Review Morimoto Asia Waikiki - Honolulu

Great food and wonderful ambiance. Nestled above the main strip in Waikiki, chef Morimoto does it again with his great menu. This restaurant focuses on Japanese, Chinese, and Thai dishes served family style. We had the dim sum sampler, the black pepper beef, and the black cod which were all delicious. I have to say the dim sum sampler is nothing incredible so I recommend trying something else however it was still very good. The star was the black cod which had great flavor.

The food was amazingly delicious at Morimoto Asia. The atmosphere was relaxing with good energy and vibe. The staff was friendly, and our server was knowledgeable, pleasant, and accommodating. My 11 year old son, husband and I enjoyed all the shared family style dishes. We ordered the green beans, spicy tuna crispy rice, mapo tofu, BBQ black cod & black pepper beef. My husband loved the beef dishes, so juicy with loads of flavors. The cod was my son's favorite dish, very soft buttery fish that melts in your mouth. The spicy tuna crispy rice was delicious appetizer with great flavors. The mapo tofu was lovely too with small chunks of tofu mixed in. Celebrating our wedding anniversary, we enjoyed the Morimoto tiramisu, which was so smooth & decadent with loads of flavor.

Morimoto Asia is a more casual, family style version of the Morimoto dining experience compared to its NYC location. We tried the steak, Peking duck, yakisoba, angry Thai lobster. Duck and lobster was delicious! Yakisoba was mid (we got it as a more kid friendly option). Steak was ok (but I prefer the steak in NYC). I mentioned in my reservation - it was my 10th wedding anniversary - the staff kept asking me at check in and at the table if we were celebrating a special occasion so we had to repeat ourselves. Server never offered anything to commemorate (like a special occassion dessert etc) until another server flagged it and brought it to our table AFTER we already were served our dessert we bought (super awkward). Otherwise service was very prompt and timely. Dessert wasn’t great (the one we paid for and the ice cream treat comped). I wouldn’t go back again — for the price you pay, I’m expecting all dishes to hit 🔥

This is my second experience dining at Morimoto Asia Waikik. This time I did an early dinner reservation on the 14th of October for my birthday. I'd planned (for about a decade) on doing this birthday at 21 in Manhattan but it closed and the dishes at Morimoto are just outstanding, so instead of flying to JFK I flew to O'ahu. We had two different Carpaccios, both divine as well as a Wagu roll that was (for the second time) fantastic. Of note, the old fashioned is finished tableside and is a unique experience. The one of particular note though is a dish most view as the starter that doesn't get noticed. Hot and Sour Soup. The Hot and Sour Soup is absolutely the best I've ever had. It's not a flagship dish but it's certainly worth trying. I almost enjoyed it more than some of the other dishes but they were so over the top it wasn't possible. If I could have that for lunch on a cold Seattle winter day I'd do it all the time.

Good food, good atmosphere. We have been to several Morimoto restaurants and I have to say this one was good but not my favorite. I will say the sticky ribs were great along with the gyoza. Mains were pretty good. I would certainly want to try more of the menu and it was definitely good enough to come back

This dining experience was long-anticipated and was definitely our favourite dining experience and a highlight of our trip to Hawaii. My daughter Shelby and I have been amazed at the quality of food challenges on the Iron Chef series and as fans, when we saw that Iron Chef Morimoto had a restaurant in Waikiki, we decided to book it for our last night in Honolulu, prior to leaving for Hawaii. The staff, particularly Ken and Captain, were truly charming and highly professional. The menu in itself is a work of art. We had the most beautiful orange chicken and the signature dessert, the spectacular chocolate sphere, which we shared. We both loved these selections. The orange chicken was the best I have had for depth of flavour and it was presented superbly. It's such a classy restaurant with a lovely atmosphere. We were treated so well and were given a beautiful, autographed dessert menu from Masaharu Morimoto, which is going to be framed on our wall. Thank you so much. If we ever visit Hawaii again, we will be back.

