Review The Greek Spot - Hawthorn

The food was very good. The service was amazing as well. Would definitely visit again and again. Thank you.

Solid Greek restaurant. Chips were pretty average but everything else was wonderful!

Excellent food and service. Best Greek food in Melbourne.

This place has been an institution in Hawthorn for years. The restaurant was full on a Sunday night, yet the service was quick and efficient. We ordered a selection of Greek favourites including Saganaki, calamari, whitebait, the mixed meat platter and grilled harpuka. All were good. The bill was very reasonable, a good value meal.

Beautiful, mouthwatering authentic Greek Food. The only Greek restaurant I go to. Quality, fresh meals, outstanding service and a lovely atmosphere. Authentic Hellenic cuisine at its finest. We will be back very soon!!!

Great family run traditional Greek restaurant which our family has enjoyed eating at for over 20 years, very relaxed, casual atmosphere !

Consistently wonderful, love this place

Traditional Greek cuisine done well.

I think the service staff was courteous but wished they were a little more welcoming. However, the food was filling enough albeit a little pricey. The pita bread was one of the nicer ones I’ve eaten. The fried calamari was crisp with a light batter. The bifteki was tasty although a little salty for my taste.

At 7pm, the peak of dinner time they informed us they were out of gyros, and their justification is because it’s been on the spit all day since 2pm’. I think a restaurant of this calibre and price range should be accounting for the amount of bookings they have and their rush times, thereby leaving some gyros to serve their dinner time customers.
It’s like an Italian place saying they’ve ran out of pasta! It doesn’t make sense how they ran out of gyro and it was disappointing for our dining experience

The service was okay, the waitresses didn’t speak great English so it was difficult to understand them, and were a bit slow to attend to the table. When I told them about Zomato Gold, they were quite abrupt and unfriendly about it (one didn’t even know what it was)... I don’t know if anyone else has had this experience. The manager/owner at the end seemed unhappy about it but had to honour it...

The food itself was good though. Very authentic! Had the pita and dips and the lamb gyros. One issue though is that it doesn’t mention anywhere on the menu that the meals come with chips and salad (it just mentions sides under the meat section). So we ordered chips and salad etc thinking there were none. Therefore ordered way too much! Its not cheap either!

Overall, I would come back for some authentic Greek food But not often. The menu should be edited and staff need to be aware of Zomato gold and more friendly about it.

Would rate this 3.5 stars. Food was nice and fresh, however a little overpriced as servings are quite small. Most mains are between roughly $27-$35. We had the dips to share which were fantastic but again not much dip or bread provided. I had the calamari main which came out fried, I was a little disappointed as I was thinking it was going to be grilled (had no mention of either on the menu) but I saw the table next to me had grilled -perhaps you have to mention it when you order it but nothing was said when I placed my order. My friend had the lamb cutlets for main. Both tasted great (just small servings as mentioned above) We shared a small greek salad too which was great but the dressing was all over the feta which sat at the top of the salad, would have been nicer for it to have been mixed through so that the lettuce at the bottom had dressing too.

Had the choice of three Greek restaurants in the area. As it was a family celebration I chose The Greek Spot and was not disappointed at all. Good honest food, good portions and reasonable pricing. Enjoyed the Fix beer as just returned from a holiday in Greece. While it was 40 degrees in Greece and 8 degrees in Melbourne the Fix went down a treat. Service was friendly and meals came out quickly. Will be back for sure

We had a party of six today, mothers day, and the Greek Spot didn't disappoint, from succulent starters to fulfilling mains, the atmosphere, service and food remains totally great Greek food. This was a first time for 4 of the guests and all the plates where emptied with not a skerrik left.
Thank you Greek Spot for a top Mothers day lunch

