Review Kamehameha Bakery Inc - Honolulu

The donuts here are amazing. As good as their reputation says they are. We loved them so much after our first visit we went back the NEXT day to get more. Although we love ube, coconut, and poi... the ube, coconut cream poi, and strawberry glaze were nice but not amazing. However the butter cream, apple fritter, brownies and cream cheese filled may be the best donuts we've ever had IN OUR LIVES. Must must must go!

Definitely would recommend trying poi and strawberry malasadas, definitely a different type compared to your Portuguese malasada from Leonard’s Bakery so recommend trying both! They are a little on the sweeter side so you can probably only eat a few before you submit to a kanak attack They also have a wide selection of other baked goods and some canned soft drinks/bottles. Price: Malasadas are a decent price and all the baked goods price is slightly different. The is a surcharge if using card. The bakery and get very busy especially first thing in the morning so I recommend going early if you plan to pick up for a larger group or office. You are able to preorder but you need to do it 24 hours in advance.

If we hadn't just eaten at Pancakes and Waffles a few doors down, we would have tried more here. I think almost everyone goes for the poi donuts, but the poi haupia is dakine (so good, I didn't get a pic before it was gone) ;)

This bakery is fantastic. There are so many options. It's hard to just pick a few things. So I got a box and filled it up with whatever I thought was good. I was not disappointed. These baked goods were great. The taro cinnamon roll was fantastic. There are so many options you can't leave with just one thing.

My first time here at Kamehameha Bakery. The place was very clean. The prices are reasonable, and the variety/selection was amazing. The staff was so helpful in helping me pick out my pastries. This is a great bakery if you are in the town area.

One of a kind! Everything is tasty and super fresh. They do large orders for pick up next day. Items do sell out so go early if you have a favorite.

The best bakery on Honolulu on the island is hands down, i have found heaven. If you have skipped this one, you missed out. Don't sleep on these ladies. The baked goods are light and airy. Im trying to figure out how to take a dozen of the banana nuts/pineapple. OMG!!!! People are so nice. There are plenty of great local shops!! Buy local with all my time on the island!! Gonna miss you!!!

Hands down earned that 5 star rating! I'd definitely say its one of the best bakeries I've been to. The poi donuts are to die for! The strawberry malasada was also one of my favorites! If you're here visiting and you need a sweet treat head on over it's so worth it!

One look at this place and you know it's a local's favorite spot. There are constantly people filing in and out of the place. The poi donuts and the long johns are must-get items. There are no name tags for the items on display, but don't panic! Ask the locals in line with you what their favorites are, or pretty much just point randomly at the spread and you'll be fine. No pictures will do the items justice, so I didn't post any (real talk though, we ate all of the goods without pausing to take pics... It's just too good).

We came here just to get some banana bread before our flight home and I’m so glad we stumbled upon here. It was buttery, moist, and exactly what we were looking for. All their other baked goods looked delicious and wish we could’ve tried a little of everything.

We only tried two things- the taro malasada are yummy but would but way better served fresh and hot. The taro bread bun with haupia filling was phenomenal, super fluffy and satisfying- definitely my favorite between the two :)

2/21/2021 My husband saw a video where someone was talking about the Chantilly Rolls so off we went. There was a lot of parking in the lot. When we got to the bakery, there was no line. Due to covid, they only allow three parties inside at a time. He picked two Haupia Malasadas and two Chantilly Rolls which came out to $4 and change. What great prices! I didn't try anything because I was overwhelmed with the amount of pastries that they offered. Next time, I'll be sure to look at the menu before we go. The ladies were friendly and boxed the pastries quickly. On the bottom of the store menu, they have an allergen notice that says products may contain dairy, eggs, gluten, and nuts. As we were leaving, the line outside had grown to about 15 deep. When we got home, I tried the Haupia Malasada. I'm not a fan of Malasadas at all but this one was light, not oily and dense, and the filling was heavenly! I'll be sure to get this the next time we go!

Look in regards to atmosphere, it absolutely is what you see. Bakery with take out only, incredibly friendly staff, and glass cabinets full of pastries. In terms of the pasteries?? HOLY SMOKES. Poi doughnut is 10/10 recommendation. Classic malasada is also wonderful (truthfully better service and malasadas than other popular stores around).

Home of the original poi glazed donuts—these are heavy!! 🍩 the haupia filled rolls and pastries are also good. Fyi, credit card purchases add an extra $0.50-something to the bill.

Easily in my "Top 5" places to stop by whenever I'm in town. Not sure what they put in their chocolate and poi donuts but they're hands down the best!!🤙🏽

NOTE: They are closed right now until Aug 22nd, 2023 I love this place but I went there this morning & they were closed! =‘[ Sucks cause their poi donuts are to die for and they have a lot of other great pastries too! Best bakery in town for the price!

Oh my goodness - deliciousness beyond WORDS!!! A must stop- come early. Staff was so helpful explaining selections. The selection was so amazing. Make sure to try the poi treats. Parking is challenging but worth the challenge. They do have two ten minute spots in front. Remember to take a number when you arrive.

The poi donut was delicious, probably the second best donut I’ve had - the first being Leonard’s custard malasada, but if this donut was served hot and filled with custard it would likely win. I would’ve liked to try the haupia filled poi donut but my stomach can’t handle coconut right now, I bet that’s really good. I ended up trying a couple other things, the long john which is a custard filled donut and it was fine but Leonard’s custard malasada knocks it out of the park by a mile. The glazed croissant was really tasty but way too sugary for my stomach. The butter roll was solid, it’s just like a dinner roll. The staff wasn’t really friendly but not rude either, they probably know that people will come there no matter what because the donuts are so good

Best donuts on the island! We had the poi glazed donut and the cream cheese glazed donut. They did not disappoint. I highly recommend giving them a try.

We were given these donuts on a jobsite from a owner of the house we were working on and I was like"Where did you get these donuts?" and it was the Taro donuts that were so fresh and so good! and he is like" Kam Bakery" in town they have the best taro donuts ever and he was right. So anytime we are in town we stop by here!

The taro haupia-filled donut rolls... jesus christ. This thing is unbelievably delicious. I'll definitely come back just for this haupia filling. The poi malasadas were good, but Leonards has much better texture hands-down.

It's only been a few months since we were in Hawaii and no place can compare to the poi donuts we had here. Beyond phenomenal and I look forward to traveling back and indulging.

Love all the donuts, especially the poi donuts! Employees super nice!

The best businesses in the world do at least 1 thing better than anyone else. For Kamahehamha Bakery it's their Poi Doughnuts. They are an Hawaiian institution that proudly uses the King's name. Love the new location. Pre-order by phone to be sure you get yours.
Natasha Campos Guastavino
A nice selection of pastries and breads! Lots of people are always pouring in, but service is quick and efficient :)
Bonnie-Gae Kaleikini
Sometimes the line it deceivingly long, but they move fast to get you what you need.

Social media is the best tool to get the word out to people. Watched a video on how they make Poi Glazed Doughnuts. The next day, I'm standing in line. Onolicious!!!! So good, that I went back again. They sure know what they're doing there.

Loooved the poi donuts! That’s all you need to order!

Poi malasadas FTW! Get there early because they run out!
