Review Ponds - Hilo

Nice place. Everything was good…..not great. I did enjoy my meal. The Cesear salad was good. I also had the seafood pasta……also good. The atmosphere was quite nice. A guy playing a guitar was very nice. My waiter did a great job. I loved seeing the Koi in the pond next to restaurant. I would come back.

Wonderful ambiance, beautiful view of the ocean, and exceptional service! Loved the live music and drinks were excellent drinks. Great spot for a date night or happy hour!

Watched a sea turtle swimming through the window as we enjoyed the best fish and chips for lunch. Fish was fresh and tasty. Staff was friendly and helpful. View from our table was spectacular.

What a great place. They were recommended to us. It did not disappoint. Great happy hour and daily specials. We sat by the window and watched the fish. Both of us loved our food and drink choices. Highly recommend.

Our family of five from Texas and Oklahoma visited Oahu and the Big Island for Spring Break! After a day of hiking Volcanoes, we had dinner at Ponds. We were probably not dressed quite right as we went straight there from the park, but we were seated right away. Once inside, we realized it was a nicer restaurant and a little on the pricey side. But the food was Amazing!! We had calamari to start with and steaks for our entree’s. We also received some rolls with our meal..also very good..light and fluffy!! The server was very good, refilled drinks without having to ask and very attentive. There was live entertainment that we enjoyed listening to and the views from our table were great!! Would definitely recommend and will return if/when we visit Hilo again!!

Been there twice during the trip. Ask the chef for the special today! Great drink, juicy steak! Nothing I would complain! Much better than the higher starred Thai food or pho in town.

Great meal and service. We ended up at the corner table with no reservation and it was fun. There was a fisher bird that came over and continued to fish while we were there. Good entertainment.

Ponds hilo is a unique dining experience as it is literally built over a pond where you can watch colorful koi and turtles swimming during dinner, which is quite relaxing. The staff is friendly and the food is delicious.

They used to have such a good Ceasar salad. It's quite mediocre now. The prime rib was good but fairway grill is better and less expensive. The clam chowder was decent nothing special. The garlic mashed potatoes were good, not spectacular but good. The veg medley was excellent, I really liked it actually. $92 for a prime rib lobster plate. Fun to feed the koi fish. Lovely music. Last time we were here it was better. I'll try once more.

Loved this place. Sat by open windows looking out over Ice Pond with families picnicking and children swimming, ducks and a turtle in the water below our window! The food was beautifully cooked and there was a great range on the menu. I had an appetizer as my main dish and it was more than enough. Our waitress was friendly and fun and we even met the chef :)

Atmosphere and service fantastic. Food not so much. We've been before. A long time ago and the food was great. Hopefully this was a one time thing.

Although this would usually be called a dive, it had a fun and friendly vibe as well as high quality food. Clams were well done, drinks were strong and cheap, $5.50 for a vodka soda. Great fish. Waiter was super friendly and brought the kids fish food to throw out to the Koi. Good people watching and view of the ponds. We all had a great time and highly recommend if you are in Hilo to check it out.

Food was very good, the staff are really friendly and kind. The table setting, environment, cleaniness all good. Only complaint is that they didn't let us know the price for the specials, we did not expect the lobster dish to be $70 per person when all the other entries were less than half the price. We had a great time but that was a very expensive meal.

Loved the food there, delicious and not too big portioned. They give you a complimentary appetiser but ours was so big we thought he accidentally sent out a dish to the wrong table. He could've said something like this is complimentary or something, we were so confused lol asked a lady what this was and that we didn't order it but she had no idea lol. So the server tries to up-sell their lobsters and stuff showing pictures - I don't like that lol. The dishes we got were escargot and marinara pasta. Both super delicious and very saucy pasta, loved them! Cocktails were very nice, the views were excellent although we went at night, big spacious area and beautiful live music. 4.5 stars! It was a great start to our stay in the Big Island.

It has all the things I like: great food, great service. Great atmosphere. If they aren't paying the local kids to entertain the guests with their jumping in the water, they should 😀 We had a great table where we could see the water and the koi pond. Most window tables have that view. The Crab encrusted opakapaka (pink snapper) was very good. The gumbo was good too but I preferred the snapper. I love cocktails and wished they could have made me an old fashioned but got a Manhattan instead. Mahalo! Great experience.