Will come back for:
+ Grilled octopus
+ Grilled Snapper
+ Grilled Chicken Ribs

Close your eyes and you can imagine yourself sitting by the Mykonos having a meal serve by this little eatery (or at least that is what I imagine). The seafood is fresh, and treated with respect and all the food is cooked with charcoal and that flavour comes through strongly. We shared some dips and pita, as well as some fritters. These were ok, but I’ve had better ones from other Greek eateries. I particularly liked the grilled octopus, snapper and chicken ribs. Fresh, delicious and smokey with a splash of lemon. I do think that the flavours can be amped up even more, but that is a personal preference. Service was also super quick given the place was filling up fast with locals on a Saturday night and for a good reason. Good reliable spot for some Greek fare.
An Excellent Evening
With two close friends, this was our first visit to The Greek Spot, and certainly won’t be our last. The pitta and dips were delicious, though the portions quite small. But the mains - souvlaki, grilled prawns and swordfish were magnificent and very filling. The Greek salad was well prepared and the feta genuine and liberal. The wine list was comprehensive and our choice of the Greek white went well with our choices. Service was attentive and friendly.......all in all an excellent evening. Thanks to all the staff who made it so......
I have been to The Greek Spot many times in the past and have always found it to be a good local eatery. My most recent experience was pretty disappointing though, the food was all tasty, but service was a little slow on a pretty quiet night. When it came to dessert, we asked for two dishes to share between three of us. When dessert arrived on one large plate, we commented on how much food there was (later discovering we'd actually been charged for 3 dishes instead of 2). The low point of the evening was finding a hair in one of the dessert items, we discreetly told the waitress who said "that's not good" and removed the food but never offered an apology, never replaced the item nor came back to address it at all. We were charged in full for all items, including the one we didn't order and the one with the hair in it. Pretty poor, and here I am leaving a review which I probably wouldn't have done if someone had just said sorry.

Had a really good night here with my friends. Great authentic Greek food, could really appreciate the quality meat and seafood used. Staff were attentive, very friendly and efficient. So glad I tried this place following a recommendation from my friend!
Wolf Of Collins St.
This is a nice local place for a above average Greek meal. Food does not have a wow factor or is not that stunning, but it is good, it has the taste and beautifully cooked. We had 3 course meal, and we enjoyed it with no complain. Plus chips are really crispy and delicious. Staff are amazing, very kind and polite and will look after you very well. Place is a bit small, and for weekends might be a bit busy and crowded, but this is the place they could afford to run their business in heart of Hawthorn, so no complain on that too. Certainly it worth a visit and you will judge, considering they accept your Entertainment book vouchers as well, if you have one.

Excellent whole schnapper grilled on charcoal was a highlight of seafood meal..calamari,whiting and salad.,dip and saganaki entree so so and service good as we arrived before the rush at 7.A good neighbourhood asset with difficult parking prior to 630pm.

A solid Greek restaurant that doesn’t try to be something it’s not and too outside the square. Had the seafood platter for 2 and for $49 I was left satisfied. Very fresh and seasoned well

Located in Swinburne University precinct, the Greek spot is easily accessible. We booked a table using Zomato but were surprised that the owners had little clue about the booking. Since it was 7ish by the time we reached, the restaurant was not fully booked but the staff seated us on first floor behind closed doors of the restaurant instead of window facing ground level which had few tables not occupied.

We browsed thru the limited wine list and requested for Barrossa valley and Frankland estate shiraz. For entrees were the pita with dips and mains ordered were mixed platter of gyros, souvlaki and lamb cutlets and a main dish if prawns. We were very surprised as the order came in less than 10 minutes and the waiter put all the food in one go...entrees and mains. We were in the pre Christmas talking mood and after every one had served into the plates we realised that we were incorrectly served! The dips were correct but instead of mixed platter we were served with chicken souvlaki and a plate of rissoles. We waited nearly 10 minutes but no waiter turned up on first floor so we decided to proceed with what we have! Eventually the waiter came and we explained, it took another 10 minutes for prawns to be served.

With all the ordering and serving confusion, good part was the souvlaki and Prawns were well done but rissoles were very dry.

To sum up, food is 6/10 compared to other Greek outlets in Melbourne, service is 4/10, wine list 4/10, ambience 5/10.....some beautiful paintings on the walls!

Revisit: Maybe

As a humble little Greek eatery that’s known for serving up authentic, quality Greek cuisine, The Greek Spot has certainly lived up to all the good things we’ve been hearing about, and it’s no surprise they were packed with locals.
The food here traditional and unpretentious, delivered in the typical friendly Greek fashion and in more-than-generous portions. For those looking to satisfy their Greek cravings, you need not look further!

