Authentic local cottage cooking with distinctly German-American flavors. Prime rib respectably mid-rare, hard to find in rural midwest. Corn could be better possibly from a can in heart of corn country. Green beans were delightful, nostalgic German country kitchen favorite. Smoky brats lean toward Bavarian. White wine sauce tasty, could be more intense of same flavor.
Decor a rustic treat. Truly antique and interesting not kitchy. Succeeds where many of this ilk fail.

A beautiful historic restaurant on Main St. in Hannibal, Missouri. The decor will take you back in town. The food is good and the service is friendly. The prices are not unreasonable. It's almost like a museum and a restaurant. Really enjoyed looking at all the different things on the walls. Good place to try.

The atmosphere was delightful and so far the food has been wonderful. The portion size is more than expected.

We had a rude waitress with zero personality. The food was fair. The pies were great. The manager/cook lecturing the 2 waitresses really ruined my desire to ever go back. He said (This is an excerpt) "There will be no substitutions whatsoever today! If a customer wants extra mushrooms etc.. etc...etc... today.... they're not getting it. Understand? Also, we tipped the waitresses quite a bit, we felt bad for her, even though she was short and rude. The icing was that she just took the whole amount we gave her when we paid, never asking if we wanted change or saying thank you. This place has major issues.

We have enjoyed Ole Planters several times but no longer. Waiting for a table Paige stormed past us 3 times totally ignoring us and so did two others. When I asked about a table she snapped that they couldn’t take any more. Another waitress said a table was opening up. A group behind us got reprimanded for sitting at a table because a customer, not an employee, told them to. Employees were dressed the same as customers so no way to identify them There was a scream from the kitchen. Seriously, you can’t make this up! We were told it was the chef because they ran out of specials. We asked what would be the easiest for the staff to order and ordered that. We chose not to walk out because it was pouring rain and few options nearby. The whole time we ate Paige stormed around the restaurant. She was consistent in totally ignoring us. Karen served us and made attempts at being civil but clearly we walked into some battle. We later found out the restaurant has been sold. The owner who sold should lock the door and be done. The new owner should not hire Paige. We understand being overwhelmed but it sure seemed there were lots of hands on deck. We don’t understand extreme rudeness.

Wow. Not good. I’ve tried 3 time now and each time was bad. Canned veggies. Lots of vinegar. Greasy meatloaf. Brats did not taste like brats but like dried out smoked meat. Every time the rolls were cold. They are not home made. Every time the soda from a can was hot. So if you like greasy, dried up food from a can, cold rolls and hot soda from a can them this is your place.

This is the honest to God's truth. Went in for lunch. I ordered a chicken fried steak and my mom ordered a Reuben sandwich. Halfway through her meal she bit down on something hard. She managed to spit it out and we realized it was an old dirty penny. I understand that things happen, but when we told the young waitress, she said she didn't know how that could have happened. I told her that her boss should be informed... I was appalled that management didn't come to apologize and put it all on the young waitress to deal with... They begrudgingly comped my mother's meal (which she didn't have the stomach to finish after finding the penny in it). Charged for my meal and our glass of wine each. I mentioned that maybe the tip jars should be moved away from the cook area, she said that it probably came from a customer. I said, " that's even scarier". Why are the customers in the kitchen? She said that a customer must have laid change by the line table and that is where the sauerkraut is, and it just "fell" in. OMG! Really? Not a single apology from management. I rarely give bad reviews.... But, this crossed the line.

Great food and great value for your dollar! Both plates were under $10 each for lunch!
