Review Azteca Mexican Restaurant - Honolulu

Christina Platt
The food was excellent and service was fantastic. We had the Pollo en Mole and the Carnitas Chimichanga. The mole was smooth and rich, with a good balance of sweet and spicy. The salsa was perfect; not too spicy so that everyone can enjoy it. The fresh guacamole was creamy and delicious.

Everything is always so delicious here. The decor is so cute. They are so friendly and work hard for you. The salsa spicy and fine; the chips are fresh and light. It's so flavorful without being overly salty. I will always get chicken as the beef has a more course texture. The beef is really flavorful, but I just like the chicken more so. The rice and beans are delicious too. The portions are large and satisfying. It's always so comforting to come in and enjoy a great meal here. I ate too fast and forgot to take propper pictures.

Fast friendly service the food was awesome came out really fast even the waiter was very friendly and he was like 10 or 12 years old so cute will definitely go back again

Rated this 4 stars and not 5 because the portion size was a little small. I shared the burrito with beans and rice with my spouse because I am used to always getting massive burritos at other Mexican restaurants. Needless to say I left a little hungry. This of course is my own fault and should have each ordered our own burritos. Service was great. Food was delicious. Definitely going to return many times! If you like my review, please follow me :)

We were on our vacation to Oahu and went here by the Google reviews. Weren't disappointed! Fantastic service and great taste. We are vegetarians and usually prefer mexican cuisine on vacations as you find better vegetarian options. This place was great for us. The place was small but it wasn't so crowded to be waiting for a dinner around 8 PM Dishes are a bit pricey than a usual Mexican restaurants but that's fine with me. A meal for two came around $32. My wife often recalls about the service here. The waiter was too kind! 😃

Not affiliated with the chain restaurant. This place has it all, great location and atmosphere. Amazing staff and restaurant owners. I still dream of their fresh made salsa and guacamole 12 years later. I've never had an enchilada 10% the quality of the ones made here since I last visited. If you're in the area or lucky enough to live nearby do yourself a favor. You could literally eat lunch here every single day and never get sick of it, you won't find anything on the mainland even close, in any state.

I noticed the mole enchiladas are popular, but I'm not a mole girl. Either way, the classic cheese enchiladas were bomb! I also asked for a spicier salsa and it was so yummy. If you're from LA, think Tito's tacos salsa with a major kick. The owners are awesome and I'm super happy we stopped by this family owned business to get our Mexican food fix!

Great homestyle Mexican food! Stumbled upon this gem after a hike in Hawaii Kai and have been going to it ever since. This place is definitely my go to for authentic Mexican Food (coming from a Mexican couple 😅). Have never been disappointed with the service and the food. 😋 I give it 10/5 stars!! Best on island!!

An authentic Mexican restaurant on the corner of Waialae and Wilhelmina. It is can't miss based on its location. We were greeted and sat instantly. The service was fast. Staff continued to check in on us. The food was good. The albondigas soup is delicious. The flan is the best cap to the meal here at Azteca.

I would like to give it this place 3 and a 1/2 stars but the app will not allow me the food is better than a lot of Mexican restaurants price a little higher than I would like but worth while still service is very welcoming good people. You got a live in more food for the price I would definitely give it 5 stars. It's a small restaurant with a small dining area but we went with proximately 15 people And there was still Room for more. I would suggest this place as a place to bring your family.

When I want good Mexican food in Hawaii Azteca is where I go. The food is really good and the service is awesome. Prices are reasonable too. Parking is the biggest issue but I live less than a mile away so I walk instead of driving. Love their pico de gallo. Very fresh.

Most authentic Mexican restaurant on the island hands down. My wife was hecho en Mexico and lived there most of her life and said this was the best Mexican restaurant she had been too. The family that works there has been on the islands since the 70s, and are from Guerrero Mexico. So they're the real deal. Support this local family owned business and you won't be disappointed!!

Our favorite little Tex-mex spot on the island. Fantastic food (I recommend anything with mole) and good margaritas. Service is fantastic. The entire family is always there running the joint. Good people.

Our favorite Mexican place on the island so far. Kaimuki is mostly metered parking, so bring some quarters. Plan to take some amazing salsa to go - it is absolutely addicting. Wonderful, small family business that is well worth supporting!

Ole! Home-style Mexican food served in a casual, well worn space. A Kaimuki treasure for decades. Chips and salsa - yum! Tacos, enchiladas, chile rellanos, all classic. A must whenever I am visiting Oahu.

Love it. This place has the Chili Verde Burrito (order it "wet") that matches the best from California. I don't know what those kooks who don't like this place are thinking. Perhaps they are competitors trying to cull some of Azteca's business? The one I can't beleive is the one that said the food was "so bad I spit it out" -- truly over-dramatic and "dosn't pass the sniff test" This place is really one of the best Mexican resutrants in Honolulu

Had a great experience reminiscent of time back in San Diego. I had a combination plate with a chicken taco, beef enchilada, and pork tamale. The chicken taco was OUTSTANDING! And the beef enchilada was a close second. Definitely a new favorite that I will certainly visit again and again. Muy Bueno.

Fantastic!. This is without a doubt Oahu's best Mexican restaurant!! It won the 2012 Hale Aina Award for Honolulu's finest Mexican Restaurant. We have been going to Azteca for over 20 years and have NEVER been disatisfied. The negative post on Urbanspoon are from competitors who cannot say the same. Azteca has the best guacamole I have ever had (mainland or Hawaii) and their salsa is fantastic. If you love chilli rellenos, this is the place. The family that owns and runs the restaurant is lovely and the service is always warm and friendly. You cannot ask for more!

***Worst***. The worst Mexican food I have ever had! Don't waste your money.

Worst Mexican food experience in Hawaii. The food was expensive for the quantity and quality. Very litlle meat in the fajitas compared to other Mexican restaurants.

Awesome Pollo en Mole. It's actually a bit spicy here and not just overrated chocolate sauce. Family owned and a home atmosphere despite being very busy most nights. Tasty flan too! =)

Depends on what you get. I had the carnitas taco with guacamole. It came on corn tortilla. Very good. Authentic looking inside with Mexican music playing in the background

SUCKS. Oh this food was horrible! I had to sign up just to let people know this is not good food. i actually spit it out! boring and expensive for mexican food. Bad Bad Bad had the burrito and it must have been canned meat as ther was no taste. the salsa was ok the chips were overcooked..oh just go somewhere else!

I love Mexican food, and our family dined at Azteca Mexican Restaurant so I could indulge in my favorite cuisine. Complimentary Chips & Salsa Cheese Quesadilla with Guacamole Chicken Chimichanga Chicken Enchilada and Chile Relleno The Chips & Salsa were good - the Salsa had a little bite to it which I liked. Even though the chicken in the chimichanga I ordered seemed a bit underseasoned, i