Had a great evening here last night. Very busy but friendly and attentive service. Exceptional quality reasonably priced. Recommend highly. Try their fresh fish cooked on charcoal

We came here on a busy weeknight and the service was quick and food quite good. We ordered the prawns and calamari which both came with salad. Not cheap but the quality was good. Whilst the service was efficient, it wasn't very friendly! The waitress (owner, I think) was quite abrupt and not exactly welcoming. For the money and slight attitude, and the fact I left still hungry, I probably wouldn't return anytime soon.

Big love to Greek food and this is an awesome one. 🍴New place I found near me. I have been there probably 3 times a month. Octopus is great, it could be a little bit tough sometimes. Saganaki is a must, then with a few pita bread and dip. So nice. Also love the grilled prawn. 🍻🍻

We purchased the $50p/h banquet option. The courses were the usuals you would expect and in general the food was tasty but just average. Nothing amazing. Portion sizes were less than half of what you would normally get at most Greek Banquets in Melbourne. Service was super speedy and friendly.
Hungry Couples
One of our favorite places to eat in Hawthorn. Authentic Greek food. The staff are super attentive and friendly. Food is delicious. Definitely somewhere you want to go regularly. Everything about this place is great.
Lily
Look the food was pretty good and authentically Greek, but the lady who runs the joint is kind of scary/mean! You're told where to sit, what to order and when to eat it pretty much. I felt like she was watching my date and I eat... when we left the saganaki cheese on its pan because we were mid-conversation when it was served, she came over to tell us to eat it immediately. I'm sorry but I'm it for dinner, not just to eat quickly and suffer from ingestion, but I also like to talk to my friend! And secondly I know how to eat saganaki cheese. I know it'll harden up if the cheese is left for too long or the pan cools down. I know I'm not Greek but I know how to eat my food. I know it's a local gem but I wouldn't recommend it. Better food and service elsewhere.

I was glad the entertainment book led me to this restaurant. I'm not usually one for greek but I decided to give it a go and I was glad I did. I came here midweek for dinner with a friend who is celiac and it was great to see so many options for her. The staff were quite knowledgeable and knew straight away the dishes she could have. We ordered the chicken and Lamb skewers and a large greek salad and everything was seasoned extremely well. Everything was super tasty. My only downfall was that I thought the chips were a bit lack luster but I don't consider chips something you necessarily need when eating greek food anyway.
AaronN
The food here was pretty good. Dips tasted really good,as did the bread it came with, and the meat was juicy and well seasoned (we got the mixed grill for two). Yet we wont be returning. Why? Service was shoddy and slow, and the really pavks in the seats and tables making it really crowded and loud

We went to this restaurant as we have been dying to find a close an excellent Greek restaurant in the Camberwell/Hawthorn area, but unfortunately our experience has only re-motivated us to travel further to find real quality.

I'll sum up the food quickly, it was decent - nothing to rave about but no real 'complaints' regarding what we had. Portions were decent and enough to fill us up, but none of the dishes ranked close to the best Greek we have had in Melbourne. And sadly, it couldn't make up for the atrocious service.

It is as if nobody actually enjoys or wants to work there. If you land a table next to the 'bar' area, then you will have a great view of a bunch of waiters lost with nothing to do until the manager gives them an order. There is no refilling of water jugs, no glasses put on the table, no orders taken or tables cleaned up without the manager ordering a waiter around - and quite loudly. You know when you have one table too many when the waiters are apologizing every time they pass your table because someone is bumped from behind while eating. Even a poor couple coming in to sit at their table took 5 minutes trying to get to it all the way at the back.

If you need a quick bite of Greek food, look elsewhere because there are certainly cheaper establishments who will throw you food of the same quality, at lease then you will save a few dollars. But for us, a restaurant is defined by great food with friendly and kind staff.

