Review La Mariana Restaurant & Bar - Honolulu

Saif
We were looking for an authentic tiki bar experience and found it. We started with a couple of my ties and the ahi poke was delicious. The fish and chips was okay. Our server Chelsea could not have been more pleasant. Great place to watch sports as they had a number of televisions featuring sports ball.

This is a wonderful hidden gem. The staff are attentive and friendly. The menu is simple but delicious. You cannot beat the ambience of this place and I look forward to coming back.

La Mariana deserves better reviews. The atmosphere is natural a 10 and service was wonderful. Everyone was so nice. As far as food, you just need to have expectations set. This is not a gastropub, some cutting edge kitchen, or a high end restaurant. That said the food was excellent 👌 We had the ono fish and chips, fish tacos, and shrimp cocktail. Everything tasted good, better than we expected. Last, and most importantly, the drinks! Amazingly good, strong and underpriced. I'm honestly surprised the bar isn't packed. I can only assume it's because of the off the beaten path location. This place deserves to be on all itineraries for visitors and revisited for locals who may have forgotten about it.

Fun little bar near the airport. We had a long layover and decided to have some dinner and drinks here. They were out of tuna so most other options were fried. We had the nachos and shrimp cocktail. Drinks were great! Mai tai with 151 on top!

Our first time back since Covid and the remodel. Gorgeous! Our band Intoxika played here on Monday nights from 2018 till March 2020. Now...there is no where to put a band. 😭 The remodel took care of that. Surprised that more attention was not paid to the restrooms...but serviceable. We still have fans ask when Intoxika will return to LaMariana..... We wish Judith and crew well in their business recovery. 🥰

Always stop here to/from the airport because the location on the water and atmosphere are perfect. Just annoying that they were out of Ahi (in hawaii?) and mostly everything else is fried, so it's either sandwiches or pupus, and definitely need more staff to help keep up, but everyone there is always friendly and tried to keep up with all the tables and orders.

We ate lunch here today. Last time we were here was Sept 2022 and we weren’t thrilled with the ahi on our salad. However, we asked about it today and the bartender helped us figure out that we needed to order the Cajun seared ahi for the salad. We did, and it was spectacular. Just like before the pandemic. So fresh and tender and perfectly spiced. The salad was fresh, too. Then we shared a shrimp cocktail which was also great. 8 good-sized shrimp that were very fresh-tasting (I don’t know if they had been frozen, but they tasted great). The drinks, service and atmosphere were excellent. You can’t beat La Mariana for authentic tiki bar atmosphere! We left as very happy campers.

The Tiki Bar of all Tiki Bar's. If it has been done. It was probably done here first. This place is a must stop. Otherwise, can you really say you know Tiki?

Second time here. Staffing is much better. Everything is timely and tasty. We had the Mai Tai, Zombie and Navy Grog to drink. Chips and salsa, then onto the pork nachos.the a.ount of park was disappointing, but there was lots of cheese. Still love this place. Oh, I believe the refreshed the women's restroom too.

Great location right on the water. Perfect location to see the sunset. Indoor and outdoor seating. The waterfall table is pretty awesome for large groups. I went everyday for lunch, the burgers hit the spot and so did the fish and chips

The OG spot for tiki drinks. Totally hidden away, but amazing. Don't skip the gift shop - they've got one-of-a-kind tiki mugs by one of the premier artists in the world.

Atmosphere and food are two different subjects. Super cool atmosphere. Very classic Tiki feel and the service is great. Super friendly help. The food is good but not amazing. We got the cheeseburger with fries. The burger had solid taste and flavor but not incredible. Fries were nicely crispy without being over cooked. We also had the Mahi Mahi and side of mushrooms. Mahi was very fresh, melt in your mouth and garlic-y. Mushrooms also garlic-y but we're not complaining because we love garlic. It's fairly priced. The menu is A LOT smaller than it used to be. The staff said it's a staffing issue as to why they can't offer more just yet so perhaps later in 2023 there will be more available. Portions are on the smaller size but everything is fresh and seasoned well. We really enjoyed our time here and, in our opinion, is a must visit

Great original tiki bar a bit off the touristy Ala Moana/Waikiki area. Great drinks, good food reasonably priced and a neighborhood feel.

Absolutely fantastic! This place is a true gem. The tiki-themed decor exceeded all expectations and added to the wonderful ambiance. The service was exceptional, and I can't praise the drinks enough – truly top-notch! The culinary experience, from the mouthwatering food to the delectable desserts, was an absolute delight. Without a doubt, this spot has earned its place as one of our top favorites on the island!

