There seems to be (at least) three authentic Japanese restaurants in Waikiki. Authentic means Japanese key staff, authentic dishes, none of the American rolls etc. the other two being Suntory and Yoshitsune. This restaurant features very high quality Japanese fare for lunch and dinner. This review focuses on lunch. There’s a few great specials and we had the Chirashi , assorted tempura, miso soup and a huge flavorful very fresh tofu salad bargain at $7.50. Call ahead for sure and dinner can be hard to get into.
This is my favorite Japanese restaurant in Hawaii that offers a large variety of Japanese style cooking. I love how fresh the sushi and sashimi are. I love the uni they offer here, and the cooked items are fantastic. Although it's pricey, the quality is what makes this place worthwhile.
We usually come here at least once a year. Pricing isn't bad at all for what you get and the quality. Service is always really good here.
Parking validation is $4 if you park at the Prince.
Being a big fan of fresh sushi, we got a tip from a resident. He warned that we needed a reservation, so only having two days left I gave it a shot. After a day and a half of "no" we got "yes." We showed up on time and there was a line. The ordering system makes it very efficient. We ordered all at once, which is my one regret. We had all of our food within about 10 minutes and were done around 20 minutes. I recommend ordering one thing at time, to relax and enjoy the experience. All the sushi is very fresh and super tasty. Our Miso soup came with about 8 fresh Clams; with lids so it stayed nice and hot. The Uni was my favorite, what a treat ! We will definitely be back. Arigato 👏
The food is more than worth the price. It's pricey but like I said it's worth it. The service is efficient and friendly. The atmosphere was nice. They have a "classy" Japanese restaurant vibe but not too bougie to have an automated food delivery line sending food down to your table on a plate with wheels. Overall, a great place.
The food was fresh/tasty and the drinks were delicious. The service was average and the ambience was standard for a Japanese restaurant. You order your meal from a tablet device and some dishes are served on a conveyor belt. I would eat here again. Reservations are a must for evenings. Decent value for location and amount of food. The lunch specials are recommeneded. The toro bowl was delicious and reasonably priced for Waikiki. Parking is available across the street for $1/hr.
We ate here several times during our stay. Very fresh fish and great eel lunch box. Their fatty tuna was so good, as well as the ankimo. Will definitely come back for the quality of the food.
My family and I love coming here for quality sushi at an affordable price. You order through a tablet on the table which is quite easy and allows you full use of your 90 minutes. Our server was very friendly and checked on us frequently to see if we needed anything like water refill, enough wasbi, etc. Our favorite items is the salmon skin salad, the yokozuna, kobore ikura/uni, and any of the lunch sets.
Best authentic sashimi and sushi lunch (fish all flown in from Japan) . Order everything through a tablet, so really, there is no service. Had to waive someone down for water and green tea.
Katsumidori is a very satisfactory place to get sushi. The prices are very decent for the quality you get in terms of fish, and the uni is one of the best sourced on the island. Over the COVID years I believe the quality has went down and the price has went up, however they are sourced from Japan so with the restrictions, it's understandable. Service may have changed due to the new waiters/waitresses but was still a decent experience. Overall, I still recommend a go if you want some expensive sushi such as uni or fatty tuna at a fair price.