Went there for a birthday dinner and it was definitely worth the travel. Although the portions are a bit small for the price the quality of the food makes up for it. We went for a table of three but probably ate for nearly 4-5 people since we couldn't resist trying only a few from the menu. For entrees we had there house specials char grilled scallops, char grilled octopus, spanakopita, calamari, dips and pita bread. All of the food were really nice but I would've liked a different type of pastry than of curry puffs for spanakopita. It was my second time having octopus and I can definitely say this is the best! it was cooked to perfection without being chewy and you can really taste the difference of being just pan cooked and char-grilled. As for the main we had the mixed grilled for two with the greek salad. The meat was marinated cooked to perfection and the salad was just AMAZING!!! I'm never a salad person but this one had me finishing the bowl without any scrap. I think they make the feta cheese as it's nothing like what I've tasted from different delis and supermarkets. It soft and salty but not as salty as the ones you buy from stores. My mother who never touches beef enjoyed the Bifteki and my sister who doesn't like lamb demolished it within seconds. As for the dessert this was the highlight of the night. We had the loukamades (greek donuts) which is not on the menu so make sure to ask them, affogato, turkish delight and the baklava. Although I initially went for the turkish delight ice cream which they didn't have these most definitley made up for it. You must try all of these as they were simply stunning and I couldn't pick a clear winner but I think the loukamades was up by 0.1%. I'll definitley be coming back again when I crave for Greek. The only reason why I demoted 1 star is because of the portion but the drinks menu which was very limited.

Overall this is a really nice place that you must check out, they're extremely fast with their service as if the chef heard you all the way from the kitchen and the best part is there is plenty of parking spots right at the front.

P.S. couldn't upload any photos as we demolished the food as soon it hit our table.

My wife and I spent New Year's Eve here and loved it. From the moment that we were accommodated with a last minute booking to when they walked us out, we felt like we were a part of a family experience - and this was on a very busy night! Food was served promptly, and it was delicious. The saganaki and octopus were top notch. Although the lamb gyros was a little dry, all in all the shared meat platter was great. We live very local to this place and can't believe we haven't come by sooner, but we'll definitely be back again.

Great food and service been coming here for years and always consistent, highly recommend. Love the moussaka and gyros as well as the galaktobouriko

What a great find! A family run restaurant with that personal touch. The service is great, with food to match. We enjoyed the shared meat dish and the octopus. Great food. Great ambiance. Great service! A definite to try.

Delicious authentic Greek food. The saganaki was to die for and the lamb souvlaki is simply amazing. The gyros was slightly bland but still satisfying. It would be nice if it were served with some pita and paprika, just like in Greece.

If you want tradition food this is the place to go! We had octopus, saganaki, King George whiting and lamb souvlaki and they all tasted delicious! And coming from a Greek background myself I am very picky!!

Sensational flavours! The grilled octopus is grilled perfectly. The mixed meat platter for 2 was fantastic. A variety of meats cooked to perfection. The gyros.... Yum!!!

Had a great dinner here. LLovely, friendly service. Nice atmosphere and cosy feel. Particularly liked the octopus. Will definitely go back again.

Went here for dinner last night. The main reason I choose here was 1/ its Greek food and 2/ it was in the Entertainment Book.
Right first we rang to apologise about being late, got attitude on the phone. Yep my fault for ringing ahead and letting them know. We arrive, stood at front door for 5mins with staff staring at us, and looking away. Finally someone come up and showed us to our table. Had someone comeover to take our order for food...um no menus yet. So drinks order goes in. No glass with my wifes bottle of soft drink. No glass, no ice.
We order Saganaki (our favourite), it tasted like grilled kraft cheese. No I'm not kidding.
We order our mains(gyros), then have a second waiter come and ask us for our order again, after we tell him we have ordered, he demands that we give our order to him again. Food arrives prompt. Not bad, not great. Standard takeaway level of our local kebab shop. No bread. Its extra for breads. Boring salad. Boring Sliced onion. No
flavour. Im a biggish eater, and this hardly filled me, with two entres before hand as well.
Then we asked the for bill, watch 3-4 tables who asked after us get there first. No biggie, but you know. Bill arrives. Honestly I cant understand all these great reviews for this place. I saw the "plater for two", I could finish that and some.
If you want GREAT GREEK, try The Greek tavern in Glen Iris. Lot better.