This is a classic Hawaiian spot you have to visit, by the marina, Decor is nice, Cocktails are great, nothing crazy, I had a fish sandwich and coconut shrimp that was delicious, a mai-tai and a painkiller, all good :)

Really fantastic atmosphere with a great view. Good food and good drinks. Very limited parking in an industrial area. Really nice place to catch a Hawaiian sunset with a drink in your hand.

Very slow for service. Food was good, but in the past better. First drink was good, second was horrible. Told it was a new bartender that came on. Ordered different drink and was so sweet with syrup couldn’t drink. There was another group that walked out because after receiving drinks, waitress never returned for food order. Other tables were served first that were just seated. I even had to go find our waitress to pay our bill because she never returned and we were having to wait.

Nice place good location crazy strong zombies 151 proof rum. The Mai Tai’s work at too. Our friend told us to skip the food as a hidden miss.

Delicious food and drinks. Bad service and very slow. I was seated by the hostess quickly, immediately went to the bathroom and when I returned other people were seated at my table - about 5 to 10 mins after being seated. She corrected her mistake but wasn't especially friendly. Food and drinks were good, but they don't check how you are doing for long periods of time. I wanted to order a second cocktail but waited for over 30 minutes. I was even trying to wave down a server to catch someone's attention. Finally caught a server's attention and she was nice enough. So I would go back, just don't expect good service or to be served quickly.

Great place, great drinks! The calamari is outstanding! Fun place to catch up with friends! I’ll be back

Had a great going away dinner here last night. We arrived early and they sat us at a table by the water why we waited for our party so we could order appetizers and drinks. After party arrived we had a great dinner and our waitress was on top of it. We were a table or ten and sat by the live music. The band came over to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. Thank you for a wonderful night.

All day 5 stars. The atmosphere the cocktails and the food are real, yummy, perfect and will add happiness to your life. This place not to be missed on your list. It makes a great ending to a North Shore sled guided jeep tour as you renter the city OR go on your way to the airport, outbound. Heck, next time immthere daily.

I used to go to this place for the drinks and atmosphere, but I’m now going for the food!!! The combo curry was delicious and the coconut shrimp were as good or better than my favorite beachfront luxury hotel! At about 1/2 the price. La Mariana is a classic which SHOULD be on the list of historic places. Honolulu’s original Tiki Bar!

Always awesome to go here. Perfect place to wait for someone coming in to or last visit before leaving from HNL, five minutes and you are there, already past the traffic. Jen (waitress) has the perfect Aloha attitude to complete your island experience.

We have been several times ... lunch has the best service . Dinner staff is incredibly rude and slow. It is a must visit however ... go at lunchtime !!

I go quite a bit, as the place is close to the airport, & I'm there often. Great ambiance, good food, solid drinks, & friendly service. Top notch place!

This place is a hidden gem. You won’t be disappointed!

I just love this place. Like being in old time Hawaii. Food, atmosphere, prices all great. Took some out of town visitors & everyone raved about it being a fun place for dinner. We’ll keep coming back as long as it remains the same.

Had dinner there 1/15/18. Great food, attentive waitstaff and a page out of the 50/60’s. Old time tiki bar, nice view of personal pleasure boats. Decorations and landscaping are awesome. Want to go back before I leave Honolulu. It’s a place I want to return to time & time again!

Totally classic spot best place to go landing back on Oahu or before a trip away.. Authentic as it comes for guests to the islands.. Poke broke da mouth!! So cool..

Old school Tiki Bar/Restaurant. Great live music and yummy food at great prices. Don’t forget the mai tais and zombies. Make reservations on weekends. Way off the beaten path. Worth the trek out to sand island. Beautiful sunsets!

This is one of those place you find out by word of mouth. Though they essentially made the mai tai famous, you wouldn’t know it based on its location. None the less, the atmosphere is exactly what you would want for a tiki bar. Don’t expect a breeze coming off the water in the summer months. It does get quite warm.
The service was hospitable and nice. The food was awesome. Great flavor and presentation. The mahi was a tad over cooked but still good. I will come back to this place.

Can you say tiki bar? This hidden gem is quite literally hidden in an industrial area north of Waikiki, so we would never have known about it unless a local (friend) had taken us there.

On a marina, hence the name, this place screams "tiki" inside and out. The drinks are reasonably priced, umbrellas and all, about $6 for a pint of draft IPA, $7.50 for a mai tai, and $6.50 for a piña colada. The only downside in the bar was my wife's pineapple juice that came from a bottle instead of being fresh squeezed, as it should be in the pineapple capital of the world. The bar and restaurant are both open to the marina, so there are plenty of sea breezes and views to be had.

