Review Town Restaurant - Honolulu

Elsy Chow
My husband and I had a good meal here. Very nice friendly service. Food was tasty and fresh. A relaxed atmosphere with a skateboarding/surfer vibe. A little pricey but it's nice to know you are eating farm to table. Pasta was delicious. I liked that they reused old menus for coasters.

The Town is a hard to find restaurant even though it fronts Waialae Avenue. It is a great restaurant with flavorful food. The service is quick. The fennel sausage sandwich is delicious. The fries are addicting to eat. This place is top notch. The menu is small.
Jeremy Sepinsky
Great food every time. Always something interesting and delicious. Beer selection is small but of high quality. Everything is locally sourced with a fresh menu each night. For me, it's a must-visit every time I come to Honolulu.

1st time visiting Honolulu, Hawaii. Took my husband to dinner at Town for his birthday. Great people, relaxed atmosphere and the food was unique and amazing.Every ingredient is from the island. We will definitely be going back before our trip ends.

Ate the posole with hominy and chile bowl with Town [fresh-sqeezed] Lemonade and it was excellent. Each dish has a thorough description of its ingredients, all which are locally sourced. Great service! Even though they were busy inside when I went for lunch, Jen came to refill my glass twice.

Great food, great service. The parsley lemonade is awesome! Also recommend the burger. it was nice to have the choice of fries or greens or combination of both. had coffee and panocotta after lunch. Five star restaurant at a three star price. good lunch date place.

Definitely one of the best restaurants in Honolulu. Amazing food and so much is locally sourced.

My favorite farm to table restaurant on Oahu. Never disappoints. Stop by for a taste of aloha.
Jerae Kelly
Very solid restaurant and awesome they use local ingredients. Everything is fresh and quality. The pastas are to die for—definitely go for it. Great wine and cocktails. Only thing was my fish dish and my husbands pork was a bit dry. But we will definitely be back.

Service was excellent. We had 3 others join our party of 3 and the staff accommodated the change without blinking an eye. Our drinks were kept topped up and the food was worth waiting for...the burgers were flavorful and moist - cooked perfectly. The fries were crispy and had just the right combination of salt and herbs. The grilled eggplant and roasted vegetables were a pleasant surprise. If you like eggplant, you gotta try this dish. The meaty portion of the long eggplant combined with spices and herbs and then topped with a sprinkling of cheese brought back memories of an eggplant salad my mom used to prepare. Great experience! Great food!

We had dinner at Town on a Friday night. The setting is pleasant although the stainless steel tabletops are an unusual choice with our utensils sliding around and occasionally on to the floor. We had the gnocchi which was quite good and hand-cut pasta which was unremarkable. The noise inside the restaurant was a little challenging. If we go again, we will choose to eat at one of the outdoor tables. Service was good.

Awesome food, from starter all the way to desserts.

One of the best meals during our stay here. Definitely pricey but totally worth it. Large variety of entrees, all fresh served elegantly, and taste was out of this world in each one. We had a lovely time! Next trip back, we'll do it again!

I‘m typically spoiled by my husband when it comes to Valentine‘s dinner. So when I heard that he booked our date to Town restaurant. It actually surprised me. Bec I love natural and healthy meal and he told me based on the reviews, Town has one of the highest. So along the way, I was hoping for him to cancel the reservation and allo me to choose the venue. Tho, I‘ve eaten here before and the food was delicious but I can always eat here at linch time and Valentine is an esp occasion. So, yes we did came here to eat, I figure everywhere would be all booked on the Valentine‘s day so I dressed up casual and as I have imagined.. no white table cloth, no candle light, too dark and couldn‘t see the menu. I thought it was crazy to see the price for that venue! But when the foods arrived. All I could say was WOW!!! I know that they have good food but I didn‘t expect that to be good or even better than any expensive venue that we had previously. It was sooo good that I have to spread the word and take the time to write this long stiry review! The salad was good, the black pasta was good (note: i don‘t normally eat pasta in restaurant) I planned to take it home but I ended up eating it. The fish on the grilled bread was the best! Again, I normally don‘t eat bread too much but i gate it a try bec of the fish and wow I was struck how good the bread was. Then we had to take home the dessert bec all the foods were in my throat already.. that‘s how full I was. I never stuffed my stomach that much! And the next morning I ate both deserts. I didn‘t even shared any with my husband. the guava with brownie was so good! Not so sweat but oh so good! Thank you Town for the experience. All those fancy stuff I was envisioning were obsolete. As I finish this review.. I reminded my husband how good it was and we‘re wondering if it‘s on your daily menu card. Again, thank you, it was awesome.. yes, we came for the food not for decor!

The server was very helpful when I told her that I was a vegan. She suggested a lovely entree made of various sides. I was so happy.

I brought my mother here for her birthday while visiting in Oahu. We had seen it on food network. The food was delicious. As usual, some things better than others. Our server was very nice and helpful. The bitter greens with macadamia nuts and mango sorbet were my favorites and they were the sides. The pa'i'ai was also very tasty. Good mix of local flavors, fresh ingredients and classic favorites.