I went here the other night for my sister's birthday and we got the $50 banquet. We started off with dips, octopus, spanakopita and other things. After that we had a plate of seafood which was delicious and some yummy meat. At the end we had dessert, even though I was full after the other courses I could've done with more dessert. My only other complaint is that I would have liked a more traditional spanakopita instead of the one that looks like a curry puff. The service was great here and the lady who works here was very friendly and chatty, she loves children and she's very sweet. I would definitely come back.

I love this place! Food is delicious, service is good and the price is hard to better anywhere locally for Greek cuisine. You must try the swordfish skewers and home made galaktoboureko- the best I've had!

Went to the greek spot after lots of recommendation, the food was awesome and the service was very friendly. Been in hospitality for years I was amazed with the quality. Simple and yet perfect. 👌👌👌
Love it.

Such a great place. This busy little Greek restaurants offers all the traditional flavours of Greece. We love coming back here. The upstairs is not very atmospheric at all
Margot Boyle
Our second visit has confirmed that this Greek restaurant is spot on. Everything was cooked to our liking. The Gyros is deliciously teamed with simple leaves under which lies a small puddle of dressing to be licked off the plate. The swordfish is skewered (4 skewers) with just enough onion and capsicum and grilled perfectly. A small Greek salad (served by a small Greek woman named Eleni of course) was shredded lettuce, tomato pieces and olives topped with superb feta. More dressing too. And Lemon Lemon Lemon!!!
This was recommended by a Greek friend who frequents the place.
I would add photos but empty plates are dull.
And if course we'll be back.
Pcursio
Over priced for what you get. I found the servings to be far from satisfying for what they charge. Wont be back in a hurry as there are other greek restaurants that are better value and better servings. Average food for what you are paying for. We sat upstairs and interior and setting was cold uninviting and simply awful.
J.bloom
Jenny. This is authentic Greek food! The service was friendly and welcoming and the food excellent. A gem in the middle of Hawthorn. Well worth the experience.

Complete rip off!!. Went here for dinner with a group of 4 for a birthday. We ordered the meat grill and the seafood grill, priced at $50 each, assuming that it would be enough for dinner. Unfortunately both platters that said should be shared between two consisted of a very small amount of seafood and meat with a couple of lettuce leaves and approximately 5 chips (on the meat platter only). We all left the restaurant hungry and dissatisfied. On top of that the service was poor and unfriendly. Glasses were smashed down on the table and when we had finished dinner and went to pay, the eftpos machine was left on the table for us to complete the transaction and rip off our own receipts. The waiters/waitresses seemed disinterested and annoyed that we were in the restaurant. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Arsenal93
Favourite. Been dining here with my family for over 10 years and have always left thinking of when our next revisit will be. Great family run business with the best seafood around! Perhaps the stingy people saying that this place is expensive should stick to pizza hut or mcdonalds!! Compared to every other Greek restaurant I've been to this place represents great value, and the quality is of the highest standard.
HellenicDiner
Great Greek food but perhaps undiscovered by Melbourne's Greek community!. I had a banquet here and found all components were extremely delicious and must state that my wife and I appreciated the owner's willingness to put together a banquet for two as typically, in our experience, three/four diners are required.

There were a couple of new flavors I'd never experience before in Greek establishment with the highlight being a dessert serving of "frozen lemon Greek yogurt". Simple, but extremely tasty and well executed. The fried white-bait was also extremely tasty and fresh.

The vibe I got was that this tavern seems to be a long established favorite of the locals around Hawthorn, the venue was packed from 6 pm and I noticed the owner was extremely familiar with many of the customers suggesting personalized service and regular repeat business characterize this place.

What did surprise me is that this restaurant seems to have gone largely unnoticed by Melbourne's vast Greek community, who post my positive experience here, I encourage to attend and check it out.