Stumbled upon this place walking by with wife and kiddos and it said Happy Hour from 5-6pm everyday, it was 540 so we went in. Lovely beautiful and well attired ladies welcomed us in beach clothes and stroller. The Happy Hour menu is small but everything on it was super delicious and I’d say an adequate amount for price Charged so I’d say it was a bargain when you combine quality, amount and atmosphere of the place. The duck fat fries were THE BEST fries I’ve had. The nachos were yummy Asian/Mexican fusion, the pork dumpling was fluffy full of subtle flavors and slightly sweet. The Tokuyaki was delicious and perfectly fried. Not on the Happy Hour Menu but still enjoyed was the pork ribs, $16 for 3 was well worth it as it full of flavor, meat fell off the bones and sauce was exceptional. The lychee Nigori Sake was a perfect drink to go along with the food as well. The rum drink on the Happy Hour Menu was also very very good.

The food, service and view was fabulous. The sticky short ribs were tender, juicy, finger licking explosion in my mouth, the fried rice a perfect balance of flavors, and the orange chicken juicy, tender, and perfectly cooked. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. It's a must eat when in Hawaii

Wow… exceptional in every way! You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. The staff was not only so friendly but they were very attentive. I will 100% be coming back and bringing family!

I went during Happy Hour (5-6pm); got the takoyaki, duck fat fries, rosé, spicy tuna with crispy rice, and mapo tofu. HAPPY HOUR MENU is average at best: Takoyaki was still frozen in the middle so I sent it back. I was hoping they’d send out a fresh one but they didn’t. At least they took out the order from my receipt. Duck fat fries were ok. No taste and soft fries. Rosé was ok. Not memorable or anything special. I didn’t finish. MAIN MENU is where the focus should be: Spicy tuna crispy rice was very tasty with the spicy tuna and crispy rice. Mapo tofu is one is the best I’ve had in my entire life. They make the rice to order so that took a bit longer to get to the table. Mapo tofu is not spicy at all and there’s so much flavor. The tofu is so silky and tasty.

Okay food yet not exceptional. The crispy bread in taco and sushi apetizers, took away too much of the flavour of the tuna in out opinion. The main dish pad thai was delicious! A bit weird: asked about the occasion (BD) yet never a reference afterwards. Why ask and create expectation if nothing happens?

We had dinner here last night and it was just an ok experience. It’s not your usual Morimoto’s menu or the menu was more Chinese themed dishes rather than Japanese. Staff was welcoming and our server team were both friendly and provided good service - especially Olli. Lychitini was made well, it was great tasting and mild on the alcohol. Though the portion was underserved. I feel the glass was 2/3 rather than the full portion. The mai tai cocktail variation were also ok. The hot and sour soup was a bit bland and lacked flavor but was spicy. Our server forgot to bring the miso soup ordered or misunderstood the request so we couldn’t try this. Dumplings were tasty but a bit salty. Noodle was overly saucy as you can see in the picture. However, it was tasty and on the sweeter side. The spicy tuna and crispy rice was just ok, nothing to rave about. House fried rice was also flavorful and so was the deep fried fish. Fish portion was on the smaller side and not what we expected. Overall it was an ok experience and below expectations for the Morimoto’s brand.

Amazing food, ambiance, and service! BBQ black cod was definitely the star and really loved the black pepper beef, although the dimsum sampler wasn’t really anything special

What can you say about a place where you can watch the sunset overlooking beach, while having an upscale dining experience? It's pretty great. The wait staff is so well trained and what's more important, they seem like they Love working there! That's amazing in and of itself. The reviews on the Sticky Ribs were not lying. That's for sure one of the items where collectively everyone at the table said they'd come back for. It's braised and then flash fried before bathed in tweaked housing type sauce. The texture is super tender, not sure how they coaxed it to stay on the bone. Everything was good. Definitely go for the chocolate sphere. It rounds out the meal perfectly. I'm glad we tried it. Now, gotta stop by their downstairs ramen and sushi spot.

This is probably the most memorable meal I've had in Waikiki. The Roasted Duck is insanely good. So good in fact, that the people sitting next to me saw me devouring it and decided that was the dish to have. They also weren't disappointed. Wine and spirits selection is superb. Staff is intelligent and highly informed. Every dish comes with an excellent presentation and description. Highly recommend!