Best local food , fabulous Service best restaurant in Kaimuki, Honolulu , local, fresh , clean, yummy food, Best place to eat in Hawaii!

Rhonda our server was nice and helpful. My Kubocha Salad was uneventful and my Roasted Chicken Soup was luke warm and lacked seasonal taste.

The staff at the restaurant was wonderful. The atmosphere was nice. But the prices are not warranted. I had the strip steak with arugula and finger fries. The medium rare steak came to me overcooked and unseasoned. The arugula was fresh, but plain. The fries were greasy, soggy and stuck together. So I would recommend going there for a drink and hanging out with friends. Just don't order any food.

Good date spot. Food is above par and presentation was nice. Had the market fish, pork belly and soup and we split it - so not too spendy and we both had a share of this and that. Root vegetables had the roots - and I liked that. Authentic and nice ambiance.

Always love celebrating at Town! Especially the panna cotta. And the service, the delicious cocktails, and all of the food. Thanks for a lovely dining experience!

Perfect...food and service. I want to go back again and order one of everything on the menu.

Excellent food and amazing service. Their commitment to food integrity, and service to the local community really sets them apart!

Amazing food and amazing drinks. Town is a foodie paradise, each bite packed with incredible flavor. Would fly back just to dine there again.

That seared Ahi Tuna is amazing! Seasoned to perfection!!!

My most favorite restaurant in Hawaii. “Local first, organic whenever possible, with Aloha always” I love the concept and the delicious foods they serve.

Everything we ordered was great. Portions are just right, not too big, will definitely be back.

Wow, just saying this place is unique. It gets everything right. The service was fantastic, the food was delicious and comes to the table knowing it’s organic and local. Great local atmosphere and pricing is reasonable. Well worth the taxi ride from the main strip.

“Local first, organic where possible, and with aloha always” – their menu focuses on local ingredients and flavours with Italian influences. Six of us split everything family-style, and I’d definitely recommend going that route, cause you’ll want to try a bit of everything.
The Napoli Alert
One night we Uber it to Waialae Avenue, ten or so minutes from the main strip. A lot of dining choices here, among them we spot a craft beer place, Vietnamese, a French Bistro, a Chinese restaurant that is heaving with Chinese patrons, and a place called Mud Hen Water which has a great looking menu and is also very busy. But we’re here to try Town, whose philosophy is “local first, organic wherever possible, with Aloha always”. The house bread is fantastic. And we both adore the ahi tartare on top of a small risotto cake – one of the most delicious things we had on the trip. It is all tasty, fresh and nicely presented by enthusiastic and friendly staff. The pappardelle and they are silky smooth.
Tina Rogers
A beautiful place to have lunch or dinner with great craft cocktails. The prices are a but high for the portion sizes but the flavors are great. They do have a tendency to use a bit heavy on the salt.
Bonnie Carawan
Great servers! The tuna tartare was yummy as was the mozzarella. The pulled pork pasta dish was the best!
Steve
Went for lunch & had the grass fed beef burger. Was a bit dry but that normal for grass fed beef. However the didn't have to serve it on a toasted dried out bun. Might as well been chewing sawdust
Butter Lover
Worst breakfast on Waialae. If a restaurant can't cook bacon chances are they can't cook period! Beware of Towns Burn't Bacon.

Fantastic restaurant! Great service and great food. Imaginative food pairings- delicious! Been there twice in the last month- very consistent.

Our first visit was good, will return. We made an 8:30 reservation and were running 20 mins late. They offered to hold our table until 9:00. When we got there, our table was not ready, but they got it ready and we were seated almost immediately. Serve was prompt and attentive. The crowd was mostly 20-40-somethings, hip crowd. We really liked the decor, our wine, and the food. It was curious that the staff was dressed in what appeared to be their own (somewhat ratty) t-shirts and jeans??? Unfortunately, they were out of the gnocchi, which the waiter probably suspected when he asked me for my second choice (when I ordered). I had initially ordered the gnocchi, a side of fries, and an arugula salad. So when it switched over to my second choice of steak, it came with...you guess it...fries and a side of arugula. A little more attention by the waiter would have resulted in better food choices for me because I ended up with two fries, two arugula salad/sides, and a steak. In retrospect, I wish he would have asked me if I still wanted those particular sides, since they were to go with the gnocchi and not the steak. But...they were busy and he probably didn't notice. We didn't have enough room for dessert, so I can't comment on that, but we liked the place enough to return in the future. Quite honestly, the bad reviews from 2011 are surprising to me b/c we didn't have those experiences at all.

Lite. If you're looking for tasty food, just not much of it, this is the place for you. I guess you could order 2 entrees.

I will never go back to this restaurant! It took 15 min to get greeted, 45 min to order & was there over 2 hours for lunch! Not to mention our waiter was rude... The food was not good enough to win me over.