In summary, this place offers traditional Greek tavern food that is very well executed (and delicious) in a family run tavern which gave me a great sense of familiarity (even though I had never met the owner previously) and subsequently it gets my recommendation if you're after quality Greek tavern fare!
Helena
Don't judge a restaurant by it's looks. Food is really good here! It looks a bit outdated and tacky but the food really tasted amazing. Would recommend for birthdays!
Angela Elizabeth Gill
Delicious local stalwart. Having not been here for a few years, it was great to return and experience a delicious meal that was every bit as good as we remembered. Entrees of mouth-watering prawns, octopus and whitebait were brought promptly to our table - our 8 year old delightedly bit the heads off the tiny fish and savoured the new taste (for him).; he also polished off the prawns with relish. The garfish special - filleted and served simply - was superb! The gyros was also very good and a goodly amount. Accompanied by a generous Greek salad, our meal was complete and, much as we would have liked to sample more, we simply could not. Next time!
Tim.simms
Love it!. We come here for dinner all the time and have never had a bad meal or bad service. The staff are always completely lovely and the food is always delish. Anyone who doesn't like this place doesn't like good Greek food. The person who complains about the 'wine list'... It's a Greek restaurant not a winery, and it's also BYO so you are welcome to bring any kind of wine you like. If you want to eat at a fine dining restaurant with white table cloths, pretentious food and an expensive wine list then do so, otherwise get over yourself and enjoy good food without the BS.
Louise-joyce
Very expensive don't bother. Service was fabulous that's where it ends meals way over priced $48 for seafood platter for 2 4 prawns but of calimRi and some fish gyros though good $22 no salad extra $9 dip small portion $9 absolute rip off
Ilana Burley
Consistently authentic and delicious. My family and I have been coming here for over 15 years, at the current location and the previous, and the food has NEVER been disappointing. I'm shocked to see all these reviews saying how bad the staff are/the food. Are you sure you're writing about the correct Greek Spot? We always order saganaki, octopus, gyros, dips, scallops, Greek salad etc and it is consistently delicious. The staff are attentive but never pushy, and will always assist in what you should order and how much of it depending on your table numbers. We never eat dessert (as my mum cannot eat gluten and I cannot eat nuts, it's always worked out easier to skip it) however it looks amazing. Do yourself a favour and go.
Teranai
Nice service but food very average. Had the gyros. Very smelly and needed more seasoning and didn't have sour cream. Had to take some from the dip plate. Spanakopita was ok. Salad not very fresh. Calamari dish very small portion even for an entree. Won't be back.
Rachie__
Less than impressed. When we first arrived were greeted by a waiter who knew nothing about our booking. He then went on to ask another employee about our booking who looked over and then appeared to laugh at us. Unsure what that was about.
The Mixed Grill seemed like it was just an expensive BBQ. All of the meat was seasoned with the same bland flavour. The chicken was dry. The side serving of chips and salad was extremely minimal.
The presentation of food was poor.
It was NOT worth $48, at all.
Allan.swan
Classic Greek food. Loved the food!
Jessica
Consistently good!. I come to the greek spot whenever I am in hawthorn, my whole family loves it and so do all my friends, I highly recommend the greek spot to anyone looking for delicious well priced food combined with polite staff.
Elsie The Cow
Consistently good Greek food with a free floor show of watching the owner wait on the entire restaurant by herself.

Avoid!. Mel's review below is exactly correct: terrible. Sullen service and vile food. Just a pile of meat on a plate, a handful of chips and a limp bit of lettuce. Wine tasted like it was off and from a cask.

The Greek Spot was once very good but clearly the current incumbents are either not up to to it or well over it. I would never return even if it was free.
Melinda Webb
Terrible!!. I read quite a few reviews about the Greek Spot and thought there must be some miscommunication, as some are raving, others complaining and there is a constant theme of chips... Well I went there last night and it was horrible, and there are definitely chips.

The menu is very limited and my friend was made to feel very uncomfortable by the waitress when she asked if they could accommodate her as a vegetarian (she ended up getting dolmades which were hot in some places, cold in the other which made us think they'd been microwaved). The main meals are literally piles of meat on a plate - we ordered the souvlaki, gyros and mixed grill, and each came out with a lettuce leaf and five chips, then a great big ugly pile of meat. The gyro was literally a heap of shaved lamb on a plate, it was disgusting and worth $24. Luckily we ordered a Greek salad to share, but this was just a bowl of shredded lettuce, two cubes of feta, and three slices of tomato. Last time I check Greek salad didn't have lettuce.