I barely have words to describe how incredible the whole experience was. Overall score: 10/10, dress your best, make a reservation online, and bring an appetite. Atmosphere: located just off Waikiki beach, on the second floor (just below is Momosan, also a Morimoto restaurant, but much more casual). At Morimoto Asia, expect both very well-dressed clientele and the more beach-ready folks. Food: what can I say here, other than this is the food I would request as a last meal. Between my companion and I, we had the A5 ishiyaki (certified wagyu strips that you cook yourself over a hot stone), their famous sticky ribs, and the BBQ blackened cod. The A5 wagyu was incredible, almost unbearably rich (I craved a salad to offset the beautifully fat, marbled meat!). If I have the opportunity to go again, I might try it as the surf and turf sushi roll (thin slices over top a sushi roll and hand-torched at the table). The sticky ribs were, of course, top-notch. The order comes with 3-4 ribs, but you can specify the number of ribs that you'd like. The ribs are slow cooked to perfection and then fried. Sticky, sweet, and falling off the bone. I could have died happy eating those. Finally, we also had a BBQ blackened cod-- this was exceptional, perfectly prepared (the fish was tender and rich, and offset beautifully by the macadamia nuts and baby bok choi). Of course, I could hardly eat any after the incredibly filling ribs and A5, but I still appreciated the little bites I grabbed. Note that food comes out as soon as it's prepared, everything is a la carte, and you can order in rounds (a bit like the grazing dim sum experience, smaller dishes that you can take your time with while chatting and sipping on drinks). Speaking of drinks, we both got the smoked old fashioned and it was exceptional (hand-torched glass at the table to pour in smoke, before pouring the cocktail in). Fabulously smooth and rich. Easily 10/10. Service: special thanks to Sebastian, our wonderful server. Exceptionally deft, inviting, and knowledgeable. I love when you can tell the waitstaff are clearly served the food as well-- the enthusiasm and knowledge they have enhances their ability to recommend dishes for different moods and palates. Our glasses were never empty thanks to the watchful eyes of the water attendant, and Sebastian never skipped a beat when making his rounds (not too frequent and not neglectful). Absolutely an 11/10. Facilities: bathrooms are tucked away by the elevators (if you're coming up the stairs and face the host stand, to the left is a little bar island and further in are the restrooms). The ladies room has two stalls, one standard and one handicapable. Clean, sufficient soap and paper towels, if an odd collection of toilet paper rolls (but I'd rather have too many than not enough). 10/10. Overall: I loved every moment. Breathtaking food that showed skill and attention, wonderful people, and not a thing was disappointing. The bill, before tip, was about $260 for all the aforementioned (two cocktails, 5 ribs, 4oz. A5 wagyu, blackened cod). I highly recommend the experience!

If you been to Moromoto’s in USA, you’ll be disappointed. It’s really a Cactus Club that serves Asian food. I guess they were going for casual. service was great, a couple boo boo’s butcthey worked very hard to make them right. Of 5 dishes 4 were spectacular especially crispy pork appetizer. Unfortunately angry lobster was mediocre. Lobster was small and not much meat and although was supposed to be fresh didn’t taste it. Duck Broth Ramen was amazing! I could eat 2 bowls myself and be happy with that as a meal! Nice staff made up for the lobster, I’d eat there again, 4 out of 5 dishes were awesome, that’s a pretty good sucess rate!

Best meal ever.. fantastic environment, amazingly outstanding food. The staff knew everything about every meal. Certainly a place for a special meal. We had sticky ribs to start and crispy pork belly These were so good. We both had the Angry Lobster for main, this was AMAZING. So many flavours and alot of meat..... actually thought i was going to roll all the way back to the hotel i was so full. A little on the pricey side for what we ordered but menu is extensive and reasonable otherwise. Great night

The food was not very good, the sushi tasted old and the orange chicken was bland. They charged $10 for each bottle of water without telling us there was a charge for water! Luckily they only brought 2 bottles of water..the service was great, the food just was not
