I love this place. The Bayfront Kava Bar is such a great place to try Kava for the first time. You will meet with people who love showing Kava to someone brand new. Kava is a muscle relaxant but leaves you alert & clear headed. Even if you only have one shell of Kava in your whole life, you will also get one of the best night's sleep in your whole life. This place has fabulous atmosphere and you will be served Kava out of a real coconut shell.
Stop by for Kava but it was not available until 5pm, so we ordered coffee instead. It turned out to be one of the best cups of coffee. It was served as poured over. Coffee bean measured and ground, then 98C water poured over the coffee ground and filtered. Couldn't believe how flavorful it was. I did not know thevoyr over method until now.

One of the best aspects of Hilo's Bayfront Kava Bar is the ambience, the vibe. What a great place to just go in, sit down and relax. The owner of this oasis in downtown's otherwise dormant night scene seems to know everyon's name.
He serves up primarily a traditional Hawaiian ceremonial drink made from the Awa Root.
"Tastes like mud, yet makes ya feel euphoric." he says.
I think it's the next best thing to Cannabis, especially when that is not around. However they go very well together.
The Bayfront Kava Bar is not only one of the coolest and.most chill places to visit in downtown Hilo, this is the only other thing happenin' on any given night besides the typical bar scene.
Rumor has it they are expanding across the street in a month or so to a plush, garden oasis setting that is actually growing the ancient Awa Plant!
Looks like it works only after dark (was closed daytime many times when I checked it out). But the atmosphere is great. One minus: many iron chairs. Take some jackets to put on the chairs for comfy seating and enjoying kava and live music
We stopped by to try kava tonight. It was great. The owner was very cool. There was a variety of people at the bar and it was super chill. I will be sure to visit again next time I'm in town.

Wonderfilled place with exceptionally crafted herbal teas including kava (wonderful dreams) and mushroom (balancing of adrenal, pituitary and thyroid). Not your ordinary cafe.
Had such a great time here, it was our first Kava experience! Everyone was great and the atmosphere was so welcoming
Pretty strong kava and good price on the bowl. Some nice live jazz music when I was there on Thursday night.