We had to repeatedly ask for water, and we weren't given ice buckets for our wine. The waitress rolled her eyes at us each time we asked a question or for her advice on what to order.

Do yourselves a favor and stay away from this place, or go to the corner kebab shop, you'll get a better variety and for a cheaper price.

Plenty of good food. Staff welcoming and interactive without being intrusive. found the food to be of yummy standard.. service at diners pace (not too fast, not too slow). enjoyed the set menu ($45 includes dessert and coffee). clean. not noisy. will go again.

Without doubt the worst restaurant for service I have been to in Melbourne. I have "dined" at the Greek spot four times. On the first three occasions put up with somewhat rude, definitely disinterested service because my family loves Greek food. Fourth visit sat waiting to place our drink & food orders for 30 minutes seeing other tables attended to that arrived after us so we walked out. Will NEVER return.
Spoon Me
Upon one dining experience from recommendation, and having travelled Greece extensively, this is the best Greek restaurant in Melbourne. Authentic, delicious Greek food. That's it, and the service, the most polite and attentive i have ever experienced. Quite busy so book ahead, but do yourself a favour and eat here! Fresh whitebait, saganaki, meat platter for two, galoptaputiko (sp) and oh yes, they make a killer latte! All perfect, and again, polite attentative staff that work efficiently under the pump of full house. Going back !!
Mike Werner
Very poor value. We ordered the seafood platter for two - $48. What we got was four very "floury" prawns, a couple of pieces of poor quality snapper and a handful of crumbed calamari. If I was Greek I would be ashamed to serve this up! I have had good Greek food, and this was certainly not it! The accompanying salad was tired and sparse.
All in all not a very good experience. Needless to say, we won't be back!
Cclocc
Amazing food every time we go! Love the saganaki, moreton bay bugs, octopus, dips.. Highly recommend!
Eliza Jane
AMAZING. I never used to like greek much, and then i didnt have it for about 2 years, and i was made to go out for greek, came to the greek spot and absolutly loved it!
Every meal i have had there has been amazing. the food, friendly service and atmosphere has brought me back everytime.
Ryan
Fantastic.. My parents took me here for my birthday and I am grateful they did. We ordered seafood, lamb and dips. All meals were fresh and the lamb's seasoning was not overdone like at some Greek restaurants. The desserts were absolutely amazing, especially the galaktoboureko. Definitely coming back here again. The only qualm I had was the house red was very average but that was not why we came here. The staff were receptive, friendly and valued. Overall a very enjoyable experience.
Nancia
Consistently good!. Praise for this little Greek spot! Have been frequenting for nearly eight years and we really enjoy. The owner lady runs a very tight ship but that is good if you're there for a quick tasty well priced authentic Greek dining experience. Positives for us include efficient, dips and pita to die for' and meat seafood always cooked well. Only negative is they are a little scummy with the feta and olives in their Greek salad. Otherwise we really enjoy this place and have referred many friends.

Best Greek in Melbourne. I have never left a review online before, but I was so shocked by the bad reviews below that i had to signed up and respond to these unjust comments.

The Greek Spot is my favourite Greek restaurant in Melbourne, their food is fresh, simple and delicious - essentially classic Greek cuisine.

The two dinning rooms are intimate and elegant, and the manageress is charming and very Greek.

It is a gem!

Great. Had dinner there for the first time last night with friends who had been before. Service and food were excellent. I had the gyros and greek salad. Our table shared entrees - saganaki - great, dips - great, fetta melted over charcoal - very very tasty. Friends had the mixed grill for two which was a large serving. Will definitely go back and try the mixed grill and the seafood platter and the prawns etc

We went there for dinner last nighy and I was so disappointed and unsatisfied with both the food and service. There is NOTHING Greek about this place! Having dips on the menu doesn't make you Greek. Servings were incredibly small and unsatisfactory. We got a " chicken souvlaki" and " lamb" souvlaki. They both came with 4 small skewers of meat each and 5 chips ..... Chips??? Chips with souvlaki? Since when was that Greek! And 5 pieces of chips?? What the!!!! There was no pita or taziki with the souvlaki. How can you call that Greek! We ordered 5 entres and they were nothing of the sort Greek at all. Service is rude and we were in and out within an hour because they just wanted to hurry. Then the bill came - needless to say another disappointment. We have regularly dined at Greek Resteraunts. This is nothing of the sort. Don't waste your time money. We will never return!!