The food is also reasonably priced with a nice selection of salads, seafood, steaks, burgers, and chicken. I was in the mood for the Prime Rib (12 oz - $26 and 14 oz - $27), but I prefer the end cuts. Unfortunately, they were out of end cuts at 5:30 when we arrived, a bit odd considering how early it was, so they get a 1 BOMB deduction and I had to order a steak. The eight ounce Sirloin Steak ($20) with pepper gravy ($2 extra) came with a small scoop of mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli. The steak was perfectly cooked and very tender, the gravy savory and peppery. Not a bad steak for $20. My wife's Sauteed Scallops ($20) came in a butter sauce with sliced mushrooms on top of a bed of linguini and topped with parsley. The six scallops were nicely browned, a cook Gordon Ramsey would have been proud of, and the sauce light, yet savory with the linguini cooked perfectly al dente.

It would have been nice if the dinners had come with soup or salad, but a small side salad or bowl of soup can be had for a mere $4, much less than most other Honolulu eateries. They only bring you one bread roll each when you arrive and they look like they come out of a plastic bag, so the least they could have done was warm them up. The scoop of mashed potatoes was also rather small, not quite enough to match the steak or the prime rib had it been available.

A bit less than perfect, La Mariana Sailing Club has a charming Polynesian personality and is in a great location with good food and service at a reasonable prices ... HOOAH!

CombatCritic Gives La Mariana Sailing Club 7 Bombs Out Of 10 ... More Bombs Are Better!

I went on National Cheeseburger Day and as a Parrothead found it necessary to checkout this place. I started with cocktails and ended with cocktails off their list. I partook in a few Zombies. The burger was alright, but the decor was great, and the drinks were amazing. Overall, I had a great time!

The best tiki style bar we found in Honolulu (and we visited heaps) La Mariana is the real deal and has history worth reading into. The atmosphere, cocktails, music, and service is excellent but unfortunately the food wasn't great - not bad, just not great. The dishes we had didn't match the flair of the place. Still a must do when I'm Honolulu

Visit on 6 July 2014. Restaurant trap in the 1950's. We were a group of 18 with reservation. The restaurant was not rerady to serve and ran out of food. Also very bad managment and table service. Not a place to go. avoid at all cause. The state of the rest rooms was very bad. This place decor is a collection from some basement and garage. Only good thing were the local singers.

On our trip to Honolulu, we ate here two times. It's an amazingly eclectic piece of Honolulu from the 50's!! I love the decor and the food ain't bad either! The garlic edamame is to die for! The drinks- I had a piña colada, were well made! I highly recommend La Mariana for anyone stopping in Honolulu!!!!

We love it. We love the quaint feel of La Mariana. It is a place to come and relax and feel the laid back spirit of the island. The price is within reason and the fish, chip sand beer are great! The service maybe little slow due to understaffed servers, but they greet you with aloha. If you have time and want to get away from the hussle and bussle of Waikiki, I recommend you stop in and take in the beauty of something that is unique to the island. We live here and visit it frequently and we will make it a place to enlighten our out of town visitors of one of Hawaiis best kept secrets
Wina
Great ambiance! They have music at 6pm. Really cool place to take visitors.
Just Me
Amazing location. The setting couldn't be more beautiful. That's where the positive experience begins and ends. The service was almost nonexistant, the food was really not edible and the surroundings were filthy. If you want to experience the tiki bar feel go there for a drink and then have your meal elsewhere. We just so wanted to love this place and yet it is impossible to recommend a place with bad service and bad food. We couldn't even get a second beverage and once the meals were slammed down on the table, the server never even checked back with us until we flagged her down for our check. La Mariana is a famous place with rich history. I am so sorry to see the current management let it die an untimely death.

This was the perfect way to cap off a trip to the island. The atmosphere is a throw back to a sneaky hip Honolulu of old. The people are wonderful, the drinks are strong and the Ahi is to die for. This is now a must stop for our future trips to Oahu.
Fat Boy
Another 5-O place. Food is great and atmosphere is something right out of Hawaii 5-O. Marina and airport right there just waiting for the deal to go down.... Lots of industry in the area to complete the look but it's safe and well lit.

Just AWESOME! A MUST go and eat and see!. Perfect way to begin our vacation. Super good Mai Tai's and Zombies. Food was good too.....fantastic environment. we just love this place and will return as many time as we can!

Looking for a rustic by gone setting. Has to be one of the best kept secret in Honolulu. If you are looking for the non typical tourist place to go; this has to be the place. Atmosphere reminds you of an earlier time. Good food, friendly service
Danica
Beautiful, quaint location. Decent food, great prices. A MUST at least once, before the last ofthe original tiki bars is gone! No need for membership... Open to the public!
Steve Foster
Good food at a great price. You have to be a member to eat there but no hassle to join (free and easy). This is one of the last old Hawaii places around.