Food was excellent. Great local produce and interesting combinations. Nice casual but slightly trendy atmosphere. Will definitely be going back!

Just tried it tonight. The waitress is really nice but we had to wait forever for the food. The food was good and it was something different. Just anticipate a good 2.5 hours for dinner.
Goose
Not too bad. Not my favorite place, but they serve up some decent fare.
Natasha
The food was pretty good but service was a little too slow. Also I ordered the pan fried chicken and it was great but someone else on my table ordered it but it had no sauce or the same garnishes as mine and the waiter we asked barely helped with this problem. But the waiter was nice and served us well the food just came slow and it was pretty good. The only thing stopping me from not going back there is the food.

Totally down with Town. The Ahi taretare on polenta is too yummy to share. Had the striploin with fries. No. Not just fries...fries from the deepest darkest recesses of guilty pleasures for the palate.
Jodi
The food at town was very good. Our waiter was nice, but the pace was pretty slow. My only complaint is the $2 charge for "more bread.". The first round is free, then anything after that is not... I have never seen a restaurant of this kind (and at these prices) charge for more bread, ridiculous! But, the overall experience was good, and the food was really good. Definitely a great find for a foodie, and an unexpected find in Hawaii.

More than decent. Usually fairly satisfied when we come to Town. Had one very bad experience with an idiot for a server, but I think he's been let go because I haven't seen him since. Servings typically fall on the smaller side, but they do try to make up for it with taste. If given a choice, I usually opt to dine down the road at 12th Ave Grill.

Great experience. We went to Town on our last night in Oahu. We especially enjoyed the fish and chips appetizer, salads, gnochhi, risotto, and chicken. The steak was expensive (it's listed on the menu as $2/ounce and the portion served was 27 ounces or $54) and a little chewy for my taste, but otherwise everyone loved the food, atmosphere, and service. Great drinks, too!

Spotty service. Over-priced dinner. Good for lunch if you have a few hours to spare. The downtown sister location always seems much better. Great local and organic choices though. Skip the coffee.
Ms Cris
It was a good stop for a casual Saturday morning breakfast. The breakfast burrito was good and the banana pancakes were excellent.

Finding a good neighborhood restaurant on O'ahu can be difficult. Unless your neighborhood is Kaimuki. Town is a comfortable oasis where the food takes center stage. The freshest local ingredients find their way onto the menu that is changed so frequently that the old menus are recycled into coasters for your drinks. Expect your server to great you by saying "tonight we are featuring." Wonderful.

Local Dish. Great local flavors. Great atmosphere. Finally something of quality that isn't just for the tourists. I have really enjoyed the healthy but yummy dinners. Love popping in for a breakfast bite. Great coffee. Great egg samdwiches.

This plate of spicy fried beans came as a recommendation from our server and for good reason. These were delightfully crunchy on the outside while tender within. The natural flavor of the bean is well complemented with a spicy kick. The remoulade contributes a little fattiness along with a contrasting note of tang.

A perennial Hale Aina Award winner for top restaurants since it opened in 2005, Chef-Owner Ed Kenney’s Town Restaurant is one of the pioneers in providing local, organic (“when possible”) food in Hawaii.

One of the restaurants my family frequents religiously is Town, since it is close to our house and promises “local first, organic whenever possible, with Aloha always.” Their breakfast burrito was a staple when I was in high school: my mom used to bring one home for my sister and me, along with orange juice and iced coffee, after her early morning tennis sessions.
Out Last Night
So I'll start my review with my final verdict: I LOVE Town!!! It's a quintessential local restaurant; the ambience, location and food creates an inviting experience highlighting Hawaiian hospitality with locally grown organic ingredients and innovative combinations that can only be conceived here on this heavenly island of dreams. Located on the corner of of a mixed-use, res/comm neighborhood, Town is housed in charm and quaintness of a modern island cottage; adorned in holiday festivity, the truth warmth of this dining venue shone brightly through its large windows with the liveliness of happy diners being entertained and I was psyched!

Town is one of the restaurants known for their local food cuisine. Their concept is "Local first, organic whenever possible, with Aloha always". What a great theme!

One of the often-recommended restaurants to try in Honolulu is Town, the local-organic casual restaurant that opened in 2005. I've been trying to get to this place every time I visit Hawaii, and only got as close as its sister restaurant ( Downtown@HISAM ). The restaurant, opened by Chef Ed Kenney, has attracted diners with its promise of "local first, organic whenever possible, with Aloha always." It's located in Kaimuki, an older neighborhood on the west end of Honolulu that serves as an incubator for some of the most innovative restaurants in town. The neighborhood is also close to where my nephew works, so I made plans to meet him for lunch, along with my sister (his mom) and my Mom. Town, decorated with contemporary Hawaiian artwork, wasn't too crowded for lunch, but still we were tucked away in the back. Slow-roasted pork with polenta and salad ($16) The menu spotlights various local ingredients, such as Ma'o lettuc
