Review Nanzan Giro Giro - Honolulu

Went there a few times for birthdays. The food is amazing. The menu is unique and it definitely has more character to it than most of the restaurants on the island. Love the communal vibe where you can make conversations with everyone. This makes the place welcoming.

Honestly saying, food was good and tasty and I liked the vibe in the restaurant. However, I expected more of “Sushi” type of Omakase but foods served there was more of cooked dishes. Amount of food hmm… was okay for me but not like ‘Oh I’m full’. However, I can’t complain that the price was cheap enough for course meal. Chef seemed dedicated to serve good food, just wasn’t my expectation of Omakase. If I lived in Hawaii, I’d go for anniversary for the vibe.

An amazing Kaiseki. The open kitchen hides nothing, so you can see the tram create your meal with an efficient precision. The food is light and delicate. Fish forward, the protein was beautifully cook. However, what shined for me was the broths and the vegetables. The team was warm and would stop by and chat for a bit.

Good kaiseki experience. The food was outstanding and really well made. Great option for anniversary dinners.

A very upscale kaiseki style dinner establishment despite the modest industrial like venue. The monthly changing set menu is usually a well thought out and perfectly executed progression of japanese based tasting portions. Customers are given the standard choice of six courses or nine. Either choice will leave you very satisfied. Plan on staying about two hours to complete your dining experience.

This was something amazing. Should be 6 stars. Food, service, atmosphere, was out of this world. One of the top 10 dining experiences I've ever had. We had the wine and sake sampler with our course meal. Just to be clear this is fine dining, but they did ask us if we had any allergies.

It is my first time to taste kaiseki course. I assume foods are kind of fusion of Japanese and western food but the taste was very impressive. Especially their tofu fry and green onion sauce was genius. Ochazuke at the end was really great. 👌

What a hidden gem this place is. If you want a true taste of Japanese cuisine you have to try this place. Every month there is a new set menu prepared by chef “Yoshi”. Everything from the food to the serving plates was exquisite.

Great kaiseki but not the best, with warm and attentive service. Decor is unassuming. We had the 6 course set plus desserts. Overall a good mix of local and Japanese ingredients and good progression of food.

We had a great time here for a birthday celebration! From the September 2023 menu, we loved the ahi tuna and black cod courses the most. The riesling wine pairing with the black cod was perfection. For a tasting menu, the portions were generous and satisfying. We enjoyed watching the service from the kitchen bar, and our servers were very friendly and knowledgeable. The serve ware was also very precious and memorable; I believe the guests sitting next to us purchased a few pieces. The pace of the meal could have been a little more relaxed for our taste, and it would have been nice to have seen the wine pairing integrated into the food menu to know when and what wine to expect. Overall, fantastic!

Six course meal was awesome. A nine course option is available as well but the six course option was super filling. Food quality was amazing.

It was my second time at Nanzan Giro Giro, and if I could rate it a 6 I absolutely would! Everything is perfect, from the creative and perfectly executed food to the friendliness and expertise of every single team member, without forgetting the really nice decor, comfort and all the details involved (like the lovely ever-changing plates and tableware). An absolute must in Honolulu.

The Kaiseki is amazing and the service is great! Each dish is served in beautiful ceramics, and the servers are very friendly. The price is very fair as well. The layout of the restaurant is very nice since you can see everything that's happening in the kitchen, from cooking to plating, to dishwashing and drying. I highly recommend this place!

Amazing Kaiseki experience, recommended by multiple friends so we HAD to go! We called in just a couple days before, and were able to secure reservations for dinner. Everything was so well-balanced and showcased each ingredient at its best. Chefs were attentive and so evidently passionate about their work, it was inspiring to watch.

This was a true experience. The menu was so unbelievably unique. The ingredients were of the finest and freshest quality. The service was outstanding and it was just so much fun! I will 100% be going back the next time I’m on the island. I would like to make it a goal to visit their restaurants in Japan and France as well!

We walked into the restaurant soaked in salt water shivering like wet dogs only to be welcome by kind staff. And we had the most wonderful meal on the island that we can never forget. We will definitely come back next time visiting Oahu.

Amazing service. The staff was super friendly and made sure we had a great time. This was a more modern take of the kaiseki style Japanese cuisine. I prefer a more traditional style but everything here was delicious. My favourite dish was the sawara with somen noodles in gomae sauce. The orange marmalade cake was moist and just the right amount of sweetness.

This place is awesome. All of the chefs are friendly and would like to share how they made the food with customers. The food quality is amazing as well with quite good value. I am so impressed with the soup Shiroko (白子) tempura dish. This is the top place that I will definitely visit again for my next trip to Hawaii!

Good food but not great. You would feel surprised at first but after few courses you would feel repetitive since the flavoring are similar across courses. Also I had better Kaiseki in Bay Area before. Overall it worths 4 stars but not 5 IMO. Would still recommend ppl to come but I won’t come again. Highlight for me is the soup.
