The best food and service (server-Jermey) We are from Virginia and visiting family. The food was fresh and tasted great. Jermey was very attentive and met all our request. Will be back.
Tonight was our first visit to the El Chaparral in Helotes and we absolutely loved it! The atmosphere was so festive as we listened to the strolling Mariachi and our waiter, Troy, was very attentive, stopping by our table frequently. Even the manager and the owner, Carlos, stopped by to ask us about our dining experience and to share a little history about the restaurant and the area. Our food was delicious and we will be going back frequently. What a wonderful experience, enjoying a night out with our family.
Yesterday I had good food, we ate at the bar.....The bartender was really busy when we walked in......However, he was the best, the food was great......BUT, the dessert was so tiny we couldn't share....now that is not normal.
The waitresses and waiters were super nice, the guacamole station is really good and the food is great. Drinks are strong!!! Best Mexican I've found in San Antonio yet. Sad its taken us this long time have found it!! Worth every penny!
I love eating at this restaurant, I have been coming here for about 7 years twice a year, but decided to have my Birthday celebration here yesterday, I loved that the Owner Mr. Charlie , came to my table and wished me a Happy Birthday and make sure we were being taken care of . Our waitress did a fantastic job with all of us ..12 adults and 2 little toddlers... I highly recommend El Chapparal..�

It was my first time here. Had to park way in the back. Busy place, good sign. Staff helpful and friendly. Alex our server was super. Mariachis. Video games. A wall of crosses. Every table full. People walking all over. Loud! Loved the buzz and colourful atmosphere! As a vegan, the food nor the hot tea, which came in a tall plastic cup were good, but at least they had such things! Pretended to be in Mexico, overall wonderful!
I loved this authentic gem 💎 when I first visited here years ago. Now that I live here it's a go to for celebrations and when we have guests. The customer service is on point every time. You are instantly greeted with a smile, fresh chips and salsa. Also, can't forget the small bowl of delicious borracho beans before your meal. The atmosphere is fun and authentic. Great outside eating area for the whole family. Best time to go is when they first open because if you go during meal times there is usually a wait but it's worth it. They also will not seat you until your whole party is there. Enjoy!!!
1st time visitors to El Chaparral in Helotes. HUGE place, and slightly intimidating upon entering the parking lot. However, there is plenty of room, both inside and outside. Color decorations as expected. Mariachi playing at tables a bonus. Outside a stage and live entertainment. Large tables outdoors and a playground for kids; very smart. Had the sampler and table-side guacamole. Plenty for 2-3, probably 4 adults. Puffy Tacos, shredded chicken were excellent. Patricia's Tacos, not as pictured, as very, very tiny pieces of Carne Asada. That dish was disappointing, and I should have opted for the Tortilla soup. We will return, definitely.

Update- OMG! Now this is the restaurant I came to love and enjoy. They under promised and overdelivered tonight. The staff was friendly, the food was delicious, but still no manager came to our table. The bean soup was on point, the rice was seasoned perfectly, and all the food was spectacular. Even though you don't know who I am, other than another customer, keep whatever you did today, going. We will definitely be coming back regularly.

I called to see how long the wait time was and the person that answered stated it was 30 minutes, but that I should go on yelp and be put on the wait list. I proceeded to yelp, but the waitlist was closed on the app. I called back, someone else answered, I informed them about yelps waitlist, and she proceeded to tell me, "It's first come, first serve" and hung up. Approximately 10 minutes later, when I arrived, the host seemed bothered by people checking in. When I signed in, she told me it was an hour wait. So far, this has been a ridiculous ordeal. Hopefully, the rest of today's visit will turn out better.
Update 1- the chips tasted stale and the side of beans, which is always delicious, was mostly water this time. Went from 2 stars to 1 for now.
Update 2- our waitress hasn't returned. Not for refills. Not to see if our order was correct nor to see if the food was good.
Update 3- our waitress finally stopped by and asked if everything was OK, as she placed our ticket on the table. She didn't ask if we wanted dessert or another beverage. Quite a disappointing visit today.
Update 4- adding pics of our watery drink, not full drink, and outlet at the table.
Update 5- our waitress took approximately 10-15 minutes to return for our card to pay. The manager on duty usually stops by at least once. Not this time.
Today's visit will remain a 1 star.
We got a sampler appetizer platter and the fajitas for 2. All the food was great as was the service. We had to add sour cream and cheese because they don't come standard with the fajitas. Their sweet tea is not very sweet at all. It's just enough so the tea isn't overly bitter but we couldn't actually taste any sweetness in it. They have fantastic military discount. Wait time was accurate (45 minutes). We will be returning for sure.
Delicious and super generous portions! I had the Carlos Special. Dedicated staff worked hard and delivered excellent service even though it was super busy and packed.