Best Greek spot in Melbourne. I have read the reviewsand was shocked to read those that didn't like it. Although I don't go there that often as I live quite a few kilometres away when I want a really good Greek meal this is the place I go. It is always good!!

Very, very good.... We were pleasantly surprised tonight. My Whiting was as fresh as I have eaten and everyone else was happy with their choices.
Saganaki and dips for starters were a good way to get things rolling. The prawns were well-cooked and fresh, the calamari was not overcooked and very tasty and the lamb gyros was hard to fault.

Don't expect fine dining but do expect good quality Greek food. We were at Sails on the Bay last Sunday and it was double the price and half as good... We read a couple of the earlier reviews and were slightly concerned. I can't honestly understand why they were written unless a) the person was unreasonable or b) the writer has an axe to grind with management. Either way, in an area that has plenty of restaurants, we will be heading back to Greek Spot...

Matt

Best Greek Food in Melbourne!!!. @littletacker. The restaurant that used to be "dips" was in Glen Iris, not Hawthorn. You had the wrong restaurant. You really should be a bit more careful when posting such a horrible revue.

As a regular diner at The Greek Spot, you could never believe that revue below to be true. The best greek food in Melbourne, efficient service-Simply delicious.

Great food, great place. We go to the Greek Spot every time we are in Australia, and have been for over 15 years. As far as we are concerned it's the only greek restaurant worth frequenting in melbourne.

As for the review by littletacker that is clearly the wrong restaurant as they don't even serve 90% of the food you mentioned.

Top spot. Can't get the lemon yoghurt with honey &nuts out of my mind .Great dessert.

What a pity!!!. Had great expectations and was dissapointed. Went as part of a group and perhaps it was that we had a set menu. The dips and bread were lovely but the main - lamb, patties and chips (a very small serving) was average. Service is slow and not particularly friendly - understaffed. Would not go back as there is better value elsewhere.

Best Greek in Melbourne. Food is so good who cares about the service!

Close, but no cigar!. The food was ok and the service was nice enough, but the experience wasn't very authentic. There was a limited menu, but the options were decent (there was something there for everyone). But something was missing. It didn't have the atmosphere you'd expect in a Greek restaurant. I'm not going back, there are far better Greek restaurants/taverns in Melbourne.

Food was fantastic but could not justify the terrible service. No menus and extremely long waiting periods. The staff were rude and couldnt even refill our water jug in less than 10 minutes. A real disappointment from a place that looked like so much more.

The Greek Spot - SPOT ON!!!. Well, what can I say?! What a tremendous meal, one of the best I have had in many a month or even year. Quality ingredients, generous servings and incredible flavours.

The rissoles to start with were juicy, grilled to perfection and bursting with flavour - a great start.

Then came the greek salad with a twist - shredded lettuce which is such a good idea as it held the dressing in and was really very tasty.

Then came the seafood platter - 4 humungous prawns, perfectly flash fried calamari and delicious fish cutlets - all cooked and flavoured perfectly. What wonderful fresh and tasty food and generous servings too.

We were full by this stage but just had to try the dessert - the filo pastry with custard, honey and cinnamon and a cpl of greek delights topped off what can only be described as one the best meals we have had in a long time.

I encourage you to go a long and have a taste for yourself ... I'm already thinking of when our next visit will be.

Thank you Greek Spot - Spot on!

Actually very Greek. Well it reminded me of Greece, the menu was what was on the blackboard, we arrived fairly late so the Gyros was off. We had the fish platter, sanganaki and bread, perfectly reasonable and the prawns were huge. In the 2010/11 Entertainment Book so 25% off the bill.

Crap, wouldn't go back. Slow service, no menu for us but next table must have been special coz they got one. Apparently licenced but no wine menu either. 1 choice of red by the glass-never found out what it was, just got given it. Not worth the bother.
