Review Walter's Basin - Holderness

We had such a nice time. Friendly service. Food arrived fast and was truly delicious. Atmosphere and the lake view is wonderful. We loved the scallop and pork belly appetizer.

We had dinner here and did not have reservations. Had to wait about 30 minutes, but that gave us time to walk down to the dock below. This restaurant is on little Squam lake. It is connected to big Squam lake, which is where the movie “On Golden Pond” was filmed in 1981. Everyone was extremely nice, and we ended up with a table directly overlooking the lake. Our server was wonderful and the food was very good. Would recommend this restaurant to others.

The restaurant is very popular on the weekend, if you do not want to wait, a weeknight would be an easier time to get a table. Parking is mostly limited to street parking. The restaurant has really nice seasonal decorations giving an inviting vibe. If you come before dark, there's a nice view of the lake. The ahi tuna wontons were a good appetizer with a nice wasabi aioli drizzled over with the sweetness of the seaweed salad. The steak tip salad had a really nice dressing and a good portion of steak. There was a little too much gorgonzola cheese that overpowered the flavor for my tastes. The seafood paella was really good with a good amount of seafood overall, it did only come with one shrimp.

Service was amazing. From the front door to the gentleman lighting the table 🕯. Wait staff (Alex) was attentive professional and not over hovering. Just right! The view... second to none. Think "on golden pond" My only complaint (which is my fault) is I left my leftovers at the table and went to the bathroom and I wish someone had mentioned it to me cuz I had so much pork schnitzel left that I was looking forward to eating. As well as dessert.

After hearing a friend declare that this was his entire family's favorite restaurant, it has been on my list of places to try for years. It was worth the hype. The food was excellent; the seafood paella was amazing. Great cocktails and a worthy beer list. The staff was incredible and the view of Squam Lake was truly unique and beautiful. We'll be back.

We went there in mid-October and the place had a gorgeous view of the lake and the mountain with fall colours at the back. The food was tasty and the staff was very polite and helpful.

The food was delicious, served by a friendly & courteous waitstaff in a clean restaurant with a great view of Squam Lake.

The staff here are the best. So friendly and good at their jobs. The food is fresh. So fresh that I took 1/2 of my Cobb salad home and it was still crispy and green and flavorful the next day. The rosemary fries are to die for. Everything is good. Our out of town friends love the clam chowder and lobster rolls

We had an enjoyable lunch at Walter's Basin this afternoon. We were seated at a table overlooking Little Squam. The Autumn sun was beating through the glass and made us very uncomfortable at first because it was like being in a greenhouse and the sun was blindingly bright even behind the braided blind. The restaurant would be wise to put some awnings over these south facing windows because their woven blinds provide no protection at all. Our server was very good. My wife ordered the Haddock Sandwich with an Arnold Palmer and I enjoyed the fish Tacos with a Sebago Red Ale. The tacos featured haddock with cabbage and a Siracha Aoili on a flour tortilla. The tacos also came with fries and a lemon wedge. I added the red onion my wife removed from her fish sandwich. That actually helped the otherwise somewhat bland tacos. The haddock was lightly breaded and perfectly fried so it was deliciously sweet and crisp. Maybe using coleslaw would make them more interesting than just plain white cabbage. My wife enjoyed her sandwich and a luscious Crème' Brulee for desert. We've been to Walter's Basin a number of times and keep coming back because the food is good and served in beautiful surroundings.

This was a our first visit after hearing about Walter's for several years and we were not disappointed. The setting is awesome and we sat at one of the tables near the window and had a great view of the lake, boats coming and going as well as the mountains in the distance. Also a great view of the sites where "On Golden Pond" was filmed. The service was great and our waitress was very patient with our party as we had one "finding it hard to choose from so many items" - LOL. The food was fresh, made to order and everyone was very happy with their choices. The desserts looked awesome but none of us had room. I, for one, will plan better and save room for dessert!!! I highly recommend that you visit Walter's when you are anywhere near the Lakes Region. We will return at least one more time before we head back south. Visit and enjoy!!!

The food here was really good! Really enjoyed the coconut mussels, the honey Sriracha wings, and the crispy half duck were great. The clam chowder was solid as well. Our waitress was great, over all a good experience. Recommend coming here if you're in the area

This is the top choice referred by my airbnb. Indeed, The food was delicious and the view was awesome. The business was good. So, you might need to wait if you don't have reservation. You can either wait at the bar or the rest area in front of of reception. It's a very comfy environment to enjoy your meal. The staffs were friendly and the service was good. Definitely recommend!....

Food was very good. Had the poutine, it was really good. The fries are really good. I had the fish and chips. Fish was very fresh and cooked well. Breading was good, but slightly thicker than I like.staff was very friendly and attentive. Atmosphere was ok, nothing special. We were there at night, but it looks like the view is great. Lots of seating.

We absolutely loved eating here, and would come back again. Our waiter was really friendly, and helpful in picking out what to eat. I had a delicious flounder sandwich special with a side of sweet potato fries.... YUMMY. Our view was amazing, we ate, chatted, and enjoyed the scenery. 10/10

Dinner is amazing. Lunch is a little meh. + good dinner portions + one of our favorite dinner places in Northern NH, we've never had a bad dinner + lots of options for many different eaters - the lunch menu is disappointing & portions are small Highly recommend: - duck - wings - PB trifle Steer clear of: - wasabi eggs

The lake is always a great view, no matter the weather. The food is always yummy and the staff is friendly and provide great service. Love the addition of the beach bar, and the recent renovations.

Great food, great atmosphere you are literally sitting in a room with two sides made of glass facing little Squam lake ! There is also a small deck area right on the dock level because this restaurant is boat accessable too !! Service is good and people are friendly We have been there many times and I have never had anything that I did not enjoy eating. Prices are a little high but not outrageous especially when you consider how much rent and/ or property taxes Etc must cost to be in that location directly on the lake
