Review Char Hung Sut Restaurant - Honolulu

I love this place! Family owned and run. They speak Hakka :) Most was so flavorful and delicious - fresh from the steamers. A couple of things we had were average but definitely a place to visit! 4.8.

I went for the Manapua and I was not disappointed. 40 years ago it cost $0.25 for one from the food truck that frequented our school. Today it cost $1.90: a bargain compared to the real estate cost increases in Hawaii over the past 40 years. Their hours are limited and Char Hung Sut is not a restaurant. They have a very limited number of options, but they do have soda in a cooler if you need something to drink. Your food is placed in a cardboard box and tied shut - everything is carry out. Their operation is very basic, fun to watch, and efficient. They take your order, get your food, take your money and you are expected to move on so someone else can get their food. Parking is street parking, and because you’re in Chinatown you might want to take the time to explore a bit while you’re there. The manapua is great, and I expect the rest of what they do is very good as well. I hope I have the time, and appetite given all the other great food options in the area.

This is a great hidden gem that is take out only. Please stop and try the half moons and the manapua. The half moons are dumplings and the manapua is a soft sweet bread with a pork filling. I would get these again!

Small shop that makes everything right in front of you! Though there are only a handful of things in the menu, you should just get the pork buns. Extremely fluffy, sweet & savory - exactly how a pork bun should taste. Pork hash was good (texture similar to sticky rice dumplings) but didn't care for the half moon & pepitao. Overall, the portions of the fillings were a bit smaller than expected. Especially in the pork bun, there was much more bread than filling.

Although there is no space to eat in, you are sure to get good manapua here! They open at 5:30am. Go early if you would like to get some. Don't forget to try black sugar manapua as well.

My favorite manapua and pork hash on the island. Never disappoints. FYI...cash only at this place.

Small whole in the wall. The lady wasn’t very English fluent. But she showed me everything was being made and what each item was.

Get here early and get the food. They will sell out. The place is easy to miss, it's an old school joint. They make everything the old fashion way. Food is very tasty, I got two of everything that was available when i got there at noon. I waa very pleased with all the flavor that was infused into the half moons and buns. Definitely a place you want to grab a quick bite from!

Truly our favorite place to grab dim sum in the entire world. No joke. It is our first stop as soon as we land and we usually eat there several times when we are in the island for a week. Pork hash and half moons are amazing and it's hard to choose which one is better each time we go. Awesome!!!

Debbie K. Char Hung Sut the best manapua and dim sum. Everything always hot and fresh. When you walk in you can see the people making the different dim sums. The bun has a good taste and lots of filling. Most places there is more bun than filling. The people taking orders friendly and keeps the line moving. It's busy sometimes so calling in your order may be faster. Call in when you go to pick up its hot and ready for you. Try Char Hung Sut your tummy will be happy you did.

Delicious and a different, stringier texture compared to Chinese/Taiwanese chashaobao.

I pick up my lunch there every other day. I love the food. The service is so fast. By the time I get back to my baseyard, my lunch is still hot. The chow fun and the gong something is so good. I need to stop there one day when I fly to the islands.

This place is for take out only. They have awesome dim sum, my husband loves the pork hash but the half moons are my favorite. Their manapua are big and tasty. The prices are good, too! If you go late you may miss out on some of the items that sell out. When you enter the place, it feels like you're stepping right into the kitchen! If you go early you can see the dim sum being made! Besides dim sum, they have lo mein and another noodle dish, rice cakes, and drinks (cans of Pepsi products and Passion orange in a small fridge).

The best manapua with no close second. Really. It’s cheap even with recent price increase, the portions are ignorant considering I’ve never had one with more bread than filling, and it is reliably delish! It is a very interesting setup but I really like it as a change of pace. You order from a register stationed pretty much ground zero of kitchen chaos! Aunties and uncles move around you at light speed at times but you wouldn’t know it and before you get your change you have your order. The only negatives are they only take cash (last I checked), they have business hours that are slightly off from traditional food places so you’ll need to do a bit of planning at times, and they sell out fast... which probably leads to aforementioned odd business hours with no more product.

Best chinese food I've had! Literal definition of hole in the wall place but their food (noodles, half moon rolls and a delicious fresh out of the oven baked pork bun!) was SO delicious. They even packed me some dipping sauce!

Its all in the texture not only the taste. In my opinion when you steam food it doesn't work if one over steams it or under steam it. My friends at Char Hung Sut are tuned into their product, and they have their delicious Chinese delicacies ready to be devoured by waiting customers early every morning Wednesday thru Monday every week closed on Tuesdays.

One of the bigger manapua I have found on my trip so far. I meat is sweet but had a very good taste. Just one will fill you up well it did me. The meat to bread ratio was good.
