Captain D's

This dining experience was fair. The staff was friendly and upbeat and the food was hot. My only ding with this location is the cleanliness or the lack thereof. The windows and blinds were dirty and the floor was slippery. The thing I like most about this location is the drink and condiment. It had everything you needed and then something extra. They even have a high bar family style table that seats about 8-10 people. We tried several items from the menu. The fish was hot, seasoned ok, and presented well on the styrofoam plate. The Cole slaw, crab dressing, hush puppies were good. The shrimp and corn were not. The corn tastes old and on the verge of souring. The shrimp were dry this time. Normally really good. I was also glad to see adequate staffing. They all looked happy and spoke well among themselves. Their uniforms appeared clean however, going to the bathroom while cooking and wearing your apron is never cool.

Captain D’s is what it is and has been what it has been since I first started eating here in the 90s. The food is consistently average. I prefer the battered fish, but the fried catfish and country style fish are good as well. Typically, it’s fried too soft so I request that it’s fried crispy. The fried meals come with hush puppies but you can substitute for a breadstick (which is the most delicious breadstick I’ve ever tasted). I highly recommend trying the sweet tea. It’s perfect and also one of the best I’ve had. My only complaint here is that occasionally the fries and okra taste like the fish. I’m assuming that’s because they’re all being fried in the same grease.
