel Sprouts
* Kailua
* The Wedge
* Pokai
* Ewa
* Cheesecake (x2)
Add in a couple of cocktails to what you see above; VERY reasonably priced for the amount of food we ordered. Thank you, Tane!
Best sushi I have ever had. Service was friendly and fast. Highlights for me were the Pacifica roll and the katsu. It’s an incredible vegetarian/vegan/gluten-free option!
We had an excellent dining experience at Tane. Tane Vegan Izakaya has a Japanese menu featuring plant-based sushi, ramen & sharing plates. We had good service, and excellent vegan food! Many choices! Our vegan family visiting from the mainland thoroughly enjoyed Tane Vegan Izakaya. Even the non-vegans at our table enjoyed the experience. This is a must visit for anyone wanting 1st class vegan food. Be sure to make reservations online to insure you get a table.
As someone who doesn’t eat seafood this is basically the dream ‘Japanese sushi’ experience. It’s a cosy dimly lit space with character. The food was all lovely, the smokey miso eggplant was a delight. Love the take on the musubi? with the bean curd, and maybe the best Californian roll I’ve ever had. I felt like I was tasting everything in the described in the lychee sake. I’m not experienced diner in this style but I was totally satisfied. Service was thoughtful, happy to engage. Would recommend.
The most amazing sushi I’ve had. There’s not much too say you just need to try it!

Made reservations here as soon as we booked our trip. We loved all the food we ordered. Like many have said here before, the specialty rolls are amazing - we tried Wedge and Ewa and loved both. We also had da bao, and mango nigiri and liked both. We had a sake- this was our first time trying sake but we weren’t quite sure how much we liked it. Nevertheless it was nice to try something new. The chocolate yuzu cake for dessert was fantastic ! All in all the quantity of food was perfect for us, we were pretty hungry too when we ended up there. This is definitely a must visit place in Waikiki area for vegetarians.
The edemame was delish, and the Pacifica roll was so good!! I love the concept of this place and how there is creative use of veggies😍 the service was fast and they were very nice. Thank you!!
