Quite disappointed, we were quickly seated and our waitress was super attentive, the salad was okay, but the baked potato looked and tasted as if it had been left over from the day before, the 'hamburger' steak was 'mystery meat' not any hamburger, that I recognized, and the mashed potatoes were old and stale. I realize we arrived at 7 and they close at 8, but I did expect our food to be fresh.

Orders a cheeseburger. Safe items, no way to screw it up, or so I thought. Burger was tough and hard to chew, like it had been sitting in a warming tray for what seemed like hours. Friend ordered hamburger steak and gravy, she had to cut hers with a knife and it was as hard and tough as mine. This is my 3rd time visiting Restuarant 39, Strike 3. Never again!

Good selection on the menu. Just a bit disappointed though. Chicken Livers were way over cooked and dry, deviled eggs didn't have much taste, turnip greens were good and the hushpuppies tasted like they were made using old cornmeal (they also need a bit of sugar). Hubbies blackened catfish and corn pudding was very good. The service was good. Staff is friendly. I will go back and give it another try.

We were greated & seated immediately upon walking in. The food was good. The eggs could've been better & the bacon was a bit overcooked for my liking. Service was good & timely & the atmosphere is your "good ole hometown locals" that'll make you feel like you're right at home even if you're not from the area. The prices are very reasonable & they have a great menu. Like I said, this IS where the locals gather to start their day, so if you don't like that kind of place then this is not for you! Women's restroom was very clean. The restaurant overall was clean & neat. Our server was very attentive & nice as was the cashier. Of course we'll be back!

This restaurant catered for our mother’s surprise birthday party that was held at Kerr Lake Country Club this past Saturday. They prepared enough for 150 guests. We had fried chicken, meatloaf, cabbage, boiled potatoes, mac & cheese, rolls, sweet tea--all provided by this business. The food was an absolute hit--it was cooked just before the event and delivered hot--each item was tasty--seasoned just right. We have a family of many cooks--even the family cooks were impressed. When we announced there was extra food to take home, there was a mad rush to the food. The price for the catering was extremely reasonable. From the first time I spoke with Sandra (staff) about planning the menu, the follow-up conversations with her and Tina (staff), to the time the owner JR and staff delivered the food at the time we requested, the entire experience was nothing short of excellent customer service. My family eats at this restaurant regularly. This is certainly one of NC’s premiere eating experiences if you want tasty southern home cooked meals, good customer service, and reasonable prices.

I’m so happy I found this place on my road trip! Good ol’ fashioned home cooking that took me back to my childhood! Friendly staff and delicious food. Will definitely be back when I’m in this area!
