Grandma's Cafe is a cute little place. It's very clean and nestled next to the indoor shop. The food is Japanese style and not too complicated. I had the Tekka maki(roll) and Kappa (cucumber) maki. Two of my favorites, but I grew up w/ this kind of food so it's naturally good to me and Grandma's did a great job! My husband who is not much of a Japanese food fan had the chicken bowl w/ teriyaki sauce really enjoyed it. I highly recommend Grandma's Cafe.

This was delicious, everything was very fresh. The staff and owners extremely friendly and there is a little gift shop inside that is quite amazing. My husband had one of the specialized sushi rolls and I had an awesome mixed Poke bowl over wonderful rice and local greens! We will be go return.

Food was flavorful, abundant, and well presented in a unique take-out compostable container. Even the utensils were unique, made of wood. Blu Umi is a store worth a visit on its own, and browsing in it is a great way to wait for your food. Mahalo for the back garden to sit and enjoy with no rush.

For special occasions or date nights, this gem in Hanapēpē is worth your time and money. Chef Shin creates authentic Japanese dishes that are as pleasing to the eye as they are to the 'ōpū!

Excellent restaurant. I lived in Japan for 22 years and have high standards. Japanese Grandma's Cafe serves authentic Japanese cuisine that takes advantage of the best local ingredients available. The fish is very fresh. Be sure to check out their store while you're there.

I seriously died and went to heaven when I ate here. It was so very delicious, fresh, clean, and delightful. During our vacation in Kauai we ate at many different restaurants, but this one was hands down the best.

Very solid Japanese place to go! Good: - This place had amazing sushi! I liked the grandma roll the best, it was very unique - The ambiance is really nice! It’s covered and outdoors - The Tamago was so so good! Nice and sweet - Staff were really nice, and the vibes were good Bad: - There was a decently long wait time Overall I liked this place! I was sad it didn’t have poke but the sushi made up for it

Humble open-air covered dining area located behind a small retail store. The sushi was fresh and delicious. The Kauai Shrimp (served whole w/ shell on) in the Bento Bowl were well seasoned and tender. The wait staff were friendly and helpful.

The logo is so cute! I ended up buying stickers and a hat after eating here (which apparently gave me 15% off my entire purchase). The food is pricey but everything was delicious. I would definitely come back again when I want to splurge on lunch or dinner.

BEST shrimp tempura ever. So light and delicious! We got the shrimp tempura bento bowl and the chicken karaage bowl (+ avocado), and both were delicious, but the shrimp tempura was just SO GOOD. There is only patio seating, but there is shade for when it is hot and sunny out. Really clean bathroom as well.

The best sushi we had in Hawaii! We came here for dinner on our last night in Kauai. Every dish we tried was simply delectable, with the fish being exceptionally fresh and practically melting in our mouths. Here’s a list of our favorites: 1. Yellowtail Jalapeño 2. Sashimi Salad 3. Eel Bomb 4. Spicy Hamachi 5. Hamachi Nigiri I can’t recall the name of the refreshing drink we enjoyed, but it was the cocktail of the day. The Yuzu cheesecake also left a positive impression. The live music added a delightful touch to the ambience. It seems like it’s only outdoor seating. I would suggest to make a reservation before going. The server Talia was great. She was very attentive and gave great suggestions.

Loved this restaurant so much. Had dinner restaurants for my family of 3. Our 9 year old was so excited to order from the kids menu but ultimately ended up ordering sushi. My husband and I had the most amazing pork katsu and chicken karaage ever. Talk about tender! Also the passionfruit gelato was beyond delicious. Also love how the restaurant is laid out and decorated. Not ostentatious at all but comfortable and chill. Cannot wait to come back.

Lovely outdoor spot In Hanapepe with yummy food. We had the chicken karaage bowl, sumomono salad and catch of the day sashimi. The sashimi was pricey; in retrospect we should’ve asked for the price first, but everything was delicious! There is also branded merch in the front shop - stickers, t-shirts and more!

We stumbled upon this place in the way to Waimea Canyon. It is one of the best Japanese restaurants I have been. The ponzu sauce is out of this world. The pickled ginger is even amazing. The fish is so fresh too.Great service and atmosphere!!!

This is the best restaurant that we were lucky enough to come across on our entire trip! Yes, the food can seem a little pricey, but not for Hawaii standards, and not for that high quality. It’s a beautiful patio and we had great service. The live entertainment was perfect too!

Must try the build you own Bento Bowl by choosing your choice of protein, sauce, and additional add-ons. It comes with your choice of rice: white or brown and side mix green salad. I had the bento bowl consisting of vegetable and shrip tempura with spicy yuzu kosho eel sauce, which was delicious. I also had their in-house special guava lemonade drink, which was refreshing. The outside dining area was pleasant and well presented, despite the high winds. Overall, one of best restaurants in Hanapepe, Kauai.

The dining area is outside under a canopy with tables set on pea gravel which is absolutely GREAT! Our server was very accommodating with extensive knowledge of the menu items. The food is well prepared and very flavorful. What a nice dining experience. Will return.

A wonderful eatery with everything from sashimi to nigiri to maki rolls. The food, service and environment was perfect. It’s a bit off the street, but there’s ample street parking. For those with limited mobility, the walkway is flat, but again somewhat of a walk from the parking area and the seating area is located in crushed rock…so can be difficult to walk in.

The food portion is not big for the price. The taste is 7/10. Prefer the soba from Kai.

Absolutely incredible food - we got bento bowls with grandmas chicken, avocado, soft poached egg, and a piece of shrimp tempura. Also for a glimpse of grandma herself and she is a queen. Will definitely return!!

What a great spot! Came for lunch on a Sunday and our party of 5 was seated in the back garden right away. I had the spicy poke bowl and loved it, especially since it had a good but not overwhelming amount of heat. Rice was perfect and the sauce was delicious, also was a big fan of the sea asparagus. Tried the chicken karaage as well and it was fried absolutely perfectly. Highly recommend as a stop on your way to/from Waimea canyon, or honestly worth its own journey.
