Eggplant dengaku is amazing - I know it's an appetizer, but trust me. Butterfish was good and I don't even like fish. The service was really great, very prompt. The place felt very fancy but also relaxed? We went midday on a weekday and it wasn't very busy.
The first time I went there their shrimp tempura is the best I have ever had. It is crispy light and really juicy. The shrimp is slightly raw in the center which makes it not as overcooked as in other restaurants. The second time though it was not good. Not crispy and very greasy. The tonkatsu is also very heavy. The teriyaki salmon is great. Perfectly cooked and not too sweet and have a subtle charred flavor.
The experience really depends on the chefs’ shifts.
it’s a good sign when they give you a pestle to grind the seasame seeds for the katsu sauce. This place is neat n elegantly simple, good date place. all the food is proper n delicious. some think this place is on the expensive side but after paying 20bucks per person at a nearby foodcourt, i think the value proposition is really relative. i think i will bring guests here for a treat nextime.
We didn’t have to wait for seating at all during lunch time. The wait staff was attentive. The food was excellent and came out fast. The katsu is soft, fluffy and crispy. The atmosphere is unique and eloquent. Would be a great place for a date.
Food and Atmosphere was very good (had our own cornered off room)... we ordered a bit of everything but the 2 dishes that stood out were the sashimi platter (Hamachi, Ahi, Salmon, Belt Fish, Octopus) which was very fresh... And the tonkatsu (Pork loin and fillet) was also extremely tasty and juicy... Pricey but I would highly recommend this restaurant in Ala Moana.
Not sure why others did not like the katsu here. This place has one of the best katsu I’ve tried. Their sashimi are also very fresh! Prices are a bit steep; expect to spend $20~$30 on a katsu.
Went there around 1pm on a Tuesday. Restaurant was half full. Service was quick and good. Our waiter could do better if he didn’t spill any sauce. No harm done though.
The prices were reasonable. Food quality was not top notch but decent. The ambiance was good. We liked it. The rice was good. The sashimi was about average (compared to northern California Japanese restaurants).
Great food there. Fresh Sashimi, tender tonkatsu and the best grilled butterfish(cod). Nice ambient of the restaurant too. The waitres was very attentive as well. I wish they have more sushi variety.
This restaurant is a hidden gem in Ala Moana. It’s not as publicly advertised as the other places yet it’s one of our favorite restaurants on the island. We first came a few months ago and probably have been back around 10 times. Kohei, the manager there, always takes fantastic care of us. He’s fantastic!
The service is impeccable, and the food is even better. Our favorites are the fried hamachi Kama, shokadou, and the tempura (we are not big katsu people but folks we have brought said it was great). Even little things like the rice is done great.
Would give 10 stars if I could. Highly recommend to everyone; if you’re coming on the weekend, probably best to make a reservation. They social distance here so only a few tables available.
Clean venue and friendly staff. Food is pricy and overall very tasty. More on the salty side, I liked the miso butterfish at the start but it got more and more salty as the meal progressed.
